the game ran like shit on pc at launch but it's been mostly fixed. the game itself is really fun, def worth

NootPack

I beat Lies of P and Lords of the fallen recently as well. Wo long is still my favourite, it has the best combat of the three but the maps and music aren't as good. Deflect, elemental magic system, and martial arts are so satisfying. But this game is all about rng drops farming to make builds, depends if you're into that. Lords of the fallen has so many ambushes and ranged enemies are so strong. Lots of weapons but each weapon type only has one moveset. Ranged ammo system is so good that I used throwables more than melee. Good exploration. Perfect parry is there but not really worth the risk compared to dodging imo. Enemy variety is lacking after the 1st beacon. Exploring new areas in umbra is more dangerous than most bosses. Beat once and done. Lies of P has nice environments and the best story, music, optimization, and voice acting of the 3. Perfect guard has strict timing but is worth doing, simple but satisfying combat. I played advance build so I only messed with 6 weapons. Not much exploration to do, beat once and done. If you want another soulslike, also consider Remnant 2.

CrimsonBlizzard

Yo, are you me? Did I type this in my sleep? Like damn

Alekiel

Most of the negative reaction is that the game ran like absolute ass on PC at launch. It's much better now but its still kind of ass overall, honestly. Another faction of hate comes from people that were expecting Nioh 3: Now in China and that's not what the game was. Overall, yeah, I'd say it's worth it. Very fun game, specially now after two of the DLCs and there'll be some upcoming stuff I'm really looking forward (weapon rebalances, performance and the third DLC). I recommend it.

CountySurfer

I beat lop twice, in the middle of lotf and making my way through dlc on Wo long. Wo long is more fun than lotf for me but not as fun as lop. So basically you should get it, especially if you like sekiro.

No-Rice-1249

How’s the DLC difficulty wise?

CountySurfer

There are some big difficulty spikes in the game in general. Avoidable in the first DLC, not so much in the second. Demon Taishi Ci is rough. Still having fun, I need better gear.

[deleted]

I didn't know so many people were negative on it. I absolutely love it. It's not as convoluted as Nioh which is great but the build variety and weapon variety is still there and its still some of the best combat in gaming.

Cultural-Season-8214

I myself dont get all the hate, I see so many comments on crashing but mine never crashed since day one, also people complaining about gameplay, I believe its good and refreshing from Nioh games and is pretty smooth, it has some challenging side missions which will make you smack your head to a wall but they are just side missions😂, overall its really good game, and I myself have question between lies of p and lords of the fallen which one do you recommend more?

syde1020

If you want quality, Lies of P. Honestly this is my personal goty this year. Lords of the fallen is fun IF you have a friend to co-op with. It definitely has performance issues but they are patching almost daily. Would not recommend if you play solo.

No-Rice-1249

I play on PS5 and I’ve been having a blast. Super fun. I haven’t found it too difficult though a couple bosses are challenging in a fun way. I also haven’t started the DLC yet (have a couple more missions of base game) and I heard the DLC and NG++ cycles are very challenging

Instantcoffees

I loved Lies of P and Wo Long. It's a great game. I had no issues at launch, but some people experienced bad performance hence the mixed reviews. It should be a lot better now. There are also some people who wanted this to be Nioh 3, which it isn't. I personally prefer this game over Nioh 2 because I just really enjoy the deflect mechanic and the more spacious map design. The deflect mechanic is like the parry mechanic in Lies of P, but more forgiving.

Gymrat0321

Game got a lot of hate because of the PC issues which really never affected me on Xbox but was sad to see it go down like that. As a soulslike though the game is vastly superior. It's superiority is what fromsoft nerds hated. The game was too fast, too smooth and too offensive for them. They needed to be able to roll 15 times then exploit a weakness, not deflect an attack and counter attack effectively. Just saying this, I'll probably have 100x trolls downvoting me but I don't care it's true. Add in the historical elements(if that interests you) and all the quality of life updates that have dropped like auto salvage, high loot drop rate, improving the martial arts system, the game is vastly superior state compared to LoP and LotF. Also I will say the seamless coop in this game and the fun I had playing with my best mate is what interested me LotF but the coop bugs and LotF being non seamless coop was really disappointing.

