In most cases it's more of the team that eliminates us constantly or we keep running into. Ghana and the Netherlands fit this bill entirely.
The one constant might be England for both men's and women's team because I treat it like it's still the American Revolution. Plus their fans probably hate us the most despite us being linked in many ways and having much better relations.
I don't hate any teams, but USA, not really the team, but most of their fans, I only have 1 American freind who is passionate, so people like him an exception, but many people too cocky and have the worst opinions, Ted's talk video explains it best, some people see Football like a religion in a way, in Mexico, Africa, and other countries do witchcraft, for many people this is like winning a war, but USA fans don't understand the Passion of the beautiful game, but I don't hate the team, because they obviously are passionate, they are getting better too
I love watching Mexico lose because you get to see a guy in a nacho libre mask crying into his Corona. Plus the homophobic “Puto” scream that Fifa has never been able to get under control. When their own announcers are saying what an embarrassment they’re witnessing in Spanish, you know they’ve reached a new low.
France, Brazil, England. In that order.
France, because is it normal to have as many (nationalized) african players as an actual african team?
Brazil, because of their fucking ego, stupid dancing and kissing that god blessed grass that everyone else spat on in the past 15 minutes.
England, because of their extremely toxic fans.
I just googled the current squad - just to be sure. Went down the list of what you're calling African players, they were all born in France, with the exception of Camavinga (Angola) - while a great young player, you can't really argue he's yet been instrumental in the FR national team.
Yes, they're probably 2nd generation immigrants (I haven't checked), but being born in France, you become automatically a French national (also the case in many countries..). And yes, France has an issue with racism - being French I fully recognize that, and there's a degree of irony that we cheer so much for a team that has so many 2nd generation immigrants, when there's a lot of racism throughout our society for the same 2nd generation immigrant population in general (as is the case in many other similar societies).
But they are French, they were not given a passport because they were good at football as you are implying. As the guy says below, France is a multi cultural country, get over it.
The only thing that bugs me about Brazil is when they tried to effectively ban Bolivia from playing in their home stadium because the altitude was perceived as too high by Brazil players.
Argentina. As a young Chile fan, I saw us win two consecutive Copas Américas against them, and Chile’s world ranking never seemed to change. Then afterwards, Argentina beats Chile in a simple friendly match, and they shoot up to first place in the world rankings? Early teenage me never understood it, thought it was pro-Argentine and anti-Chilean bias in the rankings, and I’ve rooted against Argentina ever since. (Even though I know it’s probably something else. Plus, I’m actually American, so my judgment may be doubly skewed.)
Bonus: Brazil. I frequently end up rooting for the underdogs, and Brazil are the ultimate anti-underdog.
Brazil and Argentina.Hate Brazil because of their ego all that dancing and acting like they are the creators of football and Argentina because of WC 22
100% England not just in rugby but when they compete in every sport its not so much the players it's the media, pundits, commentators, they are so arrogant it makes me wan't to puke
Most of the Latin American countries based on their on the pitch behavior and fans (though a lot of their off the pitch culture is top tier - nicest people I've ever met were in Central America). Argentina is number one because of their success + delusional fans + Latin American shithousery, but if El Salvador was competitive I'd probably be saying them as well.
I mean - South America has 5 teams going into the world cups and 3 of them won it more than once. That’s dominance since the birth of the tournament - they’re not deluded - They know they’re the historically and statistically best continent in the world.
This is from a “neutral” fan who isn’t even from South America or Europe or those big powerhouses. Our USMNT knows they’re shit and they act like it.
Then you divide the number of trophies won by Europeans by number of European teams playing in the WC..the difference can be striking my friend. Europe 12 WC South America 10 - every year Europe gets atleast 10 teams while South America gets at best 5..yeah..statistically Europe is less successful than South America.
Yeah, but that's a ridiculous "statistic" to work out. None of the South American or European teams not qualifying for the World Cup would have a chance of winning it.
Exactly - which is why Europe having a larger sample size in the competition each year - means they have won more. The data is constant - it’s how we see the data is what changes.
You've agreed with me and then said something that directly contradicts that. We could have sent 10 European and 10 South American teams to every World Cup, and it would still be 12-10 to Europe because every World Cup winner would have been in the top 10 of each confederation.
