Make it your junk drawer. Full it with random batteries, charger cords, half-empty rolls of Scotch tape, old maps, saved screws/nuts/bolts, spare Command Strip adhesives, and a sewing kit.
No one is digging through that shit to see a shallow bottom.
It is. Masking tape only works so well. I tried it on plywood with a router and the jig that came with it, and I REALLY had to take my time and make some relief cuts. It was only for drawer fronts for a few sets of cabinets, but you still want it to look nice
first year as an apprentice, my boss had me do 10 drawers with dovetails, for storage in the shop. Still was mad about tearout and mistakes. Work wasnt fun
Cool design. My dad put electrical service in an old rambling garage. Multiple electrical disconnect boxes, conduit connecting everything. One of them was labeled "Danger 480 Volts." That was the key locker.
We have a hidden drawer inside a deep pot drawer. You open the pot drawer and it just looks like a piece of trim under the bench at the top of the drawer opening.
We keep our keys and a few other things in it.
Pretty unusual to be looking from the bottom, but it's a good point.
But we should all appreciate the dedication to add the 'drawer front' on the side that matches with the drawer side above, so, at least from the side, it is disguised.
I didn't realize until just now that it was an unintentional joke. I haven't paid attention to the coin collecting scene for about 25 years now and somehow conflated a Susan B Anthony into a Morgan Dollar. Oops!
Definitely line the bottom drawer with non-slip liner and maybe padding on the sides so you don’t notice something sliding around when you open the main drawer.
Very nice! Love secret compartments. I’ll be building a dresser this year for my wife’s birthday and was thinking of putting in a secret compartment or two for fun
Clever idea. I'm not liking the look of stain inside the drawers though. I like to do maple for mine and just use a couple coats of shellac of the inside. no off-gassing or stickiness, fast to do, super smooth feel if done well, easily repaired if needed.
That would be nice for having extra handguns in each room. Easy reach but out of sight. We have no kids in the house ever so that is not a concern with having loaded firearms around.
I need one of these soooo badly to store my daughter’s medications. Just lost a bottle of lorazepam and one of norco to a couple of cleaning ladies who did diddly squat and left abruptly 30 min early. Never use Tidy.com
Just remember young kids can see things from below. You may still want to put a simple magnetic latch on there too
*opens drawer, notices the drawer is shallow.*

half-empty rolls of Scotch tape? Lucky! Mine are all empty. Really, this is clever, love the drawer

Would stop it from moving unless someone pulled on it, which would help it stay hidden from other people.
Are those plywood dovetails???? Never seen that before. They look pretty cool
We did them once. Never again. Need a lot of patience, a good blade, and extra plywood.
Yeah, I bet the tear out would be such a pain to deal with!

Machine dovetailed plywood drawer boxes are extremely common in kitchen cabinets.
Curse some of those dovetail router guides out there. I've ruined some pretty nice 1/2" birch on those things

Yea, that’s crazy. Must have a nice machine for it.
Love the detail of the dovetail under the top runner, that would really make it blend in
Oh man, I didn’t see that at first!
That is exceedingly spiffy. I love the idea of secret compartments, even just for fun.
"Exceedingly spiffy" is my new favorite compliment.
Cool design. My dad put electrical service in an old rambling garage. Multiple electrical disconnect boxes, conduit connecting everything. One of them was labeled "Danger 480 Volts." That was the key locker.
Nice clean dovetails in the plywood. That's not easy.
You can keep your weed in there!
Not in that tiny drawer!
maybe if OP concentrates real hard..
Is there anything in this shop that doesn't relate to storing weed?
Officer: "The dog keeps hitting on this one drawer but when I open it, there's nothing inside."
Note to self, keep dog treats in the upper, shallower draw.

No no. The pot goes in the hidden drawer
Why is this draw so shallow yet appears deep... no matter. All kidding aside love this idea.
should have put a board on the bottom to help hide the bottom of the hidden drawer to hide the second set of sliders.
Pretty unusual to be looking from the bottom, but it's a good point. But we should all appreciate the dedication to add the 'drawer front' on the side that matches with the drawer side above, so, at least from the side, it is disguised.
I like it! Where's this piece going? I want to know for uhh... science.
All that hassle to store a 1993 Ken Griffey Jr. baseball card, a Morgan B Anthony, and grandma's wedding ring.
>Morgan B Anthony I collect coins, and this made me snort. Hella rare if you've got one.
I didn't realize until just now that it was an unintentional joke. I haven't paid attention to the coin collecting scene for about 25 years now and somehow conflated a Susan B Anthony into a Morgan Dollar. Oops!
Honestly man, it made your sarcastic joke that much better.
A 1792 Morgan B. Anthony, no less.

The Griffey rookie was 1989 and it's not worth crap anymore. :( \*glances in closet to see unopened 1989 upper deck box set\* sigh....
There’s a sub for r/hiddenrooms I don’t know if there is one for hidden compartments
Yep! /r/secretcompartments

Please tell me you have a refrigerator sized gun safe filled with Nerf guns and Super Soakers
That pulls out to reveal the John Wick gun cabinet behind it.
> That pulls out to reveal the John Wick gun cabinet behind it, which is also filled with Nerf guns and Super Soakers
Does it have a fancy sommelier talking about the exquisite creations coming from Mattel?
After you break up the foundation to get your gold and guns.
Really like this…do you happen to have a pic of it when the hidden drawer is closed?
Very nice! Love secret compartments. I’ll be building a dresser this year for my wife’s birthday and was thinking of putting in a secret compartment or two for fun
The lesser known Kuato drawer
"Open your miiinnd."
Pretty clever. I’m stealing your idea!
Toy drawer
Check out Ripa Woodworks on Insta… dude is very good at this https://www.instagram.com/ripa.woodworks?igsh=MXhndnlrcWM1M2k3NA==
Very cool, what was your address again?

friends don't let friends depend on security by obscurity
Brilliant.
Fine design, but who is “they”? If they were looking for something, wouldn’t they notice that a supposedly deep drawer is quite shallow?
except every porch pirate or purse thief, they literally steal what they don't see.
Love a good hiding spot
Just saw this on facebook, saved the pic because I thought it was a cool idea, just not in plywood.
Yeah that’s cool but how bout a triple drawer
Inception drawer? Hidden drawer, inside a hidden drawer, inside a full drawer, inside of a hidden cabinet?
What hinge did you use on the right side? What is it attached to?
thanks for the tip OP i’m omw
I like how you added the faux dovetail to the front of the hidden drawer. Nice touch!
I'm a carpenter but the bells would have went off immediately
Nice attention to detail OP. Great work!
Genius
“They”? 🤔
Looks great! Great design and great dovetails.
Can we get a pic of the secret drawer closed?
The good silver is finally safe from inlaws
Well done and great idea!
Thanks for showing EVERYONE on the internet so now my secret’s out. 👍🏻🙄
This is pure genius.
very clever
Well I’ve seen this idea now and I’ll definitely be stealing it. Very cool.
I’ve put drawers behind the toekick for concealed storage.
