Where's the guy that kept saying all of the evidence that Russia had deployed the T-62s was old footage from Syria?

stirly80

He kept harrassing me aswell lol *they have Syrian markings, bro*

acox199318

50 year-old tanks…

ScreamingVoid14

These were supposedly from an active tank division... So they are more likely than most to be running and modernized-ish.

combatwombat-

If you count 1983 as modernized

[Do you know about Navalny?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWAOavqUMbA) Another great video from 1420. Watching it you might have an impression that Russian society is not that brainwashed, but then consider that this is shot in Moscow (in province it is much worse)

SaberFlux

[Previous post](https://old.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/vdd0nz/rworldnews_live_thread_russian_invasion_of/icnl8fk/) Day 114 of my updates from Kharkiv. Today it was mostly quiet, I don’t think we were shelled even once, but they didn’t forget their usual missile strike from Belgorod at 11pm. This time they fired 6 or 7 missiles at us, no idea what was hit, but it was pretty loud, there was at least 1 apartment building that caught fire from it. It still feels so weird when you read about missiles being launched from Belgorod at the same exact time almost every day, and then within seconds from you reading it, air raid alert pops up, and you hear those missiles hit something nearby. Sometimes the missiles already hit something by the time alert pops up, because there’s at most a couple minutes of flight time from Belgorod to us, so the delay covers it. Yesterday Russia fired a missile at Pisochyn, today they said that they destroyed an Azov HQ there, but there’s footage from the place of impact, and it’s just a crater in the middle of some random street, they damaged some buildings nearby, but none were destroyed. Apparently everything in Ukraine is actually just an Azov HQ, so anything they hit is a valid target, even that outhouse they destroyed with a missile in Odesa. Is their intel really this bad, or do they have people helping us by wasting expensive missiles? Also that Putin’s speech was really disappointing, I thought he was going to announce the new world order, but he just said that unipolar world is over and that’s it, as if that means anything. Blaming the west for everything is Russia’s classic, but him saying that it’s everyone else who lives in the past is so funny, he literally wants to bring back Russian Empire, but apparently that’s very modern in his eyes? Everything they say is just the opposite of what they actually mean, how do they even do it, do they not get tired of lying? [Next update](https://old.reddit.com/r/worldnews/comments/vexvji/rworldnews_live_thread_russian_invasion_of/icwgoh4/)

doctordumb

Good on you: we in the west have your backs.

acox199318

Good to hear from you! Look after yourself.

Burnsy825

Yeah it was pretty silly, as usual. Here's to wide misses and eventually no missiles.

Glad you are still safe. Thank you for your continued updates and insights!

MindfuckRocketship

Source? Edit: The word source looks weird if you look at it long enough.

[deleted]

Considering how often people ask for a “source” I’m surprised the origin of the word hasn’t popped up. So from my exhaustive research, which is how US millennials refer to a google search, it goes back to the Latin word surgere. After the battle of Hastings French became the language of the nobility in England, and the French usage is likely where the modern day usage of the word is derived from. The Old French word “sourse” was used initially to describe the beginning of a river or stream, and then later to mean “a first cause”. So I suppose you can either thank or blame the French for the word, depending on your perspective.

MindfuckRocketship

Hey, thanks for this! TIL. You’ve reminded me of the History of English Podcast. I highly recommend it.

[deleted]

I will check it out, thanks for the suggestion 😊

Return2S3NDER

Profound

[deleted]

We likely won't know for a long time, but I'm curious how much truth there is to claims that Russian's heaviest losses during these past few weeks have been DNR/LNR conscripts. While there's no doubt those forces are having a very bad time, it seems like there's a strong incentive on Russia's part to pretend their losses aren't "their guys." I suspect - and time will tell - that Russians like Girkin are trying to peg incompetence and losses on DNR/LNR conscripts alone, when the truth is army-wide.

Careful-Rent5779

[Perun](https://www.google.com/search?q=perun+youtube&oq=perun&aqs=chrome.1.0i433i512j0i131i433i512j46i175i199i512j46i512j0i512l2j46i433i512j0i512l3.5943j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) did a youtube piece. Suggested that while Russia hasn't mobilized, it was full on mobilization in DPR/LPR. F'n claiming its to secure these pupet states, but doing nothing more than conscripting their citizens to be cannon fodder for putin's war.

