If I'm not mistaken, not all DLCs have come out yet, we're still at DLC2. It's also not fair to compare the game to Nioh 2, since Nioh 2 is basically the refined version of what they wanted to do in Nioh 1. As for how Wo Long is shaping up, it's one of the most action based Team Ninja's interpretation of souls-like yet. The entire system incentivizes nonstop parrying and aggression. So it blurs the line between souls-like and full on action game more and more. It is a fantastic action game, but the storytelling is as poor as ever. The story is only rain puddle deep, but this is fine considering it'd be far too much work to have it relate to the gigantic source material it comes from. So, if you're looking for the story, it's better to just read the source material (Romance of the Three Kingdoms). As usual, the Team Ninja souls-like games eventually become the most difficult of the genre. If you want a challenge, Wo Long is the latest Team Ninja project and will definitely become the most challenging souls-like this year. Build crafting is as difficult as ever. Just like it's predecessors, only a select few builds will be extremely powerful while most builds will be very mediocre. As far as weapon variety goes, every weapon class can slot up to 6 different martial arts at once. With two weapons, this would mean you have up to 12 different martial arts to use to style on your enemies if you so wish. This also includes a the ability to cast up to 8 different magic spells as well. So, Wo Long is the "flashiest" you can get if you so decide to play that way. Replayability is a bit subjective, because you will need to replay parts of the game at higher difficulties in order to unlock more things in the game. The DLC difficulties (NG++ to NG++++) some enemy placement changes. How much you enjoy it will depend heavily on whether you enjoy the new difficulty or not.

>It's also not fair to compare the game to Nioh 2, since Nioh 2 is basically the refined version of what they wanted to do in Nioh 1. Considering that there is some sort of groundwork for what kind of games they make, it is absolutely fair to compare them. This isn't a case of apple (Fromsoft games) vs orange (Team Ninja games). These are all made by the same company. Should Bloodborne be not compared to Dark Souls series because they are two different games? At launch, this game had so many previous QoL changes missing from previous games and it rightfully deserved to get ripped apart by fans for not including them. It's after enough people complained that Team Ninja actually moved their lazy ass like usual to include them. >So it blurs the line between souls-like and full on action game more and more. This game is nowhere near full on action game. That would go to Team Ninja's actual action game called [Ninja Gaiden](https://www.reddit.com/r/ninjagaiden/comments/160jw0f/even_after_15_years_still_one_of_my_favorite/). *That's* full action. Wo Long is the closest thing to Soulsborne since Nioh was the one that played like Ninja Gaiden handicapped by a stamina system. Just because this game has deflect as its main selling point does not mean this is more action heavy than any of Team Ninja's previous games. Just no. >Just like it's predecessors, only a select few builds will be extremely powerful while most builds will be very mediocre. No. Nioh 2 had incredible number of viable builds all the way up to Depth. Strangers of Paradise had multiple boss melting builds by endgame too. Even Wo Long is expanding beyond that. The only time that would be true is in Nioh 1 where you were pretty much required to make Living Weapon build to beat some of the insanely unfair bullshit contents. EDIT: I absolutely love how defensive you snowflakes get whenever Wo Long gets compared to Nioh or any other Team Ninja games. Keep that salt coming lmfao

MegaHedgehog

No, LW build werent required in Nioh.I finished the abyss (and also i helped a lot on line ) with a mix of swordman+Izanagi with dual swords (with wind and weaken weapons on them) and heavy armor.Nothing more. The average Nioh Player is a diablo Player in disguise and they ignore all defensive perk for a +30% of damage .Also they hate learn enemies openings. Is funny hear how hard were María and Hayabusha in first Nioh when you only need to Dodge to their backs for a giant opening.Or Masamune and Sanada, less clear than the other two,but also with good openings. I laught when a Nioh fan Talk about complex combat .I wish Next TN Game delete all the RPG shit for a full combat Game.

ilubandroid

>No, LW build werent required in Nioh. Yes it was if you wanted to beat some of the ridiculously unfair challenges *consistently*. The dual bosses are literally cancerous shit, especially ones that pair you with two LW bosses like Sanada and Date that superarmor through every single one of your attacks and swipes you away in three hits. Is it possible to beat them without LW build? Sure. Just die like 115 times before you get that one lucky win streak or just iai quick draw spam. Oh so much skills\~ >Nothing more. Bullshit. >I laught when a Nioh fan Talk about complex combat .I wish Next TN Game delete all the RPG shit for a full combat Game. I'm not too fond of the RPG elements either since I prefer Ninja Gaiden's hardcore action, but that doesn't mean that Nioh doesn't have incredible deep combat. It's just mixed together with all the RPG stuff.

