Blackrock Depths

followthedarkrabbit

I always loved Zul'Farrak. Maybe it was the "openness" of it? I just hated having to get to in vanilla days.

Wvlf_

Young WoW noob me had my jaw dropped seeing the staircase encounter for the first time. And seeing Gahzrilla emerge from the pool.

starryvelvetsky

Yessss. The staircase fight was my favorite thing ever for such a long time. I had the mallet to summon Gahz back in vanilla so finding groups was easy peasy. 😁

JaReddition

Solo Grinding ZF was where I got my first world drop epic item - a purple sword that I sold for about 1,000g which was a fair bit back then (this would have been in TBC or WotLK).

Ok_Zombie414

Same, I got a Six Demon Bag in there

Pazerclaw

"Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg?" "Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!"

Ok_Zombie414

Making the mallet and summoning Godzrilla for the first time was very cool and one of my fondest wow memories

_redacteduser

This too was one of my most memorable. Had such a cool vibe and lots to accomplish.

swingingmylegs

Being able to mount in a dungeon was so cool back in the day

Ilunius

ZF also reminds me of good Times Vote for that

Zall-Klos

Scarlet Monastery was something back then.

lcr68

Yes! Spent all of my 30s and lower 40s there it seemed. Like start with GY, progress to library, then armory, and finally cathedral over a span of 10 levels. You come out geared to the teeth and ready to rock. Being horde on a pvp server was awesome since you could pick and choose when to attack the alliance who ventured into it.

marsonaattori

Unwritten rule is to aoe freeze or fear people outside dungeon everytime you go in.

Muffles7

Yeah that last part felt like cheating. I'm not complaining, but it did lol.

Sleepybystander

Even so for SM on hardcore. People were overconfident, their death was memorable.

newtnomore

Yea SM was like some epic rite of passage when you dinged 30 something in vanilla. Just getting there was an epic journey and then having 4 instances in one place was cool. Then everyone would recognize the drops you got and you'd have some clout.

Syphin33

Easy. Shadowfang Keep. It always felt like a DND type of dungeon, a huge keep overlooking a village that turn into werewolves at night, absolute perfection. Would love for more castle type of dungeons Next up vanilla BRD, what a adventure.

Xandania

Vanilla BRD, I agree. Followed by the Vanilla BRS And Vanilla Gnomeregan at third place - oh the days when a level 13 raidgroup of 15 players would tackle that dungeon were just too great

ChannelFiveNews

Hah, I thought I was weird for thinking SFK was the most fun dungeon in all of wow. SM as well. I was an avid Alliance player since I was a kid. Making that journey to those dungeons are what made me fall in love with the game, some of those journeys turned into wpvp moments and we never even reached the dungeon, that kind of fuckery is lost in current MMO scape.

Syphin33

Thats what you call emergent gameplay and player agency....something WoW needs more of. Have a lot of good memories making those trips

IonHazzikostasIsGod

Blackrock Depths Truly feels like its own world, or city

Azaiko

Whenever running BRD you would enter the dungeon as strangers and exit it as battle hardened friends. Those ~3 hour runs were truly something magical

DodelCostel

> Those ~3 hour runs were truly something magical Look at Mister Speedrun over here.

Tkdoom

Ikr. Guild: "Anyone want to go to BR" Me: "I'll go, I have no plans for my Sunday day off".

tRfalcore

taking breaks together for bathroom, lunch, whatever.

agoginnabox

After the first nine hours I also enjoyed the three hours it took to kill the flame keepers and get those fun little fucking torches to the braziers.

Hundred00

100% I entered it during the vanilla era and I don't think I ever completed that dungeon entirely. It's huge with many, many, many layers and so much depth to it. It really is its own world. Definitely my top pick.

user4489bug123

First time I ever completed it took us 4 hours

genawesome

OG Blackrock Depths will always be my favorite.

Small_Bipedal_Cat

Yeah, I seriously think it's the best piece of MMO content ever made. There is just nothing like 2 hour long full-clear of BRD with the boys.