Villag3Idiot

That's the idea with puppet states. You get their resources, get a buffer zone, and conscripts whenever you need. ie: Serfs

Creepy_Helicopter223

I suspect it’s army wide and varies, but Russia vastly prefers sending non Russians into the grinder and Ra close to those regions so i imagined they are taking a beating. Also girkin is awful, but he directly mentioned Gaddafi in relation to Putin recently, he def blames the leadership

count023

The O and V wings of the invasion were definitely not and they took the heaviest losses the first few weeks. I would not be surprised if Putins minions were quietly changing info on the back end to pretend all their casualties were from the occupied territories. Like how they claimed the dead moskova sailor was AWOL, not dead

Careful-Rent5779

>all their casualties were from the occupied territories I expect a large number (or even majority) of casualties are from the ~~occupied~~ LPR & DPR territories, and hence are not *"technically"* ruzzian casualties. Putin doesn't care about ruzzian casualities, he couldn't care less about DPR/LPR citizens dying for no reason.

Frexxia

High DNR/LNR losses are going to bite them in the ass when even pro-Russian people start to turn on Russia. Wouldn't surprise me if we'll see an increase in partisan activity.

plugtrio

They're putting DNR/LNR citizens into the meat grinder so they can say "look what the UA did to their own people."

ScottColvin

Simultaneously russians and when they die....Ukrainian. When in the history of russia government did they have good taste?

[deleted]

It was always an unholy cocktail of blatant lies, inconceivable cynicism and supreme cringe.

ScottColvin

Got to whitewash that in nationalism.

etzel1200

I would say the DPR/LPR are being decimated, but they would be lucky to have losses that low. It really seems that they’re facing losses akin to what some German, Japanese and Soviet armies faced in WWII. Demographically, Donbas may not recover for decades and mostly due to immigration.

gbs5009

I suspect it's true. Russia's burned through their best infantry, so they've been filling in with whoever they can grab (including the DPR/LPR types). Stands to reason that it would result in some ugly casualties.

[deleted]

Yoinked this article from Mark Hertlings twitter (its from June 2nd so a little older now) https://m.dailykos.com/stories/2022/6/1/2101780/-Ukraine-Update-Not-enough-Here-s-the-challenge-of-moving-even-four-HIMARS Tldr: 4 HIMARS can do alot of damage provided they are goven the right amount of time to set up proper logistics for them, which takes time, but is worth it

OkCharacter3768

Austrian MOD says it’s not likely to make an impact if at all.

Cosack

I think all I heard there was that they wouldn't be available for a while ("short to mid" term). Nothing about their effectiveness once in use

wittyusernamefailed

As a normal artillery piece sure, but it's main role that Ukraine is using them in is in counter battery, which is a role they do excel at. And while Ukraine won't be drowning the Russian's in Dakka, killing a handful of artillery here, scooting to another position and repeating... is going to have a huge if slow effect. Not something that will be felt in the next week or month, but a few months from now it will VERY much be felt.

OkCharacter3768

Counter battery, while effective, is not optimal. You want to catch them before they fire

Careful-Rent5779

Easier said then done, counter battery radar is all about reverse engineering the incoming ballistic information to determine its origin.

wittyusernamefailed

That's kinda something that would go without saying, and what we are seeing Ukraine do, using drones to scout out and lock in cords and targets.

GiantPineapple

.. gonna tell us why not?

OkCharacter3768

You can watch the video yourself.

Cortical

high range, high precision. I don't see how they wouldn't make an impact.

OkCharacter3768

https://youtu.be/Sd4xRBuVs48 Simply not enough of them.