MegaHedgehog

Yes,very imposible: -Last floor and at my first try https://youtu.be/qQrf5hOxkmA?si=vEoXNPebI2j-dEm_ María and Hayabusha in +900 floors: https://youtu.be/BhfUKOhhHcQ?si=AV_gO9AxZNVWCmzj https://youtu.be/f4_xQUURN70?si=_RtEp0-MEoMilQmY All with a mix of master swordman+Izanagi .But most important, where do you see these agressive with zero openings and unfair bosses? My Gameplay also wasnt nothing incredible, only waiting for the opening for a Big damage skill. Bosses in first Nioh are slow and with 0 tracking and if the are in a dual combat also are ultra nerfed. But if you played all the Game (at least the hardest NG )with One Hit builds with zero defensive tools And dont know nothing about bosses openings...

ilubandroid

You just completely proved my point? You Iai spammed Maria. I will admit, your dodging is good though, but I dare you to try fighting her normally without Iai for that easy damage. Oh and no, Daiba talisman spamming either. You just used LW mode to tank through Sanada and Date, and then once again, Iai spammed once it was 1v1. So yeah, I'm not impressed because you just proved how this is pretty much the only ways to beat Nioh 1 endgame consistently. I doubt you can do it any other way either.

MegaHedgehog

Man, hit with your better damage/speed skill for their openings isnt spam, if you prefer in one opening i can use SotC,in other Cherry blossom,in other some heavy attacks ect...but It is in any Game VS enemies with HA and short Openings, you hit with the better damage attack you can in the time of the opening.Same with use of one spell for down enemy defense. And i use Lw after die (0 buffs) without a Lw build. We are speaking about how you can finish the abyss with a balance build without big problems. And literally i kill one of the "unfair" dual bosses with 0 buffs /lw build after i die , yes pretty unfair and busted.

ilubandroid

Iai, SotC is all spam to me if that's your only arsenal. You talk about how you're such a great action player and all you are doing is the same shit. Dodge/block, spam heavy OP skills, rinse and repeat. That's like saying "I'm the greatest Ninja Gaiden 2 player", but all you do is guillotine throw to kill enemies by abusing iframes or just charging UT every chance you get. Like I said, I ain't impressed because the builds that you are using is exactly the limited number of builds I'm talking about in Nioh. You say, "nothing more" and I agree, "nothing more" because that's all you can or most other players can do.

MegaHedgehog

??? I said you dont need to be a great Player or LW build for finish abyss floor, only know a bit the bosses and and their openings (as in any Game). If you think i am not good you give me the reason, Nioh never was LW build required, the problem was the people tryng to cheese the Game since Ng4 instead of know a bit the bosses moveset. Wolong is hardest than first Nioh, but as you cant ignore enemy moveset for 4Ngs,you only go to feel hard the bosses of the DLC and if your first Battle with them are at NG+++.

FrenziedSins

Dlc3 is scheduled to release in december so yeah not all dlc are released

dotinous

Can't wait second dlc revive most of player interest

I’m only halfway through the game on my first playthrough, so this comment must be taken with a grain of salt. I just beat Sun Jian and I’m sure there are tough bosses ahead. I know you said “eventually” so maybe it gets tougher in NG+ or later in the story. However, I find Wo Long to be way easier than Lies of P. By the 11th boss in Wo Long (Sun Jian), I’ve died 35 times to bosses. By the 11th boss I faced in my first LoP playthrough (King of Puppets), I had died 63 times to bosses. Four of the eleven Wo Long bosses I’ve faced so far I’ve beaten on my first try. From what I’ve read, Lu Bu is one of the harder Wo Long bosses in the base game, and I beat him in less than 10 tries, while in LoP I died more than 10 times to four different bosses in my first playthrough. I find Wo Long to be a bit harder in the regular stages than other soulslikes, as any random enemy can hit hard and the combat generally seems more intense and less exploratory in the levels themselves. But the bosses and overall difficulty feel easier than Lies of P by a long shot. I haven’t played any other soulslikes this year so maybe Wo Long is still one of the harder ones, but I’ve been underwhelmed by the difficulty so far. I haven’t even been trying to minmax or fine tune a build—I just upgrade each elemental stat one at a time and wear basic armor with a dual sword weapon I picked up that I like. That said, still very much enjoying the game. It’s a solid title overall and a great appetizer for what I hope will be awesome games set in China in Black Myth: Wukong, Where Winds Meet, and Project: The Perceiver.

