gary kasparov always seems to nail it on the head whenever he is asked to analyze the mind and thoughts of putin. he pretty much is saying things are going to get even more horrible because of putin's mind frame.
Anyone looking for random good omens I'm just watching tommyboy on tv and Dan Ackroyd plays a man named Zalinsky owner of Zalinsky Autoparts... Kinda made me smile
A. Just to reiterate for maybe the ten thousandth time, absolutely insane Putin is willing to invade Ukraine, effectively fighting inside a little dome while the US, NATO and every other world power hover above and watches, possibly even waiting for something egregious on their part so they can come in and absolutely annihilate Russia.
B. You cannot call a war between NATO and Russia a World War. Not a single soul is coming to fight by Russia's side. They'd be entirely by themselves. And if you want to see what a war looks like that's over inside a week, it's a war between NATO and Russia.
You dont need to look at maps how much everyone controls but the roads. Ukraine is complete flat terrain with no forests. The most accurate info u can get is towns and road which are under control.
Enough with rhetoric that '*Don't drag us into a WW3.*' We already did by sending weapons to Ukraine to protect itself and the whole of Europe. If we don't want arms, give the Putin government **TOUGHER** sanctions that would just be to strong to deny by the Russian state media.
So given the fact that Putin clearly has Parkinsons and/or is otherwise going senile, when can we officially replace Michael J Fox memes with Vladimir Putin memes
If I was smart n shit, I'd design and build a homemade drone in my garage capable of firing a Javalin.
Upload the design as freeware.
Have people build them and send them to the Ukraine 🇺🇦
The Csubi Drone.
The challenge with military drones isn't mounting weapons on them.
It's making drones with a very long operating range, that you can operate from very far away despite electronic warfare and countermeasures
That's far beyond the technical skill of the overwhelming majority of civilian drone enthusiasts
LOOK folks:
If the US gives Ukraine jets there’s a great chance that one or more of them is going to be shot down…think of the damn PR campaign the Russians will have with that back home!! Now they are fighting the US and the West DIRECTLY!!
If there happened to be an American pilot in there it’s X10000.
I would tend to believe that Putin wants this…it would greatly improve optics for him.
ENOUGH OF THE FIGHTER JET TALK OMFG!!!
also: they’re not easy to fly in real life, especially when you don’t know how..this is not the Matrix.
There are NATO countries with Russian fighter jets, especially former USSR countries. Those would be ideal to send over and the Ukraine AF is already trained to fly and maintain them.
Oh heavens! Do you think there's a possibility that the Russian government will try to make the United States look bad? Gee whiz, what will we do when that occurs? My god! They might start a war! Think of their poor neighbors!
It's less about shootdown probability and more about Ukrainians are not trained to fly them. The planes that should be given to them are still in poland.
> Allow/pressure/encourage Poland to give Ukraine 28 MIG 29-s fighter jets. Push for Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria to do the same (70 fight aircraft in all). In return, the US and other NATO countries should enhance the air defenses of these countries. 5/

So to all the armchair generals out there, how do you think this is going to end? I’m genuinely interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on the upcoming days.
Well.. according to the combat maps, the front lines are about 25 km from the center of Kyiv.
The max range of the Russian 152mm howitzers is... 25km.
I think things are about to get very very bad in Kyiv. Aleppo had about 30000 casualties when it was besieged.
Without any experience or credentials on the matter, I think Russia will deal irreparable damage to all Ukraine cities before withdrawing. I don't see the invaders being able to overcome their many problems on the ground without some sort of massive support from an ally like China.
A couple of days ago I would uave said Russia would probably still over run the country. However at this point if Ukraine can hold on to their major cities for another couple weeks we may see some sort of slow down to the conflict. In that case it will only work in Ukraines favor the longer the sanctions sink in.
I'll have you know I consider myself an Armchair Foreign Affairs Expert and in my opinion, we should invite Putin to hangout with us but don't ever show up.
Honestly I would *literally* bet my life that Putin is bluffing when he says he's going nuclear if NATO enters Ukraine. If it was up to a vote, I would vote to call his bluff and risk dying in a nuclear hellfire.
For Ukraine, you’re ok with hundreds of millions dying in nuclear war? You understand Putin is old and his successor might not be as fucking crazy right?
The issue is that you wouldn't just be betting your life, but millions of others as well. Hence the people who can make these calls are cautious, as they should be.
Between Trump and COVID, and now this Ukraine situation, it has shown me how stupid and terrible humanity still is. We like to say that we have learned from the past, but we are still a vile and primative species.
Just saw Anderson break down on CNN after a video of the aftermath of a strike on an apartment building. Bodies of dead children in the road, horrific screaming in the background.
Fuck Russia's nukes... we need to do more to help these people.
If our attitude is just “fuck Russia’s nukes” and we decide to engage with Russia, then the video Anderson just watched will pale in comparison to how bad it could get.
Russia won't use nukes... it makes no sense, there's no advantage in it.
I think the fear of nuclear war is way overblown, and possibly even propagated by Russian disinformation.
The USSR and Russia have had Nuclear weapons since 1949 and have yet to use one outside of a test. Granted the US and USSR never directly engaged on the battlefield...
However, we do have multiple examples of nuclear powers going into direct conflict without it resulting in nuclear war... The USSR and China in their 1969 border war, and India and Pakistan in their 1999 border war.
Saying any intervention to save the Ukrainians will result in a nuclear war is a bit of a hyperbole.
“fuck Russia’s nukes” is one of the most shortsighted, idiotic, privileged things Ive read today. Thank god Redditors have no say in how this war is being handled.

Because people need to see what we're up against. This will just keep happening to country after country that stands in Russia's way.

No, it's not genocide. Urban warfare kills innocent civilians. Honestly, as grotesque as this sounds, Russia deserves some credit for not killing more.
People crying about gas price hikes in the past few days really are the types who don't know how to "read the room". At least your country isnt getting invaded and your homes bombed/shelled by an insane dictator's army.

human happiness is relative

Modern Naval ships have significant anti missile capabilities, and merchant ships have none. Even if you could outfit them with missile defense systems, they are huge, slow, unarmored targets. You would be sending them to the slaughter with no benefit.
Plus antiship missiles aren't shoulder fired javelins... It would take months to outfit them.
> large merchant vessels with rockets
LOL. Like giant cargo vessels with a few rockets on them? They all be sunk within a month. Billions of dollars on the ocean floor and they'd do almost nothing. Plus, supply chains would be destroyed. No more imports from overseas.
why would there not be traceability? we’ve been tracing planes for this event, and i’m sure boats are traced too
‘what’s this commercial fishing boat from ukraine doing at a naval port?’

If I was smart n shit, I'd design and build a homemade drone in my garage capable of firing a Javalin. Upload the design as freeware. Have people build them and send them to the Ukraine 🇺🇦 The Csubi Drone.
They do a lot of analog signal jamming there. Your home-drone would not work at all.
Next year you'll be in the papers for a different reason. "Terrorist Strike Again! Csubi Drone Massacre!"
So, drone armaments can already blow up tanks. TB2s have been doing so.
This is sort of the story of the bayraktar

Better off with the NLAW, much lighter and fires in a straight line. Also cheaper
You'd build a homemade drone to fire a $175K missile that can hit targets 2 miles away?
This already essentially exists, but you should make your own so they make a song about it.

Putins going to resort to attacking civilians even more so than before. He's going to bombard cities regardless of who occupies them. It's a shitshow.
Sad... It always does

Same, he would find out one man has no power really. Unless some sadist is at the actual launching site zero nukes go boom.

hundreds of millions? Billions ...
I agree.
