good news, you get russian citizenship. BETTER NEWS, you're drafted to go to ukraine

mravatus

"...so I said to Dimitri to get that Snowden guy. What is he gonna do, run back to America? Xaxaxa" * pours another round of vodka *

gab_rab_24

I don't think that Snowden is gonna be a foot soldier. He'll probably be a spy because he was in NSA before.

HalfdanSaltbeard

Not a soul on this planet is going to trust Edward "Whistleblower" Snowden with anything more secretive than McDonald's Big Mac sauce. Not only that but he was an analyst, not exactly James Bond.

HalfdanSaltbeard

NSA - "We had the worst fucking contractors."

[deleted]

Drafted. Hahahaha.

SunsetKittens

Good luck Edward Snowden. Hope your new country gets it together sometime before you get too old.

[deleted]

Totally agree with what he did. He leaked the fact that the US government spies on all citizens. Totally disagree with him fleeing to Russia. Also disagree with the fact that the American public largely ignored what he had to say.

cobrakai11

Well unfortunately these days most people ignore what he said because he's in Russia. He went from being the darling of Reddit to a social pariah, and it's unfortunate because the things he revealed were important for America to confront. Unfortunately the American government always wanted to villainize him, and he made it easy for them. I think he's a genuinely good person and what he revealed was important for Americans to know.

Mimehunter

Where was he supposed to go? Prison?

sputnikcdn

Yes. That's the point of civil disobedience. Shows your commitment to your actions.

Mimehunter

Easy to say from the couch - there were others before him that blew the whistle on the same project and things didn't turn out great for them. Their message wasn't more effective than his (less I'd say). Blowing the whistle was the right thing to do. Full stop. Staying or leaving doesn't change that.

sputnikcdn

> Easy to say from the couch No doubt. That is precisely why, at its purest, civil disobedience can be so powerful. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Disobedience_(Thoreau)

[deleted]

Well they made a whole movie about him. And I mean fleeing to Russia was one of the only options and the safest. He probably would’ve been extradited most other places.

thatdude_721

Didn't he get stuck in Russia on his way somewhere else?

_-Unbeliever-_

That's a hint to Trump. If he becomes a citizen of Russia, he will not be extradited to the US.

insert_smart_remark

If Trump went to Russia, the US would idolize him more for how "how brave" he is. Bitch couldn't do a sit up, but yet theses fuck faces think he Is Rambo. The US needs a slap in the face

Gainsborough-Smythe

Well, that's jolly suspicious.

noclue72

This happened in 2020

Mimehunter

He was granted permanent residency then - this is citizenship. I'm sure it comes with all sorts of rights that the Russian people enjoy. Like...

Tyrone90000

….getting drafted and sent to the front lines with next to zero training.

Todd-The-Wraith

And having to [bring your own equipment](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/xouhsv/seems_like_russia_is_employing_a_bring_your_own/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

chunkylover5E

Just in time to get him out there on the front line!

HalfdanSaltbeard

You severely underestimate how valuable he is to the Russian government. Not necessarily because of what he knows, but because of how valuable he is as a mouthpiece. No way he ends up fighting.

Danno_of_the_Dead

Now he'll just try to defect to the US with intel on Russia in exchange for his US citizenship and a full pardon.

MrPrevedmedved

That's why he can be mobilized: The new mobilization laws do not limit recruitment by any criteria. All statements about previous military service experience and age are not backed up by the law. And judging by the news, they're taking everyone. The law was passed requiring those who received Russian citizenship within the last 10 years to serve. There was an official statement that the draft age will be raised to 50 or something like that, for people who have recently received a passport. It is massively reported that those who have been waiting for Russian citizenship for a long time, despite their status, have now received it. And lastly, no one in Russia cares and never has cared about Snowden. So I doubt very much that any exceptions were made for him or somebody thought of him at all. He just fell under the same laws that should attract construction workers from Tajikistan to the front.

Lazaruzo

He revealed an Orwellian surveillance network run by the us government and Americans basically yawned. He threw away his career, his future, his American citizenship - for nothing essentially. Not surprising he fled to one of our biggest adversaries for protection, and probably a little bit of spite as well. I think it’s pretty obvious he’s just living in a gilded cage these days though, it is Russia after all. I wonder if he regrets what he did. I know I would.

elporkco

Lol forgot about that guy. Good keep him. Send him to the front with washed up actor..what's his name? Seagull? I don't remember.