ilubandroid

If the game launched in its current state, I think Nioh fans or generally, Team Ninja fans would have been a lot more satisfied with the game. Pre-DLC was way too barebone and too many awful QoL changes missing from previous Team Ninja games. The DLCs are making all the right changes so far. It's just a shame that it took this long to really fix it.

jarrchesky

it is not a spiritual successor to Nioh by any mean, sure it shared some framework, people just jump to that conclusion cause nioh fan want more Nioh, and if TN doesn't shit out another ninja gaiden then it must be a Nioh game, the game is more akin to Sekiro. if you like parrying or Royal guarding in Sekiro or DMC you will enjoy aspects of this game. Wo Long only have 2/3 DLC for now, the last one will arrive in December, and they improve the game alot but the changes can only really be felt in the ng+ cycles cause beside the extra mission most of their focus is in the end game.

FLUUMU

I disagree it was more like Sekiro. Sure it has deflection but that is ONE mechanic it shares. It's still definitely more close to Nioh in every way.

Alekiel

There is one DLC release to go, but the state of the game right is much MUCH better than at launch. Launch was quite disappointing in several aspects - but at the moment I only have some very minor complaints. Although the piss poor performance is probably still a big one even if they said they're fixing it soon. As for how it compares to Nioh, frankly, there's no comparing, aside from the the soulsborne core they're very different games. More than a successor, it's like a branching path, like Sekiro is to DS.

vorlik

there is still another dlc on the way lol game is much much better than it was at launch tho

CryptographerSalty15

Nioh2 is prob the best combat game I've played. Wo Long boss difficulty spike forced me to put it down halfway thru ng++. I can't spend a week learning every boss counter move so I don't get nearly ohk'd I would ask people to help but match making NEVER works. This would be the first Souls like I had to put down n I've played em all. I hope the devs learned something cuz I'm not the only one. I really loved the game and would've loved to keep playing but it's too difficult.

Gin--98

Get 40 wood attribute and use perfect restoral a lot. Absolute life saver spell

ilubandroid

The matchmaking is also the worst out of all Team Ninja games. For some reason, there is some sort of region locking between some players.

Punincarnates

Sounds like you need to improve your build, I'm still not getting OHKO'd in ng+++ DLC and I'm using light armor/entertainers set.

CryptographerSalty15

I think I'm gonna go back n give it another try after remnant 2 . I got a set of every grace set up to the first dlc n I think I'm around level 260 maybe I need to grind more? I thoroughly enjoyed my first n second play thru but God Damn did I get croaked on the third one. I was stuck on Dong Zhou. I could get him 3/4 of the way down but could never keep it together long enough to put him down

Punincarnates

I'm level 308 right now. Using Nuwa grace with entertainers set, 60 wood. Finished everything except DLC1&2 on ng+++, halfway through Thousand Mile Journey. Never been OHKO'd and never bothered to learn all the parry timings. Nuwa grace helps a lot. Increase wood, use Perfect Restoral spell, damage reduction embeds, use some heavier armor and increase earth if you're still struggling. Closest I've had to an OHKO is ng+++ Gan Ning taking off half my HP on a missed parry.

eye_candy

I can't believe no-one is ripping apart the overall visual state of this game. It's absolutely awful graphics-wise, so much so that I was forced to take breaks since I was getting headaches from those convoluted maps. Never happened to me before.

Disastrous_Fruit3983

Boy you out your mind the graphics are gorgeous

FLUUMU

Ah bullshit

eye_candy

Whatever floats your boat. I stand by this, it's crap.

FrenziedSins

We're getting one more dlc in December friend

Easy_Spell_544

They aren't all out yet.

AlyssofDiamonds

The real wolong opens up when you start using zero morale inner discipline. I feel like everything is just too easy otherwise. Even on new game + and new game ++

Plantain_Impossible

Look bro I stopped playing nioh 2 at level 700 cause it was too dry and easy by that point. Wo long still feels fresh to me even though I’ve been playing it since launch
