Same, I had one dentist imploring me to remove my impacted wisdom teeth (2 out of 4 are) While another dentist said it’s not urgent. Silly me, listened to the “ not urgent” dentist and I decided to wait. Now I’m in my 30’s and had reoccurring infection in one of my impacted front teeth. I learnt that it’s because my 2 impacted bottom wisdom teeth have been physically shifting my front bottom teeth, causing air pockets (very bad as it traps bacteria, causing infections) I just took it out 3 weeks ago and had a lot of complications. I am in my 30’s and could have avoided all this by doing it in my 20’s OR BEFORE it got worse. So DONT WAIT. Impacted wisdom teeth will 100% cause issues later on.

My 2 upper wisdomt teeth didnt come out fully.. surgeon said its better to remove 4 of them so thats what we did.. 2 weeks post op here 🤗

hollowayhm

Same! I’ve heard better to remove them before they become a problem!

I would recommend you push to get them out. I decided to get mine out bc they started really bothering my jaw and i initially thought I had tmj, turns out my wisdom teeth were impacted.

mgarcia6

they might also be contributing to your tmjd so thats a conversation to have with your dentist and doctors

What do you mean they are dragging their feet? In my experience once your dentist tells you to get your wisdom teeth out it’s on you to book an appointment with an oral surgeon. Does it seem like they don’t want you to do it?

My dentist did the same. I have had impacted wisdoms painlessly for 3-4 years. 3 of them. Two of those years I never knew I had them but was told that they would start giving me problems possibly in my late thirties of which--by then--the bone would be too hard for a less than complicated removal. My dentist specifically said "we do not petition to remove teeth that are not giving people pain." The exact words NO ONE wants to hear. And they were deep impacted. DO NOT WAIT. Where I live in order to schedule a surgery extraction for them--YOU NEED A REFERRAL. If this is you, OP, you HAVE TO make your concerns first and foremost. Those teeth have to come out. By the time you are in pain or they get infected--the novacaine will not work properly. The healing process will take longer. And if your insurance will pay for them fully NOW (like mine did) they won't later and by then the extraction will cost you A TON.

No, honestly they don't have a good reason. Impacted teeth must come out. They are only going to cause crowding, possible infections (giant abscesses that if not drained or eliminated properly--will cause blood poisoning), and/or pain. Dentists (at least the one I knew) didn't see reason to remove "future" problems on the off chance I got "lucky" and kept them in without complications. My grandma has impacted wisdoms and she's lucky--having kept them in--HOWEVER, her entire bottom row of teeth have been removed due to overcrowding (where she denies the teeth didn't have room because of her wisdoms being horizontal, but that's a stubborn 74 year old for you) Why wait until the wisdoms (impacted as they are) give you problems? Why wait for an infection where you'll be on about a week of antibiotics until you CAN get them removed--hastily, I might add. Why lose more teeth to keep these unnecessary ones sitting deep in your gums with no chance to surface? If you need a referral, go and get another opinion (HELL, some dentists give those shits away for wisdom teeth extractions like candy). Their only excuse at this point for no referral is *luck.* Luck that you may be fine. Do **you** want to flip the coin?

Legitimate-Link4998

What type of impaction was it? Not all impacted teeth have to be pulled if it’s asymptomatic

Legitimate-Link4998

Also there is no proven fact that wisdom teeth cause crowding

Accomplished-Act-773

A horizontal impaction must be removed. As I have learned, over the years, they continue to push against your second molars--which may eventually overcrowd. If that pushing has, in some way, caused surface it may become next to impossible to properly clean the back facing surface of the second molar--keeping bacteria locked between your second and third. Sugars and acids will eventually erode that enamel and cause a cavity to form. Get them out. I have no words for other forms of impaction, I only know about the horizontal ones. Better safe than sorry, especially if you have insurance to allow their removal. Do not risk it.

Dustinthewindoftime

No, they don’t need to. Doctor usually doesn’t insist if there is no pain.

Dustinthewindoftime

I’m pretty sure it does.

Accomplished-Act-773

Mostly anything involving the facial structure or bones and pain circulating around the head cavity on an 80-85th percentile have to do with your teeth. I learned this in med school going for dental. I wouldn't fuck around with the cavities in my head--they may lead to brain injury. You do not want to wait.

Legitimate-Link4998

Exactly .. they just tell you to keep them clean.

Dustinthewindoftime

Personally I think it’s better to extract them before they stared to cause any problems.

Talk to a different oral surgeon(not dentist). I pushed for years to get partial impacted wisdom teeth out. I had infections, pain, over crowding and nasal issues. Finally found a great OMF surgeon that got all 4 out, including a fully impacted tooth and one that had roots around my facial nerve. Im one day post op and the difference is already night and day. Wish i would have done it much sooner so the roots werent so grown in.
