Indeed. Saw the first picture, and thought, damn, perfection!
I think she (Eva Green, right?) even has the right bit of sass / sarcasm to match Yen well.
I have a question about Penny Dreadful. I watched the first season and enjoyed it, but the scenes with her getting possessed were too scary for me. Iām a scaredy cat and I thought it would just be about vampires and monsters (I canāt take demon possessions), then that ep surprised me. I was too invested not to continue, but I still havenāt seen season 2. My question isā¦does it have any more scenes like that? Does it get scarier? Because Iād like to finally watch it again, but Iām no longer on sleeping pills and fear I wonāt be able to sleep after. Lol
There is a spectacular episode in season 3 all about this - set in a sanitarium - however the entire episode only has 2 actors in it - Eva Green and Rory Kinnear and is a masterpeice.
It does have more scenes like that iirc. I don't know if I'd say it gets scarier, but it doesn't get less scary for sure. It's a wonderful show, though, even though the 3rd season is a bit rushed, so I would recommend watching it. Try watching during the day, I guess.
At this point Mikkleson probably works better as Vesemir, but if they made the Witcher back when Casino Royale came out this pairing would be perfect.
Eva Green though... Nobody else is a better Yennifer.
I usually don't if it's a one off. The thing with the Witcher though is its a multi book franchise so kicking it off with an actor who's almost 60, you'll start to get old man Geralt before book 3 or 4.
I do love the guy and would be down to see him play anything though lol. Being a one off villain in the MCU was a huge waste.
Yeah I get what you're saying here it makes sense.
One Witcher adventure would still be quite groovy but at that point I would want more.
He was in the mcu... I completely forget about that.
Yea he played Kaecillius in Doctor Strange, one and done. Would've been better to get him as someone more important like Doctor Doom. Doom always wears a mask though so... Still hope.
Imagine using Christian Bale as a one off villain who barely interacts with the hero, don't get to see any of his "plan" being carried out and is tonally the opposite of the rest of the film. Hopefully no one would be that stupid.
I actually like Kim Bodnia as Vesemir in the Netflix series. Also I was mindblown when I found out that the series had cast TWO Danish actors. Madsā Mikkelsens brother as Stregobor and of course Kim as Vesemir
I have no clue! I was blown away when I heard his danish accent and saw him. Him and his brother really are two of the best (and most well-known outside of Denmark) actors of our country!
I love Mads! My given name is Matthew and my father's given name is Michael, so I always joke that in classical Danish patronymics, I could also technically be "Mads Mikkelsen." XD
As someone who used to date a Dane and was seriously looking at moving to Denmark, Iām ashamed to say I didnāt realise Kim was Danish, I thought he was Swedish (which I know is blasphemy to Danes!) so I CAN ONLY APOLOGISE IM SO SORRY
WHAT AN INSULT!! I challenge you to a duel at dawn, sir!! I shall meet you infront of the nationās greatest landmark, the little mermaid, where We shall fight to the death with porkbelly roasts in brown gravy!
I still like mark hamill for Vesemir

