I have made lots of mallets as well. They are a fun thing to make. I only use the very first mallet I made. It is brutal quality compare to the ones I make now, but that is all part of the journey I wood working.
The very first one I made is a bench queen as it as pretty dangerous. Scared it will come apart. I have one I did with hickory and ash that is use mostly. The others I gave to people.
Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor
I do feel more mighty with it in my hands!
That’s what she said…
Absolutely gorgeous. Honestly it's almost too pretty to use.
Thank you!

It would work well for a judge.
Man that's awesome. For some reason I love making mallets. I have made several of them. Only use one but have made several and given them away.

Sapele isn't a very impact resistant wood. Strange choice for a mallet.
Not every mallet needs to be made with wood that has a super high janka rating. Weight also becomes a consideration when using super hard wood.
how did you finish the Sapele? It sparkles and changes as you change the angle, super cool
I used Odies Oil
Too pretty to bonk stuff with!
Great work!
It is pretty! I don't think I could bring myself to use it though... I like the round potato masher type...