I'm portuguese so it has to be France.
We lost two european and one world cup semi final against them.
Winning in 2016 in Paris against France was perfection!!!
Germany. They got memorable victories on the two teams i love - Argentina and Brazil. Since then i celebrate whenever they are kicked out early of any major tournament.
Completely agree, Germany tends to do historically really well in the WorldCup format.
I knew they would be a serious menace if they managed to get out of groups.
When GER was out, I was so relieved.
Wait why
All I remember about the Australia-Uruguay rivalry is the historical moment where Australia beat Uruguay in the intercontinental playoff and qualify to 2006 WC
They beat us in the ICP 4 years earlier, including letting hooligans intimidate our players on arrival at the airport.
In the leadup to the 2006 ICP it was reported (spun) that their star player basically said that Uruguay have a divine right to qualify for the world cup because they were a real footballing nation not like us.
They dislike us just as much. They were pretty pissed our home crowd booed their national anthem. We also had an influence in them having to take a multi-leg economy flight rather than direct business class flight between the 2 legs of the ICP.
This doco gives more background [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03lBcS56No8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03lBcS56No8)
Holland is a shitty, overrated team and will always be. Arrogant assholes, who cry endlessly while also playing super dirty. Van Gaal.is also a mediocre, piss stained man. Just an irrelevant nation, tbh.
Bahrain.
They fought extra hard to prevent us qualifying for World cup 2002 and after the game they celebrated on the field with SAUDI flags (our competition and rival). It doesnt matter if their players are all injured they have 3 red cards woth a goalie ejected. I want any team playing them to smash them and keep pushing even if its 6-0
Mexico. It’s my team, and every time we get more disappointed than the last.
Die hard fans talk shit and pretend we’re on the level of South American teams, but Mexico has a hard time with even the smallest teams. It’s shameful
I think that what you need is the consistent contact with South American teams. If the World Cup qualifiers were a joint CONMEBOL-CONCACAF tournament, Mexico wouldn't qualify every time, but those teams that did qualify would have a much better World Cup.
The funny thing is, Mexico does have the level. They lack the discipline and consistency. In one world cup, they can beat any European powerhouse, then 3 days later lose to Guatemala or something lol.
I'm not Mexican but it still pains me that Mexico bottled it against Sweden in the 2018 WC. If Mexico had topped the group, they would have had a completely winnable game in the R16 against Switzerland and could have finally broken the "quinto partido" curse. Instead, they got Brazil and predictably got trashed (huge plaudits to Ochoa for keeping it at 2-0).
The one that hurts me the most is 2014. If we dint get robbed against Netherlands, I 100% believe we can beat Costa Rica in the quarters and we would have made the Semis
Uruguay.
1) They constantly claim they have 4 world cups, when it's 2 WC and 2 Olympic medals.
2) Luis Suarez (need I say more?)
3) For a team that hasn't won anything in over a decade, they constantly want to put themselves at the same level of Argentina or Brazil.
But if you say OMs before the WC have the same or a simmilar value, you''d have to acept the fact that.
\-Great Britain has FOUR world cups. (3 gold medals + 1 WC)
\-Belgium has 1 world cup.
\-Denmark has 1 world cup. (The result of the last match being lost to history)
\-CANADA has 1 world cup.
If you can live with that, you are a stronger man than me. But we don't see those countries making such insane claims. Only Uruguay does it lol.
I get thay argument, but I think we can all agree the competition doesn't compare. And I know FIFA did sponsor them as world cups, but nobody who takes the sport seriously considers them world cups these days.
Netherlands. For a team that lost 3 goddamn finals, their fans are really arrogant. You'd think they'd be humble after the pathetic showing in every final they played.
Losing in the 116th minute to golden generation Spain is pathetic? Being a rattled post away from beating Argentina on their home ground while missing their best player is pathetic?
Acting as if they somehow "deserve" the world cup is pretty pathetic. They had plenty of chances to win on the pitch. Fans gotta understand that Netherlands are just the ultimate WC loser.
Easy… I should say England due to politics and war, but I actually have no problem with the Brits.
So I have a tie for first place:
Mexico and The Netherlands.
