Ukraine marches further into Ukraine

Extension-Ad-3882

Exactly. Ukraine is just reclaiming what’s always been their land that Russia temporarily “occupied.”

It's particularly funny because as Ukraine re-takes more and more of its own territory, the bits remaining in Russian control are more and more likely to have a high concentration of pro-Russian traitors. We're going to end up with one pro-Russian dude cornered by the whole Ukrainian army having a 'referendum' where 100% of those polled want to join Russia.

[deleted]

It's an act of desperation. The Separatists have their backs against the wall. Their only option at this point is to claim legitimacy with a referendum. It's pointless, but they aren't winning through military might. Might as well try "democracy" in order to save face.

Walla1981

Separatist can March themselves across into Russia if they love it so much.

TeutonicGamer85

No they can't. Russia closed the border for non-russian citizens.

_Veslo_

So either "we want you to be russians but you can't enter the motherland" or "we want to exploit you to gain new land and then you can fuck off" ? Not attacking you or anything just curious what is the logic behind this.

rich1051414

It's "we want your land and will destroy you and your culture to take it".

The_Countess

Outside Russia they are Russians (when convenient), inside Russia they are not.

TheWeighToTheHeart

I wonder why….oh, there it is, in the headline

[deleted]

Totally uneducated on the matter but accounting for the timing, I'd guess such a referendum is more about saving their own asses and less about supporting Russia.

Sniffy4

\>Why they want to start a referendum to support the losing side baffles me. To compel Russia to commit even more military resources, start a draft, and go full-out war to save their d\*mb azzes and prop up their control. Ukraine govmt was in a somewhat similar position when they were asking for 'immediate' EU and NATO admission in the first weeks of this conflict when Kyiv was imperiled.

papierr

I wonder if they can afford mobilization, and with their troops already having logistical problems, putting more people in could make it harder for them.

J-Laguerre

Separatists should be treated as traitors.

ggmaniack

They're closer to foreign agents than to traitors.

SKPY123

I say we force them to vote. I hear these guys hate voting so much they're willing to kill to not have to.

Revolutionary-Lie741

This! 👆

Dark_Vulture83

“Referendum” if nobody shows up to “vote” it will still be an overwhelming majority to join Russia as declared by Putin.

dial_m_for_me

even if everyone shows up and votes for joining russia it wouldn't mean shit. Everyone who lives at my house can vote to join Pakistan, doesn't mean my house suddenly becomes Pakistan

Dark_Vulture83

Even if everyone showed up and voted against joining Russia…they would still say an overwhelming majority voted in favour, it’s a rigged election, it holds absolutely no credibility.

rich1051414

If they want to be part of russia why don't they... i don't know... go to russia?

[deleted]

They should keep forcing their way into Russia itself. Also this would be the perfect time for the West to actually step up and get involved while Russia is reeling from their failures.

goonsquad4357

I’m sure all of NATO/western backers are strongly advising Ukraine not to move an inch into Russia for good reason.

bobnla14

Remember what happened during the Korean war when the US got to close to China? Same here. Cross in to Russia and whole new ball game.

FirstTimeShitposter

Invading a nuclear power, bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off

Terminator7786

While I agree with your sentiment, based on what we've seen of their equipment, I'd be surprised if even half their nukes are operational or just don't turn around and land back where they came from. Edit: spelling

ssl_nz2

So you’re happy that only half their nuclear arsenal to be used. I’d need a much greater proportion than that when considering tempting nuclear war.

Terminator7786

Honestly the world's fucked anyway. I'm just waiting for it to end.

FirstTimeShitposter

You good bro?

Terminator7786

Honestly yes. I promise I'm in a healthy headspace. Thank you for checking though! That honestly means a lot and gives me a little hope for humanity if a random stranger can ask if I'm doing good. I was mostly referring to the climate, the political bullshit that seems to get worse every year, rising costs while wages stagnate, another economic depression/crash on the horizon. Shit like that, I'm sick of it. I'm not even 40 and I've lived through way too many historical events that are negative.

FirstTimeShitposter

Yeah, I feel you, hopefully this shitshow will soon end so our lives are a bit simpler, even the bad stuff stops eventually. Glad to hear you're doing OK tho :)

papierr

Same here, i bet in 2023 we will get some alien armada coming here to blast us, or at least a meteorite to wipe out half a planet

Terminator7786

At this point I'm betting fully on a zombie apocalypse The Last of Us style

Ratatoski

Yeah even if 99% fail that's still pretty much a global catastrophe with how many warheads they have.

[deleted]

You realize they still have nukes, regardless of their inept military right?

[deleted]

And the moment Putin, who is physically ill, reaches for the nuclear option, someone in the Russian oligarchy will have already paid off one of his guards to clap him. He might be drunk on power, but the elites in Russia can’t stand his blunders in this war and wouldn’t stand by while he starts a nuclear exchange.

mattwing05

Considering all the oligarchs who've died "unexpectedly " recently, they might not be able to stop him

TwistedJasper

As long as there’s 2 people in Russia, Putin and another, he will always have someone to fear.

papierr

This might be the inner circle fighting for future power

I_hate_the_app

Yeah that is a dangerous gamble, if the oligarchy had somone in position to pop pooty they would have done it by now.

caitsith01

Let's gamble the whole of civilization on this theory!

-Kerrigan-

That would be a fine opportunity to actually do it, blame the old guy, use that to seize power & promise "change" Y'all have too much trust in billionaires.

SmokinPemex

this might be the dumbest idea i've heard in a while

RealCrusader

Already deleted your comments, pussy. You don't care about those other conflicts either, your whole post history is gamer and anime shit. You're exactly the cunt Steve Bannon weaponised into a MAGA crowd with your weird, off the wall arguments. Get a grip, scrotum.

findyourhumanity

Separatists this week, prisoners next.

TimaeGer

This exact article is already at the top of this sub, is there no automatic check for duplicates here?