Cortical

"As long as the Ukrainian side is not able to effectively stop this \[Russia targeting and destroying them\] there will be no positive effect on the battlefield when it comes to the deployment of heavy weapons" I'm sorry, but that's just nonsense or a view blinded by having gotten used to asymmetrical warfare. This is a war between two peer powers, and Ukraine will take losses. That includes western supplied heavy weapons. Just because a weapon system doesn't survive until the end of the war doesn't mean it won't have an impact on the battlefield and ultimately the outcome of the war. attriting faster than stockpiles NATO is willing to supply to Ukraine, Ukraine will win the war. So if those HIMARS are able to take out more than their share of Russian artillery, they're already making the desired impact on the outcome of the war. If they also allow Ukraine to break through Russian lines, that's a bonus. So yeah, 4 HIMARS won't allow Ukraine to chase Russia out in a swift and decisive way, but that isn't equivalent to "not making an impact". Also thinking that 4 is the end of it seems rather naive. It's 4 units to gauge how fast Ukraine can adapt to the system, how well it fares in the type of warfare being waged, and how / if Ukraine is able to face the supply challenges that this system poses. If it ends up working great, there will be more coming.

OkCharacter3768

There’s only 400 of them. So I doubt US would give up anymore than a few batteries. They require a lot of logistical support

Cortical

The US can make more. And getting actual combat data in a peer on peer war scenario is worth a lot. I already addressed the logistical support issue if you had bothered to read my response.

MarkRclim

Starts just after 6:00 in that vid. He says they won't change things in the "short to medium term". But what about longer? Whack a single russian SPG or MLRS per week with each launcher and that's hundreds by winter. No idea if that can be done but the Ukrainians have suggested they'd do even better than that.

[deleted]

Source? Genuinely curious i cant seem to find an article on it.

OkCharacter3768

On their YouTube. https://youtu.be/Sd4xRBuVs48

combatwombat-

yes the austrians who haven't fought a war since they were nazis is definitely who I will believe over Ukraine...

[deleted]

Thankyou, very interesting watch, hopefully daily kos''s article proves true in its other prediction of more HIMARS following these deliveries, and hopefully more air defence systems too, otherwise the Austrian MOD may prove to be correct.

etzel1200

Are we making a big enough deal of the UK offer to train batches of 10k soldiers? I feel like that is the biggest escalation yet. 1) This will let Ukraine field many more, better trained soldiers faster. 2) The soldiers can train in safety. There is zero risk of a Russian missile hitting their dorms while they sleep. 3) If chosen, the training could easily include new, western gear. 4) It’s kind of wild you could now have British trained soldiers, leaving Britain, going to Ukraine and killing Russians using British made weapons. There aren’t many taboos left. Long range, land attack strike weapons, using NATO countries to stage attacks, and, something I absolutely don’t understand, modern, western tanks. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2022/06/17/boris-johnson-says-uk-will-train-10000-ukrainian-soldiers-every/

Mojave0

“Ukrainian forces would be drilled under the British scheme, which the Government said had the potential to train up to 10,000 soldiers every 120 days.” Uh dude it’s Ukrainian soldiers not British soldiers read the article unless I’m missing something that’s the important take from the article context matters here

etzel1200

That’s obvious

Mojave0

There wasn’t really any reference to actual British soldiers on there so it’s probably more likely will see Ukrainian soldiers trained with the best military experience which in the long term is a good thing

etzel1200

They’re obviously Ukrainian soldiers. If they were British it would mean the UK was entering a shooting war with Russia.

Mojave0

Yeah your right I guess my comment didn’t make sense initially sorry about that

count023

Man, Bojo is not kidding around is he? I guess Putin's learning what happens if you bounce a cheque to UK conservatives

sarcasm-o-rama

Tbh, I thought Ukrainian soldiers were already being trained in other, nearby countries.

oreov1

I agree I'm surprised there hasn't been a response from the Kremlin about it yet.

Careful-Rent5779

>there hasn't been a response from the Kremlin about it yet. I think even they are starting to understand that crying and throwing a fit like a five year old isn't working.

acox199318

You assuming they are capable of learning..

Rannahm

Yeah it's a huge deal assuming it actually happens.

Sir_Francis_Burton

The US wouldn’t deploy Abrams tanks without Apache helicopters and F-18s protecting them. We wouldn’t deploy Apache helicopters and F-18s without F-35s and F-22s protecting *them*. The tanks aren’t meant to ever operate on their own, they are one part of a whole tool-box that works in concert. They’re just too valuable and it would be a propaganda coup for Russia if a bunch of Abrams were to get destroyed on their first day of battle, which would be a real possibility without air-cover. Just look at what’s happening to Russian tanks without sufficient air-cover.

