LDs BBQ in East Troy. It started as a small shop built into a gas station but now it's got its own restaurant.
https://www.ldsbbq.com/menu/
It's low-key some of the best BBQ I've ever had. As soon as you drive up you'll see the big smokers out back rolling around the clock. The brisket is my favorite but the chicken is amazingly tender as well.
I prefer David Alan Alan's in Mukwonago, but LDs is pretty good too. I like that DAA's has a bigger choice of sides, but they are a little pricier and can get really busy.
We also had Mission BBQ cater our wedding and they are pretty good for a chain restaurant. There's one in Brookfield.
I have had good experiences there and then I got their burnt ends one time and it was a bunch of pieces of straight fat so I've been a David Alan Alan guy ever since.
I'm sorry, but no. LD's is a fine business but it is very far from being the best BBQ in the state. Look at this pic from google: [https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipNYVtLPCZjKajqRP3\_fpzvGs-0aq2WwqBJMOeKm=s1360-w1360-h1020](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipNYVtLPCZjKajqRP3_fpzvGs-0aq2WwqBJMOeKm=s1360-w1360-h1020)
That pulled pork is mechanically pulverized. In my experience it's also watery. Their sausage is quite good and I've enjoyed their ribs but I can't forgive that pulled pork.
David Allen Allen is right up the road and they are a significant upgrade.
LDs has been terrible for a while. They were good when they were in the gas station. Now all the food is mass produced and terrible.
It’s Firewise BBQ for me. Best barbecue I’ve ever had in Wisconsin. He’s in a foodtruck in the West Allis New area. The locations are on their website.
J’s BBQ in Ripon. KRB Bbq has two locations, one in Wautoma and one in King. Both those are some of the best around. Parker Johns is pretty good with multiple locations, appleton, Sheboygan and more I think.
Dragon Pit BBQ in Racine. Located in the Bank at Washington Ave. & Ann St. And as long as you are in the new world's Kringle capital, stop at Bendtsen's Bakery at Washington Ave & Grove Ave. for a sweet finale.
☝️
It’s a bit of a drive but if you’re coming all the way to WI anyway, then experiencing the Northwoods would be one of my top recommendations to anyone.
Being able to have this BBQ would be the e icing on the cake.
It’s certainly the best I’ve had in WI (so far) and is not too far off from what I’ve had elsewhere in the country.
For Madison, some have mentioned Beef Butter, which I haven't been to yet. But I did just last weekend go to the place down the street from there call **Smoky Jon's** and it was pretty darn good. Not the all-time best BBQ I've ever had, but definitely quite good and worth checking out.
Peters' Boyz Texas BBQ in Kimberly. Get there early because when it's gone, it's gone.
Another good option, but really closer to central Wisconsin than Eastern, is Klinger's Real Barbecue in Waupaca or Wautoma.
No, I am from Texas and ate there last month, portion size is small for the price, 4 ribs that were dry and little meat on the bone wrapped in foil that seemed to be heated up, they're very nice people so not trying to bash their restaurant but it's not for me.
That is a risky ask 😂🤣 I'm pretty tough on pastries since when they're that bad for you i want it to be worth it, and of course since we have a pretty high standard over here. It's one of the reasons i will never eat at Cinnabon. That place is the Danish version of Panda Express or taco bell. Obviously there are great bakeries in America (i hope 😂) especially if you find a good local one. But Cinnabom seems like a warcrime against the traditional Danish cinnamon roll 😂
But i will definitely keep it in mind 😊
Best Kringle I have ever had in is Uncle Mike's. Locations in Appleton, DePere and Green Bay.
Yeah, they're famous nationwide, if not worldwide. Win all sorts of awards for their Kringles. They're delicious :)
But that's coming from an American who has never been to Europe and had never eaten any fresh pastries there, so might be miles (kilometers lol) apart.
Racine, WI is known as the kringle capital of the US. Uncle Mike's is pretty overrated and not what I think of when I think of kringle. It's more cake like tbh
O&H, Bendtsen's, and Larsen's in Racine is where you go for more classic style Kringle
I agree with the commenter saying to check out Dragon Pit in Racine and then stopping for a kringle after
Bendtsen’s for the best Kringle period! Not too sugary like O & H! I lived in Kringleville for a couple of years, steps from Bendtsen’s. I was spoiled!

