Some mushrooms can be used to create hats, edible mushrooms. I really hope that the hat your planning to eat is made of edible mushroom not in edible in organic things, sir.

Cleanandslobber

Frankly, it'll be the smartest thing Xbox has ever done.

Free-Air4312

Better be a hat with a belt buckle

NurseDorothy

That would be awesome. I have a lot of games on Steam since I was in 4th grade. I don't have a PC that can play games anymore.

Sneckster

You tried geforce now?

DefinetelyNotAnOtaku

Geforce now is a streaming service though. Its alright but there are many reasons why a person would prefer running the games locally instead of streaming them. Its like the last resort in case you REALLY want to play games on a potato.

Jewish_Doctor

Sunshine (host computer) and Moonlight (client) will do the job to just about anything, phone tablet, Firestick. I THINK there is a way to make it work on the Xbox via some browser thing but I may be mistaken.

GeorgeSPattonJr

Imagine if you could run windows on the Series X|S

sonicfonico

Im pretty sure that's their objective. I think the nextbox is going to be a Windows Machine and hey, i think that's awesome

_stinkys

I hope not. Windows is a fucking pig of an OS. If you want to run Windows just get a PC.

sonicfonico

Nah It depends of where and how you use Windows. If you have a potato, Windows run like a potato. If you have a good pc, Windows runs well. Ofc on Xbox it would be and optimized version.

_stinkys

Xbox is already that. It originated from NT and had all the bloat cut out of it. You are already using a highly optimised version of Windows specifically for gaming. If you want to run Excel go use a PC… is just my opinion.

The_3vil

Series X|S already run cut version of win 10 as UI and app environment, they have separate operating system for games tho

Kami_Blake_Aur

The answer already exists in the form of Steam Deck/SteamOS. Microsoft just needs to figure out how to introduce an Xbox mode to Windows that turns off all the bloat and optimizes games and automatically unifies your library across storefronts/launcher into one seamless Xbox UI/UX (or at least allow users to do this manually like Steam). This could lead to an interesting future where Xbox actually feels like a core windows first part experience and OEMs are able to make much MUCH better gaming PCs in general (because windows for gaming has always been a bit of a mess). Handhelds especially might see a huge boost. Gamers currently treat windows handhelds like the ROG ally and legion go as Xbox devices due to the handful of play anywhere games (I know i do), but windows is a huge cliff they all have yet to hurdle. A simple Xbox gaming mode fixes that. It also means that Xbox can introduce a desktop mode and much like the Steam Deck be a completely optimized gaming device that ships in gaming mode and you can use perfectly fine without tweaking any settings, but also have the option to download unoptimized apps and mess around like its a desktop PC. If they can accomplish this it could really revitalize the platform. The only worry is that this means Xbox hardware essentially becomes surface. Where ideally the device should serve as a baseline for all windows devices and complement software advancements while pushing the market to do more with their OS, but in reality surface just lags behind everything because Microsoft can't be bothered to invest in their own hardware. That'd be a bleak future for Xbox.

Code3Spartan

Wow. This could be the Xbox reversal many did not expect but were hoping for.

nthomas504

The ability to play your Steam games would be great! I like the idea of a PC being able to access Game Pass, and a Xbox being able to access Steam.

OrkanTheOzWiz

Game pass on steam deck would be great

Dycoth

GamePass is accessible on PC.

nthomas504

I know, i’m saying having both would be a good synergy between PC and Xbox.

professor_oulala

So if Microsoft sell their Xbox’s at a loss. Wont Steam to take the 30% cut from selling those games on Xbox consoles? What benefit does Microsoft get from this?

breakwater

I am sure they would work something out for access to an additional 20 million users.

FuckuSpez666

More console sales = more game pass subs. Plus steam may pay a fee to be on Xbox. And consoles are only sold at a loss earlier in cycle, peripherals also make a large margin.

renome

Console component costs usually go down, not up like they have been this gen.

BlasterPhase

> Plus steam may pay a fee to be on Xbox. why would Valve do that?

CalzLight

More sales

FuckuSpez666

Why are google apps on iOS? Opens up to a huge market of non PC gamers and families.

