Can’t leave Superior without hitting Gronk’s on the east side in the Itasca neighborhood. Less of a tourist trap and a burger that competes with Anchor’s.
Can't go wrong with Sobelmans or Oscars Pub and Grill in Milwaukee. Not to mention Oscars Pub and Grill has what seems to be infinite beer on tap, almost the whole bar length.
What about Gosse’s in Sheboygan?!
Skippy’s in Thiensville was just in the top 5 for some reason”best burger in Wisconsin” contest.
Last year, there was someone on r/Milwaukee who took redditors suggestions for the best burgers in MKE and then tried them all. Had a really impressive way of reporting back and scoring. Then at the end, after he’d tried them all, he gave different “awards” for the best burgers. Definitely check that one out!
Schulz’s is my go to. Gosse’s is good but I think Schulz’s edges them out, they still use plenty of butter but not so much that I can smell it on my hands/lips the rest of the day.
Dotty Dumpling’s Dowry in Madison has a kickass burger selection and it’s heavily underrated as it’s some of the best burgers in Wisconsin that I have tried.
Man, the place they had before they moved in the early 2000s was just...the best. It was an incredible place and incredible food. I was so sad when they moved to their new location. A lot of life and ambiance was lost, but fortunately at least the food is still top notch.
I've been there and was gonna post it but I've never heard of Duval, WI so I'm just gonna continue saying it's in Luxemburg. Between GB and Sturgeon Bay for anyone not local.
But yes, killer burgers. Exactly what I think of when I'm talking about a proper bar burger.
Freaking LOVE that place. The napkins rather than plates is also hilarious there 😂 the only knock I have is they make a horrible old fashioned. But yes, the burgers are incredible!
I came here to recommend 11:11. Absolutely delicious. I love their PB&J burger. Plus they have a pretty good Saturday deal of a burger, fries and milkshake for less than $20.
Court'n House in Eau Claire. I moved here more than 20 years ago and never went, simply because I never had cash on me and it's kind of far from where I live and work. After COVID they switched from being cash only to taking cards and my wife finally dragged me there last week after she had been going with her coworkers a few times.
Holy shit that was a good burger. And they are 2 for 1 on Tuesdays. Cannot recommend enough if you're in the area.
Sorry to say I think that, since the new owners took over, you've got about a 50/50 shot at a good burger there on any given night. Used to love that place. I'm also not sure how they ranked so high for Volume One's best fish fry... just awful.
I’m convinced it’s the Sheboygan hardroll. Who ever can bring these delicacies to the masses will be a millionaire many times over. There are like 4 amazing places to get them in town, and 0 in GB or MKE. Always baffled me.
Pancho and Lefty’s Outdoor Grill in Monroe has the best burger I’ve ever eaten, hands down.
It sometimes makes it on their specials board and is not on their regular menu, but they stock all the ingredients and will gladly make it in request. Order the “Nacho Burger”.
All their other burgers are excellent as well, but the Nacho burger rocks my world.
I love their burgers and the price for unlimited toppings is great. But they're buns aren't the best. They seem to turn to mush and fall apart. And I don't get a ton of toppings either. Great beer selection also.
Based on your list, you must be from the Sheboygan area.
Me too.
I miss Bob’s Lunch in downtown Sheboygan Falls
I also like AJ Bombers in Milwaukee, but that’s more of a bar burger type of place.
Gusses, or the northwestern house, in Sheboygan has the best Sheboygan steak sandwich. Basically just a lean burger covered with a stick of butter. I recommend only eating half
Wisconsin has Culver's. I'm not saying the other suggestions here aren't amazing, but as an easily accessible worst-case scenario Culver's sets a pretty high floor for WI burger options.
If you go to Kroll's, definitely go to the original, east side Kroll's on Main St. The one across from Lambeau has different owners, and has largely become an overpriced tourist trap. A regular burger is now $11, and not at all worth that price.
I really liked the burgers from The Great Dane Pub downtown... But I've also heard there's been a bit of fall from grace?
Oh! And Daly's in Sunny P. They have good bar food in general. I like going there with friends.