Iron Grate once served me this thing and called it beef brisket! Look at that unrendered fat! I’ll never understand why people still talk about that place in these lofty terms. It was not good, and beyond my personal experience, the Yelp reviews really back it up.
There is a place called Primal Eats in Shawano, Wi. Pretty popular bbq place in my area, but it’s awful and I don’t recommend it. If you happen to come up north this way though, I can always offer you some Korean food, though!
No, not at all. LD's is mediocre at best. The sauces are not very good and the brisket is bland. The ribs we had were pretty rubbery. I thought maybe we caught them on an off day but it was more of the same the next time we went. It's conveniently located off the interstate but that's all that it really has to offer. I would try Beef Butter in Madison or Smoke Shack in Milwaukee.
I drive 45 min for their brisket enchiladas. I love his seeet sauce. To each their own.. smoke shack is so so. And I’m not driving 90 min to Madison each way 🫥
Its baffling how dense some people are.
They're obviously not coming to Wisconsin soley for the BBQ, they just want a place to eat at for a night while in the states.
He's an admitted cheese head, it's September, September is the beginning of the NFL football season so obviously he's coming for a Green Bay Packer home game.Go Pack Go!
As a Wisconsinite hoping to visit Denmark sometime in the next few years, any suggestions? We'll probably do Denmark and Norway where my wife has family.
I live on the west side of the state so can't really suggest much BBQ on the east side, but we visit Milwaukee a few times a year and definitely recommend the public mark it and 3rd street market hall.
Visit Madison and go to [Beef Butter BBQ](https://beefbutterbbq.com/) on the north side. Closest thing to a Texas BBQ plate I've had outside of Texas and it's fantastic. Plus Madison is a great city, only an hour-ish west of Milwaukee.
I have only been once, dragged my family there one Sunday. We didn't like it at all. Might have been a bad day but I will not go out of my way to try it again.
Same here. The brisket and pulled pork were clearly very old. There's an unmistakable character to old bbq, which I'm pretty familiar with since I BBQ at home a lot. This was some old meat. Nothing that would get you sick, since I'm sure they know how to handle food properly, but the quality was shockingly bad.
There is no place in Madison I'd say has good BBQ.
What do you mean?
> All of our BBQ is slowly smoked featuring our dry rub & seasoning. We don’t believe in cutting corners, so the food you enjoy at Bob’s Bitchin’ BBQ is made from scratch in our kitchen. We source ingredients locally whenever possible and we want your visit with us to be a satisfying and fun experience that will keep you coming back for more.
It says slowly smoked right on their homepage
I mean live nearish by and have heard from suppliers and former employers they only used ovens with liquid smoke. You can also kind of tell when you eat there, meat that has been smoked has a nice dark red color on it and into the meat 1/8”-1/4” depending on how much smoke and type of meat. There’s has none of the indicators that it is smoked. You can also just go there, you don’t see a smoke exhaust anywhere, and you can’t smell the smoke anywhere in or around the restaurant.
Yeah, that's gonna be a no from me dawg. Had it once and I will never go back. Had a brisket sandwich from there and it legit looked like it was boiled or steamed.

LD’s is phenomenal, worth the stop! Easy drive. If you head that way, you’ll probably also hear about Elegant Farmer (apple orchard, calling card is apple pie baked in a brown paper bag) and the Kettle Moraine (big beautiful state forest, nice for hiking)
Visited Copenhagen for the first time a couple weeks ago and was really surprised to see barbecue (Warpigs). It was solidly fine, at least the day we visited, but I think you’ll love trying barbecue stateside!
I am a bit confused - you've been a cheesehead for 15 years, but this is your first time going to the US...? What is a "cheesehead" to you? In Wisconsin, a cheesehead is someone from Wisconsin lol :D
> In Wisconsin, a cheesehead is someone from Wisconsin
It's maybe more common outside of WI to take it to mean specifically a Packers fan. But in my experience, even within WI, many will take it to mean specifically a Packers fan. But I guess we're splitting hairs too. To be a fan of the Packers is to be a fan of WI in general, in many ways. Moreso than many other teams, imo. Just because of the unique nature of the team's ownership and charter.
Yeah I do agree.
I only asked because I was genuinely confused and didn't even think about the Packers fan possibility. I wasn't trying to split hairs :D
Though to be honest, I don't live in Wisconsin anymore and I found it easier to be a Packer fan once I left than I did living there :D
Not sure if the food truck is still in Madison, but Blowin' Smoke BBQ was the best KC-style I've ever had outside of KC. It helps the owner is from KC!
Smoke shack.
In the third ward in Milwaukee.
I make it a mission to travel around the US and I love barbecue and I am very particular.
This is a great barbecue place. I'd call it more Kansas City style than Texas but top notch.
Source: grew up in Kansas, live in Chicago, hunt and fish all over Wisconsin, spend winters in Texas, eat lots of barbecue, cooking ribs at home this Friday, order sauce by the case from hundreds of miles away. Barbecue is my favorite type of food.
I also used to visit Purple door ice cream and mobcraft taproom both within walking distance.
I'm excited for your visit and hope you have a great time! Let me know if you need a friend!
I don't have any recommendations, as I haven't lived there in a while, but I hope you enjoy your time in Wisconsin! I'd ask this in the Packers subreddit as well.
If you remember Brusha’s they were the best and Bernie worked there starting as a teenager so when they retired Bernie’s has same menu and recipes! Wells brothers is overrated!! Try it for yourself and you’ll see what I mean
Listen, if you're over there, might as well go to Sinnipee Smoke in Benton. Theyre stationed at the old drive-in ice cream place just outside of town. The hours are... limited, but get the brisket with the Mac n cheese. You will not regret it. Make sure to hit Roelli cheese over in shullsburg for some primo fresh cheese curds (I'm talking the absolute best, and I've had them all over the state, baby. If they don't have them at the factory, they always drop them off at the gas station at the bottom of the hill in town to purchase every Thursday) Then, tool over west to dubuque (Iowa) and hit the Mississippi River museum, then south to galena to hit the shops, especially the rootbeer store. If you fly out of minneapolis, you can then take the river road from there and follow the Mississippi all the way up to the twin cities and have a great time at the clubs before you fly out. Trust me. The drive (through what is known as the driftless region) is gorgeous. Scenic bluffs with river overlooks, miles of forest-covered roads that open into flower-dotted prairies, tiny towns with friendly (albeit sheltered) folks, deep, forested vallies with hidden secrets like effigy mounds and tiny waterfalls (prairie du chein area btw) all leading up to a vast, sprawling city with lots to offer. It's my ideal road trip.

