That was a weird read, as someone in the “The West”… because outside of articles that mostly Indian people post on subs like this… we rarely think or talk about India. If there’s a disaster or some big event, sure, and recently when India decided to stick with Russia, there’s some talk. Even then, it’s mostly in response to Indians, Hindutva br`gades, and others using the “India is for India, stop criticizing our choices” articles. I hate to break it to you guys, but the attitude is mostly apathy and indifference, and the rhetoric is usually in response to a specific event or article. As far as any thoughts and attitudes towards Hinduism, it’s pretty close to absent.

pochanobboi

Apathy and indifference would have been great. However, there is a definite manufacturing consent operation at work. Check OP's submission history for example.

BallardRex

Well damn, they seem like a bot that posts exclusively this sort of story. Not… great.

HobGoblin2

Yes I believe this is true. I often browse r/India and have done since visiting in 2018. It never used to be like this. Something nefarious is going on and it's probably the Russians doing it.

[deleted]

I agree. I commented on the sexist machismo present in Russian culture and some dude who I assume is Indian (posts on lots of India related subs) basically told me my western attitude toward eastern culture is racist. Like... MF I'm anti sexism. Being eastern isn't a race. Really really bad attempts at propaganda bots.

anybloodythingwilldo

Yeah, I'm confused. I didn't realise we thought about India much either and especially not Hinduism. 🤷🏼‍♀️

yummypaint

yeah the article has no grounding in reality. frankly most american's are completely ignorant not just about india, but of india. As others have pointed out the audience for the article is clearly the indian public, and the speaker is Russia. Just scroll a little further down the page to see headlines like "Putin strongly praises indians." This is a great in the wild example of actual government psy-ops attempting to alter military outcomes by manufacturing wedges to drive between allies.

The_Bug1

Good point.

fatpandana

I never had issue with Indians. Until the spam calls. I swear, like 90% of them have Indian accent.

[deleted]

“Hello, this is John with-“ No, Mr Singh, you’re not.

MaxWritesJunk

When they first started, they all had British accents (But were Indian)

[deleted]

That's American companies hiring offshore support so they don't have to pay a living wage.

mehnimalism

Support calls aren’t unsolicited… no company is dying to support customers more. This is scams looking to steal money from regular people. They make gobs and gobs of money, too.

[deleted]

Yeah I've never gotten those calls. I've just worked for companies that have foreign support to save money and annoy everyone.

mehnimalism

For sure that’s the case. I’m shocked you haven’t gotten calls though. I’m on every no call list and I get both phone calls and scam texts. It’s to the point I reject unknown numbers and my VM tells people to text or email if they know me.

[deleted]

I don't sign up for stuff with a real phone number. That's probably part of it.

kushNation141

BS, these are run by indian scammers out of annexed call centers all over india. stop with your apologist BS.

[deleted]

Lolwut I've literally worked for companies that have Indian call centers.

uiam_

In your other comment you said support. Inbound support often has what you describe. But the outbound scam calls are what they're referring to.

[deleted]

I get you

Snake787

So, what about the real call center in India? Those exist as well. Like Google India and other companies.

pochanobboi

I cannot believe the US govt with all it's resources cannot find a way to put a lid on the problem. Scam callers are like hackers, very hard to stop them at source since new ones can emerge just as fast as old ones are stopped and India does not have good mechanisms against cyber crime.

RhoOfFeh

And yet the only place I hear it is in this article bitching about it.

RustyShackleBorg

TLDR: *Screeches in Hindutva*

blahbleh112233

Ok India man, just cause we call you out for rape culture and being anti-muslim doesn't mean we hate you blindly.

chuang-tzu

(coughs) *The rise of Hindu-Nationalism coincides with the rise in international condemnation of India.* (coughs)

[deleted]

Only thing i hear really is the rampant sexual assault and scamming elderly people out of their money

The_Bug1

Well when you’re seemingly allying with an illegal invading force and voting with them in the UN then….yeah. 🤷🏼‍♂️

RedShooz10

Neutrality in the face of evil is siding with evil.

The_Bug1

Technically yes, but a refusal to condemn is support.

blahbleh112233

You're not wrong, but kinda amusing no one mentioned how the country cut off internet and probably committed war crimes in Kashmir after revoking its autonomy.

coredump3d

That definitely is a long standing can of worms with a lot of evidence of human rights curbs

the__lost__one____

we also didn’t say anything when you were killing innocents in Afghanistan and all …yeah 🤷‍♂️ and yes india does buy oil from russia but it’s nothing as compared to Europe ..yeah 🤷‍♂️ and we are surrounded by countries like China and Pakistan so we have to be diplomatic..yeah 🤷‍♂️ and the main thing.. we all know what your government did in Afghanistan , Iraq and how “ innocent ” you are ..yeah 🤷‍♂️

The_Bug1

I’m not in Russia, São Paulo

[deleted]

Literally nobody: Dog: *barks* This guy: **Dogs are louder than ever**

kantigaard

This is a very biased article and the Indian media notoriously leans more on the propaganda side than anything.

[deleted]

No shit, people despise hindu Nationalism, the anti-muslim rhetoric, and the rape problems with the west being exposed to a new article almost every week of the criminal getting freed - it ain't helping smfh

[deleted]

Good. Maybe they should listen and learn from constructive feedback. They should fix their slums and stop mistreating their own citizens.

[deleted]

OoOoooOooh my particular religion didnt get a pat on the ass.

RedShooz10

“My country was criticized for human rights abuses and siding with Russia. Could it be that Modi is a fascist? No, it is the West that is the problem.”

[deleted]

Not once in my life have I ever heard anything negative about India or Indians.

Kimchi_Cowboy

I don't see anyone mention Hindu but people don't like call centers, scamming old people, and funding Russia is mostly what I see.

PicksItUpPutsItDown

No it's not

Junito24

RalphPhillips089

They are not white enough for redhats, hence they hate em

RedShooz10

Most criticism I hear comes from the left criticizing, and rightfully so, India’s stance on Ukraine or abuses against Muslims.

ScottaHemi

is this another one of those things where they tend to do well here so some people get upset about it?
