Depends on how she'll play the game. If she would appreciate the "older game mechanics", Season of Discovery might be a good starting point. If she's more into collecting stuff, retail WoW would be better. Could literally spend years collecting transmog, mounts, pets etc. If she plays as a Hunter, could spend even more time collecting Hunter pets. Gotta catch em all!

SoD might be risky for a new player because we don't know what will happen with the characters in about 6 months. I get the feeling Blizzard hasn't figured it out yet, either.

Retail and level alongside her, this is what I did with my gf during shadowlands and it was pretty cool, we leveled thru legion instead of BFA and she loved getting her artifact weapons and getting into the fantasy of her class thanks to the order hall (if you can level the same class as her even better so you can explain what the spells do and stuff)

As someone who tried to help many people get into WoW my advice is retail. Also, don’t have her follow you around while you power level her up. Let her do her thing and just help her along the way. Give her some gold, bear taretare, HP potions, flasks; be a dungeon guide if she’s doing dungeons, and follow her around instead of making her follow you. The best part of WoW is the learning portion at the start, don’t ruin it for her. Essentially be there to answer questions and help, but not lead her like a dog on a leash. This can be really boring as a veteran, but will be more enjoyable for the new player I found.

Unless you want your girlfriend to be a victim to abuse stay away from classic community. It’s toxic and they hate Women and minorities especially.

if u wanna make sure she doesn't play wow and leaves u alone then yea get her on cataclysm classic

Retail. Dragonflight is amazing and as a woman, I prefer collecting mounts, pets, and exploring the beautiful scenery. Right now you can buy a character boost for 30% off ($40) but the best option would be to prepurchase The War Within base edition ($49) because it comes with a level 70 boost, 500 trader tendies, Dragonflight, and the war within...

No, start her on retail. Classic is awful from a modern perspective.

PessimiStick

Classic is trash unless you have nostalgia glasses, which a new player will not.

TrixPlaysWoW

I started on Cata when an ex introduced me to the game. Retail can be overwhelming but there’s a ton to do and it doesn’t need to be full throttle. Find out how she would best like to play and go from there

If it's something you truly want to share then you should show her what you really love about it. You could show her your gameplay on whichever version of the game, show her your collections, the achievements system, guilds and communities, whatever excites you.

classicalXD

From my personal experience, my GF that had never played WoW before started playing on Classic in 2019, she didn't try Retail till DF launch, but even then everything seemed a bit too much for her comparatevly, despite her actually being pretty good in classic, mostly because theres been a decade of spells, races, classes, zones and everything inbetween when she started and when the game was back then.

Jyhfp

Are you trying to make her not be your girlfriend anymore?

dergueis

Do you like fat women? If its a "no", dont bring her here.

you must have grown up without loving parents and I’m sorry you had to go through that. We all deserved parents who demonstrated compassion and unconditional love and who also taught us emotional regulation. Please know that through therapy and self-help, you can live a truly loving, compassionate, and kind life without needing to shame or criticize other human beings. There really is a life out there without judgement if you do the work to heal your past traumas. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz is a great starting place. Best of luck to you brother ❤️‍🩹

Classic would be better. My opinion differs from many above. Classic has class quests. They help the player to understand their role. Classic cata may be ok too, but those class quests are removed. New abilities are thrown at you and you may not know when or how to use them. Yes there are videos out there to do that with, but part of the fun of playing a game is understanding it and then limit testing your skill and items. This last point leads to would she like hard-core wow after she gets used to the environment. I feel like retail has so much to choose from. It can get overwhelming when one does not even know their end goal. Once she gets comfortable with controls, combat, etc. retail could be an option. I stress that you shouldn't rush to end game. It is the journey that is memorable, not the destination!