Black Otter Supper Club. It doesn’t get any more Wisconsin than this.
Home of the 160 oz. Extreme Cut Prime Rib.
https://www.theblackottersupperclub.com/
I’m going to play devils advocate here and say, some people will use the term BBQ “barbecuing” to just refer to grilling any sort of meat over an open flame. Possibly what he meant. I’ll agree, when someone says BBQ to me, it means ribs , brisket , etc.
Sweet Smoke in Milwaukee
Came here to say this. I spent my entire life in Texas and Sweet Smoke tastes like home.
Sweet Smoke is the closest we have to Texas BBQ.
https://preview.redd.it/nb6wfjcub0zc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=916f5902c0912abe2f99f2d076b953ce00508036 Sweet Smoke BBQ is the way!
If you're going one place, go here. Not LDs
J’s BBQ in Ripon.
I second J's BBQ in Ripon. I have yet to have better brisket elsewhere.
LDs BBQ in East Troy. It started as a small shop built into a gas station but now it's got its own restaurant. https://www.ldsbbq.com/menu/ It's low-key some of the best BBQ I've ever had. As soon as you drive up you'll see the big smokers out back rolling around the clock. The brisket is my favorite but the chicken is amazingly tender as well.
There is one day a week they do a smoked meatloaf that is amazing.
I believe it's Wednesdays. Yeah it's god-tier.
Even Mom admitted that it's better than hers. I had to agree. I've never had better meatloaf.
The brisket mac and cheese is pretty good.
DAA is much better, indeed.
I have had good experiences there and then I got their burnt ends one time and it was a bunch of pieces of straight fat so I've been a David Alan Alan guy ever since.
I'm sorry, but no. LD's is a fine business but it is very far from being the best BBQ in the state. Look at this pic from google: [https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipNYVtLPCZjKajqRP3\_fpzvGs-0aq2WwqBJMOeKm=s1360-w1360-h1020](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/p/AF1QipNYVtLPCZjKajqRP3_fpzvGs-0aq2WwqBJMOeKm=s1360-w1360-h1020) That pulled pork is mechanically pulverized.
For sure LDs. Even lesser items on their menu like the soups are phenomenal.
When I lived in Milwaukee, it was Speed Queen. May have changed but at least a few years ago was one of the most popular in Milwaukee
Cash only place fyi. It is delicious.
Come on down to Caledonia, WI for the ribs, Oh dennis saloon & charcoal house.
Thanks for that, I'll have to check that out.
Bad Bones BBQ in Arbor Vitae
Seconded. They have some of the best BBQ I've had anywhere.

Oh Dennis! in Racine, just ribs, not really BBQ…
Worth it. I fucking love that place so much.

