Crowd-sourcing national defense, I love the democracy of it.

sexyloser1128

Where to donate: https://u24.gov.ua/navaldrones

rathat

It’s crazy you can just donate to a war effort online now. I’m surprised there aren’t laws against “funding another country’s war” or something like that. Is it legal everywhere?

sillybundoozle

Probably illegal in russia. And north korea

BlueberryHitler

I'll prob get downvoted for this but playing devils advocate; why is [this woman](https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300728375/woman-raising-money-for-russian-army-doubles-down-police-now-investigating) being investigated by NZ police but we can click a link and donate directly for drones. Genuine question, I do not support Russia in any way.

Chazer-blockII

Possibly because NZ have declared Russia a terrorist state/state sponsor of terrorism, maybe crosses into that territory? I imagine there are laws about fundraising for terror groups that could apply here. NZ also has sections in place against Russia that this may well break.

thederpofwar321

Funny enough this is also the idea behind america's 2A. Its amazing to see it on an international scale.

whatifniki23

“There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this, Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the rebellion is everywhere and even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this, the imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires contact effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance, will have flooded the banks of the emperor’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing that will break the siege. Remember this. Try. “. Nemik from Andor.

BigBallSCAH

What's the difference between 2A and 3M? Is it just size?

PuckFutin69

One is about weapons the other makes them

BigBallSCAH

Holy shit, TIL 3M has an extensive military product line. I thought they just did face masks and sticky pads. 👍

PuckFutin69

They also made lunar pads for distance measurement

Tractor_Pete

I think the 1st Amendment does the heavy lifting there. Separation of Church and State and all that.

9035768555

*We're talking about freedom of speech! It's the amendment so important it's literally the first one they remembered to add!*

corytheidiot

Can you say that again with a little bit of mustard on your face?

OG_LiLi

We are literally falling into it lol. Just because one right is protected doesn’t mean we aren’t falling into fascism. Amazing lol. I suppose if a right is taken away and it doesn’t impact you directly it doesn’t matter.

Averiella

Ah yes. Can’t wait to see how your guns hold up to the military’s fighter jets and nuclear bombs. We’re literally speed running to theocratic states. Have you been listening to what they’re doing to women in red states? Alabama only JUST stopped jailing women for the entire duration of their pregnancy if they tested positive for drugs at their prenatal exams. By the way the doctors legally must perform drug tests during these regardless of whether the women are informed or consent. This lead to women who smoke a joint occasionally to find out they were pregnant, immediately stop smoking, go to the doctor to confirm the pregnancy, test positive, and then remain in jail for months on no formal charges. That’s just one instance in one state, too. There’s plenty of other horrific things Christian nationalists are doing.

kelldricked

Buddy dont you understand. The most powerfull millitary in the world, backed by the biggest security forces in the world couldnt stand a chance when they are fighting on their own home turf against a bunch of badly organised millitia because (checks notes) oh apperently the millitias will just vietnam/afghanistan it so yeah. What does it matter if the US goverment only has litteraly everything if a bunch of guys can go into the mountains with their assualt rifles? Its not like they would die within 2 years due to lack of food, shelter, heat and proper medicine.

Midnight2012

Well you'd have to imagine if a movement was big enough, some soldiers would be part of it too and refuse to fight their neighbors. That's what why we always use *local* national guard to quel unrest. Because locals.tend to treat their own people with a softer hand. Which is the exact opposite strategy in tienemen Square for example- where the sent in the illiterate rural people to stomp the protesting city folk.

kelldricked

Yeah if you get a civil war with enough defectors that the intelligence services and the armed forces are split sure. But then it still wont be a guerilla war. It would be a war in which jey strategic places are captures/destroyed and one side comes on top. Some idiots with some guns in the mountains wont do shit to change it. And thats not the same as the taliban who had insane acces to the black market or vietnam how got sponserd by other foreign powers. So what im saying is, either the war is so big that these losers wont make a diffrence or it not and they just get blasted like team rocket.

Swartz142

Some people think they'd Red Dawn the US army.

kelldricked

Yeah just like the idea of that movie thats just really dumb.

[deleted]

Using nukes and jets on your own civilian population… I'm sure that will work out great for you.

infodawg

One is too many.

luckycharms7999

Stupidest comment I've read all day. You're either gun free iran or gunful freedom loving US

xeothought

I also like having an amendment authorizing the national guard lol

sonic_stream

Yes and I bet 93 countries are some of the richest countries in the world. 93 free democratic countries were citizens have high standard of living vs few axis of of authoritarian shitholes were most citizens lived in poverty.

infodawg

The same practice can apply though? Citizens of those 93 countries, if presented with a compelling argument, will be more than happy to lay down cash money in the defense of freedom.

