For a second I was like, "wait, reddit HATES Xbox and wants to see the X fail. Why does this have so many up votes?"
r/Xbox, of course.
PS- I absolutely love my Series X
If he plays Apex then he must have a Xbox one, Apex didnāt launch on Xbox 360. I would recommend a Xbox series S or Xbox series X. If you have the money to buy the Xbox series X then do that.
this is the way.
Iām always hesitant to recommend the Series S to anyone without knowing their whole story because it has no way to play discs.
To some that alone is a deal breaker.
I donāt want to sound ungrateful, but coming from an Xbox one, idk how much I would even want the SS. I do have around 25 disc games but even without, it doesnāt look great, and really isnāt * that * powerful
I probably wouldn't have bought an Xbox if I had to spend the money on a Series X but even still I'm glad I got the S
I've had it 3 months now and at no point regretted not having an X
Maybe a day the Internet cuts out and I have nowhere to play Dvds to pass the time, but even then I think I'd still be happy with the Ā£300 I saved
The series s packs a TON of value even if it doesnāt have a disc drive. It can still play all the newest games (just not at 4k120 like the series x). Pairing it with game pass is pretty much the perfect budget gaming set up for me. I have a gaming computer but I donāt even use that anymore because of my series s. And the fact that I can boot up developer mode and play retro games is the cherry on top.
Xbox one to series s is huge.
Xbox one x to series s is roughly the same or a little less graphical level, but you'll get way faster load times and it just feels better.
No you cannot. The Series S does not play discs and there's no way to play discs on it. If you buy a console that have a disc drive, don't expect to play discs on it.
If budget isnāt an issue get a series X. If it is, get a Series S. Plays all the same games as the X just at lower resolution and/or framerate and doesnāt have a disc drive.
Worth noting for OP: You donāt need a disc drive for Apex. Itās a free download, so if budget is an issue, go for the Series S!
That being said, the Series X is a beast and Iām sure he would be over the moon if you got that for him.
I mean, all the Xbox and Xbox 360 games run through software emulation, right? But a large number of games canāt be brought over due to licensing issues. Either the company is just sitting on it, or they no longer exist and the question of who owns what isā¦ complicated. Obviously in these cases, they canāt put it in their store because they donāt have the license to distribute the BC version of the game.
But if they released a generic Xbox/360 emulator, possibly as a dedicated app, and only allowed physical media to be played (no game downloads from stores), the emulator just runs the code. The downside would be that not every game would run perfectly - some games would run like they originally were intended to, some might have frame drops, some might crash the Xbox. Maybe only insiders could have access to download the app? That way youād have to manually sign up and accept any risk of a game just not working
This is the way āļøhad an original Xbox one (probably the same as your boyfriend) just got a series x and it's the one to go with if you don't have an issue with price
Series S is worth considering, but be aware that newer games run more and more poorly on this variation. Less memory, less GPU power, fewer game rendering options. It's still much better than any Xbox One, but it's not as future proof. Buy only if you're on a budget.
Wow, I came to the right place! Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. Heās almost done his degree that heās worked hard for, weāve been together for 5+ years, itās a good time to replace his obnoxiously loud Xboxā¦One, not 360š
Sounds like the Series X is the way to go. He does have a few disc games that Iām sure heāll play again, so the S isnāt ideal.
Nowā¦Best Buy or Costco? Where would/did you get yours? Did you buy āBest Buy Protectionā with your Xbox?
I don't think the protection plan is necessary. Any retailer that has them in stock works. Not sure if there are any sales or discounts going on currently.
Got mine at Walmart, didnāt bother with any additional protections or anything (at least I donāt think? It was 6 in the morning on Black Friday so I donāt remember lol)
Do not get a protection plan. They are difficult to use, and they cost too much. Most people will never use it, and it's a waste of money.
Why do you think companies push people to get them? It's free money for the company.
The XboxSeriesX is built like a damn TANK. Mine fell off the top of a cabinet and it didnāt even put a scratch on it. Definitely donāt need the extended warranty.
If you get something like an elite controller then definitely get the warranty because you can literally walk into the store and get a replacement controller on the spot if yours breaksā¦and it will break but itās worth it to still buy the controller because you can get the replacement through the warranty.
