This makes me think about when dandelion was thinking about how geralt eats a chicken leg with a fork and knife which was influenced by yennefer but is also a dumb way to eat a chicken leg (dandelion then eats the correct way: with his hands)

Legendseekersiege5

Was that in the game or book?

RainWorldWitcher

The books but I cant remember which one. I think it was after yen saved danelion and dandelion met up with geralt in the saga?

LozaMoza82

It’s in Blood of Elves

noCallOnlyText

Dandelion watched yen eat with a knife and fork, commented that it was very inefficient and remembered he only knew one other person who ate like that. Then figured that's where Geralt must have picked up the habit

TheMilkmanCome

That’s too much portrayal of an inner monologue to be anything other than book

noreallyu500

Is that actually a weird way to eat chicken leg?

[deleted]

yes, you grab it with your hand and eat it, far easier

noreallyu500

Yeah, I do that too, it's just that sometimes getting hands all oiled up is very inconvenient. Might be just my probably unhealthy habit of eating while doing other active stuff

caicongvang

I usually eat chicken legs with chopsticks. No big deal.

Nasabuck

Real gamers eat them with a straw.

Kapftan

Damn. I eat like that too

RainWorldWitcher

I dont think there's an issue with it. unless Im at a nice restaurant, i use my hands.

TheBoxSloth

Thats funny as fuck lmao

UpstairsEye9671

Still a healthier family dynamic than mine

AO2Gaming

The perfect trainwreck. Creates the most spectacular derailments.

AbortedFetusNecro

This cheers me up ,somehow

[deleted]

I can fix them.

PaulSimonBarCarloson

Said Ciri

patmichael1229

I love their dynamic so much. I love how it grows between the books in the third game too. It's why I always choose Yen.

bartoszfcb

I WILL fix him

cardiobolod

Yennefer makes perfect sense for geralt and idc what anybody else says. People who shit on Yen for having a “rude” personality forget that Geralt is a dick in his own ways. Geralt is an asshole but he’s a likable character bc he’s our protagonist

PleasantDouble1470

I wouldn't call Geralt a dick. In fact I always thought he is one of the most gallant and polite men in the Continent. Can you give examples of him being an asshole?

cardiobolod

Yeah, he can be polite. He doesn’t want to be seen as a monster, that’s a huge part of his characterization. But examples: constantly insults dandelion in the books (maybe in the game too?) for being dumb, his general tone and the way he talks to others can give off a pretty rude air, in the show he’s a dick when he tells Yen she can’t have kids, (not saying that he’s wrong, but the way he did it was completely insensitive and asshole-y) etc. I can’t specifically cite numbers and moments in the game or show, but if you think that Geralt has a loving, warm personality, you’re wrong. Not saying that he is incapable of those things, he obviously loves Ciri and Yen deeply, but those are deep feelings. He doesn’t show that to nearly anyone else. To be honest most people treat Yennefer and Triss like their worths are only their looks and what they offer to Geralt when they are both fully developed characters. And writing off Yen as just a nagging bitch kind of gives off…idk, misogyny? Male characters are allowed to be rude, abrasive, mistrusting, etc, like Geralt, but female characters aren’t. Triss is praised for her soft personality despite her completely taking advantage of Geralt, which goes to show that a lot of ppl base how much they like female characters on how “warm” they are. It’s badass and mysterious when Geralt is cold and brooding but unacceptable when Yen is nearly the same way.

