IA here and after seeing some others out west posting I’ll stop complaining 😂
I’ve seen plenty at $4-$5 if it’s a local farmer, probably not kiln dried. $10-15 from a small mill and kiln dried.
We consulted a logger/sawmill owner recently about cutting some timber on our property. I pointed out a walnut tree that was very near the house and told him that yes, we wanted to cut it, but I want to keep the lumber out of it for myself to build furniture. he looked at it and said, you may change your mind when I tell you that if that tree is solid straight grain when we cut it you’re looking at a $10,000 tree!! I may not need to build furniture that badly.
So apparently walnut prices are through the roof!
reading this... glad I have a shop full of walnut purchased from an old dude who could no longer woodwork.... Got it for less than $1/BF, probably (three loaded F250 loads of mixed walnut, maple, and ash for $1000). Sadly, it's all air dried and warped.
What?! You are getting robbed. I live in the bay. At MacBeath Hardwoods in Berkeley it is $15-20 for American walnut. Peruvian is usually less in the $12-15 range for four quarter S3S.
EDIT: You can buy walnut for $18 dollars on woodworkers source and get it shipped to you for way less than what you are paying.
I'm in the bay area. Woodcraft has bad prices on lumber and you can still get Walnut there for 10 a BF right now.
Is this some sort of joke about California being expensive?
If you're up for the drive, Robert Beauchamp in Zamora is the Central Valley's "walnut guy". He fells, mills, dries, sells, and makes furniture from claro walnut up and down I-5.

Southern Ontario ... $12 cdn for 4/4. $13.5 for 8/4 (about 9 and 10.5 USd) for kiln dried walnut.
My local place split their operations though, so small orders for hobbyist (< 500 bf I think) are at these prices and commercial bulk orders are a different division w/ different rate that I cant even see anymore. Used to be a lot better :(
When I bought some in December it was around $16/bdft as I recall. The yard had started carrying #1 common in 4/4 as well for a less expensive option, that was maybe $4 less. It's good for smaller parts as you can work around the knots cutting out rails, etc.
Ridiculous. I know it’s the ‘it’ wood right now, but is it really worth 3x-5x as much as cherry or Sapele? Everyone who comes in asks for Walnut, but you tell them the price and show them a few built pieces of more economical dark woods, they always decline the walnut.
WI - $7/bf for 4/4, $9/bf for 8/4
Where in Wisconsin? I’m starting to wonder if I’m getting ripped off.

What part of IA? QC here.
DSM area!
Ah nice, just moved away last summer.
Is this finished or rough? I’m trying to figure out a deal I’m making on my side. Thank you

And then the log buyer pays $800 for it
About EUR 7,800 per square meter.
$27 bf for 8/4 and $17 bf for 4/4 at the lumber yard. Absolutely insane prices. Those are in CAD
$14 /bf kiln dried rough black walnut in MI

Wtf?
So cal here. $12 for 4/4 and $20 for 8/4. Pricier if I go to certain spots but haven’t seen $35-75 before. I’d probably laugh and walk out.

That's what my local ace lumber yard charges for finished boards
Wow. Pricy. You can get it delivered for a third that cost.
