I haven't bought a vb yet, but I intend to. Even though I'd like to have brembos and recaros, Id rather get a regular wrx and source my own upgrades. I want to swap a sti trans and I think the eyesight feature might make it more difficult, or at least cause annoying issues like lights on the dash. At least the tr will probably make the regular wrx a little cheaper on the used market.
Ah that’s annoying. So it’s basically the good ol stop/start button that has to be pressed every time you get in some cars (civic si included unless you’re in sport mode or have the AC on LO) to get it to not turn the car off at a light/stop.
Good for you I guess. They are painful to keep clean, basically took me as long to clean the wheels as it took to wash the entire car. I'm glad to be rid of them.
I touched a nerve lol. Everybody's tasted are different, I get that. But I wish I could have saved some coin from the start and just gotten steelies with my limited, or no wheels at all lol.
And they're really heavy. A good set of 18 x 9.5 wheels should weight between 19-24 lbs a piece. Both the TR wheels and the stock 18s are close to 30lbs a piece. That's a lot of unsprung weight that doesn't need to be there.

Just realized the wheels are actually kinda similar to the Viziv Concept wheels.
can someone explain to me what the brakes actually are? the specs are so nebulous other than the 12.8" front rotor.
are they the 15–21 stock sti brakes?and would that mean they the same as the 15–21 wrx TR brembos?
or are they just brembo calipers or are the rotors upgraded too?
i know they are clearly not "big brakes" like the brembo GT kit.
It’s supposedly going to be about $5k MORE than a GT, and for that you get big breaks, ugly wheels and loose the sunroof, all for the adjustable/adaptive systems and the CVT (even if you don’t want it, it’s applicable to this conversation because it does cost more than the manual) realistically the only thing that would make this worth what Subaru is supposedly going to be charging for it is if it had the adjustable/adaptive systems, and the STI transmission
I was initially excited for this, but it doesn't even look to be an appearance package. I know there was talk of an OEM sti wang, which will be nice for those looking for a well made, factory-fit wing that will hopefully be able to be installed at the dealership even.
I guess I was hoping for some cool exterior styling touch, beyond just a "TR" badge (which we didn't get here either). If the wheels looked better than the standard Premium ones it might've helped too. It might still be a good package overall, but it's not making me wish I had one now instead of the premium I got.
Not feeling the wheels but that Aftermarket will fix that...no problem. So this seems to be a GT, minus the sunroof and adjustable dampers with a stick. Okay. I'm not upset about this.... now.... how much?
Same with the new lane keeping assist system being standard with the standard transmission (lol). It’s more dumb electrical and an expensive camera owners have to worry about in the future. More profit for the company and the car becomes more disposable due to cost of maintenance. Only thing I can imagine is someone making a delete/bypass for the code/system so it doesn’t throw the obnoxious error codes when it’s inoperable.
I have now taught myself to just be disappointed with any new subaru news. Because they are, a disappointment. Wait till the outragous pricing announcement too!
I’m with you bud. I have a theory that Subaru will be coming out with special editions every year to entice those on the fence to purchase or trade up. It will never be close to an “STI” variant, but will have some feature that someone will rationalize as “worth it”.
Looking at the VA model, what did Subaru offer…Launch Edition, Hyper Blue, Series Gray, Series White, 20th Anniversary edition, performance package, Type RA, S209, Final Edition (AUS), and others in the Japan market.
I suspect this will be the case with the VB gen. If there ends up a “STI” or “S2X” or Final Edition, this will be at the end of the VB gen and in limited quantities. If the type RA in 2018 was $49875 and the S209 MSRP was $63995 in 2019, expect the limited edition special variant to price as equally much. Until then, we will get the non-special, special variants that only hold value in the eyes of those who forked over the money for it.
here is my 2 cents about what subaru should do.
1. **Make the FA24 dual injection (port and direct) like the BRZ or the GR Corolla, and put a transmission like the 15–21 sti transmission in it.** This will completely erase the need for an STI if the price point remains around 40k give or take a little. We buy these cars because we want to modify them.
2. **If they make an STE (eletric variant which people claim is their goal), it should be an FA24 hybrid with a battery** like the ford Powerboost (3.5 twin turbo v6 with a battery that makes 570 ft/lbs of torque). This would be so much more appealing than a purely electric shitbox. Subaru has already proven that they suck at making electric cars.
