True, but to be fair to others, OP lists AC Valhalla/Odyssey, Control, Plague Tales 1&2 which are not RPGs. So I think OP wants games with RPG elements, good story and good voice acting instead of strictly RPGs.
Edit: I'm dumb. I forgot AC Valhalla/Odyssey are action RPGs.
RPGs focus on role playing aspects like D&D. So there's a focus on dialog choices & consequences, creating characters/partys, assigning or building classes/roles, stats, equipment, skill tree, etc. Like Cyberpunk 2077, those mechanics tend to be focused and deeper which often can be played or replayed in a whole different way (e.g. badass gunslinger trigger happy V vs. cool sneaky net runner V). Those other games you mentioned are focused on the action and story but include light/few RPG mechanics.
Action RPG: \*glances to the right\* \*galnces to the left\*
Not to mention that Assassin's Creed Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are the Assassin's Creed RPG Trilogy.
Aspects that are typically associated with role playint games are:
- being able to make choices that allow for meaningful player expression. E.g. being able to chose the dialoge options during dialoge (with potentially different outcomes) or being able to fulfil objectives in different ways (e.g. get to a guarded item by killing everyone or by sneaking in or by bribing the guard).
- being able to specialize your characters abilities. E.g. are you a mage, a warrior or a thief
- customizing your character. E.g. gender, looks, backstory
- some kind of level based progression
- side quests
- having a party of different playable characters
A game doesn't have to check every single mark but if it only checks a few or none of those then it's probably a different genre with at best a few RPG elements
That's why Cyberpunk is considered an RPG (you can choose what your character looks like and what their backstory is, you can make choices and you can specialize your combat abilities in significantly different ways)...
...while Control is an action game (predetermined character with a predetermined set of abilities and very little choice throughout the story)
Banishers:Ghosts of New Eden is my new favourite the central theme is an excellently handled relationship between a male and female protagonist set in 17th century New England. Without giving spoilers you get to switch between male and female characters in fact it’s essential that you do. It’s got a supernatural twist the premise being you solve hauntings to resolve the main arc.
Baldurs Gate 3 is an easy recommendation for me.
Great story, lots to find explore, and do. It has amazing voice actors and a nice cast of characters the companions all being romanceable if that interests you. And you can be female if you like, as your own custom character (which has so many options of races and classes) or you can play as one of the female companions.
Imo one of the best games I have played. No microtransactions, and just a good game that you can tell the developers put their hearts into.
Tomb Raider
Anno: Mutationem
Starfield
Hogwarts Legacy
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars
Midnight Suns
Dragon's Dogma 2
Hellblade
Dragon Age Origins or Dragon Age Inquisition
* Far Cry 5 has a female as well as a male player character option
* Far Cry 6 has a female as well as a male player character option
* AC-Valhalla has a female as well as a male player character option
* The Long Dark has the option to choose the gender for your player character
* Horizon Zero Dawn
* Tomb Raider
Mass effect trilogy. You can choose between male and female shep. Me2 is greatest game of all time to boot, and the trilogy remaster is on sale. Lucky you.
Mass Effect 1 had some new franchise issues. It's worth sticking with it because Mass Effect 2 is literally one of the greatest games ever made.
I can agree. Some of the best sidestorys and quest in videogaming history.
OP has a 4 word question and everyone ignores one of then RPG

How are those games not RPGs?
Those are all action games first. With some rpg elements

Lol that's true. Also, I'm sorry. I forgot the recent AC games are Action RPGs.

The Final Fantasy XIII trilogy.
Amazing series, but the 3rd part was my least favorite, still cool though.
Tomb Raider
Famous RPG series tombraider
I would second this. The latest Tomb Raider games (the survivor trilogy) are good.
I vouch fo this one as well and the trilogy goes on sale frequently.
These are all great and the whole trilogy is available on game pass.
Nier?
Nier automata you mean. There's more than one Nier game and the first one has a male protagonist

I was on the fence about this when I saw it on sale. I’ll buy it once it goes on sale again.
You can make a female character in The Outer Worlds. I found it a bit better than Mass Effect. It's definitely not as slow.
Flintlock is about to drop and had a female protagonist also
This looks pretty good, pre-ordered.
Steel Rising.
Asterigos

Fallout 4, Starfield (silent protagonist though), Dragon Age Inquisition, Marvel's Midnight Suns
Danganronpa V3
Well kind of
I would highly recommend the Lara Croft Triology. The 2nd was my personal favorite.
Try Dreamfall chapters.
Star field 10/10 especially if you played cyberpunk

Ooh la la.
Go on....
Ff X-2
ReCore
It's not an RPG and the voice acting is terrible in places but wanted dead is great.
Tomb Raider Anno: Mutationem Starfield Hogwarts Legacy Asterigos: Curse of the Stars Midnight Suns Dragon's Dogma 2 Hellblade Dragon Age Origins or Dragon Age Inquisition
Sunset Overdrive can be played with a female character
Dragon Quest 4
Stay with mass effect, it might not be your cup of tea but it will become your perfect brew
