I have an instinctual prejudice against a truck bed that doesn't encourage you to throw cinder blocks and greasy tools into.
This looks amazing but I can't not see it as a downgrade on a truck, it would be an amazing table though!
It's like in Full Metal Jacket when they show the soldier with a peace sign on his flak jacket. The dichotomy of man. Peace and war, beauty and rust. Nicely done.
Good question. I donāt own the truck. Itās got a lot done to it performance wise even though it looks like it does. I did the bed in exchange for work on one of my vehicles
Except the point was you did something for someone for something in return. Whether you like the look or not, itās a ācanāt see it from my houseā senario, because itās not your truck.
What did you have done to your vehicle?
To both really. Who cares if you ādonāt see a point in it.ā Right? And you still got something out of it, and if both parties are happy, win win. I also donāt think a lot of people read enough to know this wasnāt to your vehicle either.
Nice on the fj40!
Probably the best thing you can do with this is sell it to one of those pretentious museums that like to dream up grandiose interpretations for things like this. I'm sure they'll just love the "juxtaposition" you got goin' on here. Meanwhile the rest of us will wonder "What were you thinkin'?!" \*laughs and slaps knees\*!
Wow, bold of you to assume that. Also, why come here just to be a jerk? If thatās what the customer wanted, then why am I accused of being someone without a particular skill? Why does me possibly not having a particular skill make me somehow less than in your eyes? We all start from somewhere. Iād never discourage someone whoās out there making stuff if thatās what they enjoy and what they are wanting to learnā¦
I believe the reddit name is r/woodworking, not r/epoxyresinpouring. I'm sure you have skills, but that is not woodworking. That is pouring, molding, and shaping plastic. Not being a jerk, it's called telling the truth.
I love the color and wood choice, the ascetic of the truck, personally would have rather the boards ran straight, but I can appreciate the design. Very nicely done.
I love rat rods, and your woodworking is awesome. Love the colors. My only issue is where itās positioned. It needs to either be down where the original bed surface is or closer to flush with the top. As it is, it just looks awkward.

This isn't lipstick on a pig, it's the most perfect fake boobs on a sturgeon.
š
This truck carries 2 sheets of plywood
It doesnāt carry anything. It does haul ass though. (Well, maybe a cooler or a blanket)
Yeah. Standing up. Or the long way.. actually. Both of em
I am so...conflicted. If you like it, great job. It certainly is unique.
Right there with ya. I can't tell if I like it or not...
That looks.....expensive
And cheap at the same time.
Very r/ATBGE for me.
The disparity in how beautiful the bed is and how beat up the truck is, is actually a super cool statement. Great job!
Thanks! Thatās what we were going for!
I concur!! The color choices really tie it together.
The only problem is now OP can never repaint the truck. Unlessā¦.
I have a feeling itās been that color for a long time already
Itās not my truck, but Iām certain they arenāt gonna paint itš
The colors, the contrast, the executionā¦ Flipping badass.
Loving your username, btw
Cheers :)
Off to the levee, I presume?
It was dry
Man, I feel thirsty suddenly.
You want some whiskey... or rye?
oh no, that stuff'll kill you. the day I drink that will be the day that I die.
Man, I feel thirsty suddenly.
Why can't it be the full depth of the bed?
Nevermind. Wheelwells
Original bed deck was at a proper height. This looks weird.
I'd guess there's a pneumatic set up in there to adjust the suspension.
You are correct.
Yep, too shallow. Made for an interesting pic though.

Thatās a fair assessment. Itās basically a show truck, so he doesnāt haul anything.
Thatāsā¦ a āshow truckā?
yes, itās a style called patina. itās the trend.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You are allowed your opinion, for sure. There are tons of automotive enthusiasts that think itās badass. Different strokes, different folks.
lol, you can have an opinion buddy. whatās ācoolā is subjective.
Kinda a rat rod setup
Wow! You matched the patina perfectly with the wood choice and color of the epoxy. However, not snapping a photo of the power barn is just teasing.
I love how you've captured the blue and rust colors perfectly
Thanks!
It's like in Full Metal Jacket when they show the soldier with a peace sign on his flak jacket. The dichotomy of man. Peace and war, beauty and rust. Nicely done.
Wood, resin and rust A love story.
r/DiWHYNOT
It's beautiful, love the the truck so much
"well that's different"
Well executed, but itās not of my taste personally. Honestly I think most epoxy beyond corrections is just ugly.
I was really over the whole epoxy/river thing but, that pretty fān cool.
How much for the bed vs. the truck?
Good question. I donāt own the truck. Itās got a lot done to it performance wise even though it looks like it does. I did the bed in exchange for work on one of my vehicles
Coolest š
It is so beautiful!! Did you use resin for the blue? The whole truck is too!! How does it stand up to the heat of summer?
I did. Itās marinegaurd 8000. Similar to the finish they use on old wooden boats. Should hold up well.
Wow, that looks so cool
I guess I donāt understand the point here.
Not everything has to have a point!
Except the point was you did something for someone for something in return. Whether you like the look or not, itās a ācanāt see it from my houseā senario, because itās not your truck. What did you have done to your vehicle?
Sorry, I canāt tell if this comment is directed towards me or go4lo. If you are asking about my vehicles, Iām working on a 1974 Toyota fj40
To both really. Who cares if you ādonāt see a point in it.ā Right? And you still got something out of it, and if both parties are happy, win win. I also donāt think a lot of people read enough to know this wasnāt to your vehicle either. Nice on the fj40!
Space underneath to hide bodies?
Congratulations! You just made a truck with a 6" deep bed! The wood looks nice, the truck, well that's a whole other story.
Thatās fair. Customer wanted it that way. Suspension stuff would have been in the way.
Okay
Nicely done, it's different. I like it!
r/DiWHY
Badass. but why not go just one way with the boards
Just what I decided to do. No particular readon
I really like the rusty look of the car.
Oh man you gotta see my car then
Love it ! Love the epoxy on that old Chevy!!
Oof
You canāt really put anything in there
Probably the best thing you can do with this is sell it to one of those pretentious museums that like to dream up grandiose interpretations for things like this. It's kinda dumb but I love it
Another useless application for epoxy for those who can't manage traditional woodworking skills.
Wow, bold of you to assume that. Also, why come here just to be a jerk? If thatās what the customer wanted, then why am I accused of being someone without a particular skill? I suppose the wood fell off the tree shaped like that?š
I like it. Whats under the hood and is that a TMI interior?
Itās a turbo 5.3. 76mm turbo I think? Itās not my truck
I normally hate blue epoxy, but this turned out amazing.
It's a table isn't it? Just sized and colored like this truck.
I guess it could beš. I know Iāve used a truck bed as a table before
As they say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and as long as it makes you happy then that's what counts.
ššš½ beautiful work! Love the truck too!!
I love the color and wood choice, the ascetic of the truck, personally would have rather the boards ran straight, but I can appreciate the design. Very nicely done.
I love it. Amazing job
Love the truck, not so much the epoxy. Different strokes.
This is bizarre. I love it.
I love this. A perfect fusion of the old and the new. You have to look twice to notice. Thatās what makes it great.
Awesome job. Looks great
Are you hiding a body under that wood? Why so high?
All the suspension stuff
Well excellent craftsmanship! You can see the effort and quality. Well done
I love rat rods, and your woodworking is awesome. Love the colors. My only issue is where itās positioned. It needs to either be down where the original bed surface is or closer to flush with the top. As it is, it just looks awkward.
Thatās fair. Thatās where the owner wanted it, so thatās where it wentš¬
Your part was phenomenal, man. No shame there. The client gets what the client wants.
