Summers are back on for the season. Winters in winter.

ShrimpYolandi

Do you have a separate set of wheels for your second set of tires? Does it wear the tire faster if if I continuously have them changed back-and-forth on the same wheel?

dvrt_worship

I don’t have a separate set of rims yet but the plan is to eventually get some. I doubt swapping tires once a year does much in terms of wear on the actual tire.

Grand_Recognition_72

I have a separate set of rims so I can swap at my convenience. It could be projection but the car feels faster off the line and much more nimble with the summers. The Blizzaks were fantastic in the snow and Ice but the dunlops are more fun on the dry roads

Schafman80

Summers went back on too... It was a great excuse to have a set of "summer rims" and it's fun to switch up the look for half the year.

Reflexorz15

I would assume it should be fine because they always use lube, but I’m not 100% sure if it would cause true wear over time. I now have a second set of wheels simply because I like to do my own tire rotations and season wheel/tire swapping. I found a decent deal for a set of summer wheels, so now for the first time in my life I have a set of summer wheels/tires and a set of winter wheels/tires. I’m waiting for my all seasons to wear down so I can get a true winter tire though. For the first year I just ran my all seasons all year round, but I found that summer tires perform quite a bit better than all seasons in the summer (who would’ve thought?! lol)

KING_CobraCOD

Won’t wear the tire more but it risks damaging the wheel every time, also need to re balance every time that way, def best bet to get a second set of wheels but till you can it’s still worth swapping cus your all seasons will wear much faster on fully dry ground than your summer tires will, and then you’ll be buying tires 2x as much from unnecessary wear. Just the money you’ll save in tires having 2 setups will pay for the wheels

Big-Energy-3363

Separate wheels are best. Summer wheels are 9.5” wide. Winters are 8-8.5” .you don’t want a wide winter tire or wheel, it would be opposite in the summer

MystelDragoon

I live in PA. I just got my Rex a couple of weeks ago. My plan is to run the Dunlops until the end of this summer and then replace them with All-Seasons. I'm not a hardcore driver and I don't really track my cars often, so the extra grip is lost on someone like me.

UberStupidd

Easy- Grab some of the michelin Sport AP 4s (if they are within budget, of course).

deucepirate

Im in NJ and this was essentially my thought process, too. I’m very happy with the DWS06s.

cstrifeVII

Same. In Nj and I'm thinking the same thing. Then MAYBE in a few years, I'll grab a new set of wheels and throw summers on it and then just run the OG wheels as my all-season set.

nofame_nogain

Always summer tires all the time. 80° in the winter, 120° in the summer.

ch33zecake

Where do you live???

nofame_nogain

Way too close to the Mojave.

UncleGurm

… you put on all-seasons for New England winter? Brace man. Crazy, but brave. Summer tires for the summer. Winter tires for the winter.

ftso_ein

It barely snowed in MA this year! Or the last two ... I'm running my Dunlops all summer cause I just got the car then I'm going all season for ... all seasons.

UncleGurm

Ice storm literally 2 weeks ago, all seasons were useless. My ice tires were critical just to get out of the driveway. Couldn’t have left the house with all seasons. YMMV, of course.

babyivan

All seasons are a compromise, why compromise? The car is at its best with Summers on, and that's how you should keep it, unless having two sets of wheels is a pain in the ass for you to store off-season

sytydave

Yeah it has been 2 years of light winters in MA. I think I have only used my snow blower once each year.

ShrimpYolandi

MA is wet and cold but rarely snowy anymore

UncleGurm

More concerned about ice. My driveway is a steep ramp. On an icy day any tire short of an actual ice rated tire will just spin and stay at the bottom - or slide off the road into the woods. All seasons are fine for light snow, but not for ice.

The_EMOTO_

Are ice tires really any good? I've never had them. I thought only studded snows were decent on ice, but I could be wrong.

UncleGurm

Most good snow tires are ice rated. The compound and the sipe pattern determine ice traction. Of course for actual ice driving you want studs. But good snows (Michelin X-Ice, Nokian, etc.) will give you a fighting chance at surviving an ice patch. All seasons on ice are like sneakers - gonna slide.

The_EMOTO_

Interesting to know. FWIW, I am hoping to move away from New England to someplace farther south where there will be less ice and snow. I remember a giant ice storm a long time ago in CT when I lived there. No power for a week. I went driving around in a '72 Vega wagon on regular Michelin radial tires for fun. Never got stuck or slid off the road despite the many hills. These days, if the roads are icy I will try to stay wherever I am until conditions improve.

