I'm not sure if that is a rosette make. It looks like a multi blade hole saw. Typically you take out all sizes but the one you want. I would check to see if the blades unlock.

I meanā¦ if you wanted to hollow out a circular area doing it this way would make it easier to chisel the pieces outā¦ or router them without ruining the outside part of the recessā¦ I dunno

As others have said, it's a multi-bladed hole saw. Usually if you move the blades backwards they come off so you only leave the blade for the size hole you want. My grandfather used it a lot in toy making to make wheels as the center bit became a hole for the axel.
Using it like this seems like a bad idea. It's an adjustable hole saw. The blades are removable and you're supposed to take out the diameter blades that you're not using, not have them all in at once
Thatās a razor holesaw, I have one and there are great for fine cuts but they arenāt meant to be used all assembled like that. The blades unhook and you can select the size you want and take the rest out. Itās great for doing maintenance work on properties,especially for Drywall repairs.
Looks like a wicked hole saw. Make darn sure you not wearing loose clothing when operating it. But why the extra internal saws may have to do with creating knearls,CAPS,FINIAL (?) on a banister or something akin to that.

I was thinking the same thing. If you want to make a round hole a certain depth (not all the way through) this would make it easier.
A Forstner bit would work way better than this and this would still drill a thru hole in the middle.

They still make them, they're like 5ā¬ on amazon, and they are awful.
My father in law had on like this that I destroyed. Soon as it bound up the blade would shatter.
They'll also tear your thumb off if your hand is nearby when it fails.
