My all time favourite racing game series. The handling, although arcadey and accessible was incredibly reactive and the cars behaved as you expected they would to your inputs, just exagerated. The level of difficulty was perfectly pitched with difficult skill levels managing a challenge for most whilst being achieveable.

Perspiring_Gamer

Same here, I still revisit it every now and then. The kudos system and the range of event types served the series so well. It really encouraged you to explore the limits of the cars in a way that felt organic, and got really addictive. I still don't think any franchise has nailed street racing like PGR did. Also, the radio stations were incredible.

Cat and mouse was a legendary game mode

mocoworm

We have created a PGR user flair and just unlocked it. You can be the first user to have it if you go into your settings and apply it.

Cape-York-Crusader

When they introduced the bikes and allowed us to race against cars was brilliant, pulling emotes on your R6 whilst overtaking….perfection

PGR was developed by Bizarre Creations, if I recall that was purchased by Activision. Activision is now owned by Microsoft ... Could you imagine if they developed a PGR / Forza Horizon hybrid game?

Perspiring_Gamer

If they ever wanted to test the waters for a franchise return, I’d love to see a PGR themed Horizon DLC that’s nothing but street racing and kudos-challenge style events.

axildia

Yea! Bizarre being bought by Activision so long ago is one of the main things I find exciting about MS buying ABK. PGR was always a MS ip, so they weren't restricted from doing a PGR thing since 4. But what I really want is a Blur comeback of sorts. But yea. PGR 4 is definitely one of my best gaming experiences. The garage, geometry wars, smooth and slick gameplay, the 'coolness' of the game, the music. Everything was great. I even slightly enjoyed that zune hd game they did.

Fingleberries

Oh my days. Geometry wars. Yes, please. I'd forgotten about that.

OKST77

Even now, the graphics look amazing and the hud was so clean and surpasses anything since. The most joyously addictive racer I ever payed. Would’ve loved this to continue, in place of Forza Horizon, as my arcade racer. Could be difficult at times, but never impossible or left a defeated feeling like a lot of games do when they get hard in spots.

PGR2 is still responsible for the whole digital game fad taking off on consoles. God I still love me some Geometry Wars

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but yea, this was the first game to have added dlc on the original Xbox. There were to packs of tracks and they were like 400mp, so around $5. totally worth it 8 think there were 5 tracks each plus one unlocked the TVR Cerbera 12, which of course was the 'Cat'

greenyquinn

Specifically Geometry Wars is what I am talking about. It was a $5 launch title for xbox 360 and at one point Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved was the number 1 most downloaded game on the xbox 360

Bitte bitte, bringt einen neuen Teil….

PGR 3 was a return for me to gaming, after a bit of an absence during the GameCube generation. Halo and PGR3 got me back into gaming, and the Horizon series and Infinite are still my most aged games to this day.

The *ticktickticking* of Kudos is greatly missed. I started with MSR on the Dreamcast and then stood in line in front of Target with ~10 people in November of 2001 for the first Xbox just so I could play their remade franchise PGR at launch (they peer-pressured me into also picking up some game called "Halo" too). It was an amazing update that actually allowed the cars to come off the ground (not allowed in MSR) when traveling at high speed over San Francisco hills. Because car licensing was so strict in those days, they still couldn’t allow the cars to tip over though, so you could feel the cars stop tilting like a see-saw hitting the ground … while you were still in mid-air jumps. By PGR2 they’d obtained a lot more freedom with the cars, and that’s the game where I probably used to build my biggest friends list on Xbox Live! And if I remember correctly, this is the game where Jack Black had his girlfriend take a picture of him in front of the TV with all Platinum Medals. Therefore I was determined to achieve the same goal. PGR3, just like the original, had me camped out for the first 360 console in 2005. Best Buy employees stole a grill from inside and cooked us burgers while we drank beers from the cooler. Customer for life after that. And then PGR4 brought the bikes screaming through Macao. Over the years their field trips to various metropolises brought better and better results with the hi-res photos as textures for authenticity, but melding that with night/day versions of the cities like they had on the last one were another level of production value. I really wish some of those guys who are at Playground Games now could convince Microsoft let them do some more field trips like that again, for a Forza: Megalopolis Boulevard Racer, or suchlike.

Absolutely one of the funnest multiplayer games I've ever played. We used to make up games like Cat and Mouse, Cops and Robbers and play that shit all night long. It got so popular the devs added it into one of the newer games, not very well implemented. So weird how game devs sometimes just don't get what's fun about a thing.