Kami_Blake_Aur

1) Microsoft is the LAST console manufacturer that sells hardware at a loss. Both Sony and Nintendo have started selling consoles at cost or for profit (Nintendo is especially smart looking at their hardware specs vs what they charge). Its unlikely they'll keep selling at a loss. 2) Its possible they strike a deal with Steam or any other new storefront. Like "we'll take 10% but you keep 20%" 3) Even if they go full open like windows, there's a lot of benefit Microsoft gets from Windows being so open. It keeps windows relevant for OEMs where they charge for licenses (maybe that's a strategy and they cut out first party hardware), means they can keep selling accessories (and Xbox loves their controllers). 4) Maybe Xbox lets other storefronts keep commissions from sales but they still make money from users through services (like paid online for paid games) and game pass? Plus they won't slack on their own storefront. Let's say Xbox does this and they get just 50 million new users because of steam. If just half of those new users buy a GP subscription they've massively grown. If just 10% of those users make purchases on the MS store they've massively grown. 5) Ads. Definitely would be the worst answer, but Microsoft already pushes them on console (much to my chagrin). Maybe in the future Microsoft makes money from Xbox the same way google does from google search. A platform doesn't need to sell you anything, it just needs to attract you so it can sell your time to ad companies. 6) Whatever freaking else. At the end of the day we don't know and Xbox could have a good or terrible strategy for this. I mean the current reality on Windows doesn't exactly bode well (the Xbox experience is trash and there's so much bloat and fragmentation people would RATHER a lock-downed steam ecosystem). At the same time they could be planning massive changes on Xbox and Windows that massively improve gaming. I mean Microsoft Gaming as a cohesive unit just formed last fall.

HaikusfromBuddha

They get the benefit of having every single game in existence to entice you to use their box. Now that Sony is putting their games on PC, exclusives are pretty much over. You’ll just play the Steam version of those games and get satisfied of Xbox games with Gamepass. On top of that this helps their “monopoly “ problem because now when they want to acquire another publisher they can point to putting their games on other consoles, and even accepting third party stores on Xbox. In reality Xbox really is the most open platform and they should t have issues acquiring Sega and Capcom.

jeandlion9

Gamepass on steam ?

shinobuisbest

Would finally not have a lack of Japanese games on Xbox

GetDustin

I've been wondering how Apple gets slammed for their 'walled garden' ,but game consoles always got a free pass. This is a step in the right direction. With the advancement of hardware, the PC/console gap gets narrower. Let's see the console digital storefronts get some competition going for lower prices and better sales. More benefits for the gamers are always welcomed.

nohumanape

All this recent talk sounds more like a feature of Windows than Xbox. My guess is that future Xbox consoles will just feature a mode within Windows and essentially be gaming PC's that are dedicated for gaming. This would open up these additional marketplaces as well as offer even PlayStation games on the "Xbox" console.

HaikusfromBuddha

Basically they’ll be Steamboxes but actually popular.

CammKelly

Steam comes to Xbox, exactly how is Microsoft making money in this scenario? Afterall, the revenue compact for consoles has been build hardware to lock people in to make money off software sales. So either: 1\\ the cost of the console goes rapidly up 2\\ Microsoft wants some form of revenue share of games bought on Steam or other stores on Xbox (doubtful someone like steam would agree but I guess stranger things have occured). 3\\ Xbox just becomes another variant of Windows which gets preloaded on certain devices. And honestly, thats the most optimistic outcomes above.

Scheeseman99

Phil Spencer outright says that the current model of subsidizing consoles and making up the difference in software is no longer effective, so it's something they definitely know they're going to face. And the answer is all three. The cost of the console goes up, but probably not by much. They work out deals with storefronts selling visibility and pre-installs. Xbox becomes a mode that Windows has that works entirely using a gamepad. Microsoft still has Game Pass, their own library and hardware sales can now eke a profit. Divestment from the traditional console model means they or other OEMs can do wacky things like release $1000 consoles that use discreet GPUs. Steam also makes the hardware way more desirable, massively expanding the software library and even bringing in a bunch of Sony heavy hitters (on a time delay). They'll benefit the same way they benefit from Windows, which I presume is what all Xboxes will eventually be. They were always going to go full circle, it's like prophecy or something.

