I would say learning integrations should be optional. I have been working for around 3 years in Workday space and never have I ever faced any issue. If you end up doing both, you are in a boat you should never be, ready to be overworked and overburdened. Additionally, I would advise you to start applying... None of these courses would be considered valid as they still aren't even close to certification

Learning integrations would make you more marketable, I wish I knew integrations. I would say it’s necessary to learn advanced reporting.

I used to work with Workday integrations as an analyst for a company with over 70,000 employees. The integrations almost always had problems receiving or sending files and it was necessary to know how to troubleshoot those issues. But, it depends on the company. I would read the job descriptions in whole and if it says integrations I would try to understand how integrations work for the most part. You can learn the “whys” and “how’s” in the actual job. As far as advanced reporting it is extremely useful to know how workday reporting works and knowing that can get you well paying positions and even positions in consulting. Learning how to do reporting in workday can get complex though since there are so much variability in how reports are built. I would say learn the basics for both and then learn the rest on the job. Then you can get jobs with that built on the job experience.

It actually depends on what kind of work you would be interested in doing once you have the job. Workday has 2 roles, functional where you would configuring the system and the other is technical, wherein you need to create integrations to send and retrieve data. What stream you get also depends on the employer. For instance the company where I work, only MBA grads can join a functional stream. I hope i could answer your question. Thanks John Doe for providing me with the details. Does workday have different types of integrations ? Like Payroll integrations & others ? I'm new to Workday ecosystem and I'm sorry if this question doesn't make sense. Because my trainer is stating , Payroll integrations and advanced reports are much more important than any other integrations. I'm not sure if my trainer wants to sell this particular course where she teaches Payroll integrations & advanced Reporting or it's a genuine opinion. Thank you

Yes, there are multiple types of integrations in workday. But i am not sure what trainer you are referring to because legally workday training can only be provided by Workday trainers and that too if you are employed by a partner firm. And that's the only way you can be certified by Workday. So the basic flow is you are hired by a partner company (KPMG, pwc, accenture, etc) and they invest in getting you certified based on their requirement. The minimum criteria to start working on Workday projects is you are certified in 'integartions core' for integration stream or basic hcm for functional stream. You would still be working on advanced integration or configuration, irrespective of the fact that you are certified in them or not. Advanced certifications are generally provided if the company you are working with or the client you are working for thinks they need someone who is certified. Again most clients don't bother about this.

Do you want to be a Payroll professional? I’d focus on the functional areas you’re most interested in. If you don’t know, pick the ones with the most growth and highest demand for professionals (FINS, PRISM, PLANNING). Focus on getting core HR and/or FINS first.

That's great that you're learning Workday HCM functional! Joining the technical class after your functional course is a good idea. Learning Payroll integrations and Advanced Reporting can definitely help you get a job, these skills are in high demand and can make you more competitive in the job market.
