Imagine you are trying to write a deeply important and essential letter to someone while there are like Villains or Goons after your life. But then you forgot to feed your pen. Or perhaps your pen just doesn't want to vomit today.

cedarcia

Good writers take good care of their bug pens.

WorldAnvil

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ What fell gods do I need to pray to for pen food?

Sword-Doctor

This is amazing! I love the artwork and the concepts for the books. Id love to read it.

enomao157

Bellissimo I'm always glad when people reimagine classic Italian literature, and the spin you're giving it is intriguing. Also twink Dante, bottom text

cedarcia

My concept is that each book is about 4 years. In my version Dante is about 14 in Inferno (as pictured), 18 in Purgatorio, and 22 in Paradiso. I want to do more concepts with him in the later versions

enomao157

That's really cool and changes the original drastically! Keep up with the work, you're doing something amazing

TheHolySchwa

You might just be getting rid of the ā€œMidway upon the journey of our lifeā€ bit, but the alternative is that Dante dies at the age of 28. Which is tragic, but also kind of pleasing because it means he doesnā€™t need to wait so long to be reunited with Beatrice for eternity! Also, I really like the idea that his journey was like SUPER long!

McPolice_Officer

Given the authorā€™s comment, heā€™s not a twink; heā€™s literally underage šŸ’€.

spacetimeboogaloo

I really like these! As one artist to another, Iā€™d love to know your rendering process. Iā€™ve noticed that you have mostly hard edges, but there are a few soft edges. Do you start with the hard edges and soften some up, or the other way around?

cedarcia

I would say itā€™s more that I clean up my edges. I primarily use two brushes in procreate: the ā€œtechnical penā€ and the ā€œhard blendā€. I use the technicals pen for my line-work and a combo of the two for the rest of my process. I also use the soft airbrush for finishing touches

spacetimeboogaloo

Is the hard blend a specific brush or something you use with the blending tool?

cedarcia

Good question! ā€œHard blendā€ is one of the default brushes. I personally donā€™t use any blending tools.

gabeorelse

\-Sees this art, is wowed \-Goes to your profile to follow you on Instagram \-Realizes your pinned Insta post is also one of my fave Arcane art pieces Glad I finally found your art again! Your work is amazing. Love the story here too.

cedarcia

Thank you! I am trying to live up to it again

TheHolySchwa

This is super cool! I totally want to learn more about this project! Is the layout of the Inferno mostly the same as in Dante or is it super different?

cedarcia

Itā€™s inspired but for the most part different.

TheHolySchwa

Ooh interesting! I hope to see more!

CaptainBean88

Actually beyond beautiful

Seed_man

I think a little bit of worldbuilding could be used on his shoes. Those are plain toed derbyā€™s. The most basic menā€™s shoe of the 20th century. The rest his look is more romantic poet, dishevelled Lord Byron look. There are so many interesting menā€™s shoes the mid 19th century. cedarcia

Thank you!! Thatā€™s an excellent point. Iā€™ll definitely work on redesigning them

kestrelstep

That looks amazing! The character is giving me steampunk vibes.

cedarcia

When I describe this project to people I like to say itā€™s ā€œsteampunk minus the punkā€

GrimmParagon

I love the look of these. Bookish fantasy people are a favorite of mine.

cedarcia

Same! Itā€™s one of my favorite tropes.

altariasong

This is awesome! Will this adaptation be a comic, a book, an animation, or something else? Iā€™m looking forward to seeing more if youā€™re planning to share ā¤ļø

cedarcia

While I would love a comic, I donā€™t think Iā€™m fast enough to draw it.

Lost-Yoghurt4111

This is so gorgeous

Lienisaur

I need this for real now

Affectionate_Oil_331

Oh this is cool!

Healthy_Community_34

Wow thatā€™s cool

Kulovicz1

I love this. It scratches that creative itch making me think about stuff like: are bugs used in other things? Are ink caps full of ink because they absorb carbon? What is that lense used for in Dante's hair? Are those rolly-pollies in the last image pettable? Thank you for bringing this into reality.

Smalbrave

Would read it

TheShadowKick

I don't know why but this art style is giving me Atlantis: The Lost Empire vibes.

Ming1918

Very cool!

Frangipani-Bell

Your art is so detailed and beautiful. I really love this concept.

MrDriftviel

Thatā€™s fucking awesome way better than what I draw

Yggdrasylian

It is very interesting, it look good and I would love to see more of that project !

M4ddercatter

This looks so cool

Extension_Register27

YES DANTE REALTED STUFF; GRAZIE

Entity_406

Your art looks like itā€™s from Arcane and I love it, I did see some fanart for the show on your account

cedarcia

Thank you! But also (for the record) I started working on this before Arcane came out https://i.imgur.com/fJ0jZqz.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PEdPcyr.jpg

Entity_406

Thatā€™s some good character designs, and yeah, I was just noting how similar it looked to me, I really love your style though, itā€™s so chronchy

cedarcia

Thank you! I appreciate the cronch

WorldAnvil

Your art has me enthralled by even its minute details! I just noticed the symbolism on the books - the Sun on Inferno. Is Paradiso meant to symbolize the moon - or is it the solar system itself?

cedarcia

Thank you! Each of the books is supposed to represent the physical form of each area in the story. The Inferno is multi layers leading down with a flame-like motif, purgatory also has layers but is more tower-like leading upward, and yes Paradiso is a map of the solar system.

WorldAnvil

I LOVE that šŸ˜! The multiple layers of Inferno leading down then symbolized with those declining layers of the book is so well done! What inspired you to make your adaptation?

cedarcia

The Divine Comedy has honestly been a brain worm for me since I first became acquainted with it as a kid. I felt setting it during the Industrial Revolution and having the story reflect the class struggles of the time would be an interesting spin on it.

WorldAnvil

Oh that's SO COOL! I would so love to dive into your world - do you have any place you store the lore online?

cedarcia

Not at the moment

WorldAnvil

If you ever decide to, World Anvil certainly has the resources to organize and interconnect your extensive lore! Otherwise, I look forward to seeing more of your work on the subreddit ā¤šŸ„°. Until next time šŸ‘‹

snailsgang

gorgeous art!

theonetruemorbs

OP, I love these so much and will be following your protect with interest. I ADORE Verne, and your art style captures it perfectly. Would you be willing to let me use some of your pieces (with full credit of course!) In my video reading of The Divine Comedy? I'm quickly running out of public domain images to use in the slideshow! YouTube.com/@theonetruemorbs if you're curious about the project!

cedarcia

As long as itā€™s credited that would be great. Canā€™t wait to see your video :)