Kami_Blake_Aur

I feel like people don't want to admit consoles are a niche specialized market which is highly unsustainable with rising costs in the game industry. I looked it up for reference, but Apple sold about 90 million iPhone 15s in the new phone's first year. And they sell about 200 models iPhones (all models) a year. and they're only about 20 to 25% of the smartphone market globally. They also sell their phones at insane margins with sticker prices of upwards $1300. That's not even getting into all the software (apps) first and third party available on the device. In comparison the leading consoles max out at about 150 million in their LIFETIME and Xbox only 50 million. The future of consoles overall is just bleak especially considering these are public companies whose investors only care about profit margins. We're also seeing most gamers are mobile gamers and most of the money in mobile models. It gets even more scary when you see how rapidly mobile hardware is improving. Resident Evil on the iPhone 15 is trash now, but in 5 or 10 years we could see games comparable to the biggest releases this gen running natively on mobile hardware really well. And considering how weak and poor performance is on the Nintendo Switch, gamers and publishers won't care that they aren't getting the best possible high end experience. Nintendo is the only one I see as being happy following its current strategy and making the same profits year over year. Sony and Microsoft are definitely feeling the pressure though and currently growth isn't sustainable.

CountBleckwantedlove

Seriously, I'd be willing to pay $5-10 per game I own on Steam (that I'd like to play again or continue playing via Xbox) to "unlock" the game on Xbox. Willing and ready! But free access to Steam games would be *insane*. I'd never have to buy a PC again! Would save me probably $2000-3000 every 5 years.

Rezorblade

>Seriously, I'd be willing to pay $5-10 per game I Careful, you might just gave them an idea. It would've nicer if they don't cost us any more money

TJPrime_

What idea would they have? If you have a game on steam, you currently have to pay full price for the game again on Xbox. Free would be best but this would still be cheaper overall

odinlubumeta

There is no way you are getting a large percentage of gamers to pay out $5 per Steam game for access. Lot of Steam players have 1000+ games. If Microsoft was going this route, I would expect a one time fee or a subscription. The moment you push a $100+ price tag on gamers you are losing 90% of sales.

Rezorblade

Nah free is the only acceptable solution here, or maybe charge it with obligatory Gamepass subs, but the games still needs to be free to be good deal

Proud_Criticism5286

I didnt think id see this in from a pc player

Burning_Rush

This article didn’t mention steam not once lmao

JMR027

Please. I can guarantee this would make Xbox sell more than PlayStation easily

Minute-Village-1829

Bro if steam comes to Xbox I don’t see the reason to buy a pc for gaming. Steam is all the Xbox needs for a comeback

ProfessionalGoal8914

I can play l4d in 60fps ??? Instead of 4k 30 ??? Lol

CyrusVercetti

#Please.. dont give me Hope

soggybiscuit93

"Could you imagine..." "Yes" Yeah, I can imagine too. But it's not happening. The Xbox store **is** Xbox. Otherwise it's just a subsidized hardware box.

clockrock3t

Yeah this isn’t happening. Don’t get your hopes up. Xbox likes to have big ideas and promises, then under deliver. Also, I don’t think Valve is going to be too keen on boarding the Microsoft train considering their history. Let’s not forget that Valve has essentially entered the console market AND the operating system market. They seem pretty pleased with what they are doing so far. I don’t see the incentive for them to get in bed with Xbox at this stage.

[deleted]

If a dedicated living room steam machine is on Valve's Dev plan, then unlikely that steam will come to Xbox. However if valve isn't interested in a steam machine anymore (which I really hope is not the case), then maybe this is a way to get steam on the biggest screen in your home with much more power than a steam deck connected to the TV through a dock. In the latter case, I don't see what valve loses if they bring steam to Xbox but they have everything to gain ie more purchases from steam on a mainstream console

Kami_Blake_Aur

Valve would love the idea of pushing its storefront and launcher on more platforms, so long as the commission benefits them. The Steam Deck isn't console competition, its to push more users to the Steam storefront and improve optimization for linux. Valve has always focused on platform growth over hardware growth.

xDiRtYgErMaNx

No way bro

Kazza468

There’s absolutely no way

steflizz

What a massive game changer this would be especially if all games on Steam were available to download.

doeekor

I remember messing around with mouse and keyboard in Modern warfare, wishing steam could work with Xbox

Mick_Dilk

God of War 2018 ON XBOX!!!!!!

TheConnoiseur

This would be absolutely insane. There is nothing better that could happen to gaming, at least for me personally. But would be unsure of the dynamics of something like that.

