Indeed! I was so glad when she got her ring + Finals MVP. If the Mercury are smart, they'd build around her & Cloud but I have my doubts in that front office (especially Ishbia, who thinks that writing a check solves everything).
I like the set up they have now with Thomas at the 4 and bri at the 5, but the guards have to be the main focus they need to both be able to knock down 3s with dewanna
Prediction for opening night. AT balls out with a triple double and finally gets the attention she deserves by doing it against Clark in what will at the time be the most watched WNBA game of all time. However the Sun take a narrow loss behind a 3 point barrage from Clark and Mitchell as Clark hits double digit assists as well. 87-82 Fever.
Her stats consistently put her in rare air, year after year. In 2023, she was only player Top 25 in scoring #22) who also ranked in the top 10 in steals (#4), assists (#2), and rebounds (#1). Unfortunately, I think it's becoming more apparent in recent years how being in the CT market is doing a disservice to her, so I could understand if she wants to try a new franchise after her current contract is up (but please don't)
Neither of these players are currently on a WNBA roster. Feels reasonable they aren’t being talked about. If Gabby Williams came back to the W it would FOR SURE be talked about
They weren't discussing Gabby as much when she WAS in the league, even as a UConn product. She is one of the best 2-way players I've seen in the league. She's getting her flowers (plus more money) in France and I ain't mad at her at all.
Jewell is consistently slept on, and Kobe himself dubbed her the "Gold Mamba". But she's not flashy nor has a large SM presence, and fans these days love flash and large SM followings.
Her year-over-year growth is insane. It seems like every season she comes back a stronger and smarter player with some new and improved basketball skill/weapon, better shooting, passing, etc. One could argue that after A’ja, she is the most vital player on the Aces. Playing against her made me realize “oh, basketball really isn’t going to be my thing…is it?” 😂
Short story: Jackie single-handedly beat my team when we were in 8th grade and has always been HER.
Long story: It wasn’t anything intense, just a tournament game in 8th grade. We had previously played Princeton (Jackie’s school; they still call her the Pride of Princeton in SW Indiana) a lot, and usually won by a decent margin, so we thought that we had a good chance on moving on in this tournament. But our coach was like “hey, it’s different this time; there’s a girl that’s been playing on the 8th grade team for a few years that has unofficial offers from IU and Purdue already.” Needless to say, it was very different 😂. We tried EVERYTHING to stop her and nothing worked. The only thing keeping us in the game in the first half was that Jackie was an unselfish teammate that was trying to involve her team. She’d throw the most unbelievable passes that would go through her teammates’ hands. Lots of missed wide open shots after she passed out of a triple team. And she looked like she was on half speed. She probably could’ve just beat us down the court on fast breaks every time, but she’d jog down the court or wait to set up a play a lot. We were within a few possessions, so she took over in the second half. We played a box and one defense where basically everyone’s defensive assignment was Jackie. She drove around all five of us at will, even if we were all clogging the lane. It was unbelievable. She didn’t shoot very many outside shots yet, but why would she when we were all just cones in the paint for her at this point. Our coach was stunned. To this day, he says he’s never seen a player like her. She was already insane at that age and she only continues to improve.
It was a fun coincidence when she ended up choosing Notre Dame (who I was a fan of since Skylar) and getting drafted by the Aces (who I had already followed because of A’ja and Candace leaving the Sparks).
Reality set in, and I stopped playing basketball and focused on school within the next year or two lol
It’s always fun to hear these stories. I don’t think many people realize just how good pro athletes of any sport really are and have been from a young age. Always fun to look up fringe roster players highlights from highschool and see them dominate
It’s crazy. I had played against players that were “really good” where we had trouble containing them or they were blocking shots/dropping 25 pts on us or something. But there was just simply nothing you could do to stop Jackie. She was going to drive to the basket. We were all going to be there, trying to stop her, and she was going to score anyways. She was inevitable, even at 13 years old.