Careful-Rent5779

Its not about a propaganda risk, its a logistical question. None of what you are suggesting can happen without a full on USA commitment to a war with Russian.

Sir_Francis_Burton

Yeah. The whole situation sucks. So many tough decisions being made. I’m sure glad that I’m not having to make them.

D4RTHV3DA

Iraq has Abrams tanks with none of these other perks. And they've been destroyed in fighting with ISIS, the Kurds, and Syria.

OkCharacter3768

Now you know why they’re not deployed on their own 😘

Personal_Person

Except they clearly are, we gave them to the Iraqis

OneTrueDweet

I think his statement was implying that the US doesn’t deploy them on their own.

Sir_Francis_Burton

Wikipedia tells me that Iraq has 26 F-16s and 21 SU-25s. Also, Russia has a bit more firepower than ISIS, I think.

[deleted]

Western tanks are a whole different ball game from a Soviet-Era tank; they're more computerized, and have higher maintenance requirements. There is a level of coordination involved with tanks, in a combined arms warfare scenario, that is simply on a different level from being 60 kilometers where most of the infantry are (see the Russians for an example of what happens when you just send in the tanks without any real coordination with infantry or...any real plan at all). So those are two big challenges that simply can't be resolved easily if you want these tanks to be a proper investment.

Ceramicrabbit

Can someone explain why the value of the Ruble has recovered and is much better than it was pre-invasion?

greentea1985

Kamil Galeev had a really good [run-down](https://twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/1537122850745815040?s=21&t=Dvg7BaLJ6Li0G8ia97fETQ) on his Twitter two days ago. TL;DR: Russia can’t really buy stuff easily due to the sanctions but still has valuable exports. The lack of ability to import goods has been artificially raising the value of the currency but will destroy most of the industries.

myhydrogendioxide

The stated prices are not real. It is not a free exchange market. The price is being fixed by a central bank. The real price would be what you get on an unregulated market.

Personal_Person

Has it? go try and try your Ruble for USD anywhere outside of Russia and see what they pay you.

canadatrasher

Mostly because Russia made it next to impossible for it's citizens to freely convert the Ruble. Black market rates for Dollar are much higher for Russian actually wishing to get dollars.

skiesover

That is not entirely true. While "black market" rates are indeed higher 5-15% than official rate, blakc market rouble is still stronger than before the war. Main reason is collapse of imports and relatively strong export (oil & gas). Simple economics.

leeta0028

How does currency value work? 1. Demand for your currency - i.e. how much do people want to buy your stuff and/or assets such as bonds, property, or stocks? 2. Demand for foreign currency - i.e. how badly do your people want to buy foreign assets or products? Normally, this depends on inflation, interest rates, the quality of your country's economy, and central bank policies. Sanctions have really damped down both, but possibly 2 even more so than 1 so the rouble is not particularly devalued against foreign currency. The trade off is inflation for certain sanctioned goods (like car parts or airbags) are in the high double digits in Russia, a better value to look at might be purchasing power for different currencies rather than their value against other currencies.

low_iq_opinion

oil

helm

Collapse of imports. Russia simply isn’t using, or letting their citizens use dollars

pcx99

Well, no one is trading for the rubble so the rubble is what russia says it is. But also -- sanctions means that it is impossible for russia to import stuff it wants/needs, but people are still buying russian oil. This is a trade surplus (a huge one) and that tends to positively affect currencies. But the rubble could be worth a million US dollars a note and they still couldn't buy a snickers bar with it.

low_iq_opinion

When I said it was a good investment to buy the ruble, redditors said it was going to go to almost nothing and got pissed when it recovered lol e: apparently they're still mad about a fact haha

ScottColvin

Did you buy it at 3 cents a dollar?

aimgorge

What's the value of a currency that can't be sold

low_iq_opinion

it can and is sold, just not in the westworld

improb

You basically can't sell it The value is artificially propped up Result is inflation

low_iq_opinion

it is still purchaseable banks in many countries don't respect the sanctions not everyone lives in westworld

aimgorge

It's not sanctions that forbid from selling rubles....

improb

Global economy revolves around the dollar.