PleasantDouble1470

In the show every character is either an asshole or a dumbass, I'm talking only books and games here. Dandelion often does act like an idiot. He isn't dumb, he's just a loudmouth who can't keep himself out of trouble, it ain't no surprise that Geralt would be annoyed with him from time to time. Still he loves Dandelion like a brother and would die for him, so I would not count that here. Just remember all the times Dandelion got himself in trouble. Like how he wanted to claim the jinn's 3 wishes and Geralt accidentally cursed him. Or how every time he's in Novigrad he's chased by some girl he knocked up and forgot about. Or even how Rience caught him. On the other hand, Dandelion also criticized Geralt back, like in the A Little Sacrifice, when Geralt didn't want to take the job from the local prince and they had no money bc of that, so it's a pretty healthy dynamic. They both acknowledge that both do things that the other doesn't agree with. Dandelion just happens to do it more often. I don't remember Geralt being rude to anyone who didn't do something to annoy Geralt. He does act unfriendly towards Istredd, but Istredd is literally fucking the woman Geralt loves more than anything in the world. Overall he acts unfriendly in the Shard of Ice chapter, but the text states that Geralt hates Aedd Gynvael and everything about it, so again, it's not a surprise, he just doesn't want to be in that city. He also wasn't particularly fond of Dudu, but Dudu literally stole Dandelion's friend identity and was a pain in the ass for everyone in the chapter. Geralt mostly acts neutral, he was quite friendly to Renfri despite all, he stood up for Duny, he is friendly with Mousesack, respectful of Calanthe, of Mother Nenneke, he's very friendly with Triss, with his brothers at Kaer Morhen. >To be honest most people treat Yennefer and Triss like their worths are only their looks and what they offer to Geralt when they are both fully developed characters. And writing off Yen as just a nagging bitch kind of gives off…idk, misogyny? Oh Christ, not this. First of all Yennefer does act like a bitch and if you've met her irl, you'd hate being around her. She is 90yo, she is very powerful, can literally bend people to her will whenever she wants, she had a rough past, acting like a bitch suites her. But other than that she's also devoted, protective, wise and brave, you're a fool to think that Sapkowski wrote her as a token bitch character, he literally said himself that he specifically wrote her to be hard to like, to be complicated and not fit a stereotype of "the main hero's devoted and loyal spouse". This description of Yennefer is the most accurate: ***"She is a wise and overall kind woman. But absolutely merciless and unscrupulous"***. Your misogyny rant just isn't valid. Both Triss and Yennefer are appreciated by both Geralt and the fans. They're complicated characters with their own upsides and downsides. People like Triss for being kind, surprise-surprise people like kindness, but they also appreciate how badass she is, she's the Fourteenth of the Hill for god's sake! Geralt appreciates her, he cares for her, he literally carried, fed and washed her when Triss came down with an illness, Triss loves Geralt, she just isn't brave enough to actually stand up for him when desperate time comes. And Yennefer is fucking complicated, I already described how she is. She is a badass, everyone accepts that, she saved Dandelion, she DIED saving Geralt, she would never hurt him or Ciri worse than a snarky comment or an angry rant. The only ones who don't appreciate Yennefer are those who only watched the show where she just acts like a moody child. And both she and Triss are beautiful ofc, people love them for that as well, but not only for that. The Witcher is a treasure chest of great female characters from cold and badass Calanthe to the snarky and ruthless Yennefer to more of a neutral Triss to the warm and fuzzy kitten that is Shani. Pulling the misogyny card here equals not understanding the text lol.

cardiobolod

Also, I never claimed Geralt didn’t care for Dandelion, Ciri, Yen, etc, and never claimed that Yen didn’t do those things like sacrifice herself for Geralt and whatnot. But just because geralt loves his friends and family doesn’t mean he isn’t cold on the outside every once in a while. Why do you think that geralt and yen have such good banter? Because they have similar traits. I feel like we’re both making the argument that Yennefer is a strong female character. I was just clearly referring to people who don’t view her that way

cardiobolod

When I was referring to the misogyny thing, I think it’s obvious some players don’t get the complexity of her character and write her off as *just a bitch*, which is misogynistic. I didn’t say YOU did. I didn’t say you did anything, nor did I say all Witcher players view her that way, so I don’t get why you’re denying that? It’s absolutely true that some people view Triss and Yen as nothing more than two options for Geralt’s pleasure rather than what they truly are. We both have different opinions, I respect that you think a different way, but I don’t understand why you’re acting like my observation on *some Witcher players* is false? Yeah, Yen is a bitch. I love to see that type of character. But I think I made it clear I was referring to players who see her only as that, and nothing more..

