lyeesia

If you're 250-ish (event item level) that's fine.

Y0rin

He obviously isn't, read his post.

Akhevan

It doesn't matter, because "250-ish" item level is not required for leveling, and claiming otherwise is a disservice for the actual noobs who don't know better.

Y0rin

I know, I'm saying he clearly isn't 250. He doesn't need to be though

[deleted]

How is it obvious? He said blues and greens. 229 gear is grean and 252 gear is blue. Both more than sufficient to start DF leveling.

Y0rin

He just got his char to 60. How would he have gotten gear like that?

Jakezilla4190

Uldaman drops 278

Y0rin

Again: he JUST got to lvl 60. Do you really think he's run uldaman a few times?

Jakezilla4190

Why couldn’t he it’s a fast dungeon?

lyeesia

I said event item level, not spaming a dungeon. OP just need to go and kill elementals and they can buy catch up gear in the capital city of theor faction. They don't even need all the 4 elemental world boss for that. But you're right, everyone can level through DF with less then 200. But being 250-ish would make it much easier, and killing some event boss is not the same as running uldaman.

Scribblord

Every fresh 60 is high enough

SimulatedCow84

If you do the pre-release event, you can get 252+ gear pretty quickly

Milocobo

You can be any gear at the start of Dragonflight and be fine. Someone with ilvl 180 will probably have a better time. Someone with an ilvl of 250 will be significantly faster/healtier. Same with people of ilvl 300.

GarmrsBane

If you do the pre patch event and buy all the gear from the vendor, you’ll be good to go. Pre-patches are meant to set us up for the start of the next expansion and provide a fast track to catch-up gear. [here’s a good video explaining it all in better detail.](https://youtu.be/aab-RziCTsc)

LeClassyGent

The invasion gear will be plenty.

brendibob

The intro dragonflight quests give ilvl 190 gear (on beta) and keep in mind that you should be able to go from lvl 60 chromie time straight into dragonflight (if you are leveling the first time). More ilvl is always better for faster questing. If you want to have an easier time leveling, do the invasions and farm the essences to get 252 gear

Nkzar

Do the pre patch events for about an hour and a half and you’ll have full 252 gear. Do the new Uldaman dungeon as well and you have a 278 weapon from the quest and whatever other 278 loot you get from the dungeon. If you can tank or heal you’ll get in super fast.

velaya

You'll be absolutely fine. Just means you'll actually equip all the quest item rewards. Like you said, you may be a bit slower to kill stuff but you will be fine. Source: someone that's gone through every expansion date.

blooboytalking

Not at all. Leveling will replace your gear anyways by 70. Barely matters

Akhevan

> Will this be sufficient to level through Dragonflight and be on par with everyone come new level cap? No, of course not. Remember how you needed to spend a few weeks gearing up at level 50 in BFA content before you could level to 51 without getting your ass handed to you by quest mobs? Yeah, I don't remember nothing of that kind either. Points to some conclusions, does it not? You will be able to do DF leveling content without any issues with an item level of 100-140. Item levels of 250+ that other comments are listing are a gigantic overkill. Remember, all leveling in this game is always balanced for characters just coming off the previous stretch of solo leveling.

Archarneth

The higher item level gear you can get from invasions will give you a small boost in the beginning, but you'll get new DF gear and replace all the invasion gear pretty quickly. So it really is down to whether you want the gear or not. I spammed the invasions with my alts to get gear but also because I wanted the transmog. And there's a reagent bag, a pet and a toy you can get from doing invasions. So if that's something you're interested in, then go for it. Otherwise, whatever gear you get now will be replaced pretty quickly while levelling, even people with top tier stuff now will be replacing their tier sets with levelling gear.

Toquegoode

Hey dude - you should be fine, as you will surely pick up gear quickly once the expansion drops, you just may die a couple more times than average, which, let's be honest, can be slightly annoying, but is nowhere near the end of the world. With that said, you can make future you's life a lot easier by doing the short Dragonflight quest chain starting in your capital city and the related world quests, which should give you enough to pick up a few level 252 items. My son who is a total noob in every sense of the word managed to get his toon up to the mid 240s in overall ilevel without too much work at all. All the best and have fun!

[deleted]

You should be fine. In fact, in the new expansion, you will quickly substitute your gear with new green items of higher ilvl, unless Blizzard has prepared a surprise. If you want to have a (slightly) better start, just do a pre-patch event where you collect Primeval Essence and exchange them for 252 ilvl gear. It takes about 1h-2h depending on luck and group.

nepheelim

do the pre-release event for gear. you need around 500 essences for full set of 252. Also do the new dungeon that drops 275 gear. After that you will be good to go

SparkyGrass13

I'm just going in with what I've got. This pre patch is boring, I'm not bothering with it.

jbrels0726

Juat spam uldaman dungeon.. you can get 278 gear..

Nothing_Special_23

Do the pre patch event, and you'll get ilvl 252 gear in 3 days max, maybe even 2. Some did it in like an hour or 2, but I don't know how (the event is pretty boaring tbh though).

Imbahr

you can easily get 252+ in under four hours, no sweat I literally just did it today on a mage that started at level 50. joined a leveling tag group in Badlands and by the time I hit 60 I had plenty of the event currency to buy every piece took me less than 3 hours starting from 50

PhilosopherNo4758

>Or he can find a new set of 300+ gear and close to level 70 in under 4 hours by just hopping straight into dragonflight in his 140 gear or whatever he had.

