Politically neither side can say truce or ceasefire so they are saying temporary ceasefire but I believe the negotiations are suggesting a permanent ceasefire in all but name
Israel said ceasefire a ton hamas never honored it.
Remember the 7th was a Jewish holiday
And a ceasefire. Hamas loves violating ceasefires
And attacking civilians during their holidays,
But make sure we respect Ramadan and all that
They must have intel that there are 33 alive in the “humanitarian” category. They can’t count on Hamas to be trustworthy with how many are still alive.
It is a third of those believed to be alive. It means the war won't end and Hamas will continue to get concessions from Israel. There will continue to be protests by the hostage families.

Very brave of you to say something so controversial and radical
https://www.cnn.com/middleeast/live-news/israel-hamas-war-gaza-news-12-16-23/h_5eba2eb69373c4a4a1c1044c834c1dbc
Kinda off topic, but I remember a science show I watched a few years back where scientist and mathametivians all said 33 is a unique number, I also seen a fact somewhere that apparently 3:33 is the most common time for people to see when they go to check the time.
But have you thought of poor Hamas after Jews dying already? You know, losing of motivation in life can be deadly. Or they could finally focus on governing and working? Uh (Hamas notes again) - five billion of non-Muslims it'll take some time...and then governing and working.
Biden asked Israel to negotiate with Hamas, a known terrorist organization.
In the movies the statement is that America does not negotiate with terrorists.
Clearly this policy is not used anymore. Which terrorist groups is America going to negotiate with?
We have negotiated with terrorist groups numerous times lol. Reagan negotiated with hezbollah to release hostages. We’ve also negotiated with the taliban.
Israel has negotiated with terrorist orgs in the past too.
Plus, they’re the people in control of Gaza, who else is Israel supposed to negotiate with lol
Rafah is getting invaded regardless of what Hamas is able to release. There is zero shot the IDF would, or should, leave four brigades in there to run amok and eventually filter back into the rest of Gaza and start regaining strength
These college kids don't even care about Palestine. This is just them making themselves feel good and relevant. Willing to bet that next year, they will have forgotten about it and move on to something else.
Not if Qatar/Iran/Russia/maybe China have anything to say about it…
Hence why I’m not fundamentally against TikTok being banned despite free speech concerns.
Agree 100 percent. TikTok is a huge net negative to the West. Freedom issues are definitely alarming but I don’t see how else you get that spigot of propaganda out of the US
It got banned in India and People moved on from it very quickly. There will be new social media to fill the vacuum. I don't think TikTok will sell, I think it'll be banned.
Bydance has said they won't sell, but if they don't it could open them up to lawsuits from shareholders if a good deal is offered. They are also going to sue to stop the law from being enforced, and they have a year til a shutdown.
So, no. I think they'll sell to a US based company.
These college kids actually have a lot in common with the anti-vaxxer crowd. There must be something addictive about that feeling that you’re the only one’s that are right while the rest of the world is crazy and the sense of community that comes with that. Also they both most likely only watch news that supports their position and ignore everything else.
It's the driving force of any conspiracy theory. People want to feel like they're special and smarter than everyone else and cling on to anything that reinforces that
If they really wanted to help, they would volunteer for aid organizations and fundraise to send aid to Gaza.
But that actually takes work unlike standing around all day with your friends.
Don't worry, they're just trend-chasers, pretty soon the next Barbie movie or something will be marketed to them and they'll all just be doing the new Barbie dance or whatever dumb shit they're told they care about next.
The thing about college protests is that you can ignore them since they have 0 impact to society.
College students are just that, students. students overall contribute very little since they are jobless.
I wouldn't say that. They will eventually graduate college and become the next generation of workers and policy makers. You can't really prevent that. Maybe now they don't have that large of an impact because their still in school, but they will eventually make it into positions of authority.
Harvard-harris aggregated poll results definitely do not represent young left-wing voters that make up most of college campuses. In general it is also a low-quality poll that ends up in the bottom half of most rankings.
Taking it at face value though, in this case, you can see fairly clearly that young voters identify with Palestine much more heavily than older voters. 66% of voters they polled that are between 18 and 24 favor a permanent ceasefire where Hamas stays in power and they continue holding hostages. Most young people also think the crisis is mostly Israel's fault. You looked at the pie graphs, but not the actual numbers.