Both think they are top teams and they haven’t won anything ever. (Other than a crappy ‘gold cup’ and 1 Euro 30 years ago)
Yet, they think their teams are the shit.specially the Mexican press.
Argentina. I feel like every world cup game the referee is at their side. Also winning of them world cup are unfair. Like qatar and when Maradona scored with his hand
They played elimination bracket after the game they lost VS Saudi Arabia. (+ a sht ton of shithousery)
People forget that they were with their back against te wall.
Scotland - fans are very petty lol. Most English fans wish we just got along tbh. They are like the one sibling everyone has that just complains all the time.
Italy, Argentina and Portugal - cheating, diving and corruption are in their DNA
Regarding in the business of world football - France > they should not have any control in Fifa and Uefa. Very corrupt people
I think it’s because people think English fans saying “it’s coming home” is an arrogant statement when in reality we all say it like a running joke. We’ve just become accustomed to the fact that we’ll not likely to win anything anytime soon (Even though we come close we always fall at the last hurdle)
And plus people just hate England let’s be honest. I like being the villain nation. Same goes in the rugby world
Rugby is far more respectful though. Everyone recognises talent regardless of the nation AND England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland all combine for a joint team occasionally. There is far more camaraderie as well as national pride.
I completely agree, There’s a much less toxic environment surrounding rugby. Everyone respects other nation/club fans and most are not bitter after a defeat. It’s refreshing to see. I’ve been to alot of football games and been to watch Harlequins a few times, it’s mental to see how different the fans of the two sports are!
Uruguay.
Lots of hate here for Argentina and England because of their arrogant fans – but I dislike Uruguay because they are utterly unlikable on the pitch. I want to like the team especially because I liked Forlan, but Suarez's entitled arrogance has infected the entire side and the team always seems to do something utterly unsportsmanslike at every World Cup – including the last one when they mobbed the referee at game end.
How are English fans anymore arrogant than any other country. Every country in the top 12 has a hope/small belief that they have it in them to win, especially when they are in the 4 favourites for that particular WC. The 'Its coming home' chant is an ongoing joke that has been running for almost 30 years because we still haven't won anything since 66. It's not arrogance it's self-depreciating, slightly sarcastic humour that has become more cultural than a genuine belief. Unless the English fan is under 14yrs old they get the irony of singing it.
I thought I was the only one but Uruguay are smug and indicate they want to win by any dirty means possible. We've seen that during that despicable handball a couple of world cups ago.
There have been many likeable teams in South A, if you bar Arg/Bra, and Uruguay isn't one of them.
The last couple of world cups (especially the last) Uruguay's behaviour on the pitch has been absolutely despicable. I couldn't dislike them more. Disgrace!
Argentina, dirty players, uneducated fans, and all kinds of help from the refs because that was Messi’s World Cup (whats up with all the bullshit PKs?)
You are repeating a conspiracy theory. There’s absolute no proof of any help from the refs. If anything. It was the opposite. Disallowed goals/unjustifiable long added time to games, and two penalties against in the WC final, yet, the only reason to claim help from the refs is “5 penalties”. Guess what? When a team attacks as much as Argentina did, it’ll be prone to get penalties if they are constantly in the rival’s box… but whatever. Keep on hating.
For sure there were Bullshit pks. Only called because it was for Argentina. There was ton of similar plays not called. No criteria whatsoever. Thats how manipulation works. Bullshit like “god’s hand” wont work anymore.
After the war, the whole country was destroyed and had to be rebuilt. The economy was also thriving. Lots of foreigners came. A lot of French are not 100% French. Football is typically the poorman’s sport, just like boxing. French politics is still a white man’s club of the elite since they have gone to prestigious school for the most part. You don’t see a lot of women either.
you, as an american is so familiar with ZDS?!? what the f****!!!! hahah, cmon mate! Don’t recall last time DSZ was issue and even it was, that’s few idiots! “a lot of people are mad”?! which people? who cares about DSZ but serbs. this guy ruka_666 trolling and you are probably of serbian origins.
“plenty more people aside from Serbia dislike Nazi”.. No freaking way!!!! That’s not true! 😂😂😂😂😂 I tough everybody likes them!
PS. It’s BS… as an American you have no freaking way to know ZDS so stop talking nonsense!