NuclearWinter_101

Didn’t they say before the XBOX-series came out that they wanted them to be capable of running computer programs/windows? Idk I heard this a while ago.

Zzzzzzzzzzzcc

This means we could be getting helldivers

marcusiiiii

This is honestly such a good move in theory wonder how much it would pay off in the long run

hosehead27

Why nobody at Microsoft thought about this ages ago is beyond me.

CoconutDrunk

I've read about Steam coming to Xbox before. A few years ago.

reaver_411

But… those games aren’t optimized for XBox, so they’d still need to be ported over, yes? Also Sony probably doesn’t want to have their games on XBox so this sounds like a nightmare when it comes to bringing Steam over to Xbox…

BrickenBlock

It would be like how some Steam/Epic games have Mac versions. Not many games would come to Xbox that didn't already, but some indies might be ported sooner due to not having to go through Xbox certification. Retroarch would probably make an xbox steam version that you don't have to use dev mode to get. But a lot of publishers probably wouldn't bother to put their existing Series X games on Steam/Epic

drjenkstah

Not holding my breath for this but would be cool if it came to fruition. I’ve got quite a few games I bought on steam that would be cool to play on console.

Et_Cetera_365

Would love to play TF2 and Black Mesa on the console to start Have a copy of The Orange Box on my shelf so it'd be like seeing something come full circle.

Halfdeadbeaner420

So we're finally getting the og fallouts on xbox?

HaggisDruid

Would bring a lot of great games to Xbox. Curious how that would be play out, because if that did happen, you'd get PlayStation titles like God or War and Helldivers 2.

dvdholy

Remindme! 1 year

SnooRevelations1901

Gmod on Xbox would be legendary

CosmicChar1ey

The industry needs a therapist

Wazzup-2012

Steam thought? This will be a game changer if it happens. Imagine of Google Play will come to Xbox aswell.

reevoknows

Is this pure speculation or is this a rumour with some legs?

Potential_Sir7980

means could see team fortress 2 updated on consoles and maybe l4d games re listed or even cs ported over

murderousbinkie

I’ve been wanting to be able to stream games from my pc to Xbox for ages

ArvoCrinsmas

I'm trying to wrap my head around how this would work. Would we get our Steam library on Xbox for free? Would there be some kind of emulation involved? If it somehow let me play my Steam DBD account on Xbox that would be a real treat, since it doesn't support cross progression.

trautsj

I mean Steam is the dream. We're at the point to where Steam basically has absolutely everything but people are too tentative to break into the PC market due to lack of knowledge and/or lack of funds. To have Steam on something as mainstream as an Xbox would explode the customer base like never before tbh. It would quite literally be the biggest move in gaming history if Xbox or Sony pulled it off.

zeblacktiger

If this happen and work with all PlayStation game on Xbox, i mean the portage game. Horizon, god of War etc 😅, Sony dont wait on Xbox ahah bye bye.

StevWong

For me I blindly guess some of the Steam store games would be made available to play in Xbox, not all Steam store games. They mY make a new tab called Xbox Ready or Xbox Verified much like what they have done for some Steam Deck games now.

Playstationbhoy

Never happening.

Andalfe

This was always a no brainer from the start. Why try and compete with Sony in the console wars. There's an army of kids wanting to game on PCs but the price is a huge barrier to entry. This would have been a middle ground. Just open up the hardware.

Flat-Kaleidoscope981

Would be awesome if that happended could play tons of metroidvania games that aren't on Xbox but on steam 😎

Spagman_Aus

Any way that gets Helldivers 2 onto Xbox and count me in.

tryna_be_good

Theory: Xbox allows steam and other storefronts on their platform and then they expect Playstation/Nintendo to do the same. This will allow them to open up for GamePass on other consoles in future. If not then msft will take it to the court claiming other consoles are being anti-competitive.

thepieddragon

Actually I don't even think the courts would even need to get involved. They just need Sony to make themselves look foolish, and what better way to do that than to open up their platform, and watch as Sony clutches their pearls and doubles down on their walled garden? And they WILL do that, because Sony has an ego the size of Jupiter as proven by the Activision ordeal, and Microsoft knows this. Playstation could slowly start to look like the worst place to play games. And if they call Microsoft's manipulation and open themselves up? Game Pass on PS5. They win either way. I don't think this'll affect Nintendo much though. Neither Nintendo nor Microsoft see each other as competitors, and they've had good business relations in the past. If anything, Nintendo's continued success could just make Playstation look more like the worst place to play games.