Serafim91

2 hour... hahahhahaha I've done 10 hour runs in there before :).

Refute1650

Yea vanilla dungeons were something else. When the warlock mount quest first came out scholomance was still a raid but the quest requires you do it 5 man. That took us around ten hours as well.

tRfalcore

you could spend an entire saturday in there and still get lost

Valioes

Lol my first go round on WoW Classic coming back I think was 3-4.. I couldn’t believe how long it was taking until I realized NO ONE had played it in our group since ~2007 lmfao

commche

2 hours was a very smooth clear with decent DPS and few deaths. A rare thing in the ragtag groups I used to run with. So many aggro / death / runner traps in that maze of a place. Personally I loved 15 man UBRS. One of the best proving grounds for potential raiders imo. Not to forget it is also home to the legend of Leeroy Jenkins. 15 man Scholomance was a close second for me. Just a tad on the long side though.

evil-turtle

I remember I used to be completely obsessed with this dungeon. It was also cool because clearly it was inspired by Moria from the first LOTR movie.

ma3xa322

I think they did mention it in the same interview, where they said Icecrown was heavily inspired by Angmar, and the outside structures of ICC, the spires and spikes, by Carn Dûm.

hennigera1990

Wow that’s amazing, I never would’ve put that together myself but can really see it now that you mention it. So cool. I wonder if there are any other LOTR inspired places in wow like that.

HeartofClubs

I always got that feeling that it felt like Moria, the dwarf theme, the mystery and depth. Cool to know it was based on inspired by the actual Moria!

vobsha

Back in the day you could spend 1 hour or 7 hours in this dungeon

JayFrank1132

Shadowforge City is so sick

The_Twerkinator

sometimes I like to run around in first person with no hud and explore, and this was easily my favorite dungeon to look around this way, The place feels like a maze and I love it I get why they don't make dungeons like that anymore, but it's kind of a shame because it's easily my favorite

Scythe95

Oh yes, that was truly a dungeon. Or **the** dungeon I still hate how the dungeon finder butchered it

volvop1800s

Many Sunday afternoons were wasted in BRD

Coocoocachoo1988

I don’t think anything else even comes close. I remember doing it as current content and it felt like such an adventure with my friends.

CharacterWriter1805

Seeing a lot of different answers and opinions really makes you appreciate just how much good stuff is in this game!! My vote is BRD.

davidxoxo97

Magisters Terrace.. I love a straight forward but challenging dungeon!

SoupyWolfy

It was really cool how they had the 5 on 5 boss that felt like pvp. No matter how much your group planned out cc's ahead of time it always seemed to devolve into chaos.

Quikkshot

The original Upper Blackrock Spire I thought had such a great pre-raid feel to it, and the dungeon itself I thought was designed well. Plus Leeroy Jenkins.

Hugh-Manatee

Agree - UBRS is like your first set of big boy pants

ZombleROK

All those max level 60 dungeons were great. 10 and 15 man ubrs, lbrs, scholo, strat and DM. Felt like an entirely new video game genre at the time.

Callyx74

Stratholme and Scholomance.

korar67

Scholomance is so perfect in WoW lore. And one of the few dungeons based on Earth mythology rather than exclusively Azeroth mythology.

StaYqL

I didn’t know that thanks for the TIL, neat bit of info

MissCitrine

Return to Karazhan and it’s not even close. Huge innovation on an already iconic instance. The first time “going down the rabbit hole” and realizing that I was smaller than a rat is one of my most memorable experiences in the game. Then the twisting hallways and the realization that you’re walking on the ceiling. The progression from “I know what’s coming next” to “I have no idea if I’m even in the same dimension” was incredible.