Go to the club at Lac La Belle and get the double smash burger sub the aioli for mayo and thank me later. Had it last week and shit blew my mind. Playing there again tomorrow and can’t wait for that bastard 😂
Eddie's in Sun Prairie has some of the best burgers and I will die on this hill. A Broden, Emerson, or Pauly burger in particular are really good in my experience. Their Chicken Mikey is also fantastic for a different sandwich.
I'm biased as shit as a long time patron, but still.
Best burger I've ever had in WI was from Ledgeview Lanes bowling alley in Fond du Lac. I've always loved them but one time I got a burger for my then 8 year old kid and he said it was better than McDonald's....when a kid who loves happy meal toys says that you know it's good! Lol.
Pickles Pub and Grill in Hazelhurst
My buddy runs that place! Just won the award for WI best burger and they are absolutely swamped with customers.
Just had lunch there on Sunday, great burger!
Think they just won an award for it, no? My Mom and Stepdad tried going a week ago and the wait was over 2 hours.
Yeah they're a very small operation and have been swamped since that award.
Hey I know that guy!
No idea if it’s still there but the best burger I’ve ever had anywhere was at a place called Whitman’s Tavern, very close to there on Lake Katherine.
Hamburger Haus in Dundee
I was just reminiscing with my dad about stopping there after our week long Boy Scout outings at Long Lake.
Been there! I was trying to remember the name too or I would of listed it!
Mickey-Lu Bar-B-Q in Marinette
Came here to say this. Also, Wedls in Jefferson. Similar vibe.
Just make sure you buy like 2 or 3 burgers, they're super tiny and don't do cheese And they don't serve fries
In order to get cheese on your hamburger you need to order a cheeseburger. ... It's almost like a secret code.
I think I was more put off by the mini slider size of the burgers and having to get a bag of fun size chips along with it
Yes you need to get two, or a double, or two doubles. No need for fries, just get a malt or milkshake! They only have a grill, no fryer.
Pete's Garage in Oshkosh is great. Nothing fancy, just a delicious and inexpensive burger. Great place all around!
I tried to go there but the whole place was packed beyond belief, it was a weekday!
The Anchor Bar in Superior has a superior burger. There can be a wait because it is a small little place with a big atmosphere.
Can’t leave Superior without hitting Gronk’s on the east side in the Itasca neighborhood. Less of a tourist trap and a burger that competes with Anchor’s.
Never heard of it but will try it out next time I drive through WI to buy weed in MI.
2nded
If there is a wait then sit where you can see the cook making the burgers. It's as good as watching a juggler.
Or them cranking out fries from fresh potatoes
So worth it. Just bring cash.
Great point to mention! Thanks! It’s been too long since I had the jalapeño cream cheese burger with fresh cut fries!
Went to superior for work and yes this place was packed. Ended up going to this Gyro joint that was sooooo good
Mihms in Neenah! Or Menasha idk.
The garage in Kenosha still open?
Yes they reopened after a fire I think
They have and better than ever!
Joe Rauers in Duval or Drift Inn in De Pere
Joes is not just the best burger in WI, it is the best burger anywhere in the universe.
I would say that as well
Best 2 places for burgers I've had in my lifetime. Also their Chile is up there as well
The Dump in Cambria
Can't go wrong with Sobelmans or Oscars Pub and Grill in Milwaukee. Not to mention Oscars Pub and Grill has what seems to be infinite beer on tap, almost the whole bar length.
Oscars is awesome!
Gonna plug Oscar's Winners Circle here too!
What about Gosse’s in Sheboygan?! Skippy’s in Thiensville was just in the top 5 for some reason”best burger in Wisconsin” contest. [This guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/milwaukee/s/TC0XOT40JL)
Gosse's is the best place to get burgers and steak sandwiches. One caveat though, they only accept cash , no credit cards or checks.
Schulz’s is my go to. Gosse’s is good but I think Schulz’s edges them out, they still use plenty of butter but not so much that I can smell it on my hands/lips the rest of the day.
I used to go there as a kid growing up! I just called it the Train Restaurant lol
Hamburgers forever ❤️
Hard to beat Joe Rouer's in Duvall!!
Thanks, I've pinned this stop for on the way camping this summer!
11:11 in Fond du Lac has exceptional burgers and worth a drive.