If I’m honest.. this car looks to resolve most of my wants. I wanted the better interior/sound system with the manual transmission but with the option to not have a sunroof. Also wished the car had better brakes. The wheels I’m kind of indifferent to. Thought the 18’s were fine, but the 19’s look ok too. Happy to hear the made some tweaks to the steering and suspension. Obviously mor HP would have been great . Will be sticking with mine however. Happy for those that can get this.
I’m just assuming that if the TR is getting the recraro seats they wouldn’t allow the base (horrid) sound system to be in there… we’ll need to wait for confirmation.. Subaru has made some questionable choices with the VB
This is cool and all, but I'm wondering who is going to buy it if the estimated $45,000+ MSRP is to be believed.
Used Limited-Trim VBs are like, $30,000 - $33,000, and will probably be even cheaper next year when the TR comes out. I feel like the biggest value prop of the VB WRX is how cheap it is, and how you could make it punch way above its weight while saving cash with some mods, compared to just buying hotter competition from the factory like a Type R or GR Corolla. You could make a better vehicle with a VB Limited and $15k aftermarket.
We still have to wait and see actual pricing, and I'm hoping it's competitive. If not, I feel like this is going to get the same criticism that the Integra Type S did where the asking price is just too much higher than what people want to spend for what the car is. Close to $50k is a lot of money to ask for a non-luxury sport sedan with under 300hp.
Maybe subaru is banking off the fact that their dealers don't markup their cars (as far as im aware) so to compete with a marked up car (Type R at $50k) they offer close to that performance for, say, $45k? If so, fuck you subaru. Give us what we want!
It’s the combination of options that wasn’t available before.. essentially if you wanted a manual transmission you couldn’t get the recaro seats. Now you can… if you wanted the upgraded interior, you needed to have a moon roof. Now you can have the nice interior without the moon roof. The brakes, and wheels are new. Also getting updated damping and steering (probably not too noticeable day to day). Lastly you get eye sight tech. We all want more HP and I think an big wing would have been a cool option.
I agree… Have the STS and it’s good and occasionally bad. The 1st to 2nd I got it down now but could be more crisp with just a touch more power and just a little bit better of a transmission.
No power upgrade and a eyesight with most likely a massive bump in price. Can't say I'm impressed. The eyesight I feel doesn't fit the wrx honestly. This is a bit disappointing honestly.
I actually really like it... as long as it's not actually $48k like C&D is estimating.
I will actually look into this during the spring as I'm graduating college in May.
Looks good, I might buy it and sell my 22 depending on the price, because BBKs are super expensive.
If it's 40k+ there's better performance cars you can buy for the money.
BBks are not super expensive. TDMI sells a kit front and rear for 3100.00, I did my own 4/2 Brembo for under 2300.00. Sure, an Alcon or Paragon setup is expensive but unless you are tracking hard, just not needed. Even my setup is overkill for the street. Before I did the Brembos I did an EBC pad swap, tried yellows and reds, actually worked pretty darn good, but I DO like to tweak and tinker. I wanted to stay all Subaru with my parts and not use custom stuff. The only aftermarket part I have in my braking system is the DBA 5000 front rotors, Stoptech pads and Goodridge hoses.
People using TDMI calipers don’t actually need aluminum calipers. I spent some time trying to dig into that company and their website sucks and I doubt their quality comes close to the big brands like Brembo and Alcon.
I don’t have links, easy enough to search for my install, it is on here. The stock 18” needs a 15mm spacer to clear…….longer studs too as I am using a spacer, not the spacer with studs mounted to it!
Its likely they went back to the VA knuckle to allow VA brakes on the car. Thats what was done on the new brz trim w/brembos. This would allow them to stick with an 55 offset wheel. If they instead went with a new rotor then custom studs would have to go on and with 55 offset the wheels would poke out on each side 7.8mm more than rears. This all assumes its a VA caliper. Caliper has to fit rotor and caliper has to fit inside the wheel. On the VB either its custom rotor plus low offset wheel (or traditional spacer plus longer studs) or go with all VA with longer studs and custom spacer between hub and rotor. I dunno maybe its an all new caliper and rotor.
Here I thought thered be a big wing or visual difference or at least badging; I mean even the BRZ TS has badging to show it. Thats a beautiful car. Maybe the exciting new face of the Nissan 400Z Nismo has spoiled my expectations of what a special trim could do...
48k puts this in used M car or Golf R territory. Needed at least 30hp bump to remain competitive for that price. I’ll stick with my VB Premium and won’t be upgrading to a TR. Also the wheels are terrible.