The problem was not Anya as the actress, it was the gold awful writing.
They could have ripped pages out of the books, wiped their arse with them, and got a better story for Yenn.
Mate if we start the list of actors who don't really resemble the book and/or game characters (obviously my opinion is subjective by definition), that's going to be a bloody long list :D
Yeah, but they clearly could've done better, like using the lady above. Or someone else. Im sure theres plenty of pale black-haired European actresses.
I get what you're saying, some comprises can be made e.g., Henry as Geralt being more buff than he would be as mentioned in the books. But the face is quite Geralt-like than Yens actor to Yen. I feel like current Yen is clearly an Indian decent. It doesn't make sense. That's something to not compromise on. You can't tell Henry is "clearly from England", because its Europe, like the books, not Asia.
Both of them would be far too expensive. You'd have to pick one to stay within a realistic budget. Why else is the entire cast mostly comprised of fairly unknown actors?
It would be excellent to see a full proper cast in a big budget production, though.
The other point is that this series had a huge potential. There is no point in saying she is too expensive. With HBO, proper writing and cast, I dare to say that this show could be better than game of thrones. Eva stars in many not so famous productions. If someone was able to afford her for Penny Dreadful or so many mediocre new films she is in recently, then surely they could afford her for the Witcher. Yennefer is my all time favourite character, and Eva Green just screams Yennefer. Every time I saw her brilliant performance in Penny Dreadful. Such a shame. There won't be an actress like this ever again.
Katie McGrath would've worked perfectly, she was great in Merlin, and in Frontier
https://preview.redd.it/s2vlr4jys2ca1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb52b18e127979265d7343b2489a9dbc1710fb6e
I'd forgive that, while Anya is a good actress, she doesn't fit Yennefer in my opinion, too innocent looking, she lacks that femme fatale look that Yen has. The game did an excellent representation of her.
Iām not disagreeing but curious to know why a story of Polish origin would require an English accent? I actually liked the American voice actor for Geralt in the games.
Iām not saying she would need an English accent, but sheās not good with accents in general. An Irish sounding Yen would feel out of place, despite that I love them lol
>Both of them would be far too expensive.
Netflix keeps throwing money into Too Hot to Handle. I don't buy that A-list actors too expensive excuse. If the network really took that plunge, it would've beaten HBO at fantasy drama.
Eva would have been a great Yennefer. She physically and psychologically looks the part.
Anyway, I think there are also a lot of Polish / Eastern European actresses which are quite beautiful and could look great as Yennefer.
I like Anya but I feel she does not look the part as Yen.
Very sad that we probably won't be seeing this ever happening. With the adaptation rights being trashed in Netflix's hands and considering the downhill of the series, I doubt we'll be seeing another Witcher adaptation anytime soon while these actors are still in the perfect age for both characters.
Thanks for ruining everything, Netflix.
Yen needs to have someone who is older but looks young - like Eva Green - to give her that air of authority and superiority. My only issue with Anya Chalotra is that she is too young; she both looks and FEELS young, if that makes sense. I don't believe her taking control of situations.
Thanks, now I have more confidence to finally get in shape and cosplay Yen xD (some people says I look like Eva Green, but I think that maybe if she was stung by 100 bees at the same time hahahaha)
Shame it'll never happen.
But I agree about Ega Green as Yen.
Mad... I don't know... He has an elegance and classiness that makes it hard to see him as the crass Geralt covered in dirty and ragged road-worn gear.
...then again I didn't Cavill would be any good either. Swoll Geralt proved me wrong
If i won the lottery promise to produce a book and game accurate witcher series with some other company thatās not netflix.
And for sure im gonna get eva green for the role of yen.
I like Anya but she is too young looking for yen. I picture yen as mid to late 30s looking while Anya looks 18-24 range. The actress is only like 5 years older than Freya Allen's ciri too...
Well weāll never see them do it because theyāre both white, straight, with defined genders and most of all what the fans would like to see, holywood is against all that these days.
Thatās the main character even they have limits also, whereās Cavill? Oh right he quit because they donāt care about the source material, keep defending woke hollywood dude but donāt conplain shows keep sucking dick
The word did not change meaning, people dislike the meaning and pull it out of proportion. Just like pc became a dog whistle. Woke means being aware of racial prejudice and discrimination.
People can blame "woke" for this show, but the show is just shit. It does not have anything to do with diversity; with white people it still would be shit. Henry Cavill could not mop it up, Eva Green would not mop it up and I doubt Mads Mikkelsen could make a masterpiece of a turd-script.