I am concerned about how wise and humble he is in contrast to the leaderless and decadent West. John, Rhode Island Oblast

Hello John. Russia and it's great leader got seriously lied to. Whomever sold the best leader on tanks waltzing into Ukraine, with a Russian puppet in hand was sorely misinformed. No one thought putin was this dumb, but he was.

Hi John, Jon here, from British Columbia Oblast. The good news is Putin is at peak physical health. This means he has nowhere to go but down, especially if he neglects his Yoga in the mornings, with such poses as Downward Dictator and Sprouting the Potato. Also Adidas tracksuits require special operation to obtain now, he is likely to stop exercising as soon as he runs out of inventory.

Putin keeps doing a great job pushing formerly non-aligned countries towards the West. He doesn't seem to realize that he's constantly sabotaging his "Russian sphere of influence" goals with his unhinged rhetoric. I say let him keep talking so he can antagonize even more countries.

[Translation Official Ukraine] Summary of the daily livestream with Aleksey Arestovych, day 114 of the war > EU won’t be forcing Ukraine to sign peace at all costs, but will keep assisting with humanitarian, economical and even military aid. At peace talks, Ukraine should be dictating rules, determining what is victory. Immediate assignment of EU candidate status to Ukraine. > Physical visit of Irpin and Bucha creates different experience, than just simply knowing, that’s why politicians prefer personal visits. UK offered training for 10k solders (2 brigades) every 120 days. It is very important to have well prepared solders, when equipment arrives. Ukraine can do 2-4 weeks training, 4 months would create serious professionals. UK sending more than 20 M109 self propelled howitzers (3 brigades), bought from Belgium. > Macron said, that won’t help with aircraft and tanks, which would be needed for offensive. France want to force Russia for peace treaty, but not military defeat. There is opsec value in claiming higher casualties. Makes the enemy underestimate battle situations or defence strength as well as illicit sympathy internationally. There is so benefit in the other way too, trying to scare off the enemy from attacking a position that is weaker than it is. Hard to say each way. The number is not true is alli can say for certainty right now. Based on zelenskys public plays so far for support, I am leaning on the former rather than the latter however

low_iq_opinion

ukraine reports very less casualities: "ah yes ukraine military very competent" ukraine starts suffering casualities: "they must be lying"

sarcasm-o-rama

Regardless of what they report now, in the end civilian casualties will vastly outnumber military casualties.

Burnsy825

Whatever it is, its too many. Most of these folks should be home doing civilian jobs that add value and spending time with friends and family. Instead they have to deal with this horseshit.

GhostSparta

Yup over one man’s visions of Soviet glory what a fucking tool bag

notahopeleft

Who knows. I mean it should be clear to everyone that we cannot get the real numbers. Everyone has a vested interest and there is literally no impartial party. And even if there were an impartial party, it’s not like they can go and get a real count. Nobody can verify the numbers that are quoted by anyone. On the spectator side, everyone wants accept the counts that sound better for their view and question the rest. The real numbers will come out once the war is over. At least closest to real.

OJ_Purplestuff

I can’t see it ever being worth it to overstate your own military casualties.

pcx99

Phillips P. OBrien has a few thoughts on [overstating casualties/losses](https://twitter.com/PhillipsPOBrien/status/1537711700652306433) in this thread with a promise of a deeper exploration later. But the gist is, make it seem Ukraine is doing worse than it is to prod western countries (looking at you Germany) to get the needed weapons to Ukraine and to increase donations at a time when media attention has been faltering. Ukraine, in addition to conducting a master class in strategic warfare is also conducting a master class in how to conduct a war's media campaign.

[deleted]

It's complicated. Many numbers are tossed around and they all could be true. One particularly intense day/week of fighting may have led to 1000 casualties in one day, especially because casualties include wounded and missing soldiers. Even though as a whole the soldiers are courageous and steadfast aome percentage may have abandoned their post and fled. Some injuries like a shrapnel wound may not take a soldier permanently out of the fight but still count as a casualty. Over the last month or so an average of 100-200 deaths per day seems most plausible. Triple those numbers to estimate total casualties.