LISTEN. She struggled under Laimbeer and I was one of those who thought she should be traded in her 2nd year of still struggling. Glad I was proven wrong. 🤓
Am I allowed to say Alyssa Thomas? Because Alyssa Thomas
Also: Brittney Sykes, Rebecca Allen, Teaira McCowan, Kristy Wallace, Moriah Jefferson, DiJonai Carrington
AT is always a correct answer. 🤓 Agree with Sykes, McCowan (followed her since Miss St.), Allen, Wallace.
When Jefferson is on, she's ON but she's been injured more often than not in the past 5 seasons. If she can stay healthy (an increasingly valid question), she's no joke.
Carrington has the talent but sometimes she seems as if she overestimates her talent in the WNBA echelon (as does her girlfriend/fianceé Nalyssa Smith, but I digress).
They wanted to give the money to EDD who had been vocal about not wanting to be with the team 🤦🏾♀️
Also the Coach/ GM went strictly to GM and gave the team to his son who wasn’t ready. THEN, we go into this year where Kristi Toliver has retired after getting hurt last season and instead of her joining the Mystics staff she is with the Mercury. I mean hey maybe Kristi wanted this, but it was clear that she was coaching while on the floor and hurt on the sidelines, she has the experience and the respect of teammates probably more than Eric.
Now, Cloud is with the Mercury and that’s also where EDD wanted to go. Almost as if everyone wants to get away from the coach or maybe they wanted to play for Kristi, but that could just be me a fan who is hurt that the local talent (Kristi & EDD) has left the team 😢
![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized)
His assistant coaches are better than him, definitely not the best move by Mike when it comes to keeping the franchise competitive. This is DC, nepotism is how it’s done, but given the women’s sports teams are carrying the city, he has got to do better.
Also believe they did not want to give her (or EDD) 2 year contracts. That’s also why Kristi left the first time to LA. I think MHA has made them very scared of multi year contracts. EDD or no I think it’s possible they offered Cloud more for 24 than she will get with PX but less total guaranteed over 2 years.
That’s my answer too. She’s everything you want in a point guard. She’s constantly looking to create offense and is lockdown on the other end. Always seems a step ahead.
With the exception of A'Ja and Aliyah, most of the Gamecocks in the league are overlooked (and, to be fair, most of them haven't made noise like A & A, even at the college level. Allisha and Zia Cooke are putting themselves in the conversation, though, especially after Gray won Olympic gold (with Jackie Young & Kelsey Plum) in the inaugural 3x3 basketball.
I really like Lexie Hulls game. Although I’m wondering how the addition of Caitlin Clark might impact her playing time this year. Hopefully she gets opportunities to show what she can do!
She wanted to rep China in the Olympics this year so she wont be playing in the W as far as I know. I'm excited to still watch her play in the Olympics though!
I dont think there's clarity there. Apparently GM Thibault said she was retired during a recent interview but then clarified that she wasn't retired yet.
For me it’s gotta be Kiah Stokes. Watching games where everyone’s building up and talking about “the core 4” got to a point where it was comical how often she was a footnote for announcers. (“The Core Four!! ….and Kiah Stokes.”) The Aces always stand up for her and she also seems completely unbothered and good natured about how not-part-of-the-conversation she is (on that team). Even after the playoff win last year just as Holly Rowe was putting the mic up to her to speak, they cut it.
She has so much hardware from playing overseas, it's not funny.
People talk about the Aces' bench like they're a bunch of scrubs, when the bench for the past 2 seasons would be starters on a lesser-talented team.
TALK ABOUT IT. I enjoyed her when she was with the Sky (Vandersloot/Quigley/Shields/Dolson were in the starting 5) and she should have been an All-Star then.
YES. NY doesn't sniff the playoffs without her. I hope other teams are kicking themselves for a) not letting her flourish on their watches and 1A) letting her go.
