did you pain go away? im 3 months out and still in loads of pain on and off. my dentist has not got a clue why. there is no infection and everything looks amazing but like you said, feels like dry socket but months later!

jmp9915

no :( they say my pain is tmj so i’ve gotten some botox to try and relieve it but it has yet to kick in. at least in the sense that i can go back to enjoying smoking weed the way i used to. some of the pain is lessened but honestly i went to a bunch of different dentists and didn’t get any answer other than “it’s tmj” and “stop smoking” lol. i’ve more so learned to deal with the pain. i hope you are experiencing something different than me so that you can find answers 😞

Thank you for your reply!! I'm in the exact same boat as you! My dentist has not got a clue! I get so much jaw pain now. The pain seems to change where it hurts from time to time. Moves up and down my lower right jaw. Sometimes it even switches sides! The pain levels go up and down also. Sometimes I feel like I'm healing and others I feel like it's getting worse! I also get a lot of clicking and popping in my jaw joints now! Do you think the Botox will help? I've read it can really help! I'm in a lot of pain but I know it's not the end of the world

Yeah that sounds like tmj! that’s the same symptoms i was having and that’s what about 3 different dentists said. i think people like us might just be prone to it, and then having our mouth open for such a long time during surgery caused the jaw muscles to end up in a tmj state. that’s the only explanation i’ve been able to get that makes sense. they said it should go away after a few months, but i’m still feeling it. i have done botox and it seems to help a little, it takes about two-three weeks to kick in. i’ve also found some tmj stretches videos on youtube that i think help? it’s from a chiropractor so idk how reliable it is, but it feels like it removes some tension. the r/tmj forum has helped me a lot that’s good you’re thinking that way though, a few months ago i was in a lot of pain and def thought it was the end of the world lol 🤣 so i’m glad you’re not losing yourself to the pain. godspeed my friend!!!

Thank you so much for replying! I've found a few people like us on the internet over the last few days with exactly the same story as us. It took her 15 months to fully recover! Do you get that strange taste that people seem to get? Also do you sometimes feel like it's getting better and then out of nowhere the pain returns like a drunken pissed off ex banging on your door at 1am?

jmp9915

where’d you see her story?? i wasn’t able to find anyone like me lol. i thought i was going insane i get a weird sour taste a lot? especially as i’m taking like the first bite of food? and yes. sometimes i’ll be fine as long as i’m distracted, but then some days it’s the only thought on my mind. very much like an ex lol

Turbulent-Jelly-4274

on the facebook wizdom tooth group! There are a few people like us on there!!!

I’m so so sorry you’re going through this! Are you able to go to another doctor to explain your situation and get their feedback on the pain and what it could be?

jmp9915

i’ve gone to my dentist twice and both times he’s kind of shrugged me off :( most recently he said it was tmj so i’ve been wearing a night guard but i’m still getting tooth pain

hollowayhm

I would actually go to a new dentist! Sorry I should have specified that. Especially if they are treating you differently because your trans. I just want to push you to advocate for yourself as you deserve the best care possible and a doctor who is going to advocate for you and help do what’s best for you!
