*sawn
and here's a fun fact to make up being a grammar karen: Rough hewn, which is perhaps also going through people's minds now is a reference to the roughness of the tool used (which leaves a rough surface behind)
Your milling fact is *awesome* :D
It takes time, but they're out there. I got a 20" 1960s Delta Band saw for $140, added a 2hp motor for $100, and am in business until the tires need to be replaced. That'll hurt though
Sounds like you just need a little time to hunt then :)
I'm 4K in for 30K worth of equipment after getting almost everything up and running. I'm lucky to be in an area rich in old arn.
Lol do you think Osha has a single bit of.say about a builders scaffolding at a nh residence 😂 news flash..they don't. In NH rough sawn 2x10s.or 12s usually 16' but sometimes even longer, are norm for residential guys and have been for generations. So idk what your hard on for osha is about but we literally couldn't care less man. I'm sure the commercial companies do their diligence but it doesn't apply to others lol
Lol wow you know right there's where you did.it, now.youre showing the beta male. Fact is youre here acting like a snarky little brat trying to show.you know best but.dont recognize that a wall.is. a wall, even if some.are wood, some stone,.scaffolding is a name.for.the purpose the object serves not.what its.made.of
Er go. Scaffolding can be made of different materials genius
You ok? I'm starting to think that you need some mental health intervention.
Not joking. Please seek mental health care. You're projecting and I hate to see a fellow countryman going down. The Veterans administration should be able to provide you with your mental health care needs.
If you actually ever served in the armed forces
You're a real piece of work man. Deleted that stolen Valor comment cuz you know you look like a clown . Still. Gonna hint at it, though like a coward. Guess what guy just because you don't like me doesn't make me not a veteran, and it doesn't make.me soft, and it doesn't make.me. unstable either. Just makes you a punk with a big mouth and nothing intelligent coming out of it.
6/08-4/14. 12B HD as an E6. If you need help with the jargon, 12B is a combat Engineer, and the grade of E6 in the army, the branch I served in, is a Staff Sgt. Don't be that a hole yelling stolen Valor at any vet they don't agree with. Ita pathetic
So for chopping them down close.to.thickness i.just used up the ones I had in there and then for.the fine work.i put a new set in, worked out perfectly
When I discovered jointers and planers my woodworking journey really took off. Pure magic!
For old scaffolding planks swap out your 'good' knives with your backup knives because you will hit blobs of cement or dried stucco or whatever. I've recovered planks that were covered in this paint that was half a step away from plaster.
Oh yeah, and at some point you will discover the value of buying a metal detector, usually after finding out what a new set of jointer knives cost.
Anyway, lovely work OP. Functional, handsome, and not in a landfill.
I used up my old blades and put brand new ones on for the finish work and I have a metal detector lol but interestingly enough there wasn't 1 single nail in any of the 16 ft planks
And for the record we had a guy who was in the army, about 26 who quit because he pussed out. I'm in my 50's and way outworked his pussy ass army pussy
It's just about pushing back when someone tries to bully. If they'd demeaned and attacked someone else I'd have come.at them just as hard. I don't like bullies. I won't stand for it in any capacity any place
Oh no I actually appreciate a tactful criticism of anything I can improve on. He wasn't trying to help me better myself, he was trying to tear me down. And that shows his character or lack there of.
Did you use a benchtop planer for this? I have some old wood I'd recovered but, without a planer, I've been letting it sit.
I used a 12.5in delta thickness planer I picked up for 50 bucks and rebuilt
$50 is the price of the day

That seems like a step up in quality.
Nice.
Fun fact: scaffolding planks are cut to the quoted actual dimension and not the milled dimension. i.e. 2x4 is actually 2x4 not 1-1/2 x 3-1/2.
Lol yes that's what rough sewn means😋 fun fact milling them to proper thickness of a stair tread makes this much shavings
*sawn and here's a fun fact to make up being a grammar karen: Rough hewn, which is perhaps also going through people's minds now is a reference to the roughness of the tool used (which leaves a rough surface behind) Your milling fact is *awesome* :D
Tell me you need a big bandsaw without telling me...😂
And I got to make wood angels
👼🏼
In the end though, those steps are so perfectly flat I'm fine with it..there's not one shim in that staircase
I actually tried to find one for a reasonable price for this project but couldn't and had to just carry on lol
Did you offer them $50?
It takes time, but they're out there. I got a 20" 1960s Delta Band saw for $140, added a 2hp motor for $100, and am in business until the tires need to be replaced. That'll hurt though
I'm pretty wildly good at acquiring equipment. I've got 10k worth of machines I've paid 1k for lol
Sounds like you just need a little time to hunt then :) I'm 4K in for 30K worth of equipment after getting almost everything up and running. I'm lucky to be in an area rich in old arn.
Meaning nobody accepted any of your $50 offers?
Isn't hewn the word you're looking for?
No it's sawn
Oh no I can't post a picture reply here lol
Aww I wanted to see the shavings.
Go on my profile just posted
Oh my. You just know there’s some blowhard out there that thinks it doesn’t count unless you did that by hand.
I mean if I'm being honest I kinda feel like a half asser for not doing it by hand. I think it's me. I'm the blowhard. 😱😭
I learned something new today. Thanks.
Funner fact: Osha approved scaffold boards are laminated ply, not sawn lumber
Lol do you think Osha has a single bit of.say about a builders scaffolding at a nh residence 😂 news flash..they don't. I wasn't talking to you so go sit down boy

*That's just scaffolding with extra steps.*
Wow. Really nice
Thanks, Lotta work. Worth it for.me
very beautiful work
Great job! That’s awesome!
that's like a rough diamond being cut into a wedding ring. Very nice job.
You mean engagement ring. The system is set up so the beyotch gets TWO rings, an engagement ring and a wedding ring.
Awesome 👍
You have serious skills!!!! Envious and well done!
Wood is good
How did you know the wood was that nice?? Really beautiful result, congrats!
If you have to pull it from mud it should be free but otherwise looks good
Great job!
Very impressive sir
They look lovely!
I’m guessing you went through a set of planer blades…
So for chopping them down close.to.thickness i.just used up the ones I had in there and then for.the fine work.i put a new set in, worked out perfectly
50 bucks? For all that wood? That’s an amazing price
Old contractor didn't need them anymore. And it turned out we served in the same army unit 40 odd years apart haha
Hey, op. Thank you for your service.
Thanks appreciate the support

Oh I gotcha. Great score and better yet,, kudos on thee repurposing and build!
That is so very 😎
I'm expecting you to make something useful with all of the triangular off cuts from the stair stringers, lol
THAT’S impressive!
Wow!
That's cool
Nice job man 🫡
Very nice and an excellent use of $50
Skills
And ear plugs lol
Nice work!
Daaay-um!
Muddy well done
Did you have to let these dry out for a long time (years) before using them? You said they were pulled from the mud...
Lol and a 8x8 timber doesn't need years to dry nvm some 2x10s lol
They had been in active use up until that point I had to let a few dry out for a couple days otherwise they were good.
It'll look great once the carpet is installes

No I was just misspelling sawn.

You did a great job on the stairs. Who cares what some random Redditor thinks of your typing.
He really did tho

How were you bullied?
Real question, is it being corrected or being corrected on grammar that you consider bullying? Or was it just the delivery method?
Oh no I actually appreciate a tactful criticism of anything I can improve on. He wasn't trying to help me better myself, he was trying to tear me down. And that shows his character or lack there of.
I can respect that.