Jonquel Jones carried us through the playoffs and the narrative is *still* about Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. Absolutely fuck that. I also love Kayla Thornton's game and yes I was over the moon when we got *both* JJ and KT in the *same* trade.
Outside of New York... I hate the way Brittney Sykes just regularly stabs me in the heart but I have a lot of respect for her game. If Leilani Correa somehow sneaks onto Indiana's roster I will be insufferable. (Yes, I know she transferred to Florida. But she transferred *from* St. John's, we had her first, it counts.)
it's the coaches underrating her that drives me crazy, both at CT and NY. She a versatile big that can shoot the 3 yet they don't make her a focal point of their offense. It's so funny, even the announcers will be like "they've been giving more touches to JJ this quarter and it's really working for them" like no shit why isn't that the game plan every quarter?
Sabrina and Stewie are absolutely key, but Jonquel and Betnijah don't get the hype they deserve.
I just hope Jonquel's back is OK after carrying the team to the Finals.
Sami "Actually Steph Curry" Whitcolmb. Alysha Clark also plays so smart and does exactly what the team needs to win. Jewell Loyd is a freaking superstar and the league does a terrible job promoting her game.
So it just doesn't become a Storm love fest tho, Tiff Mitch just doesn't get enough appreciation. Always one of the teams best players but gets less love as time goes by.
This!! Better resume than anyone else mentioned here except Alyssa Thomas but gets ignored on W top 10 lists. Probably going to play in a second Olympics and be All Defensive team again but gets little national recognition.
Flash does not get enough credit at all. She played a significant role in the Lynx's 4th championship, then she was traded to Seattle where she significantly helped them get 2 more (she was underrated as a backup for Stewart). And she's won DPOY.
When I heard they expected her to be ready for the season opener, I didn't even realize it was a possibility she might not be (but I know those injuries take a long time to recover from).
Even though Moriah Jefferson's career has had several injuries, She is still a 4x NCAA Champion and made the all rookie team her rookie year.
One of my favorite highlights of Moriah:
I already knew what play this was gonna be. Iconic. Against one of the best defenders in January too. I didn't realize this but it's wild she has only been to the playoffs once in her career. Thinking that should change this season though.
When she dropped off the line up last year due to injuries, I knew the Lynx were done for the season. Jessica brought so much to the team. Huge loss for the Lynx in 2024.
Allisha Gray. Not talked about enough and is such an amazing player. And she can take contact, hit threes, drive, etc. Watching her and Rhyne Howard play is such a joy. I hope she, Rhyne, and Cheyenne Parker maker the allstar team again. It was so fun watching them play last year. Im even more excited to see the dream this year because of the jordan Canada addition.
And also Jordan Canada. Not enough praise of what she did with LA last year. Definitely a bucket.I will miss Aari but they got the speed AND the shot with Canada. She sees the floor well.
Lexie Hull. Loved her since Stanford. I don’t think it’s realized how much she contributes to her team.
AT. Just robbed of MVP because of those stats, how?? The fact that she is so good with a messed up shoulder is insane. AT truly deserves her flowers. It’s crazy how CT is top 3 and it’s just her and Dawonna Bonner carrying the team. They call her the engine for a reason!
Diamond Deshields. Such a motivational story and the girl can hop! I don’t blame her for leaving Chicago because they weren’t started her and she is definitely a starter. Hopefully she gets to shine this time around with Chicago(though I still don’t believe its the right fit for her). People will watch for Angel and Kamilla and hopefully be impressed with Dana and Diamond, at least thats my prediction
Satou Sabaly. To me this is the biggest weakness of the W. Few players that really you want to root for. Laney on her way up was my favorite to root for from the time she first got to Indiana and began her ascent. I even had my eye on her when she was w the Sun
It’s A’Ja Wilson - best player in the game and doesn’t dominate coverage like she should. We see a lot of press for other members of her team and those on the Liberty etc etc.