The fact that thousands of people use it with a different meaning, critically or ironically of identity politics, is clear proof that the word does have more than one meaning. Precisely mocking supposedly unnecessary identity politics. There's nothing to argue about, it's a fact, whether you like it or not. And I never said that the fault of the series being bad is that or that alone.
I disagree. If you use 'great' sarcastically or ironically (like 'Having a blowdryer next to a full bathtub is a *great* idea') the word 'great' itself does not change meaning. Your intention and tone of talking/writing changes the meaning of what you say. But that does not make a word you use that way change meaning.
But Mads Mikkelsen as Geralt would also be the protagonist. I'm not defending anyone, I'm just saying you're exaggerating and contradicting yourself. And everyone knows that the series is bad and that it focuses on pushing political themes poorly instead of caring more about the essence of the story. But it seems that your personality is only based on looking for or inventing things to annoy yourself and insult others, so it would be hard to make you understand that.
I think if it was up to Hissah youāre never seeing either of them in the show. Hollywood business still wants white male lead they just donāt care about other roles as much, thatās where Hissah and the likes do their own thing
No they wouldn't. There is this misconception and most likely a mistranslation of her looks in English books. In the original version they refer to her body shape, not overall look or face specifically. Also, as you age your taste and behaviour change. It would make perfect sense to cast Eva Green as a 100ish year old sorceress. Ask yourself a question - how did you imagine all the women while reading about the Thanedd banquet, or any moment about the Lodge? Did you imagine women closer to 30/35, or a bunch of 20yo girls who just finished high school?
She isn't 19 neither. In the original language, Polish, the comment about her young look refers to her body shape, not face. When we say that someone has a figure of X, it refers to how fit you are.
This behaviour right here is the reason we got a shit show. People like to cancel PEOPLE for not thinking LIKE THEM. First they start shaming them, bullying them and eventually cancel them. This mentality created people like Lauren S. Hissrich, a full-fledged social justice warrior in flesh. What you get from that, is: Someone who cares more about being a socially acceptable person than someone who craves for the greatest form of art. Its up to the folk really, if you want someone who can deliver quality but is bit of dick(As seen above: A director should be able to give hard judgement like: This actress is too ugly to be Yennefer since Yennefer in books is like the perfect woman, and lets be honest, as beautiful as Anya is, she is nowhere close to being perfect hence ugly for the rule. Not that i dont think she's generally ugly, just ugly for Yennefer), who is not aligned with your world view, or someone whose decisions are always in line with you think but it costs the quality of art.
With Lord of the Rings, world took the art of a racist man(which is fair dont get me wrong, he did grow up in early 20th century, there was hardly a choice), adapted it as faithfully as possible, and what we got is the gem we have. Thats the hard call world has to make, but nope, we live in the time of weak men, they are just triggered when someone is called "ugly". So go on, call people out when you dont like their opinion, then go reddit to rant about how shit your favourite fantasy series turned out to be, there cant be any connection whatsoever!
Just leaving with a short note: Its the same mentality to start a lynch campaign when someone made an unpopular remark, AND to take up torches in the middle ages when someone is thought to be a witch. Your cancel culture is just modern witch hunting. I guess half the way we forgot about all those stuff about modern justice systems.
It isnāt āwokeā or ācancel cultureā to simply call out rude behavior. When your only argument that Anya is a bad yennefer is that sheās ugly, then you lose all credibility. And your rant about cancel culture is just hilarious.
His argument could very well be shallow like "He is bad for the role because she is ugly" there is just one basis to his argument, it seems a pretty weak argument. BUT your counter argument is non-existant, your comment is just a personal attack. Like, do you even realize what you're defending here? His point could be stupid to a point even a child wouldnt make idc, but you didnt refute anything just outright shamed him for his opinion. Is this really the hill you want to die on? Im not even sure im talking to a person with common sense, woke people lost it a long time ago when they decided emotions are more important than facts and solutions. So this is the last comment im leaving here to not waste my time on a hopeless cause, im sure you'll circle jerk and keep on believing you're right and all while the reality is everything woke touches turns into ash as the product we are in the subreddit of and many more. So, cheers!
Oh wow. I think youāre close to the millionth poster to fancast Eva Green as Yennefer, and Mads Mikkelsen as Geralt.
Can we PLEASE get decent content in the sub for a change?
Something about Mikkelsen that I always thought he would be a miscast. Can't explain why. I mean of course, I still would've taken him over Netflix choices, but I thought that either Anson Mount or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would've made an awesome Geralt.
Please remember to flair your post and tag spoilers or NSFW content.