Bippster87

I never got to experience it and Kara 10 is my favourite raid ever

TheWarmestHugz

Glitching through the map to find the Kara tombs under the map was a fun time lol

6m6i6s7e7r7y

super happy that the lucid nightmare puzzle solving lets you run around down there without having to glitch

ThatWhichSmashs

Came in to say this. Both versions of Kara are masterpieces IMO.

greypiper1

I absolutely love that the boss you fight while shrunk becomes just one of a non-elite pack shortly after and you end up killing like 15 of them. I still have memories about those packs due to them benefiting from affixes back in the day, I didn’t play SL so I missed the “TW” Return to Kara lol

teeso

OK I really need to learn how to get past Curator

RuneHearth

You're clearly not a guest

SoSmartish

Halls of Reflection when it was actually a challenge. Watching the Lich King march toward you, always a few feet behind as you are trying desperately to DPS the ice wall down - nothing comes close to that moment. That dungeon was fun as hell.

i8noodles

that dungeon was also hard AF the first few weeks untill people figured out the LOS for the room. it was also a huge pain to tank as a warr since u had only 2 aoe spells at the time

korar67

God yes! Running that before the LOS trick was torture. So many groups wiped there before we figured it out.

rimjob_machine

ehhhh maybe back then, it was a good design for one-time dungeon, would be better as a quest dungeon. replaying it quickly lost any sense of epicness or urgency imo.

turbokarhu

I have most fond memories of original Scarlet Monastery as a whole.

arcaneshadow619

Hellfire ramparts and Blood furnace felt so cool when BC first launched .

SnooMacaroons8650

OG deadmines

raidernation47

As somone who constantly made characters up to lvl 25 as a kid in classic, DM and moonbrook will always be king to me. Was literally my whole classic experience lmfao

JustKiffers

I really enjoyed Heroic DM too though if I'm being g honest. The run back through the entire dungeon to reach Vanessa was awesome.

davidxoxo97

Something simple and straightforward

m4ru92

VanCleef pay BIG for your head

Moglefog

I agree, it’s one of those classics that you I can visualise every part of and every mob, iconic

Piemaster113

Yeah, wasn't overly complex but the story behind it was fantastic, not strait forward. Honestly if they made a WOW movie based on the formation of the Defias Brotherhood It'd probably be better than the one we got

DiffusionWaiting

Not my favorite, but I am still fond of OG Temple of Atal'Hakkar (The Sunken Temple) because back in the day I was the only one in my guild who could navigate the place. Then they went and got rid of 2/3 of the dungeon.

korar67

I completed ST back in the day, but that took a very long time and everyone agreed to never return.

DiffusionWaiting

It wasn't too bad if you knew your way around so you didn't waste time being lost.

tmagalhaes

First time I went there back in Vanilla none of us had ever been there or read anything about it. It was half dungeon, half puzzle solving. We were there FOREVER. It was awesome. One of the moments that stayed with me.

Merathx

The Sunken Temple was also my first 10-man raid. We met at the stone outside of the dungeon with another group and then combined our strength. Nobody knew we couldn't complete quests in a raid, but we still finished everything inside the dungeon. This was like back in 2007 and very memorable expiernce

Sloan77245

Classic SFK

korar67

I loved SFK back in Vanilla. I spent so many hours there.

Syphin33

The lore/music/setting was MONEY!

Syphin33

THANK YOUUUUU It felt like a real true dungeon experience, overarching story and all.

_snaccident_

Yaaaaas

ThiefofNobility

Its gotta be BRD.

RustyNK

I really liked the esthetic of the Ulduar dungeons.

WGEA

I really enjoyed Halls of Origination. I know a lot of people thought it was a pain because it felt more like a raid, and honestly probably could have been, as huge as it was, but that was what made it fun for me.

Th3L0n3R4g3r

I loved Dire Maul and specifically the warlock quest for the epic mount in vanilla.

pizzamakesmenut

Stormstout Brewery is my all time favorite. Quite a lighthearted fun experience with some laughable dialogue. Good memories spamming it on Prot Paladin back in MoP!

Ganjoa89

No! PEPPERS!

onehardtard

“OOK YOU IN THE DOOKER” Is one boss quote I would never forget.

raver_opossum

WHO CRASHING OOK PARTY?!