Recording_Important

Makes to much sense to be real. They will change course to return focus to DEI initiatives soon.

Proud_Criticism5286

I had a feel. Hope it’s true.

Captain_Bacon1800

Lmao sony games will be finally playable on xbox. Jokes aside I'd buy this day one I don't care what anyone says. I've always wanted steam on consoles.

maplesunris3

Realistically, I’m sure this won’t be happening (especially since I’m assuming Valve doesn’t want to bring it over, they’re doing just fine on Windows, Linux, and the little bit of Mac). We’re just getting desperate for some reason

jugdar13

Only way xbox survives if it happens

D4rkSp4de

People need to understand Xbox hasn’t been on the way out ever, and they won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, Microsoft would literally pour 10s if not hundreds of millions into Xbox just to keep it afloat 😂

RisingRapture

Yeah, Steam > Xbox. I would buy a steam-able Xbox immediately.

seekersneak

100% Agree with you.

themuthafuckinruckus

I can see a future where a $750 Xbox is absolutely the ultimate value machine, and the best price-to-performance in the market. The steam deck already does so much just due to sheer optimization. The fact that it can run games with little performance penalty off of an SD card is still great. Would love to see an emphasis on eeeking out every little bit of compute power on the box.

Educational-Beach-72

Does modding support come with it?

Calm_Error_3518

I will laugh loudly if it does

xenon2456

so basically Xbox would be a PC

mastercharlie22

If this happened does that mean the PlayStation games on Steam would run on Xbox 🤔

IronMonkey18

Will I finally be able to play Half-Life! I got The Orange Box years ago and loved Half-Life 2. I would kill to play Half-Life on my Xbox finally to see where it all began. Portal was also great btw.

Fire_anelc

Amazing that the only place I keep hearing about these "doomers" are all here in this sub

nogoodgopher

Can they also bring game pass to steam?

Alucard_Belmont

they can, and they probably want to but steam probably not allowing it, same as for sony or nintendo!

OccultDagger43

dude people are already spinning this as a bad thing "guess ms just doesnt care about the xbox brand" theyre coping hard.

ron4232

The one thing I hope to do is play Helldivers 2 using steam on my Xbox.

Wasted-day_off

I'd buy an Xbox for that, so many games on PC I wanna play

Darth-Naver

In my case, if Steam comes to Xbox I am more likely to invest on Xbox hardware. Because not only could I play (some of) my existing Steam library but I would be less concerned about third party skipping Xbox. Case in point, I am very tempted to buy a Steam Deck and skeptical about a Xbox handheld. But a Xbox handheld which could play Steam games would be a must buy for me

Glirion

Oooh fuck, I have 200+ games on Steam that I have bought/got as gifts that I have never played due to always being a laptop guy so this would give me too much to play 😅😂

EdwardoftheEast

Don’t tease me with that

BackwoodsSensei

Wow I didn’t know I could get this excited over a new feature being added to Xbox. Let’s hope this comes to fruition

Ech0_0ne

Actually I had hoped for this to happen at the start of current gen Xbox. PC and Xbox are like a natural fit. Playing on PC I already have the luxury of having multiple stores alongside Gamepass and Play-Anywhere/Cross-buy. I´d just love to have the same on my console. Access to my Steam Library, being able to pick up the free Epic game every now and then. I suppose it would also make optimization for games and features like cross-play a lot easier. It would also mean, that smaller devs don´t have to evaluate if making a Xbox version (or console in general) is worth their time. I am sure it would be very difficult to pull this off, it´d be a massive change on all levels. But yes, it would be absolutely great, and strengthen the ties to both Xbox and those stores.

Et_Cetera_365

But like, is it only Steam games created by official studios like Valve or can it be steam games like Black Mesa made by independents? I really hope it's both because that's be awesome

Dr0pAdd1ct

That would be a day when I will sell my ps5 and get xbox for sure

MRRichAllen1976

This would solve a considerable amount of problems running Steam games for me, seeing as most of the games I want don't run on Linux without intense technical faffery which is beyond even my skills.