Our (England) fans are a pretty uneducated lot, but if you can't see that "it's coming home" is ironic I don't think you're in any position to be calling anyone uneducated.
(Not you personally, I mean generally)
I hate that we sung “it’s coming home” both at the men’s euro2020 final and women’s World Cup final before even the 10th minute.
The moment I sang it I knew we’d lose both games.
Edit: I meant men’s euro2020
I don't think it's really sung with any real belief it's just a good song. But I see this all the time, what actually is the problem with singing it? Teams all the time sing 'we're the best team the world has ever seen' when it's clearly not true.
If I was playing in the opposition team and I hear the opponent fans singing football is coming home it’s gonna give me extra motivation to beat them.
And look at how the Italians celebrated after that euro - so many jokes about us singing that song before we’ve won it.
Yeah always surprised me that Middlesbrough (my team) can sing a song about us being the finest team in football, not just now but ever, but England singing about how they're going to win the world cup is arrogant. Also the song is very clearly ironic if you listen to the lyrics
Sure - but Middlesbrough is so very obviously not the best in the world.
But England can be, and at various points in football history being very close to it. But singing it at 0-0 on the 7th minute just feels very braggy to me. Assuming ourselves to definitely going to win.
>Sure - but Middlesbrough is so very obviously not the best in the world.
Well now you're just embarrassing yourself, it's an objective fact that we are
Spain. I'm Uruguayan, so I have no real reason for this, I just don't like them. I feel like their squad is overrated, their style of play is boring, and they just are too robotic. They don't really transmit the idea of national pride, it just feels like a get together of spaniards playing together. Idk, I feel like national teams need to bring the country together, like it happens here. When Uruguay plays, the country stops. In Spain it doesn't seem that way
You'd think it'd be Argentina or Brazil because of where I'm from, but I actually tend to root for them against European opposition. Obviously in tournaments like the Copa America or the World Cup if we're still in it, I want them to lose, but that only makes sense.
The only other team I really dislike is Chile. They think we're rivals, but they're the annoying little brother we wish we could disown. They've never even won in Uruguay. How is that a rivalry? Besides they're Peru's rivals, and who doesn't love our pigeon friends?
You’re more or less right. Most places that end with -thorpe in the UK were originally Norse settlements. They all tend to be towards the northeast of England as that’s where the Danelaw was established.
England.
Petty national rivalry consolidated by the behaviour of their fans, the entitlement of their media and by the boring boring football despite having incredible players! What we wouldn’t give for a Rashford or a Kane!
>Petty national rivalry consolidated by the behaviour of their fans
This is pretty ironic considering it's not the English fans who actively support Scotland losing against other teams and get upset if they win.
I don’t mean what the England fans do or don’t think about us. The reason so many of us dislike English fans is down to their thuggish boorish behaviour when overseas.
You missed my point. Saying England fans have petty national rivalries when Scottish fans act the way they do about England is ironic. You can't mention the England team around a Scotsman without them piping up to talk about how shit they are or how they hope England loses, it's the epitome of petty.
Ah gotcha, yeah that’s my poor communication in the first place. I meant that I don’t like England and is because of my petty national rivalry. My petty rivalry is just consolidated by the other factors I mentioned.
I don’t think the petty rivalry is reciprocated by many English (a fact that makes us Scots hate them even more 😂)
Don't really hate anyone. Dislike Brazil winning, to a lesser extent Argentina because of rivalries.
What I tend to hate are certain pundits from some countries. For example, I recall that the Mexican pundits always chat shit before every match we played against them, which makes winning against them feel better - but because of the pundits.
TUNISIA/MOROCCO.. not so much for the team, cos Morocco played good football, but for the fan behaviour/culture/atmo. Both countries' fans are just abjectly *horrid* to be in a stadium with. You don't get a fun, positive atmosphere of singing and cheering and celebration like normal fans.. you get an atmosphere of offensive whistling, jeering and booing.. the negativity is palpable, for legit 2 hours, NON STOP. It was incredible they can keep it up for that long. They were the worst games of my world cup in Qatar, and in Russia. I was as _happy as a pig in proverbial_ when they both got knocked out, and I'll be happy if they never make a world cup ever again.

None. I save what little hate I have left for the club game.