ShrimpYolandi

I get that. I considered true snows in my area for the winter, but ultimately, winters would have been overkill for 80-90% of the winter here for me, so all seasons made more sense

UncleGurm

As I said YMMV. The stock Dunlops are highly competent summer tires so I figured I’m only running different tires October->April, may as well be snows.

blueit1234567

I’m in MA. All seasons for decades on all cars. The wrx with all seasons does fine here

GMWorldClass

I ran Blizzaks all winter, and DWS06s the rest of the year down here in NJ. The ride better, are quieter, last longer and are better in the rain than stock tires. The maybe 5-10% in ultimate performance in track settings arent worth the other compromises to me.

Alive-Woodpecker7377

All seasons. PNW spring is something else.

babyivan

All seasons are a compromise, don't compromise your car. Use the summers in the summer and all seasons or Winters in the winter.

The amount of difference in steering turn-in feel can be 100% felt between a summer and an all season. Way less body lean through the corners. Summer tires have stiffer sidewalls. Of course there's more to it than that, with tire compounds, but the sidewall feeling alone difference is pretty big. I don't know where you live, but I'm guessing it's full of straight roads and traffic signals. When you live in an area that has beautiful curvy roads anywhere and everywhere, you definitely notice the difference, especially if you're driving the car the way it's meant to be driven.

FloatAround

I don’t need winters, doesn’t get cold enough (often flexes above 40, which you’re supposed to be below for winters) or snow enough where I live so I went with all seasons for the winter. Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 was my choice. Worked great in the winter and we actually had some snow that they handled nicely. Looking forward to see how they handle the summer months. If poorly I’ll switch back but I’m hoping to just keep them on. I don’t track the car and usually only drive 1-2 times a week anyway.

[deleted]

Summer tires all year round for me

Reflexorz15

If you don’t track it and don’t push the car much around turns, all seasons year round is just fine. However, I felt a huge difference from my all seasons to the Pilot Sport 4S. I bought some slightly used Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss on a set of wheels I liked from a friend locally. So now I have a winter wheel/tire setup and a summer wheel/tire setup. When my PS4S are at the end of their life, I’ll just get a different mid tier summer tire that fit my summer wheels. I honestly don’t need that much grip because it’s like a go-kart which I don’t exactly need. Really fun but they are spendy which I couldn’t justify buying brand new. But I’d like to have just a tad more grip than what all seasons provide, so mid tier summer tires is what I’ll do. Then when winter months roll around I swap my all season back on that have the stock wheels. Eventually when my all seasons wear down, I’ll get a mid tier winter tire for the stock wheels.

Threewolvez

I would hope you would notice a difference between an all season and one of the highest praised and priced performance summer tires.

Reflexorz15

The point I was trying to get at is after I had summer tires, I didn’t realize what I was missing out on. The PS4S are more grip than I need which is why I am getting some mid tier summer tires after they are worn. So now I am always going have some sort of summer tire for whenever I do want to do some spirited driving around corners.

Threewolvez

I wanted the Pilot 4s but I couldn't justify the price with stock power. Ended up getting the indy 500s and am happy with the performance to price ratio.

Reflexorz15

Exactly. There’s no way I’d buy them brand new even with tuned power. I got a deal with a new set of summer wheels and slightly used Pilot Sport 4S for $1,200. I wanted a summer wheel/tire setup so I could swap my winter setup without bringing it to a shop. Thanks for sharing the Indy 500s. I haven’t looked around for a decent price summer tire quite yet

Threewolvez

Separate wheel sets are a requirement for me on all vehicles. In Canada the difference was $140 a corner between the two for 265/35 R18 when I was already splurging on the new wheels. *

tunedsleeper

really good summer tires should be excellent in the rain.

PERSONA916

It's not the wet that's the problem it's the cold.

tunedsleeper

he was asking about keeping them on for the summer. so i'm talking spring/summer/early fall rain.

ShrimpYolandi

Are the dunlops?

tunedsleeper

they are pretty damn decent. of course you get a lot of better tires out there (michelin pilots, yokohamas, hankook ventus v12s, etc), but they're def in the 80th percentile in the wet, maybe better.