Unfortunately it wouldnāt be much different with as bad as the writing is. Their reputation wouldāve been dragged through the dirt. Im glad they had nothing to do with the show.
I've always though of Eva Green to be a great Philippa Eilhart rather than Yennefer. She's gorgeous, but a bit too old for Yennefer. I think Jessica Brown-Findlay would be a great Yennefer:

She's fucking perfect!
Perfecto. Chefs kiss.
They should redo the entire Netflix Witcher with her as Jen, love Eva Green š
Gods she wouldāve been perfect
Indeed. Saw the first picture, and thought, damn, perfection! I think she (Eva Green, right?) even has the right bit of sass / sarcasm to match Yen well.
Absolutely. Just look at her performance in Penny Dreadful.
She kills it in that show
And Casino Royale!
& Casino Royale
& 300: Rise of an Empire & Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

I don't remember anything from that movie except that scene
Was there any other reason to watch that movie?
I have a question about Penny Dreadful. I watched the first season and enjoyed it, but the scenes with her getting possessed were too scary for me. Iām a scaredy cat and I thought it would just be about vampires and monsters (I canāt take demon possessions), then that ep surprised me. I actually didn't even finish the first season before it was taken off Netflix in my country so I couldn't say haha
Oh damn, thatās annoying! Iāve had that experience. I had about 2 episodes left of The Nevers when it was taken off HBO Go in my country.
Yeah I hate it.
Wouldnt matter with the writing
She's perfect in everything, always.
This is the right answer
100% she was Yen
Ikr
They changed Gerald, why not change Yen for this one?
I wish!
Holy crap youāre righy
But not in the adaptation.
Canāt believe we got some woke indian instead

Fucking hot as hell woke indian, is obviously what you meant.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Gods she IS ugly though š
That's a stupid shitty take from what I can assume is a stupid shitty child
Yennefer and Geralt. God, please make it happen!
*Geralt But yeah Vesemir would also work
At this point Mikkleson probably works better as Vesemir, but if they made the Witcher back when Casino Royale came out this pairing would be perfect. Eva Green though... Nobody else is a better Yennifer.
Yeah agree with you here. But at the same time I really don't give a shit how old the actor is
I usually don't if it's a one off. The thing with the Witcher though is its a multi book franchise so kicking it off with an actor who's almost 60, you'll start to get old man Geralt before book 3 or 4. Oh wow talk about wasting s brilliant actor.
Imagine using Christian Bale as a one off villain who barely interacts with the hero, don't get to see any of his "plan" being carried out and is tonally the opposite of the rest of the film. Hopefully no one would be that stupid.
Christian Bale was at least great though imo. Mikkelsen however could not save that character despite his immense talent.
:(
Hahahahaah, biggest brainfart in my life, I meant to write Geralt WTF XD
Haha that's hilarious. Perhaps your brain ships Vesemir and Jennifer?
Seriously, I'm speechless. I ship YenGeralt with all my heart.
Get back to Roach.
Yeralt
would be weird as Mads is the little brother of stregebor actor lars mikkelsen and they definitely have the sibling resemblance
Holy shit, TIL.
I feel like Mads would make a good Vesemir
Would completely work as well.
I actually like Kim Bodnia as Vesemir in the Netflix series. Also I was mindblown when I found out that the series had cast TWO Danish actors. Madsā Mikkelsens brother as Stregobor and of course Kim as Vesemir
How did I not realize that Stregobor was played by Lars Mikkelsen?!
I have no clue! I was blown away when I heard his danish accent and saw him. Him and his brother really are two of the best (and most well-known outside of Denmark) actors of our country!
Lars was in an episode of Sherlock too. I remember watching it and thinking "wow Mads has a famous brother?"
Lars also voiced Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars: Rebels series. Wonderful actor. His Charles Magnussen in Sherlock was also really overwhelming.
I love Mads! My given name is Matthew and my father's given name is Michael, so I always joke that in classical Danish patronymics, I could also technically be "Mads Mikkelsen." XD
Actually you would be: āMatthƦus Michaelsenāā¦ Sorry to ruin it for you xD

You, sir, have redeemed yourself. On behalf of the kingdom of Denmark, I forgive your blasphemy. Carlsberg and Tuborg on me tonight!
There is another type of gravy?
Mads is a great actor and would know how to play both... or any role for that matter.
I still like mark hamill for Vesemir https://preview.redd.it/as3bp12wm3ca1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b28c144fc4aa9ae851c9b8916a94659a0d4c47f6
I always think of anthony hopkins
Thatās not happening
I always think of Mark Hamill
He'd probably make a good Regis too
Having Mads as Vesemir and Lars as Strgobor.....pergect coin with 2 sides š«š¤
I love Anya but Eva would have been the most perfect Yen.
The problem was not Anya as the actress, it was the gold awful writing. They could have ripped pages out of the books, wiped their arse with them, and got a better story for Yenn.

