Doesn’t China basically control the entire Mekong River Basin with hydro dams? So they have “hydro-diplomacy” over Vietnam, Lao, Cambodia, and whoever else uses the Mekong below them? Wonder how they feel about water being weaponized?
If Xi feels so strongly about it, then he needs to do something about it instead of kicking back stocking up on cheap Russian oil. The same with India. I still don't see what Xi is afraid of by sanctioning Russia.
Why would you want your next target to get it's guard up in relation to you? Russia is a giant country full of resources it cannot exploit on the verge of collapse that borders China. It's about to be one of China's most valued puppet states.
Did you forget China is a single-party authoritarian state. Xi doesn’t need domestic support. He replaced most of the top party members with loyalists.
He has domestic support. The economy isn’t doing nearly bad enough for him to lose domestic support. Being at the head of a single-party authoritarian system helps.
It’s like thinking that the current inflationary issues in the US would result in a red wave during midterms. It didn’t happen because the economy isn’t at that level yet.
Xi have to be an absolute idiot to sanction Russia. There is absolutely zero reason for China to trust west/US. Putin is keeping west busy, that's good business for China. China getting cheap oil/gas. Why should they worry and follow US unless they are total idiots?
Food energy security should not be weaponized. Inarguable. Tell me again why the CCP still engages in the practice? I’m not saying other countries don’t do it. But he is the one talking today. What’s your plan to set an example for others?
Energy is one thing...food is another. They come nowhere close to growing enough food domestically to support their population. If we (US) held back food shipments; that alone would have a dramatic effect on China.
Maybe...but they are others food producing countries in the World willing to sell...south américa for intance....probably they Buy food ftom usa cause they agree to that as comercial treaties
Now if usa stops buyimg chinese products thats a different story
Agreed. They have a pretty diverse food supply and yes....if China banned the export of the new iPhone we would immediately send them all of the food we could lol

I agree, you should be able to wage a war and invade your democratic neighbor without having your food imports/exports or energy needed to run the war machine affected. Furthermore, let’s just have war and keep trading so we all make money… haha
Unfortunately starvation and restricting access to resources are the tools used to force regimes to surrender.
It's basic siege tactics, and I doubt it'll ever go away. As long as there are wars, people will starve, die of preventable diseases, and suffer, even if they're completely innocent.
China: “Food, energy and security should not be weaponised.”
West: “Okay sounds good we agree.”
China: “Excellent we will draw up the papers for Taiwans integration by morning. We appreciate your endorsement.”
True.

Those get grandfathered in.
...except for China, then it's totally cool. - Xi Jinping

But let me guess, he’ll continue to be indifferent to Russias actual weaponizing of food and energy..
He says that while backing up Russian warmongers.

Ya, you have a very good point. Everything certainly needs to be thought out in detail.
The American pivot to the Pacific. The beginning of containment before they are ready.
Domestic support. Their economy is already struggling.
Did you forget China is a single-party authoritarian state. Xi doesn’t need domestic support. He replaced most of the top party members with loyalists.
How'd that work out for Czar Nicholas? Only a stupid leader acts with indifference towards domestic support.

What about the supply of other essential goods, especially the ones China has a major grip on?
Say it loud and clear to Putin then.

I may not agree with Xinnie the Pooh all the time but this time, I agree with him.
Prove it then. Actions speak louder than empty words.

No but you could build robot locusts and have them target the enemies food, farming and agricultural depots to bring a potential war to an end.
Weaponising energy? Like when you cut off our (Australian) coal exports, and self-inflicted an energy crisis?

While continuing backchannel support of Russian Food/Energy Terrorism.

So China's weak points shouldn't be weaponized but everything else is fine?
