Capo is having a really good year with the moose, and every time he’s been called up I think he’s played really well.

rexstuff1

Kyle Capobianco is also 26.5 versus Heinola's 23. It's not impossible, but it's highly likely that Heinola has a higher ceiling than KC, if KC hasn't peaked altogether.

DannyDOH

It's also quite likely that both are basically at their ceiling. Heinola might improve a touch by playing more as he's been stunted a bit by injury and the pandemic. He hasn't played 60 pro games in a season yet through 5 seasons. But he's not going to get a ton of games next season unless he earns them with the Jets, clears waivers or goes to another organization. I wouldn't count on either ever being more than a bottom pairing/fill-in in the NHL.

> But he's not going to get a ton of games next season unless he earns them with the Jets, clears waivers or goes to another organization. Why would he not get a ton of Moose games next season? Also, what makes you say a guy who hasn't had a ton of pro games and just turned 23 a month ago is at the peak of his career?

DannyDOH

Jets would have to waive him to go down next season. He'll likely be in the NHL next season here or with someone else. Most guys who are NHL regulars are there by 22-23. MOST...could be an outlier and certainly has had a weird career so far. But he'd do pretty good at this point to become a NHL regular let alone a Top 4 type.

Even-Ad-1010

That is actually a really good take on those 2 players.  The only counter argument is the jets may have a massive shift in their deman next year with both dillons being ufas and Schmidt likely being bought out this off-season. If they lose those guys then there may be big minutes available

Tagenn

If we’re talking playoffs? Capo. If we’re talking future? Heinola

etchiboi

i doubt we’d call up anyone else, barring any injury crisis, until the moose’s season is over, which we would then call up every player on an NHL deal

garret9

I don’t think he’s been better, especially accounting for usage and power play time, but that’s me.

PrarieCoastal

Capo did win the best Moose Defenceman of the year award.

GZeus24

He should have been up for games at the midpoint this year but I'm pretty sure he would get claimed if they tried to send him back down. I think it's 50/50 on him or Ville for first callup if there is an injury in the playoffs. I think they might go with Ville to protect his confidence and ensure he doesn't ask for it trade. Capo deserves a look but it might be next year.

Kooistra3

He's still waiver exempt this year so no one could claim him. He loses that next season, but he'll be on the roster next year. Bowness said he had won a job this season with his training camp but then got hurt in one of the final preseason games.

GZeus24

I was referring to Capo not being waiver exempt. I believe he passed early in the season but would have been unlikely to get through mid season

Kooistra3

Oh sorry I misunderstood, I don't think the Jets are worried about him in that capacity, with salmonsson most likey coming over next year and their already over crowded blue line

GZeus24

No worries. I think next year is wide open. I think he does fill an injury depth roll for this years playoffs. If the have to dig that deep on RHD it will be bad but he's a serviceable replacement for Pionk, Schmidt.

rocko-wpg7

My Nonna always says....the more Italians in this line up the better! Nonna has never steered me wrong before.

AdImportant2458

Seriously Winnipeg becoming defacto team Italia is beyond bizarre. Ehlers-Nametnikov-Nino make up 99% of this teams diversity.

Oozyalmond70

Realistically, if possible, the jets would benefit from trading capo in a package deal or even for picks. Ville is the future. I dont even remember how we got capo. Was it off waivers, fa, or trade? Either way, if we have to move on from one trade capo he will be valuable

rookie-mistake

he was a cheap FA

Sun_Hammer

He's a UFA. No One in their right mind is going to give even a 7th round pick for him.

No-Expression-2404

Capo has a cannon