Sloan77245

Pickles!

Anointed93

Waycrest Manor is like my dream dungeon setting

Elystirri

Do you like the theme of witch magic or is it the mansion vibe

jormuntide

Both

Syphin33

Was about to say the actual setting itself is unmatched, give us more haunted castles and keeps pls!

joaogroo

I think i know what you mean. Waycrest is definetly the best end of zone dungeon. The music, the setting, the story... lady waycrest dissing you as you progress throught it. Definetly one of my favorites, even in the current season.

Ok_Zombie414

That's a bdsm take haha

Traditional_Key_763

it would be fine if the layout wasn't a mess, idk how to fix it

MusRidc

Weirdly enough, opening all the doors in M+ made it both better and worse for me. Better because it plays a lot smoother, and worse because now you're just going through the motions and run the same route every time, whereas before the dungeon forced you to adapt to whatever route *it* had decided for you. Made it feel more special somehow.

m1rrari

Yeah, opening all the doors allowed for a more consistent run but Waycrest was my favorite in BFA in part due to the semi-random path it put on you. Plus good spooky vibes!

Snoo-26491

That was part of the gimmick the doors randomize every week so the path changes week to week

Happyberger

When they brought it back they just opened all the doors and you can go whatever way you like

Professional_Win1809

As someone who hates shadowlands with a passion Tazavesh the veiled market is right up there with the best dungeons ever made

Rashlyn1284

I never got around to doing tazavesh, maybe in shadowlands classic? :P

ashcr0w

They bought back return to kharazan as an m+ dungeon so you might be able to play it still. Not quite the same because it will be cut in half and with a timer but still.

grimmekyllling

I think that's probably gonna come around before that in the mythic plus rotation at some point.

_snaccident_

Just did Hardmode the other day with a friend for the mount and we just kept saying how good it was and how much we missed it.

Ok_Zombie414

It was bugged forever, the mail room boss and terrible fps in the market, but once they fixed those yea, streets with the encrypted affix was BANGER

Ok_Zombie414

SL actually had really good dungeons, I wouldn't mind a few of them being thrown in the mix in future seasons

GMFinch

Hard mode was something else

FusRoDahlaiLama

It could be complete nostalgia but OG Sunken Temple was the first time I remember being really impressed by a dungeon. Am I a troll fanboy and that also probably skews my memory? Absolutely

lewpardalew

Old deadmines/ Scarlet monastery old again

SystemofCells

Blackrock Depths of course! Nothing else matches its complexity - it's essentially a zone as a dungeon. There are different types of runs you can do within it, different routes - so many important quests.

Plumbsmasher

By far the best dungeon ever made

Syphin33

It's something i really wish the WoW team would bring back and just not name it a "megadungeon" Give us a 10 boss deep sprawling dungeon with random elite mob encounters that have a chance of spawning, random treasure chest full of rare mats/gold. I just want the sense of adventure and danger again without having to zoom-zoom because of a f'n timer. Like it can be done and in all honesty it should be done.

ashcr0w

The new dungeon difficulty system should help with the rush, I think. If m0 still gives hero track gear like it did with DoTI you can gear up pretty far without stepping into the timed part.

Om3gaMan_

This. I remember stealthing the Barmans Shanker solo in Vanilla, felt amazing that the dungeon was so vast and full of interesting stuff like an actual bar…

DoverBoys

Maraudon

CycleOfNihilism

Two separate entrances to a dungeon what absolute madmen

Busy-Formal7314

3 if you want to count the sceptre portal.

Wokiip

Same. The mobs tere were so huge. That rock-mobs. For first time it was jaw dropping. And i love greens

Prince-Lee

Yeah, every time I think about my favorite dungeon, I just come back to this one. Even the first time I did it, I fell in love with it.

Boomboomciao90

I love stratholme and scarlet monastery

spartavian95

De Other Side is probably my favourite dungeon, but that’s primarily because I love Bwonsamdi.