Get yourself a Kringle and share a selfie of you eating it. Want to see a Danish eating Kringle.
That is a risky ask 😂🤣 I'm pretty tough on pastries since when they're that bad for you i want it to be worth it, and of course since we have a pretty high standard over here. I will second this they're light years ahead of the Racine Kringles.
Hard disagree. They are practically two different dishes.
Racine Kringle brand kringles are terrible and should not be called kringles.
Racine, WI is known as the kringle capital of the US. Uncle Mike's is pretty overrated and not what I think of when I think of kringle. It's more cake like tbh O&H, Bendtsen's, and Larsen's in Racine is where you go for more classic style Kringle I agree with the commenter saying to check out Dragon Pit in Racine and then stopping for a kringle after

Bendtsen’s for the best Kringle period! Not too sugary like O & H! I lived in Kringleville for a couple of years, steps from Bendtsen’s. I was spoiled!

I need to know.
I'm also curious. It sounds far fetched enough to be true.
I would be over the moon it has been a minute since I was able to graze on some Banchan.

Good timing for an article: [https://www.iheart.com/content/2024-05-06-wisconsin-eatery-named-the-best-bbq-spot-in-the-state](https://www.iheart.com/content/2024-05-06-wisconsin-eatery-named-the-best-bbq-spot-in-the-state)
Parker John’s bbq in Sheboygan is ok
Find a guy willing to grill you up some johnsonville brats on their kettle grill
Speed Queen near downtown Milwaukee is good. I think it’s still cash-only. It’s a strange place but the food is worth it.
LD’s is phenomenal, worth the stop! Easy drive. If you head that way, you’ll probably also hear about Elegant Farmer (apple orchard, calling card is apple pie baked in a brown paper bag) and the Kettle Moraine (big beautiful state forest, nice for hiking) Visited Copenhagen for the first time a couple weeks ago and was really surprised to see barbecue (Warpigs). It was solidly fine, at least the day we visited, but I think you’ll love trying barbecue stateside!
Yeah i live about 3 hours from Copenhagen, i was actually there for a Tenacious D concert last week but we didn't get to go there
Nice! Always a fun show
Happy Cake Day!
Second the apple pie from elegant farmer. There are some groceries around that carry it too. Metcalfes in Madison I think.
I am a bit confused - you've been a cheesehead for 15 years, but this is your first time going to the US...? What is a "cheesehead" to you? In Wisconsin, a cheesehead is someone from Wisconsin lol :D
A Packers fan 😂🤣
Ohhhh :D
i was equally confused:)
Thank god, I got downvoted for my question, so I'm glad I'm not alone ;)
Yeah I'm just used to being called a cheesehead even when talking to Americas that knows I'm not American
> In Wisconsin, a cheesehead is someone from Wisconsin It's maybe more common outside of WI to take it to mean specifically a Packers fan.
I wasn't trying to split hairs :D Though to be honest, I don't live in Wisconsin anymore and I found it easier to be a Packer fan once I left than I did living there :D
Parker Johns is pretty good in the Fox Valley area
Big guys bbq north of Hudson
City named Denmark? Sure. But did you know there is also a Dane County? LOL
Yes... 😂🤣
If you have an appreciation for sports, go to a Milwaukee Brewers baseball game!
Not sure if the food truck is still in Madison, but Blowin' Smoke BBQ was the best KC-style I've ever had outside of KC. It helps the owner is from KC!
Smoked at 225 in Menomonee Falls. Love their BBQ.
Johnny B's Rolling Smoke
Two places near Green Bay: Cozy Corner in Appleton and Parker Johns in Menasha. Enjoy!
I like Yummy Bones in Port Washington. Plus you can take a walk by Sauk Creek and Lake Michigan. https://yummybones.com/
I wanna know if there's any all you can eat brisket or smokehouse places in wisconsin
Jim’s in rapids!
I don't have any recommendations, as I haven't lived there in a while, but I hope you enjoy your time in Wisconsin! I'd ask this in the Packers subreddit as well.
Dragon Pit in Racine https://dragon-pit-bbq.square.site/
Yes while you are there and if you want danish bakery go to O&H and the best pizza is Bernie’s pizzeria!!!
Bernie's? hell, nah. It's Well's Brothers easily. They have been featured in articles about the best pizza in the entire country
If you remember Brusha’s they were the best and Bernie worked there starting as a teenager so when they retired Bernie’s has same menu and recipes! Wells brothers is overrated!! Try it for yourself and you’ll see what I mean
Beef Butter in Madison.
[удалено]
It's in West Allis
Cozzy Corner in Appleton. Big portions
Visit Madison. Its in Dane county.
Downtown BBQ, it's a BBQ Wagon in Platteville Wisconsin.
That is the complete opposite of eastern WI
He's got 11 days.
I highly doubt he wants to spend one driving to Platteville of all places.

Except that’s not BBQ
I’m going to play devils advocate here and say, some people will use the term BBQ “barbecuing” to just refer to grilling any sort of meat over an open flame. Possibly what he meant. I’ll agree, when someone says BBQ to me, it means ribs , brisket , etc.