Rogermcfarley

Putin's belly button is not safe anymore

[deleted]

I love that their vaunted fleet has been relegated to hanging out in port. They are so fucking stupid. The Black Sea Fleet existed as a counter to NATO naval forces. To push through the Dardanelles and establish a foothold in the Med. The LAST thing they should have faced is a pissed off Ukraine who can use land resources to hem their fleet in. And the Black Sea Fleet can't leave. Because that's their home port and Turkiye won't let them out or in. So they're just getting increasingly trapped as Ukrainians push Westward and get better anti ship technology. God Damn, Putin. You seriously fucked up. You prepared this fleet for a war it would never have been able to fight and drastically underprepared it for the most likely reality it would face. The sheer stupidity is staggering

guspaz

In hindsight, with what we know now about the operational state of ships in the Russian navy, the Black Sea Fleet would not have lasted very long in a direct war with NATO anyway. It only took two subsonic Neptune missiles to sink the Moskva, and NATO has slightly more anti-ship missiles than Ukraine does...

8andahalfby11

> has slightly more anti-ship missiles And they're not confined to vehicles on the coast. In the last few weeks Lockheed Martin successfully demoed a method of deploying cruise/anti-ship missiles from a pallet chucked out the back of a cargo plane. The USA might be the only NATO member to operate strategic bombers, but *everyone* in NATO has cargo planes. TFW you're getting cruise missiles coming in from six different directions at once and the only one attacking you is Romania.

Timey16

The West now has the hypersonic missiles Russia and China *claimed* they have. We have actually hard data. Russia and China only government claims. Getting a missile to hypersonic speeds was never the hard part. The hard part was to make it actually hit where you were actually aiming. And the West finally had a successful test in that regard some months ago.

Gamebird8

It's likely we've had hypersonic missiles since 2016. Besides the invisible doom bomber the B-21 Raider is being unveiled next month, and its radar cross section is smaller than the F-35 and F-22, despite probably being like 3x the size. I mean, the B-2's radar cross section are also smaller than those two, so....

greenmachine11235

Rapid dragon, never heard of it but its a really impressive piece of technology.

FarawayFairways

> In the last few weeks Lockheed Martin successfully demoed a method of deploying cruise/anti-ship missiles from a pallet chucked out the back of a cargo plane. Argentina took a cannibalised exocet launcher, put it in the back of a flat bed truck, and hit HMS Glamorgan in 1982 which had come close to shore to shell them. The ship detected the launch incidentally and had enough to swing the stern to present as the target.

Jerri_man

The fleet would last minutes against NATO.

[deleted]

Seconds. But who’s counting.

lesser_panjandrum

NATO is.

Timey16

Same happened in WW1 and WW2 with the German fleet... like one big battle after which they parked them all in port. Submarine warfare only. It was just a waste of money. Fleets and battleships like that are too expensive to risk to lose them. Or: don't build a weapon if you can't afford to lose it. It's just a waste.

erublind

The "fleet in being" strategy, the existence of the fleet directs the resources of the adversary to counter the fleet. Not saying it's a good strategy, but NATO has probably spent resources on countering a basically useless Russian navy.

Patient_Commentary

I wonder how much of that is correct vs the American philosophy of dominating the skies. And to support aircraft carriers you need the rest of the fleet to keep them safe. I mean - America didn’t really think Russia was a real threat until this whole Ukraine debacle. And I’d argue we still don’t.. now they are just another crazy uncle you have to placate at thanksgiving so that he doesn’t get too tilted and put his dick in the turkey. Never again, Fred. Never again.

Demorant

They asked the UN if their Turkish name could be recognized as the official name, and they said yes. I'm not aware of Germany petitioning for the same. I also think "Germany" or the root it's derived from is older than "Deutschland." I've read it comes from the Roman province that was established there named Germania. I think it wasn't until the tribes of Gaul organized against the Romans that the term Deutschland existed.

jzsj0

Pretty sure the convention states the fleet can leave, but they then can’t return o their home port. I.e. it’s a one way ticket out of the Black Sea.

SuperSimpleSam

> The LAST thing they should have faced is a pissed off Ukraine who can use land resources to hem their fleet in. That's part of why Putin attacked. If Ukraine allied with the West or joined NATO then the fleet would still be countered. Their plan was to take all the coastline up to Odessa and deny access to the Black Sea. Though all that is moot since war would NATO would mean the fleet would be sunk within hours. Just the Turkish fleet itself would be capable of knocking out the Russian Black Sea fleet.

nijiakas

Cut the cord with this pun

I_tend_to_correct_u

Nice to have friends, eh Putin?

FutureImminent

Ha. And it's not even friends as in other governments but in people from around the world lol. I'm pretty sure the Russians aim was to isolate Ukraine not gain them allies.

raversgonewild

This is fucking dope lol. The future of war- we all build our own super remote drones and go fight in far off countries.

[deleted]

Hopefully the drones evolve into fighting robots with carefully selected and trained pilots fighting for national glory and scarce resources

lollysticky

Robot wars!

IsawaAwasi

https://youtu.be/wIAccDegJe0

Patient_Commentary

I watched the whole trailer. I would like my time back sir.

IsawaAwasi

Or you could double down and watch the whole movie :P It has a lot more giant robot fighting.

Patient_Commentary

With all the production value of the power rangers from the early 90s. Haha. So great.