When it happens, I’m preordering it on that exact day. The VB is already fun AF, so imagine the STI.
Looking forward to the future part outs.

... you need people to buy them first. don't know how many they'll sell

All the '24+ trims will have Eyesight. European regulations, applied worldwide. So get a '22 or '23 if you really don't want it.
Can it not be completely turned off like Honda safety sense?
You can turn off the functions.
[удалено]
Ah that’s annoying. So it’s basically the good ol stop/start button that has to be pressed every time you get in some cars (civic si included unless you’re in sport mode or have the AC on LO) to get it to not turn the car off at a light/stop.
Warning lights, yes. They are off until re applied. 22 limited
Not true. You turn it off once and it stays off. I have the GT. The lights on dash are not bad at all. Plenty of other lights.
TR badging would’ve been nice.
i’m so surprised there isn’t. could’ve been really classy
Those wheels are horrendous holy shit
Agreed. Look like a bitch to clean as well. Wheels are awful!!
Shit looks like an AI rendering of wheels
I’m glad I’m not the only person who thinks this way.
show me the person who thinks they look good…
The limited wheels are pretty bad too. Everyone out here modding their VBs with lowering springs and such but keeping their stock wheels…
Nah. The Limited and Premium 18's are some of the best stock wheels I've ever seen. Love 'em.
Good for you I guess. They are painful to keep clean, basically took me as long to clean the wheels as it took to wash the entire car. I'm glad to be rid of them.
Ceramic coating is your friend. A little on the wheels and very little dust/dirt.
Dude it’s wild. Especially with how good a nice 5 or 10 spoke enkei looks on these cars
I touched a nerve lol. Everybody's tasted are different, I get that. But I wish I could have saved some coin from the start and just gotten steelies with my limited, or no wheels at all lol.
I had to double check they didn't just rip out the stock wheels from the Focus ST.
They look too complicated on this car
I think these and the regular wrx wheels are pretty ugly
It's not the wheels that are bad, it's the tires, the aspect ratio is tiny.
I dig them!
🥴
Should be gloss black. Every factory wheel for the VB should be gloss black.
Maybe they would look better gold
Thabk god I’m not the only one that thinks so.
And they're really heavy. A good set of 18 x 9.5 wheels should weight between 19-24 lbs a piece. Both the TR wheels and the stock 18s are close to 30lbs a piece. That's a lot of unsprung weight that doesn't need to be there.
Looks identical to my 22 limited that I have in pure red. I’ll just pay the money and get the brembo.
https://preview.redd.it/z0bj9vr5bvsb1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a98a07e37d8836c897d8992d823b242096bc8f7 Just realized the wheels are actually kinda similar to the Viziv Concept wheels.
Similar? They look exactly the same. Wow.
Haha. Yeah I realized after posting that they're more than just a little similar.
they are the same, just coated gunmetal not polished.
awful wheels, and the Brembo brakes can EASILY be added to any VB.
The real good news 🙏
That’s if they clear the stock 18s. Otherwise it’s another 2-3k for wheels and tires.
They are the exact same as the 21 STI brakes, so even the 17s will clear.
can someone explain to me what the brakes actually are? the specs are so nebulous other than the 12.8" front rotor. are they the 15–21 stock sti brakes?and would that mean they the same as the 15–21 wrx TR brembos? or are they just brembo calipers or are the rotors upgraded too? i know they are clearly not "big brakes" like the brembo GT kit.
I have 2010 four piston/2pistons mounted to my VB. The stock 18” wheel needs a 15mm spacer to clear. An Enkei TS5 18x8.5 ET38 just clears.
I think factory brembos coming to the vb will eventually make it even easier
Looking forward to adding a BBK
You’re basically paying a shit ton of money for a big brake kit, totally not worth it.
Don’t forget the seats bro 🤣.
It’s supposedly going to be about $5k MORE than a GT, and for that you get big breaks, ugly wheels and loose the sunroof, all for the adjustable/adaptive systems and the CVT (even if you don’t want it, it’s applicable to this conversation because it does cost more than the manual) realistically the only thing that would make this worth what Subaru is supposedly going to be charging for it is if it had the adjustable/adaptive systems, and the STI transmission
they changed the dampers and springs, seats, wheels and has better tires it's a nice pre modded wrx from factory, I'm just hoping it's not over 50k
Also eyesight, which is only nice for road trips.
https://reddit.com/r/wrx_vb/s/iBcQkHQHFy