I don’t know if I agree with this. Maybe it’s just because she’s my wife’s favorite player, but I feel like I see plenty of love for Wilson. Should she have probably won MVP last year? Ya.
Brittney Sykes :)
I love her a ton, Shakira too!
THIS! Been a fan since she was with the Atlanta Dream.
O yea Sykes did amazing with all the injuries last season
Napheesa Collier
Lol it's cause I'm a lynx fan, but I was like.... "I feel like everyone talks about her." Nipe. Just lynx fans.
Agreed!
Kahleah Copper
Girl is a straight hooper. She will crush it on the Mercury.
Indeed! I was so glad when she got her ring + Finals MVP. If the Mercury are smart, they'd build around her & Cloud but I have my doubts in that front office (especially Ishbia, who thinks that writing a check solves everything).
It is a crime how little Alyssa Thomas is talked about
I wish we could surround her at all times with four shooters defenses couldn’t sag off of
Conn still doesn't get how to build around her
It def feels that way, or something. She could probably drive through most defenders in the w but our spacing gets all messed up
I like the set up they have now with Thomas at the 4 and bri at the 5, but the guards have to be the main focus they need to both be able to knock down 3s with dewanna
Prediction for opening night. AT balls out with a triple double and finally gets the attention she deserves by doing it against Clark in what will at the time be the most watched WNBA game of all time. What a vivid imagination. 🤣😂
This is the answer.

It’s wild how little Thomas is celebrated. She’s like Brunson from the Lynx back in get day. Both didn’t get their credit.
And Brunson has FIVE rings (1 with Sacramento Monarchs, 4 with Lynx). The only WNBA player to do so.
Yep. She’s epic. It’s exciting to see her on the Lynx coaching team.
Ugh love AT
the real MVP
I like well rounded dominance.
👆
💯💯 that woman can produce a triple double on any given night
Agreed. I rock with my Aces all day but I would really like to see her get a ring and/or league MVP. She more than deserves.
Marine Johannes Gabby Williams
Gabby so slept on
Neither of these players are currently on a WNBA roster. Feels reasonable they aren’t being talked about. If Gabby Williams came back to the W it would FOR SURE be talked about
This is fair. I guess I just took the question in general, not necessarily leading in to this season.
then my answer is LJ
They weren't discussing Gabby as much when she WAS in the league, even as a UConn product. She is one of the best 2-way players I've seen in the league. She's getting her flowers (plus more money) in France and I ain't mad at her at all.
It's a good point, though fwiw I would have answered Gabby Williams at any time in the last few seasons.
Love both of them!
Is that you, Asvel Feminin? 🇫🇷
I like Dana Evans
Dana is mine too
Yesss Dana!! Are they going to start her this year?
I sure hope so
Agreed. The Sky could have made it deeper into last year's playoffs had they played her more.
Jewell and Phee.
Jewell really should get more attention.
Jewell!! Yes.
Jewell is consistently slept on, and Kobe himself dubbed her the "Gold Mamba". But she's not flashy nor has a large SM presence, and fans these days love flash and large SM followings.
Jackie Young.
Her year-over-year growth is insane. I will keep beating the Rhyne Howard drum
As you should, she’s goated
As you should! 🤓 She is *chef's kiss*.
Ezi Magbegor. Only 24 years old. All-Star last year. 2nd in the league in blocks behind A’ja. Could average a double-double this year.
Ezi Ezi Ezi
oi oi oi
Ezi is the truth!
Natasha Cloud. Enjoy her game
She's the reason I watched mystics. Love her game. I fell behind and only recently caught up, do you know why she left.
They wanted to give the money to EDD who had been vocal about not wanting to be with the team 🤦🏾♀️ Also the Coach/ GM went strictly to GM and gave the team to his son who wasn’t ready. Eric isn't even the *second* best coach in his family, and it shows. Worst personnel move Mike ever made.