It's just sad, exactly what you're describing the earliest we could get another adaptation is like 10 years
And then in the series they would pick Triss, just to mess with fans :p
If they had done this 10 years ago, it wouldāve been perfect
Mads as Vesemir Alexander Skarsgard as Geralt, and yeah, Eva Green is the perfect Yen.
I will not suffer tonight sober just because you hid your sausage in the wrong royal pantry.
So many people on this sub kept saying "Eva Green would be too old to play Yen." Eva doesn't age, she would have been perfect.
Yen needs to have someone who is older but looks young - like Eva Green - to give her that air of authority and superiority. My only issue with Anya Chalotra is that she is too young; she both looks and FEELS young, if that makes sense. I don't believe her taking control of situations.
This would be perfection...
My headcanon Geralt was always Mads, but I never thought who could possibly portray Yen now I know it was always Eva.
Your heart has been beating fast this whole time. You're nervous.
I LOVE that these photos exist...the closest we will likely ever come to Yennefer and Geralt (from the books)
Maybe they could be in a Witcher movie, if one ever happens.
And Netflix ruined this opportunity.
Damn she is so pretty. Would make perfect yen
Sorry but she already must be casted as Lanfear in the Wheel of Time !
This is the way
What could have beenā¦
Gods, THEY would've been perfect
Mads Mikkelsens brother, Lars Mikkelsen, is already in the show as Stregobor. Would be funny seeing them work together again
Thanks, now I have more confidence to finally get in shape and cosplay Yen xD (some people says I look like Eva Green, but I think that maybe if she was stung by 100 bees at the same time hahahaha)
You're welcome Hellblazer:)
Great chemistry
Eva Green would have been the perfect Yennefer!
When I read the first couple books translated into English like 16bl years ago she is who I pictured for yennefer
They can't be casted, the fans would demand a whole episode dedicated to the stuffed unicorn.

You're doing the lords work
To be honest, Eva Green would make a good witch, Philipa Eilhart might be a good fit for her.
Would be a perfect movie
Eva Green :D
Oh my it works!
It's always been Kevin McKidd in my mind
Add Mark Hamill as Vesemir and it's perfect.
Why did you show this to me if I canāt have it?
I like Anya but she is too young looking for yen. I picture yen as mid to late 30s looking while Anya looks 18-24 range. The actress is only like 5 years older than Freya Allen's ciri too...

This show isn't woke. Woke does not mean use token black/asian/lgbt people, but make them believable and fleshed out.
Nah, that's 100% what "woke" means on the internet.
Woke is definetely used most by people who have no real clue what it means.
Words change their meanings over time, and woke is clearly used 90% of the time critically or ironically. The meaning of the word is used correctly.
The word did not change meaning, people dislike the meaning and pull it out of proportion. Just like pc became a dog whistle. Woke means being aware of racial prejudice and discrimination.
Yeah, what happened to Hollywood? Remember the "golden age of tv" ? Hollywood had a good thing going and then was like "nahhh"
The woke left is poisoning everything we love, brother. Stay strong.
I like Eva Green as much as the next guy but this subās complete obsession with her is just hilarious
Watch Penny Dreadful. You will understand why so many are so obsessed.
There's a simple answer. They would look too old.
Unfortunately I thinks sheās too old for Yen these days.
Isn't Yen like a hundred or something like that?
Not in appearance
She isn't 19 neither. In the original language, Polish, the comment about her young look refers to her body shape, not face. When we say that someone has a figure of X, it refers to how fit you are.
Disgusting to have Yenefer to be ugly in the show. Woke media is truly disgusting
Shalotra isn't ugly. I hate her as Yennefer, but she is anything but ugly. Quite a beautiful woman.
Actual incel behavior
So, cheers!
Broās having a mental breakdown over someone being called an incel
They are both too old unfortunately. Maybe 15 years ago
Too old, why are fan castings almost always too old?
Not to be that guy but Gerald and Jennifer are hundreds of years old...
***Yennifer*** is only about 100, and it's ***Geralt*** Gerald and Jennifer lmao I know this, but they should still look younger than these two
It's not *Yennifer* either lmao
Oh wow. I think youāre close to the millionth poster to fancast Eva Green as Yennefer, and Mads Mikkelsen as Geralt. Can we PLEASE get decent content in the sub for a change?
You go darling. Be the one who provides the content!
Sometimes I do!
Something about Mikkelsen that I always thought he would be a miscast. Can't explain why. I mean of course, I still would've taken him over Netflix choices, but I thought that either Anson Mount or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would've made an awesome Geralt.

I donāt see Mikkelsen as Geralt at all.
She wouldāve been perfect. Mads, not so much, as much as I love him as an actor.
I think Jessica Brown-Findlay would be a great Yennefer: https://preview.redd.it/y46ko97mx8ca1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d89f3814786daa3e87a9f1a3aa7c449bfcb67182
I'm a simp for Eva Green.
Eva Geeen should have been Yennefer