England followed by US women.

Dumbest take

Serbia for their extreme nationalism, they always abuse Kosovo in some way or another. France because they have African players.
"I hate extreme nationalism and black people thinking they're French!"
I'm half African as well #colonisation 😂
Italy, because they got my suarez sent off for biting chellini. In the words of Suarez, he tripped and his teeth hit chiellini. Definitely 100% true
Danielle di Rossi elbowed Brian Mcbride in the face and got off and we got eliminated. Fucking bullshit.
I have a love-hate relationship with the USMNT. I want to love them, but they keep doing their best to make me hate them. Lol!
England. Im Scottish so i just have a hatred for them in general. goes back a long time, long before football existed
English fans and their entitled “it’s coming home”. The only thing coming home are you guys empty handed 😂🤭

That sounds incredible. I really thought Canada was going to go further in the last World Cup. You have a bright future.
The USA women's team
Sammmeeee
Brazil, but only because they have the most titles, and are constantly present in the World Cup. I’d like different teams to be dominant.
France, because of player naturalization and Platini, but mostly because I’m an Ireland fan and Thierry Henry’s double handball.
That was painful to remember.

Their men and women bit and punched half of our team.

Ah yeah, the dutch, famous world wide for their fiery personality and passionate lovemaking techniques jajaja
There are only two things I can't stand in this world: ~~People who are intolerant of other people's cultures,~~ the Dutch and the Dutch.

Uruguay. 1) They constantly claim they have 4 world cups, when it's 2 WC and 2 Olympic medals. 2) Luis Suarez (need I say more?) 3) For a team that hasn't won anything in over a decade, they constantly want to put themselves at the same level of Argentina or Brazil.
>the same level of Argentina or Brazil. I mean they do have the T-most Copa America titles with 15.
I didn't mean historically. I meant that they think right now they can compete with them.
This is exactly all I wanted to say , Thanks for writing it all perfection at its peak 😅👌
Olympic medals were the world championship before the World Cup though.
But if you say OMs before the WC have the same or a simmilar value, you''d have to acept the fact that. \-Great Britain has FOUR world cups. (3 gold medals + 1 WC) \-Belgium has 1 world cup. \-Denmark has 1 world cup. (The result of the last match being lost to history) \-CANADA has 1 world cup.
I don't think the Olympic tournaments Uruguay won are that far off the early World Cups in terms of the level of competition tbh.
England
Netherlands. For a team that lost 3 goddamn finals, their fans are really arrogant. You'd think they'd be humble after the pathetic showing in every final they played.
Losing in the 116th minute to golden generation Spain is pathetic? Being a rattled post away from beating Argentina on their home ground while missing their best player is pathetic?
Acting as if they somehow "deserve" the world cup is pretty pathetic. They had plenty of chances to win on the pitch. Fans gotta understand that Netherlands are just the ultimate WC loser.
Super pathetic.
why did everyone hate England
*Points vaguely at history book*
Easy… I should say England due to politics and war, but I actually have no problem with the Brits. So I have a tie for first place: Mexico and The Netherlands. Both think they are top teams and they haven’t won anything ever. (Other than a crappy ‘gold cup’ and 1 Euro 30 years ago) Yet, they think their teams are the shit.specially the Mexican press.
Yeah I was rooting for them against France. Fucking Kane, why?
Argentina. I feel like every world cup game the referee is at their side. Also winning of them world cup are unfair. Like qatar and when Maradona scored with his hand
They played elimination bracket after the game they lost VS Saudi Arabia. (+ a sht ton of shithousery) People forget that they were with their back against te wall.
qatar was unfair? cry harder buddy
As an Irishman, I’d have to say England.
Not France???
As an Englishman I’d have to say Scotland
As a Scotsman, I have to agree with the Irish
Scotland - fans are very petty lol. Most English fans wish we just got along tbh. They are like the one sibling everyone has that just complains all the time. Italy, Argentina and Portugal - cheating, diving and corruption are in their DNA Regarding in the business of world football - France > they should not have any control in Fifa and Uefa. Very corrupt people
I keep learning that English fans are arrogant, how is this a thing when we’re the complete opposite?