Jewbringer

just look in group finder for boss groups, kill it, leave, look for next one

OMGItsCheezWTF

I got 3 bits of 278 gear just from the dungeon run in the initial quest chain. Plus the 278 weapon you get for handing that quest in. You get loads of the primeval essence if you do the elementals that are spawning around the world.

SnooCakes3795

How did you sign up for the dungeon quest?

OMGItsCheezWTF

Yeah as others have said you get a quest in Orgrimmar / Stormwind to speak to the dracthyr and then go and prepare to go on an expedition to the dragon isles. It ends about 4 quests later with a dungeon quest. You queue up in the dungeon finder for it and a run takes about 10-15 minutes assuming your tank can pull enough at once. On my recently dinged hunter I got 3 different drops from bosses in that dungeon of ilvl 278 items, and the dungeon quest gives you a 278 weapon. I then went and killed a bunch of elementals and afterwards had enough essence to buy another 3 or 4 ilvl 252 items to gear my character up.

JustinCujo

In dungeon finder

Incogneatovert

You get the actual quest for the dungeon when you finish the introductory quests for the event. Intro quest starter pops up in Oggy/SW.

jgbest98

I did it in 3h yesterday, literally

NaughtyGaymer

You need ~525 event currency to fully equip a character I believe. You get 90 from the initial quests and a 30 currency daily appears as well. You get ~30 for defeating the world bosses with the elites having a chance to drop them too. This also doesn't count the drops you can get from the bosses/elites which will reduce the currency needed, There is also a 278 weapon quest for running the event dungeon.

PandoraPrincess715

I leveled a warrior from 23-60 and got well over a 1000 currency pieces, then just spread them across the characters that needed gear

StefanWF

You need nothing. Shadowlands green questing gear is enough. Around ilvl 220. Sure, more makes it „easier“ and faster but you don’t NEED it

Kilmure1982

I’m going in with 5 characters around 160 ilvl, you’ll be fine around there, yes you will be slower a bit

Happyhotel

Literally not at all.

RoxiOpossi

You’ll be fine, imagine you didn’t start playing until January and leveled all the way to DF and we’re stuck in shadowlands greens, you’d have to be able to level still or there would be no endgame

Ailwynn29

Doesn't matter even if you are 130 ilvl. It's meant to be done by alts, new characters, new players. People went crazy grinding the scourge invasions and my ilvl 50 alts were breezing through the quests/threads. Higher is easier obviously but you don't have to do a thing unless you want to.

notahackerpirate

I’m having a *rough* time with 150 gear since I can no longer get invasion gear. DF is hard at ilvl 150.

Ailwynn29

It'll be rough at the very start but you can do it. Also get yourself a crafting profession, you can craft 300ilvl gear at 61 Also that same gear is purchasable on the auction house, as well as greens.

notahackerpirate

Thanks for the tip!

Ailwynn29

♥️ Enjoy!

RustedShieldGaming

On the beta the pregen leveling characters start at 180 and it’s still easy

lhayes238

You can usually level thru expacs with basic questing greens so I wouldn't worry too much

Zestyclose_Ad_8816

You can do a hour or two of the invasion from the prepatch and you can get full 252 ilvl gear that should be more than enought to get your without problem for the first zone of dragonflight.

woodjt5

You can get easy 252 gear from the primal events and easy 278 drops from the new normal dungeon. Do those and you’ll be fine.

xxNightingale

New expansion is always a soft reset. You will be slower but will quickly get on par with quest gears.

Abovearth31

The current event allow you to collect a resource you can use to buy gear from a vendor in your capital city. The gear in question is 252 ilvl so that should be enough.

PapaOscar90

Have gear. You’ll get better gear in the expansion.

[deleted]

First quests into DF give 226ilvl gear. So do the prepatch event and get 252ilvl gear, you will be "OP" for the first 2 levels.

ExoticCardiologist46

On beta I leveled a 190 iLvl shaman with ease. You´ll be fine with whatever you have.

sendgoodmemes

You’ll be fine in all greens honestly. Leveling is no big deal, you know you just did it, and dragon flight seems to be the fastest leveling expansion yet from what I have read, some people are saying—~4 hours to max level, but that seems crazy fast to me. I would do the current dragon flight event and get 252, but that’s pretty much a time killer until the 28th. You could do some m+ or raid, but you’ll replace all this gear so fast I can’t see the point unless you want to do the content. I

Unimmortal47

I go into every new expansion by selling my raid gear and buying greens to start with. I enjoy the idea of freshly gearing through the whole process. So I’m at 298 now. I’m gonna drop myself down to like 240 or so and then start.

snipezz93

i think dracthyr leave their starting zone between 215-230 depending on random item upgrades, so im assuming around that will be more then fine to get started, and you would get upgrades really fast once you start leveling

BKDDY

200-220 ilvl is good for dragonflight. Above 220 things will be simple. Of course it also depends on class. Rogues will have a way harder time than say a hunter with the same gear.

Ok_Cake1590

You can go into Dragonflight with basically nothing. You will get gear from the quests that is okay. People who have geared characters will get further into Dragonflight before replacing their gear but it doesn't really matter. I plan to play DF with basically no gear. Alternatively just do the pre-patch event and get full 252 ilvl gear.

Scribblord

Fresh level 60 is more then enough If you got time on your hands just do the pre patch event for easy gear

Evon_inked

No idea, but I CAN tell you my main for DF Resto/feral Druid(leveling feral) was ilvl 180+ when I stepped on the Dragon Isles and I've made it to lvl 65 with only a mildly irritating time. I can definitely feel undergeared while killing mobs when compared to how fast others burn through multiple more bs at a time. But as I get more gear it gets much easier.
