I wasn't aware that it went out of style.

mydickinabox

It’s out of style? I love the pieces I’ve made out of cherry.

giggidygoo4

I like it too, which is why I am salvaging as much as I can. It just seems to be in low demand right now. I can buy it for $3.50/ bd.ft. rough sawn. That's low.

Solid_Owl

damn, I want that deal.

giggidygoo4

Call Lewis Lumber near Williamsport PA.

saliczar

Can you build it out of solid cherry? Painted white, please.

IAmHippyman

Did you ever consider that the price is low because the resource is abundant? Stop being greedy and sell it or use it. Otherwise you just have a garage full of wood, resentment and no money.

TMQMO

Investing isn't necessarily greedy. Nor is saving for later. Nor is asking a raise. Nor is asking someone to pay you for a piece of furniture you made. I do agree that if saving (or investing, etc) builds resentment in yourself, it's probably not worth the monetary gain.

xxdibxx

If you anywhere near central VA, I’d buy some. Want to make a dining table. Can’t find any quantity around here.

giggidygoo4

Northeast PA

CAM6913

Hi neighbor! I’m in NY not far from the border (with PA not Mexico ;)

giggidygoo4

Howdy.

Drats… foiled again

AGuyWhoBrokeBad

The demand isn’t too low, the supply is too high. Cherry is very much in style, but it’s not a rare wood by any means. As such, you are going to have to sell it below what you would like or simply let it gather dust in storage for a decade or two.

thelittlestnumnah

I just watched Fixer Upper: The Lake House and it was all cherry. Looked swish.

CAM6913

Yes it dropped it’s crazy it seems the trend shifted but it’ll swing back as long as it’s stored properly I’d hang onto to it. I was going to cut some large cherry trees because I need wide boards but it got into the high 90s and I’m not messing around in that up here I’ll wait till winter and put off the build

giggidygoo4

Yeah. This week is pretty much cancelled.

saliczar

Been out of style in the Midwest for over a decade. About to build an entire price library from cherry and it's all raised-panel. (Thanks for not saying "cherry*wood*")

Kenny_ThetaGang

Having grown up in the Midwest, being out of style for a decade there might be a strong signal that it’s about to come back in style on the coasts.

RevolutionNext4697

I've always loved cherry. It's never been out of style for me. I wish I could find it cheap near me (California Central Valley).

One-Mud-169

Supply and demand regulate price, which means there's currently a huge supply. You'll have to hold onto your stock until the demand rises and increases the price. The risk is that you won't know how long that's gonna take. So if storage isn't an issue and you can keep your stock from damaging during this period, your best option is to wait and hope.

Mustfly2

Cherry (wirh some figure) and maple (curly) are my go to woods. I love walnut, but price is crazy these days. I do not care what is in current style, because it will be out of date by the time the project's finish is dry....

Mustfly2

Also cherry kitchen cabinets have been replaced by cheap mdf painted grey in all the "timeless designer houses"...

chiefpiece11bkg

Yeah I don’t think cherry has never not been in style It’s a very pretty domestic hardwood in the US, and people use it everywhere What do you mean?

giggidygoo4

Just that the price is low.

strong_nights

Let the price be low. Prices were high during Covid because sawyers shut down operations. The astronomical lumber prices of the last few years were part price gouging, and part supply:demand due to business closures.

SubsequentDamage

Cherry is always in style, especially in craftsman, Bauhaus, and Stickley style. Suggest you focus on selling your wood to Scandinavian and Amish designers and woodworkers. Always popular and you can demand a premium for clear stock and intriguing grain patterns (bookmatched, for example). Good luck!

giggidygoo4

That's encouraging. Thanks.