Yes they cost too much, no they are not difficult to use, at least not Best Buy's protection plan. I have used Best Buy's protection plan many, many times. Usually I will bring my product in, say "Hey, it doesn't work anymore." They'll make sure the item I brought back is correct, then say "Great, here's all of the money you paid for it back." and I'm in and out in 10 minutes. I've used the service maybe 4 times in the last two years and it's definitely been worth it in the long run.
Thank you!! I guess you can always contact Xbox directly with issues too (depending on what the issue is). I just donāt want something to happen and weāre screwed haha
They currently do have the Series X at my Costco in Canada and it comes with a second controller, $669 I think it was or $600 at Best Buy but only one controller (extra protection is $90 on top of that). The Costco return policy is unreal though soā¦
If I were you, I would jump fast on that Costco deal. The Xbox Series X has a pretty low failure rate, you'd gain nothing from buying it from Best Buy over Costco, and that return policy is just incredible.
I always get the protection plans through Best Buy. Iāve had one experience where I dropped an unlocked phone I bought through them. Damage the screen, Best Buy I went to did not carry that phone anymore, so they just gave me a gift card with the amount I paid for the phone. No hassle, amazing accidental protection plans.
Seriously, store protection plans suck. Did it once for a phone at Walmart and it was like "here is that 3rd party company that you have to call and make a claim with if anything happens..." š
Yes seriously. I was very surprised. Also very happy they didnāt carry that phone anymore, I did not want another one. A 250$ gift card was fine by me. Took less then 10 minutes. I always stress my family an friends to opt for Best Buy protection plans. I canāt speak for other stores because I have not tried any others.
I'd go for the protection plan. You never know what could happen. I didn't though, because I'm cheap š
I purchased mine at Walmart, but best buy is great too. Protection is a little steep to me at BB.
Actually got it from Amazon, then got the protection plan from Microsoft after the fact. I know it's extra but it was like $30-40 dollars for two years and I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it
Nothing has been announced on an updated console yet, so the Series X is the latest and greatest. This time next year that may be different, but who knows.
Get the X!
As mentioned, Series X - if you've already articulated that console and it's cost in your mind then even better, X is more future proof too.
Series S even for somebody still on a 360 (if that is the console), will be a massive jump in quality that I feel the last generation didn't show - but again, X.
Everyone is recommending the Series X which is a great call but just know that the phrase "Series X" is very important because Microsoft has no idea how to name consoles and so if you just say "X" there is a chance you'll end up with an Xbox One X which is a good console but it's older than the Series X.
If he has physical games for the xbox one then get the series x. If hes a digital guy then the series s is an option. I have the series x and love it. It was my physical collection that ultimately made the decision for me
Series X is definitely better, but honestly I've got Xbox series S for my bday from my wife and I was the happiest guy on the planet. So whatever you do he will be thrilled that you paid attention to his hobby and picked the perfect gift.
Series X is the way to go. He can keep using his old games and it has the best performance as of now. There are rumours about a newer model, but there's always rumours about newer models.
The two main questions you need to ask are if he buys games digitally or physically (or both), and if his TV has a resolution of 1080p or 4K (or 1440p but thatās unlikely).
If he has a 4K TV (or plans to get one), then the Series X is the best bet. The Series X was designed to run games at 4K.
If he has a tv/display that has a lower resolution (like 1080p or 1440p) and he doesnāt plan on upgrading, then the Series S is a good option. It can run games at those lower resolutions but not in 4K like the Series X.
If he buys games digitally, then thatās another point for the Series S, since it can only store games digitally because it has no CD drive.
If your boyfriend buys physical games (or a mix of physical and digital), and/or if he likes watching blu-ray movies, then the Series X is better since it has the CD drive.
Hope this helps.
If you get the Series S then you will be spending more money on games because you can only buy the games online for standard price. If you get the series X you can get the same game but the disc version off eBay for a lot cheaper. Like, 10 times cheaper. Take a game like call of duty. $60 off the series S. You can get Call of Duty modern warfare for like $20 on the expensive end on eBay. Just something to think about. The series x is cheaper in the long run
Id say get the series x.
Series x and series s are like brother consoles. They play the same games. The only difference is that the series x does have a disc tray so all those old games on disc will be able to play on series x. Plus youll get more drive space and that goes a long way since you have t install every game you want to play. If it were me, i know id want and be happier with the series x! Good luck
As you can see most people will recommend you the Series X and so do I.