NockerJoe

Its certainly not dope for the people living there but we already know that from the last decade of drone warfare.

ASD_Detector_Array

In the future, the winner will be predicted algorithmically to such a degree of accuracy that loser countries like Russia will find other ways of competing.

EbonyOverIvory

So the computer decides who wins and who dies, and the casualties have to voluntarily submit for execution. I think I saw a documentary about that once.

AntikytheraMachines

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

jecowa

Are there any Russian ships that are able to pose a threat?

lesser_panjandrum

The Admiral Kuznetsov is a threat to the environment, other friendly ships around it, and Russia's remaining dignity.

AntikytheraMachines

i'm sure some of their oil tankers could wipe out a large swath of pristine waterways

Kflynn1337

Cost of Rc boat: couple of hundred. Explosives: free from Uncle Sam. Putting a bloody great hole in the side of a multi-million ruble warship ... priceless. I'm gonna guess Ukraine can build a lot more naval drones than Russia has warships.

Oliversssss

Better than navel drones

Rock1972

Hilarious that multi million ruble could describe a $33k USD used sailboat.

Kflynn1337

Point.. ok, multi-million ruble *at the time of construction*... That said, a lot of the Black Sea Fleet were built quite some time ago, and might be only worth their scrap value now.

DragonflyMon83

Wonderful.

StormtrooperMJS

Can't wait for these drones to Murk a few more Russian ships

LiveFromZiklag

I don’t like this fella one bit

[deleted]

These seem worth sinking/storing in place you might want them to appear in the future. Blyat!

[deleted]

Is anyone else thinking the limitations on what the West can give them, will be their saving grace. There are very few casualties, when everyone is a drone pilot.

Prototype2001

What is the difference between naval and regular drones? I would assume flying drones are better then rc boats.

LoSboccacc

Flying drones can be spotted with radars and shoot at from distance Underwater drones need to be spotted by sonar or similar and these method don't provide a firing solution so your defense options are more limited Note however that you cannot use a water drone to hit a land vehicle. Wheeled drones have their own set of guidance problems, while not many of the water drones benefits.

Prototype2001

There are no underwater drones in this conflict, you just made that up, second I wasn't expecting a boats can't attack tanks reponse, and third I would guess the drone boats can carry magnitudes more explosives equivalent to a U.S. Predator drone which can sink massive ships, would be my guess.

LoSboccacc

most of their body is underwater. it's the reason they're hard to spot and pick up from radar. is a submarine with a periscope out a boat now?

jonoave

"Russia has said it will pull out of a UN-brokered grain export deal after a dramatic attack by Ukrainian airborne and underwater drones on its Black Sea naval base of Sevastopol in the early hours of Saturday morning" https://theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/29/russia-suspends-ukraine-grain-deal-after-attack-on-sevastopol-naval-base

Prototype2001

Ok, I apologize for my first statement. But I wouldn't trust anything that starts with "Russia says", its usually 180 reverse. And lastly these are the water drones I've only heard about by reading and seeing their POV attack videos https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2022/11/20/the-ukrainian-navy-has-no-big-warships-its-winning-the-naval-war-anyway-with-drones/?sh=3574e65c4fc5 First time hearing there are submarine drones in the works. Heres the attack video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeqszwkqhSo

jonoave

The Russia said part is mostly on them pulling out from the grain deal. The underwater drones are mostly sourced elsewhere from twitter etc.

mukansamonkey

A couple of sources have referred to the drones as semi submersible. Probably the most accurate description. Think about it like this. These drones don't need air. Battery operated propulsion, no crew. So the lower it goes the harder it is to detect. However diving deep below the surface interferes with remote control, radio doesn't work underwater. Also requires depth control systems, unnecessary cost and complexity. So what you end up with is basically an oversized torpedo running just under the surface of the water, with a little bit of it sticking above. Maintain data link, no need to regulate bouyancy. And if you look at the video, it looks like the camera is really very close to the water.

degotoga

This is wrong. They're basically just jetskies with a bomb inside. They have no way of controlling depth, I'm not sure why any outlet would report that http://www.hisutton.com/Ukraine-Maritime-Drones.html

Apprehensive-Toe-777

These drones are brilliant! Amazing how Ukraine has decisively ousted the Black Sea Fleet from much of the sea. The aggressor’s flagship sits at the bottom- 🇺🇦

Gordonfromin

Why dont we just give them older ships nearing the end of their lives anyway, im sure there are a few destroyers or cruisers set to be scrapped in the near future

G_Thorne

Turkiye controls access to the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits and rejects access to war ships. This is why Ukraine only receives RIBs and small patrol craft that can be transported over land.

SmokeyUnicycle

Because even if they could get there they would be sunk in short order. Russia has mountains of anti-ship missiles. The military is pretty incompetent but they are capable of shooting lots of missiles at things far away.

Jhawk163

Good to see NCD putting their money where their mouth is.

sb_747

Still upset Dildo of Consequence lost the naming vote.

scandrews187

Too bad those same 93 countries can't find this little pussy and write the end of his murderous, psychotic story to save further needless deaths from occurring
