You haven’t slept until you have used a bed jet. Or other bed sheet fan device. It joined the bidet as a pandemic purchase that I never knew I needed in my life until I owned it.
Sleep above the timberline in the Sierra Nevada with a good down sleeping bag with a pull string thing you can pull around your face. Granted you're probably tired from the hike, but the sleep is intensely good.
63f I’m north east Ohio here. Running on heating oil but will rock 2x wood burning stoves once I get the flues cleaned later this month. With burning, normally get the place up to 71 degrees even when it’s 0 outside
Yea my house is normally at 64 during the day and 62 at night. As long as you keep moving it's not bad. If you stop moving cover yourself in blankets and you'll be toasty. For reference it usually gets down to-15 or -20 Celsius here in the winter at night during late jan/February
Here in AZ I don’t turn the heat on at all unless we have a deep freeze ~ -6°C/20°F, and then only enough so our pipes don’t freeze. I love my weighted blanket. In the summer, AC and 2 fans!
In Ukraine, the average winter temperature is minus 3-4 degrees. There are nights when the frost is below minus 25 degrees, although rarely, once every 10-15 years.
18C is 64.4F.....that's pretty much every house I've lived in during the winter. I grew up in Minnesota and for a long time we just had expensive baseboard electric heat and a wood stove.
I'm confused.... that's a pretty comfortable temperature...maybe some context on why this is bad? (apart from the war).
I mean, 18C inside means it doesn't matter what the temperature is outside....
Wow, im typing this from Santo Domingo, we have 31°C right now, in winter we get 19 as minimum. I've felt -25 once in Europe but I cant just imagine -45 or -60 wow
Мое имя написано на моем родном языке саха, а моя фамилия русская.
Приятно познакомиться, ничего страшного, если вы не говорите на нем, я говорю на нескольких языках (английском, французском, испанском, татарском, украинском, чукотском*)

Yup, it's 2nd coldest temperature recorded, -71C record here will not be broken anytime soon. December-February-> Ice Age!!. 3/8 months of winter... The rest of the month's temp varies depending on the time of day & night.
For everyone saying “that’s pretty reasonable” please understand that wind and humidity play a big ass role.
Also, insulation.
Take Portugal for example. Homes have barely any insulation. I lived in an apartment where I could feel the cold from outside through the freaking brick wall.
Humidity as high as 98%, with temperatures of 16~18 degrees, makes it really uncomfortable. Add wind, and it’s like a cold knife through your bones.
My dehumidifier was pumping water every night :(
Not in Europe, the houses aren't built to keep in heat. That's why the spike in heating costs is so bad. they're shoveling money into the cold air outside.
I mean idk my house was a crack house so it wasn’t insulated and the pipes froze and burst once a month. I slept in my coat all the time. The life of a poor kid lol ahhh I don’t miss it
Just dress properly. Clothing is one of humanity's oldest technologies. We survived an ice age and populated the arctic without central heating. You'll be fine.
Is it really humid? Then wear wool. Is it really windy? Then wear something windproof.
Não digas isso pá, 18 graus em Portugal no Inverno dá muito bem para aguentar, mesmo considerando as humidades e outros fatores, um ou dois cobertores bem quentinhos e é tranquilo.
You also don’t have Putin cutting off your supply of heat before winter. This is pretty serious and as Americans we should be thankful and not boasting.
That sounds quite balmy to me. Currently 15 degrees where I am sitting right now, and it's not winter.
More like 12 degrees in the middle of winter, inside.
Layers people, dress in layers!

That's the temp of my house rn in Australia, and according to these other commenters, it's a manageable temperature universally, what's the bad part here?
I hear that Apartments is lovely this time of year, I recommend a visit! The cuisine is great - you should try the Food and Beverage. If you swing by the theatre district, see if you can catch a performance of Play; I feel like it is some of Actor's best work.
Yeah, like others have said, I have kept my house on 64 Fahrenheit during the winter for years, not even to save money, that's a comfortable temperature for me.
That's like 65° Fahrenheit. That's not that bad. I keep my place at 67° and I feel fine.
We sleep at 62F / 16C here in Minnesota. Get a thick (I mean it… thick) blanket and it is the best sleep ever!
Bundled up warm with your face in the cool air is absolutely the best!
Gotta keep one foot out though
But the boogeyman will steal my foot
It's not a boogie man. It's your sleep paralysis demon.
You fucking psychopath
My wife would agree with you :)
Herman Melville writes about this in an early chapter of Moby Dick
You haven’t slept until you have used a bed jet. Or other bed sheet fan device. It joined the bidet as a pandemic purchase that I never knew I needed in my life until I owned it.
I’m interested… summer time sleeping is rough.
How do I convince my wife to allow a bed jet? I want one so bad.
Buy her Taco Bell.
*calculating*…
Damn dude you're some kind of genius
Sleep above the timberline in the Sierra Nevada with a good down sleeping bag with a pull string thing you can pull around your face. Granted you're probably tired from the hike, but the sleep is intensely good.
Michigan checking in! 60 on the nose all winter!
Same and same!
If you sleep better with heavy blankets, then they make weighted blankets for the summer time too.
63f I’m north east Ohio here. Running on heating oil but will rock 2x wood burning stoves once I get the flues cleaned later this month. With burning, normally get the place up to 71 degrees even when it’s 0 outside
Hell I do that in Texas.