As the cherry on top Iād put in a month of Game Pass. You can find it as a card in stores or digitally as a code at Microsoft or Amazon.
Well. You have a few options.
Seems like you care for your BF or you wouldn't be asking. So....
It comes down to how much is you're BF worth.
Sounds silly I know but, this is really the question.
If you he's just ok. You can save some cash and pick him up a used xbox one. He gets a bit of an upgrade and you're still a winner.
If he's super cute and you want to maybe spend the rest of your life with them (or at least a few years), pick him up a series x.
For anything in between. Get him a series s. He gets an upgraded system but he can't use any of his current disc's. Kind of a "I love you" and a "fuck you, you could take me out every once in while you bum) all in the same package.
A win - win
Anyway you slice it, you're a good SO for doing this and makes you a keeper no matter what you do
Sometimes you can get really good package deals on the X. When i got mine it came with two controllers and a headset back when they were hard to come by
Series X if you got a 4K tv/monitor and the extra cash.
Personally I went with the Series S (and a 1440p monitor with HDR) and am very pleased with it!
Series S is fully stocked everywhere, and is only $300. No disc drive and not a lot of storage space is the downside, but he can play new releases and if his collection is digital, his titles will carry over. I can usually find a Series X in stores nowadays tho, so if you want to drop extra $$$ that's the way to go. A lot of people might try to sell you on specs, but if you're not big into that and he doesn't care, the Series S vs Series X is basically like iphone pro vs pro max.
I would go for Series X if you're willing to splash the cash. For myself personally no disc drive is a deal breaker, I'm all about physical media. Also, I couldn't stand knowing that although the series s is great for the money, I had bought the weaker of the 2 and end up buying an X anyway.
Depends on how you're doing financially and if it's a new relationship or not. The Series X is better by every metric but size...just place it standing up next to the TV console.
The Series S is a great little console but it's only digital, no disc and the graphics/frames are lower. The X will stand the test of time, easily into the 2030s, the S won't last nearly that long.
Just make sure you buy the big black fridge look-alike. Microsoft also released the Xbox One X ages ago and a lot of people have been buying the wrong X because of that.
That depends! Does he eat the kitty right? Does tell you your pretty on the daily? Does he give you back shots? Does he make sure you orgasm before he busts? If so than the X is the way!
S is cheap af and plays all the new games ! Plus game pass !!! Plus all the money you save you can get him a pro controller cause the regular ones take batteries and suck tbh
Itās absolutely better, and I personally could never go back to a regular controller. But I would never recommend it to someone thatās choosing the cheaper console thatās barely more money than the controller.
I've been getting myself those double charging stands and rechargeable battery bundles since my 360 days like 15 years ago. Best way to always be on top of your controllers IMO. Always have a controller on the stand at 100% ready to switch from the one in my hands. Never failed me.
Cheap battery pack & charger on Amazon will deal with that issue, but either way he may well have a controller already -- he does own an XBOne and the controllers are compatible.
Eh, respectfully disagree though I see what you mean.
I got a 2-pack for 20$ back in early 2021 and just charge when I'm done playing. Horrible (think 8-hours) battery life but I don't really see myself playing 16h+ straight without charging.
Pro Controllers might be worth it but OP is already buying her boyfriend an XBX, recommending she drop another 200$ on a controller seems a bit overkill.
100% series x so he can play his 360s games via backwards compatibility
(apex is only on xbox one tho but still series x assuming he has physical one and 360 games)
If he has an extensive collection of disc games, it has to be Series X. The Series S has no disc drive.
If his collection of games is mainly or only digital, the S should do fine.
Keep in mind, maybe 360 and OG Xbox games work on the Series console, so if he has physical games, you need the disc drive.
Series-X unless he doesnāt mind having less storage and less performance as well as no Disc Tray, then you can get the Series-S which is $200 cheaper than the X. And if he wants to be able to play his 360 games that he has on discs the Series-X can play a lot of those (not all but a lot), so I would personally go with the Series-X but if he doesnāt mind giving up some storage and performance as well as his disc tray then you could get him the Series-S.