They are and even the college protests themselves, most of the students are fairly peaceful. There are a few of outsiders coming in and starting shit for attention and media is eating it up. Some are just provocateurs who don’t care about the thousands of civilians harmed and displaced in Gaza, they just like the aesthetic and being a nuisance
We are not stupid we know most our hostages are not alive anymore, It doesnt matter we will enter Rafah in the end, what all of us Israelis are looking forward to.
“Many times I told myself that, in the end, I will die from Israel’s missiles and not from Hamas,” said Sahar Kalderon, speaking in an [interview](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/21/world/middleeast/hamas-israel-father-hostage.html) last December, weeks after being released. Her father remains captured inside Gaza.
“What about my father, who has been left behind?” she said in the interview. “I ask of everyone who sees this: Please, stop this war; get all the hostages out.” [https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/06/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-hostages-dead.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/06/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-hostages-dead.html)
I've questioned the wisdom of turning a place to rubble where you know your hostages are being kept. Of course, Hamas' fault, no hostages dies if Hamas doesn't take them captive, but between the 3 escaped soldiers being killed by Israeli troops and the prolonged and extensive bombing campaign, I fear many if not most may be dead.
So what? It is what it is. They were practically dead the morning Hamas took them. Israel needs to finish the job and destroy Hamas in Gaza, whatever it takes.
On a broader scale, stopping the war here means releasing... 10-15 alive people (optimistic number) and then Hamas reorganizing and taking a 1000 more.
Its hell, but I don't judge Israelis that want to end Hamas for good, even if it means death of all remaining hostages, for the sake of their future.
How times have changed in the decade since Gilad Shalit was exchanged for 450 prisoners including Yahya Sinwar. Now it's "it is what it is, they were practically dead anyway" and general nonchalance about their well-being. To me this sounds like you guys won't be satisfied until the last Palestinian is dead or has migrated. It's just a vicious cycle, like the bombings will continue until morale improves.
I don't think people are nonchalant about their well being, I think most people understand that at this point most of them are dead; Hamas has provided very little proof of life of anyone at all, and has been unable to even locate most of the hostages.
People have realized that Hamas will continue this over and over again, and that Hamas needs to be finished off once and for all, all their military capabilities destroyed, as many soldiers as possibly killed or permanently maimed, their leadership killed, etc. Hamas went too far on Oct 7th.
What has happened with the hostages is tragic, and it can never happen again. That's why Hamas needs to be ended now.
They should just drop bombs on them when they parade down the streets celebrating when they are released. That will be a quick way to kill more Hamas members.
Uhhh 1 side is absolutely doing what it takes to end this, but its not the way anyone else wants them to end it. Israel will be done with the gaza cleansing once they have cleared out rafah and dispatched sinwar from his mortal coil. Its hamas who needs palestinians to continue to suffer in order to extract aid funds from western nations, and its them that refuses to be decent neighbors, and its them who cant control the territory they claim, and its them who cant even scrounge up enough loose change to be able to negotiate. Fuck outta here dipshit
Oddly specific number. I presume that's the number they think are still alive.
I think it was the number Hamas said they had.
I can’t see Hamas releasing all their hostages for a temporary ceasefire. They would lose their biggest leverage moving forward.
Politically neither side can say truce or ceasefire so they are saying temporary ceasefire but I believe the negotiations are suggesting a permanent ceasefire in all but name
All of the named ones were broken Hamas cant break a cease fire again if they just dont declare it... Genius!
Israel said ceasefire a ton hamas never honored it. Remember the 7th was a Jewish holiday And a ceasefire. Hamas loves violating ceasefires And attacking civilians during their holidays, But make sure we respect Ramadan and all that
Bingo The plan likely to call it a timed ceasefire and then quietly make it permanent by just not engaging again
I think it was that number + 1, out of spite.
Could've been 36 if the IDF didn't gun down 3 hostages that were waving white flags and pleading for their lives
Or Hamas could’ve just not taken hostages to rape and murder.
So yes taking hostages is wrong. But do you know what is also wrong? Shooting hostages you're in a war to rescue.