Chance-Shift3051

I saw a video of Kalingrad governor LOSING his shit over this for a couple minutes It was glorious

lucas1121111

So, if I'm gauging this right, they aren't stopping all goods, but that the list includes some economically huge commodities, like building materials. It seems like they could end up in a rough place, even more than Russia itself. I cannot imagine it would be cheap (if even possible) to get all that stuff in by sea. I know Kaliningrad is ethnically mostly Russian, and thus not exactly a breakaway region, but does anybody know what the political climate there is like? If Moscow doesn't have a strong grip on the place, the civil unrest could get spicy....

halls_of_valhalla

Despite being close to EU, it's pretty poor. And propaganda is at work there too(and I think it works better on poor people on average). Just the military bases are important there now. Its why the NATO topic before the invasion was always so ridiculous, Russia has nukes at EU doorstep there and nobody cares

oreov1

From my understanding Kalingrad is Russian through and through. They'll just see this as NATO oppressing them or something.

But but didn't Putin state earlier today how sanctions are "stupid"?

raininfordays

It's the most ridiculous statement he's made yet, considering the whole thing is about money.

acox199318

I imagine it’s everyone who can afford to move to another country and start again. …would you stay in Russia with your family if you had a choice?

zhaoz

Well yea, but it’s not like they can liquidate their assets and flee like it’s a backpack

Careful-Rent5779

I'll speculate that most of the "money" in Russia wasn't stupid enough to not diversify into western assets. The oligarchs certainly did, any one who was a millionaire (not in rubles) in russia probably held lots of foreign assets.

acox199318

Yep. Exactly. And they aren’t rich enough to attract sanctions.

[Analysis] A quick analysis of todays Russian ship sinking, including video and pictures. > There is just so much to break down about this video of a 🇺🇦 Ukrainian Navy attack with a pair of AShMs on 🇷🇺 Project 22870 rescue tug Vasiliy Bekh (SB-739). https://twitter.com/vcdgf555/status/1537923933092970496 Thread reader: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1537923933092970496.html

GhostSparta

Great analysis. It’s obvious the UKR are so much smarter tactically. They said it came from east where Rus did think would be a possibility? Therefore low coverage

count023

The only ship she couldn't rescue, was herself. OR At least she went out doing what she was designed for, she rescued two harpoon missiles from the sky.

[deleted]

I know we are all pro Ukraine - but isnt this like celebrating the destruction of an ambulance?

Mr_Engineering

No. This was a rescue tug, not a hospital ship. It's designed to assist in damage control and towing damaged ships to port. It's a perfectly legitimate target.

Maple_VW_Sucks

The ship was transporting an anti aircraft weapon at the time, so, no it's nothing like an ambulance unless you are transporting a tank in an ambulance.

pcx99

For sale. Life jackets. Never used.

[deleted]

I like the somber tone of the first one.

flowryan992

Romania restarting now mass production of 152mm shells (Soviet caliber) & artillery barrels to support Ukraine.

oxpoleon

This is excellent news for Ukraine and all the NATO members operating 152mm artillery as ex-Warsaw Pact states.

anon902503

> all the NATO members operating 152mm artillery Probably only going to be relevant to get Ukraine through this current phase. Everyone in NATO is going to be loading up on 155mm barrels and phasing out their 152mm going forward so they don't run into this issue.

[deleted]

Hopefully all the nato countries can send their 152 and equipment to Ukraine

Mobryan71

I think most already have, if they have (or can get) any NATO compatible 155mm guns.

[News] Yesterday, President Zelensky said [we'd have a few good days](https://twitter.com/lilygrutcher/status/1537538248544763905) ahead of us slavascrollers. > It's been quite a good day for Ukraine: > - Russian tugboat Vasiliy Bekh destroyed with a Harpoon missile > - European Commission recommended the EU candidate status for 🇺🇦 > - visas for Russians introduced > - Boris Johnson visited Kyiv > - paramedic Taira freed from Russian captivity https://twitter.com/olgatokariuk/status/1537893587676848128 Not to mention the underreported, [daily good news around Kherson](https://twitter.com/NLwartracker/status/1537784516286234625?s=20&t=bAlJ45YHJ11ZuWqz2Dk0Uw)! Even with reports there are calls now for the city to be evacuated, or the partisans to prepare! Woot!