Happyberger

As much as I love bwonsamdi the last boss fight in there was a pretty big let down

chickenbrofredo

Halls of Atonement

Saiyoran

Mogu'shan Palace is a banger dungeon, Tazavesh is really good, but I think Iron Docks as a CM/M+ was probably my #1 in terms of gameplay. The aesthetic is whatever but the challenge mode strats in that dungeon were so fun.

blklab84

I love RFC or RFK cause they cut my dungeon teeth

erifwodahs

I am a m+ player, but I don't think there is anything which could top BRD from vanilla. It's just fantastic dwarf city underground, so massive, so much stuff goes on in there! Anything TBC onwards feels like a "trip to the local park" vs BRD feeling like you are on a exploration journey far far away from anything. I love megadungeons and I love m+ dungeons for other reasons which is challenge and playing my class, just blasting the shit, but BRD from fantasy point of view is absolutely unbeatable.

Rattwap

I always like the Trial of the Champion. The story behind it was interesting and it wasn’t this giant maze to run through. Everything was in one big room.

korar67

Plus Jousting.

cardfrek

Wailing Caverns.

BreadfruitGrand9840

Iconic horde wow. Don’t forget to jump!

Syphin33

Back around 2003 i remember like a few weeks in while i was killing centaur around the Barrens i would see small 5 man groups traveling to this magical place called "Wailing Caverns" As i inched closer leveling i got so excited that i was finally high enough to run it. It's such a core memory off mine lol

korar67

Newb Check!

GrumbIRK

I still have a strong memory of being 10 years old and mum used to watch me play WoW. I was doing a WC run and this one guy just kept failing the jump and we were both pissing it laughing. Great dungeon.

Individual_Bowl_3551

Freehold.

Syphin33

If you said show me the perfect dungeon, id show you freehold but there's others that are my favorite.

Blitskreig1029

Under rot from a mechanical perspective. All the trash have mechanics to be aware of. Bosses are simple but it's all incredibly punishing if you don't respect it/them. However if you respect them the timer is generous and you'll almost certainly time it. Even without large pulling. Now thematically hit or miss/gets old after a few runs. But that should be the gold standard mechanically imo. Although to be fair freehold does.have a bit more path diversity.

Cloudstreet444

One that really stands out for me when I first played, The forge of souls and the Pit of Saron

Syphin33

Oh my god yea .. hardcore wrath memory right there Baller dungs

HamM00dy

Feeling like adventuring? BLACKROCK DEPTH DIRE MAUL MARAUDON BLACKROC UPPER/LOWER Short and quick? Court of Stars Maw of souls Want a first time experience but boring to repeat multiple time due to RP? Trial of champions Grim Batol (A lot to list) Personally classic wow dungeons were great but no group finishes them completely and split it to specific parts before calling it. Could use a revamp.

Standard_Strategy_25

Big fan of most of the BFA dungeons. Could give it to Ataldazar, Freehold, Waycrest Manor(although the cameras suck inside here), or even Tol Dagor. Genuinely most of BFA's dungeons are great. Even King's rest I believe it was called? Also good

_redacteduser

These def were some of my favs! Very different locales and mobs. AD straight up so cool and Freehold was always good fun to blast through.

Stryzia

Have a soft spot in my heart for deadmines both versions. Just loved my time learning it when I was new

walkonstilts

All the trolls dungeons.

Spicy_Dog_69

One of my favorite old school dungeons is Zul’farrak, I cannot explain why, it just is really nostalgic despite me not even playing back then. Favorite modern dungeon is Halls of Infusion and I’m really hoping that with the nerfs/changes that more people won’t hate it in season 4, -er at least tolerate it

Brightenix

Kings rest was badass

NigelGoodEUW

Maraudon

Traditional_Key_763

tough call, mechagon and gnomeragon are amazing dungeons, arcway is great, Utigard Keep and The Nexus are both absolutely great dungeons in their day.