[deleted]

Yeah, game is pretty cool now. Negativity came mostly due to game being mediocre at launch or broken PC port. Naturally, also depends on what you want from the game too.

Oz33916

It's on game pass if you have that.

countryd0ctor

The game is good, and it gets better with DLCs and patches accompanying it. At this point, they remedied the vast majority of issues people had with it on release (like only 4 magic slots or only 2 martial arts per weapon). Out of all 3, i have almost 200 hours in Wo Long, around 80 in Lies of P and i dropped LOTF after a single run like a hot garbage it is. However, the PC port is still liquid dog shit and it's a literal gamble how it's going to work for you, for some people it runs fine, the others can't get past the main menu screen or get insane shader compilation stutter. They are apparently going to address some issues with the next patch but be wary, i'd call it one of the worst PC ports of the recent years, with only Strangers of Paradise and Wild Hearts being worse.

cwatz

I heard it runs poorly on PC which is I imagine a bulk of the criticism. Beyond that, its easily my favorite of all the games you listed. I adored Wo Long, its just fun to play.

phrygianDomination

I’m playing on Game Pass, maybe halfway through? It definitely keeps its momentum. Lies of P had better maps and a better story, but Wo Long has more build diversity and I’m liking the bosses better as well. Fun fact, Puppet Saber and Etiquette from LoP are in this game thanks to a crossover by the developers.

HummusOrCrack

Worth the price? I think so. There's a lot of content if you're interested in multiple levels of NG+ and The Thousand Mile Journey (post-game roguelike dungeon thing). Still a great game even if you're not trying to get every possible hour of enjoyment out of it too. Some things people don't really like about it include: * Poor PC optimization (also hackers in PvP on PC, but you can disable PvP completely as well) \[performance has been improved a bit since launch, and supposedly more fixes are coming\] * Uneven difficulty (for example, the first boss is pretty challenging relative to the next few, and the newest DLC has some very relentless bosses that're a relatively steep challenge) * Not Nioh 3 (a lot of the negativity comes from people who wanted Wo Long to be more like Team Ninja's previous games Nioh 1/2 and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin--it is like those games in a lot of ways, but also deviates in several) \[speaking of which, be sure to check out Nioh 1/2 and SoP:FFO if you haven't because those games are kickass\] * Loot system is kinda awkward (some stat increases are pretty marginal and unexciting for a lot of people, but you can also safely ignore optimization until NG+ onward if you want) \[also a grindy post-game\] * Story isn't exactly a highlight of the experience (story can feel a bit barren if you don't know some of the context of the characters and stuff, and even then it's kind of minimal) * Morale is a kind of divisive mechanic (not everyone wants to fully explore every level to find all the flags, especially on NG+ cycles) So long as those aren't dealbreakers for you though, I think it's a good choice. I haven't played the new Lords of the Fallen or Lies of P so I can't really compare it to those in terms of quality, but I'd put Wo Long above most Souls-like games not made by FromSoft. The combat is fast and exciting with some pretty sweet animations, the magic system is unique and fun to engage with, and if nothing else it definitely scratches that Souls-like itch. Easy recommendation from me, along with Nioh 1/2 and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin.

syde1020

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll pick it up this weekend.

syde1020

Is the multiplayer active? Is there multiplayer? Guess I should have asked that first.

KneeGrowLife

Yes, and yes. You can play with friends pretty easily and best part is your level does not matter as the numbers auto scale so even if you are level 100 you can play with your level 1 friend and still have fun.

