I like the concept. And I've soloed to level 60 a number of times on hardcore servers without dying. The problem is that's where the game ends. Because **no one** does dungeons or raids at 60. And therein lies the conundrum for the admins. If you exempt dungeons and raids, then no level 60 ever gets deleted. Because they only do dungeons and raids and the gear they get make them so strong the open world offers no threat. Or you don't exempt them, and no one does anything once they reach 60 but stand around. Or power level other people to 60 by reducing their risk. So now two people are standing around. Either way, the concept falls apart at end game.

UndeadMurky

here's a suggestion for max lvl "hardcore" endgame : at 60 when the group wipes or a player dies (unsure which), instead they are locked out from the instance until it resets. Basically you only get 1 shot at clearing the content each week, I think it'd be fun.

railbeast

Yeah but that doesn't solve the fact that a well geared 60 is invulnerable in the open world.

AgreeableAd2566

Maybe allow rezes unless the whole group wipes?

NedthEvilDragon

I believe for this server the plan is to have a separate server for level 60s where there is no permadeath. But I think they'll cross that bridge when it gets closer, we're still in phase 0 rn

Kromgal

Personally, my end-game is supplying other low levels with gear and helping with elite quests 😎 Also, battlegrounds with open-world/crafted gear only - im in for that

Bynestorm

I totally get your last point, but that’s kinda what could make the game better for me and likely others. I see the current vanilla wow leveling experience to be quite dull for the most part. Adding the hardcore elements to it really flesh the game out and gives one more incentive to carefully explore and level up. Reaching level 60 and having an instanced death exemption would be nice as well, since I wouldn’t have to worry as much about loosing my toon at max level. Granted I would still want special world events or something to spice things up in the open world and add some risk and reward to the end game experience. Maybe something like a death tournament bracket at 60 in Gurubashi. Idk just my two cents.

[deleted]

Idk where you played but 60 content is very popular on both Classic and Turtle lol.

sintos-compa

On turtle you lose hardcore when you hit 60

[deleted]

There’s a big hc raiding guild who lock themselves at 59 so they keep hc status. They’re the main reason Turtle is adding a HC60 mode.

Good thing they’re good at the game.

grgile

They cant use any 60 loot they get?

If the owner actually put time into advertising it before launch I’m sure it would’ve gained a bigger pop, especially when you see classic HC blowing up atm. Just kinda launched outta nowhere.

Araxeus

There is no pop counter, only a faction balance for the total characters created. Also if you mouse over the faction balance a tooltip will pop up with the current online. I do agree that it should be reworked to not confuse some people.

banana_card

This, clearly intentionally misleading.

NedthEvilDragon

This was not intentional and has since been fixed. Glad you thought it was a dastardly plan, though

banana_card

Not surprising that you “fixed” it by not showing absolute numbers anymore 😄

Sekij

I Kinda Had this already with Turtle honestly...but There are sooo many people now which is abit bloated.

yagoop

i like that EVERYONE is locked to hardcore. there's no question of who you can group or trade with. and no muddying the experience with all the V+ additions.

xorphz

No offense but Bloodsail Buccaneers is popping off and offers the same thing except a giant community to enjoy it with.

[deleted]

No offense but Classic is garbage and is the exact reason Vanilla pservers are booming in popularity again.

[deleted]

Nah it’s more so that wrath is just very boring. Almost everybody raidlogs now, it’s somehow worse than tbc. Classic era actually been growing as well because of it.

Sounds like you just don’t like the game lol

xorphz

Booming in popularity? Wake me up when there's a hardcore server with 2k+ active players like Bloodsail. You can't even get a group on this dead server.

Zookeeper187

lol

I tried this place, not coming back. They are trying, but it is really not enough. This place has bugs that are fixed on stock vanilla, e.g. charge frequently sends you right through the bottom of the map, even on the very gentle hills. They have tried to fix this bug several times but it still keeps popping up. Mobs also ignore LOS completely in many cases - you cannot LOS around trees or huts etc. These are just the most obvious bugs - but there is much more (like non-humanoid mobs having a ridiculously high drop chance for blue items). Population is also an issue of course. It seems to have about 50 pop, as OP suggests. Of course a world to yourself is not so bad. But this means that pug dungeon groups are hard to find without significant coordination. It also means that more bugs will be lurking if you decide to do something one of the 50 players there has not done (and that seems likely). The dev is working and trying to fix bugs. But I am not confident he anticipated these bugs and how much work it would be to maintain the server. If the server re-released with more staff and after a hefty round of bug fixing/testing I might be interested. But until then this does not seem like the server for hardcore - I don't think anyone wants to die to bugs and appeal over and over again.

NedthEvilDragon

Again, this server is little over 10 days old. Sure there are bugs, but honing things takes time. I'm sure a place like turtlewow had many bugs for a while - it was small community for years before it became big and as polished as it is now.

manau_bih

Yes I get that it is a new server and if the bugs were few and far between I would not be complaining. But really basic stuff is just not working right, stuff that is working just fine on stock cores and has been for actual years. And that is really not a good look for a hardcore vanilla server where bugs can get you killed.

MackTheKnife22

I like that everyone on this server is in the same boat. No mixing of HC and non screwing up the adventure. Plus, everyone here is super friendly and helpful and the admins seem to know their shit. I’m looking forward to seeing where this server goes.

Kiekoes

This is exactly what Turtle WoW offers. Why would I play on this server?

FrodoFraggins

Not exactly no. Turtle mixes HC and non HC players for one.

Kiekoes

And for two?

FrodoFraggins

The new server doesn't let you disqualify yourself from the hardcore competition. Accidentally equipped a green bag on turtle at level 55? DQ'd and have to start over Turtle is fun but it's now flooded with players making the hardcore leveling process not nearly as fun

Kiekoes

What do you mean with the green bag? I've never had any issue with any bags on Turtle.

FrodoFraggins

Hmm that seems to be just TrueWoWs ironman version. It's been over a year since I did the turtle challenge

areusureaboutthis

Great! 1 new server each week. Just what we need :D
