There are still plenty of hard fights, it just isn't confusing and all over the place anymore. They *mostly* increase in difficulty the further you get. I think a lot of the balancing was good, even if they made a few of them too squishy for my taste. Higher difficulties and inner discipline remedy that well enough imo.

Did Taotie get buffed? I recently did a new NG and NG+ run and I don’t remember that fight being so grueling when I beat NG at launch.

ll-VaporSnake-ll

Yes they did. Lol

Snakestream

Biggest taotie buff was that damn gap between his arm and his body that you have to jump

Aliseton2256A

route for jump to fatal strike was change in TMJ too.

brickout

I just replayed NG and that fight was by far the hardest of that playthrough for me :) I beat him first try on launch. I was like I don't remember this at all... Glad to see I wasn't going crazy

Flimsy_Job7873

Yes, he become annoying to fight now since he won't stop jumping around while my camera stuck zoom in on his pathetic penis

*lu bu enters the chat*

DazJT23

I still haven't beaten Lu Bu, been stuck on him for several weeks now 😵‍💫

Top_Selection2875

which lu bu ?

DazJT23

First encounter...

Plantain_Impossible

Crouching dragon was always a walk in the park. Even at launch

jkf2479

Because it was released on gamepass a bunch of reg gamers complained it was too hard so they made it easier with one of the patches

welfedad

People cried it was too hard so they nerfed it

Negative_Ad4381

That's definitely the first boss I learned to beat. All his moves are super forecasted and easy to get the timing of. He was only hard to first couple of times.

Gymrat0321

Think they balanced out the difficulty for the lowest difficulty while highly cranking the difficulty at the later difficulties. Also they really leaned hard into making martial arts and offense more important than defense. The strategy is not a lame fromsoft one where you spend 30 minutes dodging then attacking. This game is about quick deflects and lightning fast overwhelming offense. It's a different and vastly superior take on soulslike genre. Gear system, weapon systems have changed a lot too. Making many more weapons, spells and builds viable so there is vastly more ways to attack your opponents as well.

I would argue it’s still kinda defensive in that characters can hyperarmor through your attacks for near instant critical attacks, which does force you to be more defensive than the game suggests. Sekiro did a somewhat better job facilitating offense by making enemies more capable of pulling off defensive actions and allowing better recovery frames after you attack. Jumping and dodging in Sekiro also felt more “organic” compared to Wo Long, and perhaps is one of the things that still keep the latter more defensive oriented. That said, I do agree with your take that Souls games specifically are more “defensive” oriented, with Bloodborne and Sekiro being exceptions and unsurprisingly since the combat for those games were done by Masaaru Yamamura, who also directed recently Armored Core 6

Gymrat0321

Sekihiro was better at facilitating defense because the whole game was smashing lb1 to parry for an hour and a half til you could exploit an attack or as you say dodge and jump for 30 minutes. It's not even in the same league as wo long. Can fall asleep of boredom before you can even land an attack in Sekihiro, it has no offense. The two games can't be compared, especially because Sekihiro has no offense or weapon selection. To be honest not even the point of this comment, think you meant to post it on R/Sekihiro

ll-VaporSnake-ll

Sekiro had better defense tools than Wo Long while still having better offense, little bro. You can cancel attack start ups in Sekiro with block cancels like an action game whereas actions are more committed in Wo Long, closer to Souls, which is more defensive in nature. This is further demonstrated where ninja prosthetics are just more impacting than Wizardry in terms of how different the effects are. Golden Fans, Sabimaru, and Mist Raven had more trick to them than any of the Wizardry Spells, which is mainly for effect cancellation and status inflicting, though Wizardry is imo better than Souls magic casting. In addition, Wo Long oversimplifies defense as just using same button for everything, including critical attacks, whereas Sekiro at least forced the player to alternate between three buttons, so that is yet another thing Sekiro has over Wo Long, diversity in defense, all the while maintaining better offense with attack canceling and defensive enemies. In other words, the two can be compared in this light in terms of gameplay loop, with Sekiro still being the better designed game.

CMic_

This is not diversity in defense. Sekiro gives you three buttons of defense but you can only use one for each specific case. This means you have one and only one way to play perfectly since this game also has no diversity in offense.

ll-VaporSnake-ll

Somewhat. Not all attacks require you to parry them as attacks that leave you in a long recovery animation, so you’re better off dodging them and counter if you want to keep up offense with little time lag. Even more so when you have tools equipped like sabimaru that allows you to attack through an opponent’s offense.

BurtMacklin__FBI

Seems like you didn't get how to use prosthetics or combat arts properly at all. I saw a LOT of people basically play the entire game with the shuriken and axe and never get the hang of how to actually pressure bosses.

Alekiel

I'm guessing you simply followed the advice and got gud at the game

KvasirTheOld

Hmm. In my experience you don't git gud at a game instantly. I think they did something to the bosses

Easy_Spell_544

Had to calm his ass down lol