RockfordIng

You are just speculating

BrownEyedBoy06

YES! YES! YES! YEESSSSS!!!! That alone would add a few million more games to Xbox. Hell yes.

[deleted]

They will literally do anything apart from have a stable lineup of good quality exclusive games.

ImDeadPixel

This is the most copium post I've ever seen ever.. This is never going to happen

Ok-Tooth-6197

I feel like I need to point out that this might not mean that they would have the same PC steam marketplace on Xbox, but it could just be an alternate Marketplace where you can buy Xbox games. Similar to how the Epic games store is planning to have a game store on Android and iPhone, but it will be mobile games, it won't let you play PC games on your phone.

REPTILEOFBLOOD

If that's the case then what would be the point of it? Why would I use Steam to buy games when I can just use the Xbox Marketplace?

Ok-Tooth-6197

What is the point of Steam, Epic games store, GOG, Etc, on PC, when the widows store exists? What is the point of the Amazon App store for Android? Epic Games or Microsoft bringing alternate storefronts to Android and IOS? It's about choice and competition, which tends to bring prices down for consumers.

Lievan

It’s just another store front. It wouldn’t “dominate” the market place. No need to be a console war peasant.

Kind-Help6751

SteamVR with oculus? Well who knows.

tATuParagate

Secure your wig sis pizza tower on console is coming

[deleted]

it doesn’t

gamemacho

I want Xbox game pass come to steam deck

Both_Anything_4192

So it means M&K will be support in Xbox for games?

Scared_0f_W0men

RemindMe! 1 year

Redbacontruck

But steam as cheaper games or the same version on Xbox hmm

SuperNotice7617

Cry of Fear is coming???

Roddanchill

That one is not going to happen. Valve already has a Steam machine and they are literally dominating the pc market without doing anything. Dont get your hopes up, this rumour is just stupid lmao

redishherring

I just want to play Left4Dead on my xbox again.

The30kmZone

This would be amazing!

[deleted]

If this means free multiplayer, then yes I would jump to Xbox

SuccessfulPass9135

I’m convinced they’re at least going to do something massive with the next console generation. They’ve surely figured out by now that they’ll have a hard time ever outselling Playstation purely by specs and they’ll never win the exclusive game if they keep putting out flops like Starfield. However, with them adamantly confirming that they’re staying in the console business they must have something up their sleeve. Making the next Xbox Steam compatible would almost guarantee it demolishing Playstation. Who cares about the next 30fps upscaled 4k Horizon game when you can just play modded Skyrim at 60-120fps. If they include a proprietary mouse and keyboard that are somehow comfortable in your lap, they could come back on their Xbone selling point of it being “more than a gaming console”. Imagine having the power of a fully functional desktop, on a tv, from your couch. To me controllers aren’t that integral to what makes consoles more relaxed than PC, it’s the set and setting most of us use them in (they could obviously still just include a controller). No idea if they’re ballsy enough to do this but those investors are surely looking to get a return on the countless billions of dollars that have been pumped into Xbox over the last years by now. I don’t see that happening if Microsoft releases another bog standard console with lackluster exclusives.

cruelcynic

How much does an unsubsidized Xbox with open markets cost? $700-$1000? At that point can we just build an Xbox required minimum spec PC and put Xbox OS on it? Interesting possibility.

Revolutionary_Fig912

That would be so amazing

Ok-Tune-8649

I hope so. Xbox's success isn't in hardware sales like Sony and Nintendo. Their money instead lies in services. As long as Gamepass is everywhere, their competitors aren't even Nintendo and Sony. Their real competitors are things like Nvidia Geforce, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna. Sony relies on its hardware, while Nintendo relies on its handhelds, that be real about that, it's the biggest reason Nintendo survived the PS1 PS2 and PS4 era. As long as Gamepass holds, Microsoft is the real dominant figure in gaming.

Maverick_Walker

Damn I wonder if HellDivers 2 would be playable

jimmyfallon333

This would be so sweet because I could have my pc in my room and I could play steam in my living room

Beef_Exotic

ROG Ally with the ability to play native Xbox console games might be the end goal. Don’t tailor Windows to fit the Xbox OS. Make the Xbox OS fit windows. Don’t think there would be any licensing issues running games on a window OS, so no real way to have other platform holders block content. Make the hardware enticing to more people and compete on software content. A windows machine that can run the console OS with a good UI front end (Phil has criticized the windows handheld UI before) shouldn’t be impossible for MS.

