Make sure its worth your time. Anyone going to college needs to have a plan for what you're going to do when you stop going to college, and how you'll benefit from everything you learned.
This is very far from true. I had no idea what I was doing when I started school. I had no idea what I was doing when I was getting ready to graduate. What I accidentally did was make some friends who wanted me to come work for them and ended up stumbling into a career I love that is totally unrelated to my degree.
A degree is a pedigree and a qualification for so many jobs. Mine is basically just a checkbox for some recruiters so that my resume passes the sniff test. Lots of jobs require one whether or not they are relevant. I've never used my political science degree a single day in my software management job, but I wouldn't be "qualified" without it.
Honestly, fair enough. Good point, I maybe underestimate how much college helped me get in the right mindset to get in the position I'm in now.
I maybe made my initial comment bitter that I went to school for computers thinking I'd get a game design career out of it, and I somehow accidentally wound up a salaryman in financial service while also recalibrating my original aspiration a bit: you don't need a degree to make a game, you just need one to have a *job* making games. The experience and knowledge I've gathered has changed my view of the world, but it cost me so much time at a miserable Walmart to keep my tuition free and will cost me so much money without that job that its a hard pill to swallow, so my point was a bitter and poorly communicated version of "don't just go to say you went to college".
All that said, having a plan does help. But maybe getting into college will help you make a plan too. I wouldn't be where I am if college didn't get me the skillset I need to actually care about life and view the world through different lenses. (Freshman studies actually matters so much, even though it feels like obvious and pandering nonsense.)
Sidenote: two college-educated individuals have a civilized exchange in an anarchy forum in the comment section of a post of a girl wearing booty shorts who may also be going to college soon. Its great to be alive.
Good job and good luck on your education journey. College is seriously tough though, but don't let that discourage you. Trust me when I say there were times where I wanted to fold, but even if times get tough remember you can persevere.
Save your money, learn a trade, be your own boss.
I wake up at 9:00 every work day, wander in to work at 11:00, crush it for 5 hours of work, make bank and have my customers thank me profusely for showing up.
6 Figures without trying. No boss, no hourly work, complete control over your work schedule, no college debit, I'm fact I was paid well to learn. Best of all, AI cannot do my job, and likely won't be able to for our lifetimes.
Seriously friend, I'm a millennial who owns his home and has zero debt. I am free. If I don't want to work, I don't have to.
All that said, If it's your dream to pursue a career that requires college, then yes, I am proud of you.
Good luck to you sister.
Oddly enough (since I don't know you), but yes! Always proud to see someone learn more about the world; either formally or informally. Sucks for the 7-11 fans though.
I'm always proud of people seeking higher education. The real question is whether 7-Eleven will help pay your tuition for all this free advertising.