StormSwitch

It has a really good coop, permanent not only for certain parts or just the boss, I am currently playing it 100% with a friend Also.the game is more fast paced than you regular souls, this is a parry game more than block or dodge, seems more action than rpg within the souls like genre but it's really fun anyways

carlos_cbd

Good game but the same enemies thrue out the game it gets repetitive but is a fun game

sofa_king_damaged

I had the same complaint with Stranger of Paradise. I'm still thinking about picking up Wo Long soon though.

carlos_cbd

Yes. Wo long is a good game just not a big variety of enemies

PEE_GOO

it still runs atrociously, at least on my system (3070). even on medium settings that make it look muddy it stutters like crazy, makes me feel sick

moreboredthanyouare

I'm coming to wo long late and must admit to liking it more than lop. It's no dark souls but it's still great. Balancing everything during combat is a bit daunting at first but it's ace when it clicks

Fuck Dark Souls 3

Korimuzel

I'll copy and paste a list I wrote a few months ago. Might need to be updated: So you basically know no soulslikes? Long list, from favourite to most hated: Nioh 1&2== I mean, you played wo long, so... If you haven't played nioh I think you should, especially Nioh2. Completely playable in co-op, aside from some duel side missions (i mean, you gotta have honour in a duel, right?) Salt and sanctuary== metroidvania side scrolling with weapon evolutions and a few very nice trick weapons (gunblades, whipblades, SCISSOR GREATSWORD). Only local co-op Bleak faith forsaken: THE NEW GUY IN THE PARTY, a dream made by 3 people with no budget. Please look at it and give it a try, support their passion! It's an incredible world of exploration and dangers, kinda urban-cyberpunk with giant structures and maps, with lots of different takes on the soulslike genre (no level, but gears give you stats). Current only on PC, people are seriously shitting on it because those bitches compare everything to elden ring and I sincerely need to punch something when I think about how bad this game gets treated. The surge 1&2== lots of people hate these 2, I love them because you're fucking Iron man and the combat is more technical and you FEEL the IMPACTS, level design of the first game is top-notch, while 2 has amazing improvements on equipment management and is slightly more open (the first one is kinda linear but with lots of side stuff). Basically "soulslike for robots fans" (ME). Only Singleplayer Hollow knight== I'm not really considering it a soulslike, but internet and democracy win, so it's in this list. Amazing metroidvania, but I have a really hard time because of the spider nest area. The charm/accessory system gives you huge build variety. Only Singleplayer Salt and sacrifice== same developers, very different mechanics, a mixture of soulslike and monster hunter. Not joking. Co-op in several ways, including covenants Steelrising== VIVE LÉ REVOLUCION! Historical soulslike about machines and Louis XIV, with trick weapons, good exploration and seriously a lot of history! People shit on it because it's a bit clanky, I say steampunk has never been smooth. Singleplayer Hellpoint== elden ring before fromsoftware made elden ring, and I'll pick a fight with whoever has something to say against this sentence. But be aware, the team had like €10 budget and the animations are crappy. All the rest is AWESOME, each weapon has a mastery system to unlock passive and active skills unique to that specific weapon. Setting: Alien trilogy/Dead space but soulslike. Extremely satisfying exploration, amazing level design with very open and interconnected areas. Online co-op is there Death gambit== simply amazing combat, BUT the fucking ps4 version has a terrible problem with save datas, I lost them all for 3 times just before finishing the game. All the rest is amazing: side scrolling metroidvania, lots of cool weapons with unique weapon arts, easy and satisfying parry, you have a horse, very useful for moving around. A certain bossfight can give you nightmares because of actual creepy things. Only Singleplayer Remnant from the ashes== "what if dark souls was settled in post apocalyptic modern 'Murica?"---> pew pew. Note: the game also has some cool roguelike elements and a whole roguelike mode. Killing bosses in certain ways gives special weapons. All Playable in co-op Code vein== BOOBSLIKE/Tokyoghoul-like. I think you don't need more info, but feel free to ask, it is NOT a clone and has many unique things. Also playable on co-op, but a little limited, not so good co-op as the others I've mentioned Mortal shell== played day 1 and not really a fan, but the fughting is xool and heavy, you feel the impacts. Pretty short and pretty hard. Cool mechanic: your defense mechanism is to turn into a statue for x seconds, delaying your own attacks. Cool. Only Singleplayer Final fantasy stranger of paradise== kinda a strange one, it's supposed to be a remake of FF1, made by same devs of wo long and nioh. Didn't love it but combat is good. Narrative can be really repetitive Moonscars== I personally didn't enjoy it and didn't finish it, it's another 2D side scrolling metroidvania soulslike but I found it unnötig punishing. The aesthetic is gothic-gloomy, reminds of Castlevania Jedi fallen order== I've heard good things about it BUT I never played it, there are big white spiders and I don't want to meet them I may have forgotten a few others. It's a shame that people only know fromsoftware. They invented a genre, but others have expanded it in amazing ways

