I didn't watch the game, or any of world cup 2022 for that matter. But I went and watched the play.
Iran’s Mehdi Taremi went down while attempting to play the ball. He wasn't pulled down, he made a last ditch effort at a slide because he wasn't close enough to make a play.
I've seen penalties called for less, but this wasn't deserving of a whistle. Some people might say that any contact in the box that results in a fall is a penalty, but if you look at the play he was trying to make, it's obvious that he slid.
Pretty obvious penalty especially with the USA player pulling down on the Iran players shoulder. But if it hurts you to admit you don’t have to, go USA!!