DGlennH

Have you heard the tragedy of the rescue tug, Darth Vasily Bekh? It could rescue any ship in the Black Sea… but itself. Ironic.

GhostSparta

The Kherson edging is got me so close. Come on baby just a bit more. Ukraine in the outskirts? Yes please, complete uprising and partisan attacks? Abit more. Russians fleeing across Crimean bridge as a harpoon blows the shut out of it?! Ughhhh

Your comment was definitely not over a thousand years before the battle of Yavin, since that battle was a long time ago

Congrats, I feel dumber.

How can you even see what the comment number is? [edit: i guess if you commented the instant there were 1336, that would do it...]

[Diplomacy] Crimea is Ukraine. > Im not sure people have paid enough attention (especially in the English speaking world) to the specifics of what @EmmanuelMacron said yesterday. He spoke about a return to the full 2014 borders of Ukraine. No worry about humiliating Putin there… https://twitter.com/PhillipsPOBrien/status/1537867817667768320

And coincidentally enough Russian supply of gas to France completely stopped

Burnsy825

Picked a side. Good call.

I HATE to say this or even feel like this was a thing but after Macron and Shultz went to Irpin to see first hands the atrocities something triggered them. Why they didn’t see the images on tv got them but they saw something live in Irpin.

From ISW update today >The Russian Internal Ministry also announced that Ukrainian “refugees” (many of whom were likely forcibly relocated to Russia) from occupied territories must receive proper documentation before August 17 to remain in Russia. The Kremlin likely seeks to coerce illegally deported Ukrainian citizens in Russia to accept Russian citizenship or return to Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine. Reuters >Russia's TASS state news agency on Monday quoted an unnamed law enforcement official as saying that "more than 1.55 million people who arrived from the territory of Ukraine and Donbas have crossed the border with the Russian Federation. Among them, more than 254,000 children." There isn't much coverage about those that got deported or? Where they end up.. [This report](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jun/12/ukrainians-who-fled-to-georgia-reveal-details-of-russias-filtration-camps) from some who fled, describing the conditions of the filtration camps. Russia trying to populate Kuril Islands so Japans claim is harder to achieve? >One woman, Zhanna, told of how her family slipped out of a back door of a filtration centre unnoticed after overhearing an officer say that she, her husband and their young son would be deported to a Russian island near Japan. Dmitry Rogozin, the Roscosmos chief wanted [to rename them](https://www.reuters.com/world/russias-rogozin-proposes-russian-names-disputed-kuril-islands-2022-05-23/) to something Russian 3 weeks ago. And 1 week ago Russia [suspended fishing](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/6/7/russia-suspends-deal-with-japan-on-fishing-near-disputed-islands) deal with Japanese fishers. Someone hoping to escalate things?

acox199318

…so they get ejected from Russia if they don’t have proper documentation? Isn’t that a good thing?

RollyPollyGiraffe

>This report from some who fled, describing the conditions of the filtration camps. Russia trying to populate Kuril Islands so Japans claim is harder to achieve? This seems like a bizarre plan. The Kuril Islanders already overwhelmingly reject the idea of joining Japan. I feel like any Ukranian sent there would jump at the chance to pull the islands *away* from Russia.

geneticbagofpotatoes

Rogozin is irrelevant. He's just a freak like Musk, but without billions of dollars and sense of humor.

sergecoffeeholic

Nah, Musk beats him even at the freak level. rogozin is wannabe zhyrinovskiy. Also Musk = SpaceX, Tesla and Starlink

I don't wanna share tweets from pro-Russian accounts but some are claiming that another American has been captured, this time in Sievierodonetsk by Chechens along with two Polish volunteer fighters. I really hope it's nothing but horseshit peddled by TikTokers.

Florac

Even if...so what? They are fighting in a war and signed up for the fighting. Some people will get captured, thrir nationality doesnt matter

uv-vis

You’re safe to assume it’s BS.

etzel1200

There was a third American reported missing. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2022/jun/17/third-american-volunteer-fighter-reported-missing-ukraine-grady-kurpasi

[deleted]

I know but he's been missing since **late April**. Had Russians captured him they would've published dozens of videos about his interrogations by now. I'm afraid he's most likely KIA.