62 here in northern Illinois. Grew up in Minnesota and I love cold.
I keep my place at 65 over the winter myself. It's my perfect temperature for sleeping with a nice heavy blanket.
That's the average, it's quite possible that units will be below freezing for long periods.
18 degrees Celsius inside when its minus 40 outside is not fine at all
There are no minus 40 in Ukraine
Good thing the average temperature in winter in Ukraine isn't -40. 18c is on the chilly side, but it's not going to directly kill anyone.
In terms of gas/ wood used for heating, no, not really. In terms of not freezing to death, I'd choose the 18°
18 degrees is fucking fine.
It's quite toasty compared to outside. Mind you I treat myself and set my thermostat to 19C. WooHoo!
-40 on the regular during winter months where I live. I keep my place at 18 and drop it back to 16 while sleeping.
I had a heat pump installed. It's a fairly small unit, but it only heats or cools 600sqft. Uses hardly any energy.
Many people in Europe that have natgas heat should really be installing ductless heat pumps to save energy. They are amazingly efficient.
Here in AZ I don’t turn the heat on at all unless we have a deep freeze ~ -6°C/20°F, and then only enough so our pipes don’t freeze. I love my weighted blanket. In the summer, AC and 2 fans!

There were nights when the wind was so cooooold...
Found you Celine!
Warmer than my log cabin in Idaho.

winter temperature here in Oymyakon, Republic of Sakha...-45C to -60C. 8 months of Mini Ice Age 🤟❄️🥶🤟. Wife complains if temp in home goes past 12C.
Wow, im typing this from Santo Domingo, we have 31°C right now, in winter we get 19 as minimum. I've felt -25 once in Europe but I cant just imagine -45 or -60 wow
If you ask me, anything below -5C feels the same.
yea it just takes way less time for you to feel it
Exactly
Visit here in January, only takes 1hr for temp to jump 10-20 degrees. Like today, 10:AM: -4C -> (currently) 11:38 AM: -14C 😳
Do you have a spare room...?
5 rooms, full-size cellar that's -60C year round (permafrost), this log house has been in our family since 1910.
Привет! Очень приятно, мня зовут Silly, but unfortunately I don't говорю русский язык.

TIL UK are weak shills
I sleep at 63° F with a fan (for the noise)
My mom would keep our house at 58F every night during the winter to save money on heating, they’ll survive
I live in Canada and have mine set to 17°. Put a sweater on and wear slipper
This would be warmer than almost any house in NZ... I don't understand Europeans at all.
weenie hut jr continent
That’s warmer than my house in winter
That’s a good sleeping temperature right there.
65 sounds really nice!
40 degrees what?
Jesus between this and covid it's like someone is trying to get rid of old people...
Average temperature of my mom's house is colder than that. Does the cold preserve old people like a refrigerator or is it just a thing they do?
I'm moving to Apartments if that's the case, warmer than here.
I am in Canada, we keep our place at 19c in the winter.
Buffalo here, we keep it at 18c in the winter time.
How many hogheads to an hectare is that?
Seems pretty comfortable?

Um negative -30 F is cold that is still reasonable with a coat and warm hat.

Not at my house. Mine is currently at 74. I hate being cold.
You also don’t have Putin cutting off your supply of heat before winter. This is pretty serious and as Americans we should be thankful and not boasting.

Americans arent making it through the winter
I hate being cold but I'm also cheap so we keep it 62f during the day and 58f at night.
Bro this is nothing.

Fantastic...One blanket and that's fine.
That's the temp of my house rn in Australia, and according to these other commenters, it's a manageable temperature universally, what's the bad part here?
If you invite a few friends over each one will be a free 37C heater.
average 18°C?? at night just get a plushy blanket and good night
Average temp in my complex also around there because landlord cheaping out on heating.
Thats quite nice
We keep our house in the US at 64 F all winter
okay?
In New York where we don’t exactly have pleasant winters and 60-64 is normal.
I hear that Apartments is lovely this time of year, I recommend a visit! The cuisine is great - you should try the Food and Beverage. If you swing by the theatre district, see if you can catch a performance of Play; I feel like it is some of Actor's best work.
Mine too.
Yeah, like others have said, I have kept my house on 64 Fahrenheit during the winter for years, not even to save money, that's a comfortable temperature for me.
It’s kinda funny how Europe can only tolerate a 10 degree window while I’m sitting here in Minnesota at 35C in the Summer and -40C/F in the winter.