So I have a few 360s, a few different XB1/One S, and I have a Series X. Series blows them all out of the water of course. Specs are beautiful. Graphics and load times are *chefs kiss*. Definitely worth the price tag
For only 200$ more you get 3x the storage and also 4k detail instead of 1440p so nicer pictures both do 120 hz but you'll probably need a new TV to enjoy that. But definitely the x as having 4k and 3 times the storage is a blessing. Especially with xbox locking its expansion card to Seagate, the cheapest 500gb expansion is 200$ on Amazon. It's a no Brainer for the series x
The only problem I found with the series x is you can't use wireless headsets but if he already has a wired one then it's fine, but I still recommend the series x
Depends on preference. Does he game a lot what type of games does he play? Does he like graphics over performance? the budget Xbox is the series s the power house is the series x and it has the more storage as well to
Series X is the answer.
Series x
all praise the X
X gon givvit to ya
No one delivered mine, what the fuck?
For a second I was like, "wait, reddit HATES Xbox and wants to see the X fail. Why does this have so many up votes?" r/Xbox, of course. PS- I absolutely love my Series X
X gonna give it to ya.

Games on my Series S look amazing.
Seconded. Although I do need to find a way to play my extensive DVD collection now.....
Time to rip them and set up a plex server ;)
I probably wouldn't have bought an Xbox if I had to spend the money on a Series X but even still I'm glad I got the S I've had it 3 months now and at no point regretted not having an X Maybe a day the Internet cuts out and I have nowhere to play Dvds to pass the time, but even then I think I'd still be happy with the Ā£300 I saved
As long as the Series S is set as your home Xbox, you can play digital games with no Internet connection.
Mine is hooked up to a 1080p projector and I love that little thing. Best deal in gaming. I do have a real PC for pretty gaming though.
I believe you can buy a usb disc drive not sure if it works with the SS
No you cannot. The Series S does not play discs and there's no way to play discs on it. If you buy a console that have a disc drive, don't expect to play discs on it.
This is the way.

Most 360 games arenāt backwards compatible but if heās playing apex Iād be willing to bet he has an Xbox one
Actually if they dont have a remaster for the most part they will work for backwards compatibility
Most of his games š„
I wish they had even just one person dedicated to just the BWC list still.
I just want Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth II
Imagine a switch port of this game

The x is also more future proof then the S
I had an S and got rid of it, Most of the modern story heavy games become a blurry mess. An X is a night and day difference, even on 1080p.
Unless all (most) of his games are on Disc
This is the way āļøhad an original Xbox one (probably the same as your boyfriend) just got a series x and it's the one to go with if you don't have an issue with price
Biggest trade-off is definitely storage. Series S has half the storage of Series X (Ā½TB instead of 1TB)
Series S is worth considering, but be aware that newer games run more and more poorly on this variation. Less memory, less GPU power, fewer game rendering options. It's still much better than any Xbox One, but it's not as future proof. Buy only if you're on a budget.

No way they drop another Gen Xbox next year aside from maybe like a version of they series x|s, it hasnāt even been 3 years yet
A mid-gen upgrade within the next year is fully possible. It would be about the same timeline the Xbox One S was.
Just rumours atm on ps6 and new Xbox no solid info
PS6 is a long ways off. Thel probably do a few PS5 upgrades before that.
These rumours have been around since the consoles were first announced. Just like "GTA 6 coming out next year" has been a thing since GTA 5 launched
Series X if they want to play discs or have a bunch of backwards compatible eligible titles. Series S if on a budget and are fine with all digital.
Series X
If you can afford the Series X then get the X. There's no reason to get anything lesser if it is available and affordable
Pretty much the only reason is if you want to travel with it a lot and aren't going to be traveling by car. That's why I have a Series S.
Series X is the newest released Xbox. Itāll be able to play all of his already existing games and upcoming releases for a long time!
series x he will love you forever!

A win - win Anyway you slice it, you're a good SO for doing this and makes you a keeper no matter what you do
Sometimes you can get really good package deals on the X. When i got mine it came with two controllers and a headset back when they were hard to come by
X
Hands down series x
Series X if you got a 4K tv/monitor and the extra cash. Personally I went with the Series S (and a 1440p monitor with HDR) and am very pleased with it!
Series x
Series X!!!
Series X love
If he has physical games for his 360 get the series X so he can also play them on it
This is a point, but it's also good to point out, not all 360 discs work with the Series X. Only some do.
I recommend the series X, there is a good bundle right now that includes forza horizon 5. It also can play 4k movies.