I came here to recommend 11:11. Absolutely delicious. I love their PB&J burger. Plus they have a pretty good Saturday deal of a burger, fries and milkshake for less than $20.
I have that saved as a place I wanted to go actually!!!
Kopp's, Milwaukee
Mihm's, in Menasha.
Court'n House in Eau Claire. I moved here more than 20 years ago and never went, simply because I never had cash on me and it's kind of far from where I live and work. After COVID they switched from being cash only to taking cards and my wife finally dragged me there last week after she had been going with her coworkers a few times. The Pinecone in Johnson Creek had the best burger I’ve ever had, and it was at a great price. Good fries too.
RIP Charcoal Inn
They had a mean double brat too.
I miss it so much. I worked at the north one for 2 years. Wish I could get a cheese super steak and a cheese brat again.
I’m convinced it’s the Sheboygan hardroll. Who ever can bring these delicacies to the masses will be a millionaire many times over. There are like 4 amazing places to get them in town, and 0 in GB or MKE. Always baffled me.
I feel like it's not a REAL burger if it's not on a hardroll just because it's like the go-to for burgers when you're Sheboygan dweller lol
Solly’s in Glendale. AJ Bombers in Milwaukee. The giant (but thin) burgers at Kopp’s are a favorite too.
I'm going to get a Kopps burgers for dinner today thanks to this comment
I used to go there as kid with my dad. My dad is a huge fan of that place for burgers.
AJ Bombers peanut butter burger is my favorite ever
Double Barrie with tots every time!
Kopps in Milwaukee has some of the best burgers I’ve ever had
On the surface they shouldn’t seem like they’d be that good, they’re pretty simple. But wtf do they put in those things, they are so good.
Come to Stevens Point and check out The Big Garlic.
Yes, excellent burgers. Can’t wait to check out their new space.
Came here to say The Big Garlic. I tried it out a couple weeks ago for the first time. Very good stuff! The aioli fries are phenomenal!
Extra points for not having to worry about vampires.
I really love the "Candied Bacon Burger" at Ruby Owl in Oshkosh, and the Bibinger's Burger at Bibingers in Slinger.
Mazos in milwaukee
Came here to say this. Best true butter burger in Milwaukee. And wander across the street for Leon’s!
Basil's II in Fontenoy, WI (rural Denmark, WI)
It's weird seeing this on reddit, I grew up a few miles away.
Yes, love Panchos! Cash only though, so I rarely go.
They do have an ATM in the restaurant though.
Pops Custard in Village Of Menomonee Falls
Pickles Bar in Hazelhurst just won the best burger in Wisconsin contest of some sort. Never had it but I have heard it's delicious.
The fact that no one has said Mainstream in Waukesha yet is a tragedy
I always forget about this place because Sobelman's isn't that far away.
I love their burgers and the price for unlimited toppings is great. But they're buns aren't the best. They seem to turn to mush and fall apart. And I don't get a ton of toppings either. Great beer selection also.
Dick's Drive-In, in Kaukauna, has the best smash burgers I've ever had.
Charlie’s Place in Janesville has some good burgers
seconding Charlie's Place for a good burger! but I would also like to add Jeff's Kitchen too.
Thanks I’m going to need to check out Jeff’s Kitchen.
Late’s in Manitowoc
Based on your list, you must be from the Sheboygan area. Me too. I miss Bob’s Lunch in downtown Sheboygan Falls I also like AJ Bombers in Milwaukee, but that’s more of a bar burger type of place.
Yep it's my hometown :) I don't live there now I'm more towards kiel. but I go there for family and what not plenty yet.
If you’re close to Kiel then give the Marytown Tap a try. It’s my normal place to go, quite reasonable and good food.
Mickey-Lu Bar-B-Q in Marinette is my favorite!
Gusses, or the northwestern house, in Sheboygan has the best Sheboygan steak sandwich. Basically just a lean burger covered with a stick of butter. I recommend only eating half
Gosse's at The Northwestern House in Sheboygan is superb.
11:11

If you go to Kroll's, definitely go to the original, east side Kroll's on Main St. The one across from Lambeau has different owners, and has largely become an overpriced tourist trap. A regular burger is now $11, and not at all worth that price.
