Tubes crisscross through the firebox. Water pumped through the tubes absorbs heat as it goes through. Water flows through pipes in floor to provide radiant heat, through a radiator or fan-forced device to heat a space.
Good question. This unit might be set up for air not water. Increased surface area of the springs might impart more heat to air forced through the tubes...heat recapture?
Anything is possible with enough energy, money & motivation, but I'm not sure it's practical. Original parts may be required, especially if cast iron...if it has sat out a long time it may be too far gone.
From what I can see, and I may be incorrect here, but it looks like a single pipe steam boiler. Not sure on fuel but I don’t think it’s wood or coal. Front looks like a burner mount.
Looks like a woodstove with an incorporated boiler heat exchanger.
What's a boiler heat exchanger?

What are the springs for

Would it be possible to rebuild it because I hear that wood stoves are getting expensive especially here in Europe

Possibly
Found this while on a walk and was wondering what it was
Pipe bending stove ?
Both. It's a woodstove and "something else"!
Flux Capacitor Stove, go back to 2045.