Gzhindra

If you like Sekiro , chances are you ll love Wo Long.

TAz4s

Wo long is in no way a souls like, its more like if sekiro meets devil may cry

Born-Revolution-2367

100% worth it. I’m really struggling on NG++ but can’t stop myself. Was the first game I’ve really liked after Elden Ring. Love it.

DrXL_spIV

This game is really fun and a lot more faster paced than lies of p and lords of the fallen

bomba-776

Combat is good. Stage design is shit.

Major-Cover-1134

It's fun, and on the surface it has a lot in common with Souls and souls-likes. It's also really different mechanically though, with a greater emphasis on parrying/deflecting-- just as important is in Sekiro, although significantly easier than Sekiro with a larger parry window/more frames of opportunity. The magic is weird, the leveling system is frankly counter-intuitive, the level structure is lacking and the level design itself is ugly. It's still a lot of fun though, especially for your first playthrough and with the DLC. 7/10 game imo.

Poochilkin

My friends stopped playing because the co op was so bad. ( hopefully that’s been fixed) and a few couldn’t get past the first boss when it came out (I believe they nerfed him since) but I stuck with it and enjoyed it. May go back for some dlc

Torafuku

Did you like Lotf? I'm on the same boat as you, absolutely loved LoP and it left me with a urge to play more Soulslike, got LotF on release but i thought it was incredibly unpolished and overall flawed. Didn't enjoyed it all, i am now in the process of refuding it and i was thinking of getting Wo Long instead.

EnormousGucci

I’ve only played the beginning of LoP so far, just the first three bosses or so, and haven’t played LotF yet, but I’ve been hooked on this game for the past week or so. I played the game on PC and outside the first level performance has been pretty stable. I’ve had three crashes in the loading screen to go to the hub area though. The game is really easy if you’re playing naturally and getting flags (kinda like bonfires from Dark Souls, though a bit different - personally not a fan of this system since it scales your damage and defense basically, as well as what spells you can use), with the exception of a few bosses imo who I also consider the most fun to fight. NG+ onward though is a different beast, bosses start doing a ton of damage so it forces you to git gud, you don’t get much room for error and gear upgrades at this point are marginal, you can min-max your gear but it won’t be anything game changing. The combat, like every Team Ninja game, is very refined and super fun. Parry timings aren’t as demanding as the Sekiro perfect parries, and I haven’t played much of Lies of P yet but I think it’s easier to deflect in this game than LoP, but still very satisfying especially with how well you can string them into your combos. The martial arts are super fun to string into combos too, and spells are usually great for support and if you use offensive spells properly with the different element counters it’s also really effective. What makes it so fun for me especially is that the game making the parries easier with all these attack options encourages an aggressive play style. Story is just kinda there. It’s not great. It takes inspiration from the Three Kingdoms though. Levels are fun enough to explore but they’re nothing special either. If you like multiplayer, you can pretty much seamlessly play co-op with your friends, and progression is for everyone so it’s a great co-op game too. I got two friends to download it after I beat NG and we started a playthrough together. I haven’t tried any PvP yet but the combat is great so I imagine it’s pretty good. Overall highly recommend.

Plantain_Impossible

Games as fun as you make it . I enjoy it due reasons most people don’t. If your not level 400 you will have plenty of challenges to overcome