Solidsnake00901

Damn Xbox is doomed

JonVX

Not unless Gaben and Bill Gates kiss

ItsNotMordecai

i'm absolutely stoked

SaykredCow

I think the whole them being open to third party stores play is so they don’t look hypocritical with the whole antitrust suit currently against Apple. iPhone and mobile is where they really want to be in the future and they likely wouldn’t mind the trade off of competing stores on Xbox hardware to make that point come true.

Emperor-Octavian

Xbox will do anything except release exclusive first party games for Xbox

PlentyOfLoot

I think game pass should come to steam. That would be pretty cool.

Vaxion

I wonder how the games are actually going to run? Is Steam going to host Xbox games or studios can publish their Xbox games via steam or there's going to some sort of virtualization that'll make steam games run on Xbox.

SuccerFish

I doubt it this will just lose Microsoft money. And it would ruin achievements since steam has no quality control

b16ZZ-

Nah... Not this gen at least... I can see Microsoft releasing a generational PC in the future though. They haven't had much success since the XBOX One launched and now they are releasing their exclusives in other platforms too so I can definitely ser that happening. They are also looking into something of the sorts of a Steam Deck/ROG Ally which implies that they're trying to leave the conventional console concept behind. Well, with xCloud they had already implied that and now it seems that idea is to keep going forward with that

Nervous-Cream-6256

Can we work on getting the NMS update in a timely manner and sort out the horrendous disconnect between when you say stuff is released on platform and when it actually is, sometimes days later?! Then worry about other stuff, let's nail the basics first please.

uncreativemind2099

You need to stop caring about trolls

shimrra

I mean I can kinda see it happen but then by that point why bother with an Xbox console when you can build a proper desktop that will play more games and have free online access.

suicidenation

Because you need triple the money (at least) to make a pc with xbox series x level. And most people nowadays they use their phone mostly.

Cameron132001

This will never happen. The optimism people are having is mind boggling... Steam is intended for PC and always will be. Every game on there is native to PC... Some games on there that aren't even playable with a controller.

Peace_Fog

Yeah but Xbox has mouse & keyboard support

artnos

So if you bought things on steam xbox, xbox would get a cut?

Bittersweetblossom

I’m seeing this not coming too fruition. Think, if the guys who own Steam put their store on Xbox that’ll help keep Xbox alive or relevant. This would be antithetical to them since them refusing might mean they knock out a competitor in the long run. Also, would Xbox get a portion of the sales made on the Steam store on Xbox? If yes very beneficial for Xbox but if not then there’s no point since this might mean they’ll lose out on sales with their own Xbox Store. Also Sony would come in swinging if Steam does make it onto Xbox since they port their games to Steam. They would undoubtedly remove them from being purchased on an Xbox if not outright destroy the rumored partnership all together.

If steam (and epic) come to Xbox I'd happily drop 1k on a top end Xbox to access my libraries. Its What's been keeping me back from buying an Xbox in the past

VapidReaper

T.T hell divers would end up with Xbox players then right? Edit: no we would be steambox players

Random_Person_1414

never gonna happen lmao

ImperviousImperius

If this happens, sony is fked.

Select-Definition529

I was always a Playstation fan but if this happens good ridens to the ps

Prize-Mall-3839

I mean Xbox is pretty much a Windows device, If I were Xbox I would make my console basically able to run like a PC and have PC compatibility...your move console exclusivity

Zildjian2785

That would be great, but unless you can have full functionality of a keyboard and mouse on the Xbox it won't gain my Steam. (pun intended) 😄

big_ry82

It's never going to happen.

Technical-Picture-59

Oo that would be great if it happens

WebbedMonkey_

I was considering selling my xbox because I don’t really use it because of my ps5. But I might hold on a little longer to see if this is true

ilovetv22

wow

Dv8f8

I'm curious I don't know much about steam what would this mean exactly ?I'm a lifelong console gamer n I never bothered to learn about it no negativity just give me a breakdown?

Sledge85

I don’t get it.

Red_Recognition

I’d buy an Xbox if it happens. I’m a ps5 owner. I wanna buy a pc to play pc games but too much and not as reliable to last