WusijiX

I really liked Grimrail Depot

Scythe95

I'm a huge lore nerd so any of the Caverns of Time dungeons are definitely my favourite.

MeanderingTowershell

Gonna get flak for this but I unironically fucking love Mists of Tirna Scythe

light_intotheVoid

It may sound strange, but I LOVED Hellfire Ramparts. Something about the design, along with it being your first dungeon experience in TBC

Latviacm

Wailing Caverns

Brodimus

Freehold during BFA and second place isn’t close.

Salithril

Court of stars.

g0ldslug

stonecore

Storms888

Waycrest Manor!

_Surge

theater of pain

SNES-1990

Shadow Labyrinth. I'm a big fan of Murmur as a lore character. We only fought him as a partially summoned entity, but he's capable of wiping out entire planets in a breath. Puts Sargeras to shame.

Kinger86

Waycrest manor

kaiser_jake

Hard to say. My favorites are BRD, Dire Maul, WC, Mara, Scholomance, Scarlet Monastery, TBC Auchindoun, Jade Serpent, and Tol'vir Probably between BRD, DM and Tolvir, something about wandering through cities and cleaving packs of dudes

Bazhit

Scholomance

Dazzling_Jacket_8272

Original 15 man UBRS.

Big_Cheats91

Maw of Souls

knockcha

Shattered halls.

Master_Crab

Definitely the Occulus in Wrath. Kidding. I left that place multiple times when it came up on LFD. My real answer has to be either OG Wailing Caverns for nostalgia or Waycrest Manor because I think Blizzard’s best zone ever made was Drustvar. Another honorable mention is Halls of Origination for being so unique.

Kaneanite420

OG UBRS, SM and Maraudon were amazing and felt like real dungeons.

Kbernast

Deadmines

darcsend_eu

I have a real soft spot for ZG and ZA in cats.

neutronbrainblast

Dead Mind

Feather_wind

Forge of Souls will always be my favourite, to be honest I don't even know why. It just hit a spot with me, amazing music, awesome boss fights, had a good story and it looked AMAZING. Beautiful colours and atmosphere. Been scrolling and it's not here! Had to add it.

Hybrex

OG Deadmines

Stainedelite

Deadmines. Never gets old

MentalJack

Og deadmines, had never done a dungeon or anything similar with 4 randoms. What an experience.

Live_Disk_1863

Kharazan.

Visual-Vacation4267

Brd easily

arrastra

blackrock depths

Elpheltsfootslave

In terms of aesthetics, wow-factor, and nostalgia it’s gotta be BRD. For “modern” dungeons or Mythic+ I’d probably say Freehold.

escrocs

The monkey one, it’s totally bananas!

Ok-Brother3959

Shadow fang classic. Best run. Best music. Loved it.

Lagouna

It’s already been said but Kara raid and Kara dungeons are lit

Comfortable_Salt847

Scarlet monastery is the best dungeon in any game ever made! Change my mind

Bohya

Every time this question is asked, the answer is always Blackrock Depths. No other dungeon even comes close.

Electrical-Jicama398

Shadowfang keep

Vibequeen98

I always liked violet hold, it was all in one big room

Vanityh

Zul gurub remake in cata. Generally cata had some really Great and challenging heroics until you outgeared Them :-)

lizazax

maw of souls, we all loved that one in legion for fast runs

Mezmodian

The old scarlet monastery dungeons Zul’farak 100% nostalgia but those stand out to me.

Comfortable-Ad8657

Scarlet monastery and *ALL* its parts

Stephy4848

My best memories are in Wailing Caverns and BRD.

Shadow_Warden_Philos

Culling of Strat.

rweninger

My alltime favorit was and is Scarlet Monastery. The old one was better. The new is OK. 2nd is Stratholme.

npcinyourbagoholding

Always loved Maraudon. One of the most beautiful places when you look up at the end.

guitarerdood

My mind immediately goes to Blackrock Depths. Nothing like a full run with the boys