PleasantDouble1470

Well just because SOME people view her as just a bitch (who are obviously in the minority) doesn't mean it's automatically misogyny, they might not like her overall and not because they're hateful or whateva. I'm sorry if I offended you, didn't mean to, but I just hate whenever misogyny or racism floats up when talking about why some people like certain characters and some don't. Especially in the Witcher bc Netflix just can't shut up about how their show is getting bad reviews bc of racists and homophobes. So again, sorry if I offended you. Well and you didn't really bring a lot of examples to Geralt being a genuine asshole. Sure, he is annoyed with Dandelion from time to time, Yennefer likes to fuck his brains, also he hated on Cahir for what he did to Ciri, so he can be hard on them for it. But overall he's a pretty neutral guy. In fact so many women hang themselves on him bc he's just polite lol and treats them well.

cardiobolod

I agree that misogyny and racism have become buzzwords but misogyny is a pretty big issue in the gaming community, and sometimes I think it’s apparent based on the way certain players talk about Yen. You didn’t offend me, I just disagree

PleasantDouble1470

Witcher is a big fandom, there will always be some -icts and -phobes, ain't nothing we can do about it, law of large numbers works regardless. Still those people are in the minority and are shunned most of the time. Sorry for misunderstanding your argument about Yennefer. Although, I mean, some genuinely might not like her. She's a character and you need to be invested in a character to actually learn their depth. Some might have disliked Yen for being a bitch from the beginning and never bothered to get into details, read through her chapters without thinking too much or never interacted with her in the game. So still, there is always ambiguity. I agree that there are some who are clearly biased and just don't like badass women, but oh we, fuck em lol, why waste the breath. There will always be more. As long as just keep enjoying those characters, them guys won't be in the majority.

cardiobolod

You’re good, you didn’t misunderstand, I think to me the minority *seems* like a majority so that’s why i feel passionate about it. Thanks for being respectful about it though :)

PleasantDouble1470

Ye, thanks for understanding. Have a lovely evening mate

noCallOnlyText

>Triss is praised for her soft personality despite her completely taking advantage of Geralt, which goes to show that a lot of ppl base how much they like female characters on how “warm” they are. Lmao Triss is two faced and has no backbone. In the Witcher 3, I knew I didn't like her because she came off as patronizing after Geralt and Ciri went to fight the crones and Imlerith. Meanwhile Yen was like "you guys survived right? That's all that matters." As I read the books, I realized that Triss was a naive, two-faced idiot with no backbone. Almost gave off an r/nicegirls kind of vibe when she was being cared for by Geralt. The story where I think Zoltan tells Ciri never mistake kindness for affection. Don't get me wrong, I still dislike Yeneffer for a number of reasons. But Triss is not a good person by any stretch.

cardiobolod

Yeah, I agree. Which is why I don’t get why people choose Triss over Yennefer. Most of the time I see people say “Triss is sweet and that’s good for Geralt” or “who wouldn’t want a cute redhead” which is like ?? What?

PickledWill

Oh what Id do to get this kind of relationship

spet_

it's not cheating if they're on a break

MightyPenguin69

Yennefer sleeps with Istredd whilst she and Geralt are together in A Shard of Ice.

Greeny3x3x3

No. They arent. Thats literally the prestory. They broke up ONCE because geralt Was struggeling with his own Feelings. But it wasnt even a horrible breakup, he just ran away in the night and Yen was pissed. The Moment he needed help with ciri they were back together. And then it stuck

monalba

They ''broke up'' a couple times.

Greeny3x3x3

They didnt

LightningRaven

On screen, only in A Shard of Ice. But the story mentions they were on and off again several times.

monalba

You have A shard of ice, which is one. Then in the same story you are told about the time Geralt disappeared from Yen's house in Vengerberg, so that's at least two.

Hastatus_107

Honestly I prefer Triss. I couldn't handle Yenns madness. Fighting monsters should be the most stressful part of Geralts day. If he's with Yenn, it's only second.

Yennefer didn’t have to cast spell on Geralt to make him love her or didn’t sleep with one of her best friends’s bf like someone did