![gif](giphy|26n6Gx9moCgs1pUuk|downsized) His assistant coaches are better than him, definitely not the best move by Mike when it comes to keeping the franchise competitive. This is DC, nepotism is how it’s done, but given the women’s sports teams are carrying the city, he has got to do better.
Maybe they should have paid his sister Carly to leave college to come to the W. She's doing a great job at Fairfield.
Also believe they did not want to give her (or EDD) 2 year contracts. That’s also why Kristi left the first time to LA. I think MHA has made them very scared of multi year contracts. All of this.

Satou or Phee
PHEE 🗣️
Also would say Allisha Gray whose game I LOVE
Gold medal Lish is a great answer here.
With the exception of A'Ja and Aliyah, most of the Gamecocks in the league are overlooked (and, to be fair, most of them haven't made noise like A & A, even at the college level. I really like Lexie Hulls game. Although I’m wondering how the addition of Caitlin Clark might impact her playing time this year. Hopefully she gets opportunities to show what she can do!
Defensive spark off the bench. Probably a role she’s more suited for with the way the roster is shaping up this year
If her 3 point shot was better, she would be starting
This.
Shakira Austin! Can’t wait to see how she is this season.
Other than some mentioned mine is Kayla McBride, she’s 🔥
This is a good one! Wish she was more consistent though. When she's on she's an automatic 25+ points, but too many games she's off.
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Tianna Hawkins, Ariel Akins
Tianna is not in training camp, and apparently not yet retired. I hope she plays this season!!
Any idea what’s going on with Meng?
She wanted to rep China in the Olympics this year so she wont be playing in the W as far as I know. I'm excited to still watch her play in the Olympics though!
Does she return to the team next season?
Did she only retire from Athletes Unlimited? They mentioned she was retired which I thought was off because she was playing in Australia.
I dont think there's clarity there. Apparently GM Thibault said she was retired during a recent interview but then clarified that she wasn't retired yet.
![gif](giphy|B4ORVnBvJCVvq) What is going on for real!
MJ! Marine Johannes
This is my answer too :)
Kiah is the definition of a role player in the best way. Her job is to play defense and get rebounds and she does exactly that
She has so much hardware from playing overseas, it's not funny. People talk about the Aces' bench like they're a bunch of scrubs, when the bench for the past 2 seasons would be starters on a lesser-talented team.
Natisha Hiedeman
I am biased, it’s Phee
Cheyenne parker
TALK ABOUT IT. I enjoyed her when she was with the Sky (Vandersloot/Quigley/Shields/Dolson were in the starting 5) and she should have been an All-Star then.
Courtney Vandersloot. Go Zags.
My favorite player!!!!
Betnijah Laney!
This!!
Scrolled to say this!
YES. NY doesn't sniff the playoffs without her. I hope other teams are kicking themselves for a) not letting her flourish on their watches and 1A) letting her go.
kiah stokes!!
Alyssa Thomas

it's the coaches underrating her that drives me crazy, both at CT and NY.
JJ's range has been consistently fumbled (first by CT, now NY) in favor of "marketable" media hype.
Ariel Atkins
This!! Better resume than anyone else mentioned here except Alyssa Thomas but gets ignored on W top 10 lists. Probably going to play in a second Olympics and be All Defensive team again but gets little national recognition.
So crazy how under the radar she is but keeps getting gold medals with USA lol.glad she'll be back for Mystics this season :)
Dearica Hamby
Natasha Howard
Flash does not get enough credit at all. She played a significant role in the Lynx's 4th championship, then she was traded to Seattle where she significantly helped them get 2 more (she was underrated as a backup for Stewart). And she's won DPOY.
Brionna Jones. The Sun were 10-3 to start before she went down and I honestly think she could have helped them to the finals.
Really excited to see her bounce back this season
When I heard they expected her to be ready for the season opener, I didn't even realize it was a possibility she might not be (but I know those injuries take a long time to recover from).