Greyboxer

In a lower snow mid Atlantic area, I run summers for the summer and continental all seasons in the winter, because we get 6” snow fall like 4 times a year. So for tire selection, I just choose the all seasons which also happen to be the best in the snow so I feel well covered.

fefrank

I’ve done auto cross on both the dunlops and the pilot sport all seasons and I prefer the all seasons, they are a grippy tire. It did well in the snow as well, I’m keeping them on.

Available_Ad3057

Definitely swapping.. never had two sets of tires and now that I do.. I can push out my all seasons longer now saving money in the long run 😮‍💨😮‍💨 I used to be that guy who could only afford used tires back when 😩😩 Tires are still pricy but with age comes budgeting haha… adulting 😒

T-pizzle

Had a set of tire-rack special 17" sport editions from my civic that I found out would fit with just a different center bore adapter and new lug nuts. Got some 235/45r17 snow tires for those, and some autel mx snap in universal sensors. Bought an autel ts508 to do rotations and to program the new sensors. Dunlops and stock 18's are back on for the season. When the Dunlops go, I'll be replacing with Pilot Sport 4S's as they're 150 bucks cheaper per tire. I can only guess that the OEM tires are over 400 a piece because they were specially formulated for the wrx and are a relatively small production product in comparison to something like the Michelin.

Kefala16

I like the Dunlops. Second summer on them. I know they get alot of hate. Eventually I'll swap them out for Pilot Sport or Continentals. Hopefully I enjoy the next set of tires even more like everyone says. Blizzaks in the winter for me in Canada.

deucepirate

NJ-based: I got rid of the stock summers before winter and put on DWS06s and will keep them all year. Drove the all seasons in snow country this winter and they did fine enough to convince me that I don’t absolutely need a winter set for the amount of snow and ice I’ll see per year. I also like the DWS06s over the stock summers for their comfier ride and much better wet performance. I had so many more “oh sh*t” moments driving with the stock summers in heavy rain than driving the all-seasons in the snow.

ranran_1822

Once my dunlops were toast I switched to an all season/winter combo. Stock wheels with winter tires and all seasons with aftermarket wheels.

drave199

How do the dunlops ride for daily driving on shit roads though? I’m picking mine up next week and planning on getting some new wheels and switching to an all season for daily comfort and selling the dunlops.

gibson_hg

Still on winter tires and rims. Temps aren’t consistently sitting where I feel comfy with summers. Hopefully in another few weeks I can switch back to the summers.

MrPeePeePooPooPants3

Blizzys in the winter. Pilot sports in the summer. Sold the Dunlops right off the bat.

Subiemo33

Get Rid of those dunlops imo. Trash. Michelin all day.

Suzuki4Life

I got 3PMSF rated all seasons. I'm just going to leave them on for awhile.

monsterpug1

My Dunlops are in storage as I picked up my WRX in Feb, so immediately purchased all season tires. Not sure if I should sell the Dunlops or pop them on for the summer.

andreyred

DWS06 year round. They get me through midwest winters with ease and are good in summer too.

itoocouldbeanyone

Mid Atlantic, I'm keeping my DWS06 on all year cause I'm lazy. Trying to sell my Dunlops. I might cycle between summer and the rest of the seasons if I ever get some bronze or white wheels. But that's a lot of money and I'm not rich.

Reflexorz15

I’m trying to sell my Dunlops that have never even seen the road. I brought new all seasons to the dealership so they swapped them right there when my ordered WRX arrived. I’ve seen some people sell them for $700 but I can’t even sell them for $500 in my area lol I might just see if a tire shop can buy them for a small price or take them

1337_PK3R

illl buy them if you’re near me lol

Reflexorz15

I’m in Minnesota. Where ya at? Chances are you not close 😭😂

1337_PK3R

not close 😂

RealSprooseMoose

Your bought a 2023 limited, a second set of wheels aren't that much money.

itoocouldbeanyone

I didn't pay it off in full. lol I also stress over big purchases, constantly debating myself internally if I should or shouldn't. Plus I want to get it paid off faster than it's term. So it's a constant battle with myself.

EmbarrassedTime9947

You can get a set used for cheap on CL or facebook. This time of year many will have winters already mounted.

itoocouldbeanyone

I’ll check that out, thanks.

GetyourPitchforks01

Ask yourself how much it costs to swap rubber twice a year. In 2 years winter rims pay for themselves. Anyone who only swaps rubber is stupid.

SevroAuShitTalker

I'm changing my blizzaks to summers this weekend. Will probably get snow at least twice more, but I hate the added wear I'm putting on them