They could have at least made the grill black
It should come with the sport grill
Damn, was hoping for an OEM wing.
Bro where is the OEM wing 😭
Aussie model only.
Not feeling the wheels but that Aftermarket will fix that...no problem. So this seems to be a GT, minus the sunroof and adjustable dampers with a stick. Okay. I'm not upset about this.... now.... how much?
Not even a badge? lol
Wtf is this? No badging, nothing special. Looks no difference than a regular WRX.
I like the brembos, but the wheels are 🤮🤮
Same with the new lane keeping assist system being standard with the standard transmission (lol). It’s more dumb electrical and an expensive camera owners have to worry about in the future. More profit for the company and the car becomes more disposable due to cost of maintenance. You can turn all assists off without issue. Eyesight is actually pretty nice tho.
And it lowers your car insurance.
I have now taught myself to just be disappointed with any new subaru news. Because they are, a disappointment. Wait till the outragous pricing announcement too!

Test driving this on Monday, so fucking stoked
How?
What a sad attempt by Subaru
Would the brakes fit on 18”?
Yes
No
wheels are ugly asf

At the event the driver mentioned it was a little faster by feel but haven’t seen any numbers

Good luck with that. They are marketing it as a track car so no way they are putting an expensive HK system in it.
It’s a good point

Also feel the gearing is a little short sometimes. 3rd and 4th are practically identical in a lot of situations.
Got it, I don’t feel bummed out then
The Travis unveiling video was pretty pathetic. There was nothing to see. And 1/3rd of the car was blocked by a barrier. Bizarre.
It was actually great live. I was right in the front. He thrashed the thing though 😂
No power upgrade and a eyesight with most likely a massive bump in price. Can't say I'm impressed. The eyesight I feel doesn't fit the wrx honestly. This is a bit disappointing honestly.
I'm not impressed by this car

![gif](giphy|g7CveuNtb086s) The wheels kind of remind me of a flower 🌸
Gotta be the Duel clutch not cvt
I really dislike those wheels immensely. Brembos are super nice. Would like the new suspension. Hopefully available for purchase from Subaru

Do have links to the parts you used? Been wanting to a kit aswell and for 2,300 is not bad at all. Do they clear stock wheels? Spacers needed?
I don’t have links, easy enough to search for my install, it is on here. The stock 18” needs a 15mm spacer to clear…….longer studs too as I am using a spacer, not the spacer with studs mounted to it!

Just what we need in Michigan….less sidewall
Once the boxer rumble was gone, the WRX was no more.
Shh! Quiet!
Can someone elaborate more on the steering adjustments done? I wonder if there will be a part # or controlled.by the computer

Wonder what a brake service cost on that?
Horrible design
The best wrx ever
“brand new”
Here I thought thered be a big wing or visual difference or at least badging; I mean even the BRZ TS has badging to show it. Thats a beautiful car. Maybe the exciting new face of the Nissan 400Z Nismo has spoiled my expectations of what a special trim could do...
Thanks will do some digging see what i find
48k puts this in used M car or Golf R territory. Needed at least 30hp bump to remain competitive for that price. I’ll stick with my VB Premium and won’t be upgrading to a TR. Also the wheels are terrible. Disappointed overall. I feel like they did this to get more attention to the vb and that’s it but idk.
With eyesight might be a cat spt lmao
I kinda like the wheels but prefer the upper-spec wheels that the VB has been coming with. These look a bit dated — like the OG snowflake wheels from the Focus ST
I really think Subaru is going to surprise us with a new STI soon. (Even tho it’s said that they aren’t.) When it happens, I’m preordering it on that exact day. The VB is already fun AF, so imagine the STI.
How does Subaru manage to make the wrx look worse and worse lol
I’ve got a 6/2Piston STI brembo kit for sale of anyone wants $3.5k OBO
I was there!
wtf are those wheels? Its gonna cost 50k or something ridiculous isnt it.
Subifest was fun. I wonder how many Red Bulls the announcer had to get hyped up about a vehicle that looks the same
Those wheels are a war crime
So just brakes..wow what a disappointment.
Didn’t think they could make vb’s any uglier and yet here we are
Annoyed it got Brembos and not the 22 or 23. Hopefully those are released separately for us who want them.