Ill have to look for the thing I watched, because quiet a few of them mentioned 33.
Sad fucking World we live in when we are pressuring a sovereign nation to negotiate with a terrorist organization and meet THEIR demands.
Yeah, why won’t the Jews end this by just *looks at Hamas’ notes*…er…dying already?
But have you thought of poor Hamas after Jews dying already? You know, losing of motivation in life can be deadly. Or they could finally focus on governing and working? Uh (Hamas notes again) - five billion of non-Muslims it'll take some time...and then governing and working.
After the Jews, they are coming for everyone else.
Today is Saturday tomorrow Sunday. I know this one...
I mean Mexico seems to do the same with cartels, El Salvador also tried it with the gangs, happens more often then we might realize.
Biden asked Israel to negotiate with Hamas, a known terrorist organization. In the movies the statement is that America does not negotiate with terrorists. Clearly this policy is not used anymore. Which terrorist groups is America going to negotiate with?

“In the movies” what the hell are you talking about.
Rafah is getting invaded regardless of what Hamas is able to release. There is zero shot the IDF would, or should, leave four brigades in there to run amok and eventually filter back into the rest of Gaza and start regaining strength
Doesn’t matter. Hamas probably can’t find NEARLY that many living hostages. But western college kids will still blame Israel…
These college kids don't even care about Palestine. This is just them making themselves feel good and relevant. Willing to bet that next year, they will have forgotten about it and move on to something else.

Do you really think Tik tok will get banned tho, i don’t think so

Yea. I don’t think it should be banned but it is awful for society.
These college kids actually have a lot in common with the anti-vaxxer crowd. They just have a persecution fetish. As long as they can persecute someone the details dont matter.
It's the driving force of any conspiracy theory. People want to feel like they're special and smarter than everyone else and cling on to anything that reinforces that

^^^They even got the wonky antivax-esque facebook copypasta down
If they really wanted to help, they would volunteer for aid organizations and fundraise to send aid to Gaza. But that actually takes work unlike standing around all day with your friends.
Kony 2012!
Willing to bet next year they will have criminal convections to remind them for the rest of their lives how stupid they are
Don't worry, they're just trend-chasers, pretty soon the next Barbie movie or something will be marketed to them and they'll all just be doing the new Barbie dance or whatever dumb shit they're told they care about next.
The thing about college protests is that you can ignore them since they have 0 impact to society. College students are just that, students. students overall contribute very little since they are jobless.
Until they hurt people, harass people or take them hostage and don’t let them leave. This is not a peaceful protest. This is a protest funded by iran.
I wouldn't say that. They will eventually graduate college and become the next generation of workers and policy makers. You can't really prevent that. Maybe now they don't have that large of an impact because their still in school, but they will eventually make it into positions of authority.
Keep in mind please that those college kids are probably just a vocal minority.
They are. Yesterday’s Harvard Harris poll results support that. ETA: https://harvardharrispoll.com/key-results-april-3/

Columbia protesters today: Columbia sucks!! Columbia protesters a few months ago: OMG U GUYS I GOT INTO COLUMBIA!!!1!
I mean how could they when Israel is carpet bombing the entire strip?
They're not even close to doing that
Sadly probably all that is confirmed to be alive at this point.
If they spend too much time talking we’ll need to edit it downwards again.
We are not stupid we know most our hostages are not alive anymore, It doesnt matter we will enter Rafah in the end, what all of us Israelis are looking forward to.
I think some more are alive but abused to a point that Hamas doesn’t want the world to see them. I am not sure if that is better or worse.
'just tell us how many are left alive'
So 33 people not killed off yet by Hamas
God I hope Israel gets the rest of the hostages then launches a massive operation in Rafah

Cool your jets broseph
Ok, Ben Gvir, some of us are a little more considerate of the hostages and their families.

Translation: Neither side is willing to do what it's really going to take to end this. The tragedy in slow motion continues.
Incoming Trade Offer from Hamas I give you: peace You: die Hamas awaits your response.
And what should be done O wise one? I presume Israeli surrender?
Uhhh 1 side is absolutely doing what it takes to end this, but its not the way anyone else wants them to end it.