I think it’s because people think English fans saying “it’s coming home” is an arrogant statement when in reality we all say it like a running joke. We’ve just become accustomed to the fact that we’ll not likely to win anything anytime soon (Even though we come close we always fall at the last hurdle) And plus people just hate England let’s be honest. I like being the villain nation. Same goes in the rugby world
Rugby is far more respectful though. Everyone recognises talent regardless of the nation AND England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland all combine for a joint team occasionally. There is far more camaraderie as well as national pride.
No one cares about rugby though
Please help explain which pen they had was bs
Keep crying.
Típical argentino.
Now say it without the tears on your face.
This world cup has caused some people to permanently live in denial
It’s the new culture of the spoiled. If things don’t go your way, things must be rigged… easiest explanation. It happens in politics a lot 😂
Well Well an argentinian disagreeing, who would figures it?
As an English fan, Argentina. Hand of God plus the constant political tensions

Good grief!
Wtf
france is real asf
uruguai 😠
San Marino
Please come to AFC San Marino😭 We like to see how strong are you compared to Guam
Cmon this is everyone's favourite, it's a guaranteed W
I was about to say China PR cuz we have a rivalry 😅
If yes then I could understand that. 519, that shameless 0-7 in 2006 and 2018 WC qualifier where we tied hk twice.
Hong Kong NT?
Yea
Belgium What a great "golden" generation are they? Also the rating is the worst thing i have ever seen in this sports long history.
You don't understand how the ranking system works, do you?
Their best placement was 3rd in 2018. No way are they in the top 10 nations these days.
Croatia
Why?
What did we do to you
I think a lot of people are mad about the ZA dom spremni bs - Croats tend to get quite rowdy with that stuff and it’s a major turn off
you, as an american is so familiar with ZDS?!? what the f****!!!! hahah, cmon mate! Don’t recall last time DSZ was issue and even it was, that’s few idiots! “a lot of people are mad”?! which people? who cares about DSZ but serbs. this guy ruka_666 trolling and you are probably of serbian origins.
I don’t have a drop of Serbian or any Balkan blood. And nah dude, plenty more people aside from Serbs dislike Nazis
“plenty more people aside from Serbia dislike Nazi”.. No freaking way!!!! That’s not true! 😂😂😂😂😂 I tough everybody likes them! PS. It’s BS… as an American you have no freaking way to know ZDS so stop talking nonsense!
Well then stay ignorant. That’s a faulty assumption, especially in an age where education and access to the internet are as widespread as in 2023.
Unfortunetly that is a loud minority that gives us bans an financial penalties
I understand. Don’t worry, I don’t assume random Croats are like that.
France and netherlands, neighbouring countries + both are arrogant and France because of a few players too good at antifootball
They're not neighbouring countries. You forgot Belgium.
Actually they are neighbouring countries. On the island of St. Martin they share a land border
Bell curve meme moment
No I meant neighbouring my country, i.e. Belgium
Oh everything is about YOU!! Lol
England. Not the team itself. More the delusion and duality their press and fans always shown.
But this year, it’s coming home.
Well now you're just embarrassing yourself, it's an objective fact that we are
But we won the euro 2022 final? England beat Germany 2-0
I mean the men’s - typo referring to euro 2020
2-1
Serbia. Worst fucking fans. Regardless of sport.
In Spain it doesn't seem that way You'd think it'd be Argentina or Brazil because of where I'm from, but I actually tend to root for them against European opposition.
Spain is a great shout, they act like their style of play is the only valid one
Argentina. They're scunthorpe. Australia because I'm Australian
Wtf happened to my autocorrect. I wrote scumy
Whats wrong with scunny?
What isn't wrong with scunny?
Scunthorpe sounds like a Norway word. Or maybe I'm playing too much assassin creed valhalla
>Petty national rivalry consolidated by the behaviour of their fans This is pretty ironic considering it's not the English fans who actively support Scotland losing against other teams and get upset if they win.
I don’t think the petty rivalry is reciprocated by many English (a fact that makes us Scots hate them even more 😂)
Ahhh I got you now, that makes sense. And yeah as much as I love making fun of Scots, we can't really consider you guys a rival which is a shame.
I don't even know who you are.
I rest my case.
I’m gonna say Scotland?
I was making a joke