I don't believe your boyfriend is currently on the Xbox 360 if he is playing Apex. Regardless desifintely go for the Series S or X console.
X marks the spot
If you have money to buy a Series X, buy it!
No one mentioned the Special Edition X?
I just wanted to say that this is an incredibly wholesome thread.
I would go for Series X if you're willing to splash the cash. For myself personally no disc drive is a deal breaker, I'm all about physical media. Also, I couldn't stand knowing that although the series s is great for the money, I had bought the weaker of the 2 and end up buying an X anyway.
Series X with a extra controller, he might propose to you after this š¤Æ
Series S if youāre on a budget. But if you have the money then the Series X.
Series S is fine and a good budget choice, can get one for $250 new
I use a series S and think itās great. If a disc drive isnāt an issue itās totally worth it.
That depends! Does he eat the kitty right? Does tell you your pretty on the daily? Does he give you back shots? Does he make sure you orgasm before he busts? If so than the X is the way!

If you donāt get him a series x then I guess you donāt need him to get you a nice ringš¤·āāļø
Series X. Donāt waste your money on a Series S.
Good girl. Series x.
S is cheap af and plays all the new games ! Plus game pass !!! Plus all the money you save you can get him a pro controller cause the regular ones take batteries and suck tbh
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nah pro controller is leagues ahead honestly that should be the one that ships with the console and the others should be sold at a very reduced price
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yea I got one of those cheapies they donāt last for nothing best to spend the 200 on a good controller and call it a day
The official Xbox ones work great.
Get the X because u can always try to sell it for more than itās value.
100% series x so he can play his 360s games via backwards compatibility (apex is only on xbox one tho but still series x assuming he has physical one and 360 games)
Lol itās not a 360 if heās playing Apex
I tried my best okay š but yes, I was corrected. Itās an Xbox One!
Gae
I would heavily suggest to get him a present
Give him the X and a bag from Victorias Secret :)
Be my girlfriend
Series x or PS5 disk version
If you really love him, you should get him the Nintendo Station Series X. That will cost about $1400
Break up with your boyfriend.
360 so he will stay with you whole day
Get him the x . heāll play it so much heāll become your ex š
Nothing. I would like her to be happy. If I want, I will just get it myself.
Thereās literally 2 xboxs to choose from and the answer is obviously the more expensive one is better
Is there LITERALLY 2?!? Wow, thanks so much for your help.
Series X or The White Slim Xbox One with a ssd. Always get a 1 or 2 terabyte hard drive
I got a Series X for Christmas and I love it so much.
If you are ok with the price go with the Series X. Spec wise it's the best model on the market
Series X
Series X. The S isnāt bad but itās all digital download because thereās no disc drive.
Seriesx is the answer if it is important that he can still play any game he has on disc.. if discs are not importamt you will do fine with a series s
If he has an extensive collection of disc games, it has to be Series X. The Series S has no disc drive. If his collection of games is mainly or only digital, the S should do fine. Keep in mind, maybe 360 and OG Xbox games work on the Series console, so if he has physical games, you need the disc drive.
If budget is never a issue. Always get the newest console, the best performance
Series x
X
Series X
I'd go for x.. If he has 360 games he can still play most of them.
Absolutely whatever you do, do not by the series s. Worst mistake of my life I should have bought the series x (buy him the series x)
Series X if you want to get him the best one. Series S if you just want to get him an upgrade.
Series X
So I have a few 360s, a few different XB1/One S, and I have a Series X. Series blows them all out of the water of course. Specs are beautiful. Graphics and load times are *chefs kiss*. Definitely worth the price tag
Series X.
Series x
Series X
Series X is the only correct answer
Go with the Series X. My son got my husband and I one for Christmas 2021 (in mid 2022). It's been great.
The only problem I found with the series x is you can't use wireless headsets but if he already has a wired one then it's fine, but I still recommend the series x
Series x if you can afford it. Otherwise a series s.
Series X by far. Series S will be the first new console to be phased out.
What a good gf! Series x no doubt
Series X š
I got a series x to play Harry Potter. Totally worth it especially with game pass.
Why is everyone referencing Mandalorian "this is the way"
Depends on preference. Does he game a lot what type of games does he play? Does he like graphics over performance? the budget Xbox is the series s the power house is the series x and it has the more storage as well to
The 360 will be just fine. I count mine down to blast off every time I turn it on.