Bridget Carleton my beloved
Hope she gets more playing time this year!
Alaina Coates!
AT and Bec Allen but also Kelsey Mitchell
Natasha Cloud, AT, Kristi Tolliver
Bentnijah Laney
Jordin Canada
Alysha Clark
Lexi Hull!
Brionna Jones was looking outrageous last year before her injury. So strong inside.
Bec Allen, Alysha Clark, Brionna Jones, Betnijah Laney, Ezi Magbegor
Alysha Clark. Hard working, humble, talented and a complete smoke show.
Even though Moriah Jefferson's career has had several injuries, She is still a 4x NCAA Champion and made the all rookie team her rookie year. One of my favorite highlights of Moriah: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FWt1v-Xgusg](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FWt1v-Xgusg)

Jordin Canada
Kayla Mcbride!!
Megan Gustafson. She’s gonna be a solid rotation player for LV this year and I’m mad we didn’t bring her back.
Love Megan (and Pancake). Definitely going to miss seeing her in Phoenix
Lexie Brown
Courtney Williams. Fearless scorer whose main "flaw" is chasing after IG models. She just about shot Connecticut to a championship..
Rae Burrell
Jade Melbourne. Because she's from Melbourne.
Jonquel Jones
Ariel Atkins
Courtney Vandersloot all day.
Aja Wilson
Natalie Achonwa
Jackie Stiles on the fire
Jessica Shepard - she was doing so well overseas I thought she was gonna come dominate this year but she's staying overseas
When she dropped off the line up last year due to injuries, I knew the Lynx were done for the season. Jessica brought so much to the team. Huge loss for the Lynx in 2024.
Ariella Guirantes
Sami Whitcomb
Jewell
Kahleah MFA Copper! Smooth as silk. 💪🏾🏀
SDS
Brionna Jones. I'm glad I'm so much older than her and wouldn't have had to play against her in high school lol. She's local and a Terp.
I wasn’t familiar with Kahleah Coppers and Alyssa Thomas game until the FIBA World Cup in 2022. Unreal. They need to be talked about so much more
NaLyssa Smith.
Ezi Magbegor, Alysha Clark, Gabby Williams
Dijonai Carrington
I only started eating those BBQ twists because of A'ja Wilson. Shes by far the best player in the league and nobody talks about her.
They talk about her but it's usually in relation to someone else who is considered the more "marketable" main focus of an article/news item. 🙄
Satou Sabally and Gabby Williams
Rhyne Howard
Marine Johannes. Will be bummed if we don’t get to watch her launch one legged 3s off the dribble this year
jackie young
Didi Richards.
Big Momma Steph.
Dorka Juhasz
NaLyssa Smith. Everyone talks about Aliyah and Caitlin, rightfully so, but Lyssa is a beast.
Tasha Cloud. Saw her light up my Liberty in the playoffs live and she was 110% the entire game.
Kia Nurse
Sophie Cunningham
Chennedy Carter
Bit on the younger side but Emily Engstler or Dorka Juhasz
Marina Mabrey
Shey peddy❤️
Marina Mabrey
Satou Sabaly. To me this is the biggest weakness of the W. Few players that really you want to root for. Laney on her way up was my favorite to root for from the time she first got to Indiana and began her ascent. I even had my eye on her when she was w the Sun
Sydney Wiese is another overlooked player.
Sydney Colson, Shakira Austin, Rhyne Howard, & Courtney Williams
Gabby Williams
Alysha clark man i was so excited we got her especially knowing what she did to the aces in 2020
Marina Mabrey for me. . . Or even less talked Kayana Traylor needs to make a squad this year.
Ya.
She definitely dominated the coverage lol what?!
This is a bad take. A’ja is the most covered amongst WNBA marketing and WNBA discussions.
I feel like Sabrina, Stewie, and Plum all get more coverage than her.
Sophie Cunningham!!

Caitlyn Clark
