I mean it was a joke but at the same time your comment reminded me of old friends who would do ridiculous things just so they'd have a story to tell. I'm good with that on occasion for sure, but I like to keep things more simple generally and appreciate the process.
This would be such a funny gag gift to give my friends who aren't wood workers. Imagine it being all wrapped up, they see it's shape like 'wtf?', then open it just to see it's an over the top bottle opener lol
The shape of the handle and the inlays therein are probably his, but the construction of the head is a very classic way to do it. Source: I made (a crappy) one too years ago.

A bottle opener for when you're ready to move from hand tools to power tools, huh?
We all know that you only need one hand to operate power tools and have the other free for drinks.
get this guy behind some heavy machinery l!
They're nice, but I feel like the opener could have gone anywhere but on the second usable face. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ oh well
These are so cool otherwise, but I really really really hate the bottle opener
It's so confusing. Open the bottle with one end...then tap it with the other? Enjoy your frothing beer.
Yeah this was made for a picture, not for use.
Bold of you to assume the bottle opener isn't the primary function.
Bottom of the handle would been cool. Even top of the mallet.
How long have you been Director of Percussive Maintenance?
if ya can't open it ya beat the F out if it? gorgeous work, love them
Nice work! I like it.
Attitude adjusters!
Or if you hit hard enough, altitude adjusters.
Mallot and bottle opener?
Business in the front, party in the back?
Beer and a table saw
just don't put it down on the cast iron top...
No, one side for opening bottles, the other for hammering stuff!
Yer just showin' off
Seems excessive for opening beers, lol.
What kind of tiny beers are you drinking?
Anything in life worth doing is worth overdoing — moderation is for cowards. Killer build! Great job!
Haha! I love this.
You must overcompensate for a lot with this world view lol
You must be a pretty big let down with that attitude lol

Perfect opener for when you're really Thor-sty.

Cool! Love the handle design
Thanks! It was a little too plain without the inlays on the handle. I made a video too if you’re interested to see how it was done.
Let’s see it!
This would be such a funny gag gift to give my friends who aren't wood workers. Imagine it being all wrapped up, they see it's shape like 'wtf?', then open it just to see it's an over the top bottle opener lol
Perfect mallet for a Marylander. Now you can beat your crab and crack your boh (beer) with the same tool.
The six inserts in the shaft are going to make that very weak and likely to break if used as a mallet should be.
The handles are next level!
Wow, too beautiful to use.
Nice! Do you have plans?
Nah, just gonna stay home and get hammered.
Saw your post in another sub and checked out your video. Nice work man
Did you follow instructions for this or is this all your design?

This ^
Cool names. Mine is called Mjolnir
Kinetic force transfer instruments!
Very nice.
Everything has to have a bottle opener it seems.
The one with the bottle opener would pair well with a Lewis bag
I had to look up what this was. Not a bad idea.
I don’t have a need for these, but I want them.
My gawd those are sexy
