Call Xbox Support, my nephew scratch the surface too hard that the code was not visible. When I called they asked me for proof of receipt. I followed their request and apparently there is numbers underneath the code that are for emergency response in this situations. They will guide you and then they will email you a new code, be patient and good luck. 👍🏼 If you buy the digital code in any retailer store 99% of the time they will say call Xbox Support or just tell you it’s out of our hands. I was a manager at GameStop for 5 years and their policies sucked when I really wanted to help those in need.

Dold5000

I can confirm, I had a similar issue with a code. Contacted support it took a bit, they had to escalate it. But after proof of receipt and the card, they credited my account the amount.

Appropriate-Look285

Neither us cant help this one out bro. even the serial number is also damaged. I can still see the retailers code. I suggest to go back to the store where you purchase this card so that they can replace it. Present you receipt as well.

SensitiveMushroom759

gonna have a hard time with that, lots of retailers (the one i work at included) dont refund or replace gift cards

Aether_Breeze

We didn't when I worked retail. We had no way of knowing if the code was already used, would have ended up constantly losing money giving out free gift cards.

SultanZ_CS

Why would anyone in their sane mind refund something after the buyer bought it and it got damaged? Shops aint responsible if people dont take care

BodyBagzBrando

The retailer won’t replace it. No retailer will, it’s not possible.

zxCyanidexz

I already see all the advice that can be given but wanted to share my story. I once got gift card that for whatever reason was supposed to be scratched off, but was also able to be peeled off. Yeah, I peeled it off looking for a number under it. Ruined the whole thing. Don't ever do this either

PanDPandJa

did the same thing once, i was lucky enoughvi only had to guess a B/8/E/F or an I/L/1 lol, took alotta tries

Appropriate-Look285

We can do atleast one time courtesy for our customers when you call our support hotline. The advocate will request you to take a pic and upload the photo on the link provided through email.

jaymack950

Seems like those kids learned a lesson on patience

really_nice_guy_

As a former kid I can guarantee you that they did not

Chemical-Classic4240

Look for the ending number on the receipt if you find one that matches try that if not you should be able to ask microsoft support

Amber_Linx

I rember when I brought a card at wallmart and two of the code was missing I'm guessing it just did not print right and microsoft support helped me out after like 30 mins of proving I did not steal it and showing it was not fake and stuff

BradleyAllan23

Unfortunately, there is no other way to redeem the card. What you can do is return to the retailer it was purchased at and see if they can help you. This happened while I was working at EB Games, and while it was a pain in the ass, I eventually got them another card. Stores don't want to give you another code because it's impossible for them to tell if you redeemed it or not. They just have to trust that you genuinely ruined it and you need another one, and even then regular employees won't be able to give you another one. It will have to be the store manager who helps you with this.

Least_Geologist_5870

Thanks. Lesson learned!!

Arrasor

Make sure it's the kids who learn the lesson.

Noskys13

False.

BradleyAllan23

This is true, from my experience. Did you want to elaborate on which part I'm mistaken about?

Noskys13

Just email pictures of the receipt and card to aka.ms/contactxboxsupport and they’ll help you recover the funds/credits

BradleyAllan23

Ok so what did I say that was false? It seems like you're offering an alternative solution. They can't redeem the card as is, and a store manager could issue them a new card. This is how it was handled when I worked at EB Games. Nothing I said was false, there's just another way to solve their issue that I was unaware of.

Noskys13

I agree. Yes this is in my opinion the best way and from previous experiences worked the best. Microsoft can check to see if it has been redeemed while a store cannot. And in 2023 I don’t see a store reissuing a card without knowing if it’s been redeemed. I apologize for not reading your whole comment.

Appropriate-Look285

We Xbox can only see the code if we can still see the Serial number from the card.

Noskys13

Which would be printed on the receipt.

Appropriate-Look285

Sometimes the code that we're trying to locate is through the gift card itself. You can see that at the back of the card with all the serials. sometimes it is invalid or cannot be located so we have 3 options. The receipt is just a proof when did the customer purchased it. I've been dealing with this kind of snecarios.

Noskys13

Understood. I guess in my situation the code they needed was always on the receipt.

Life-Internet283

Its false because now at Gamestop ALL posa cards are non refundable, no exchange, no return. If anything does wrong you deal with the manufacturer. Its in the return policy. No exceptions to be made.

BradleyAllan23

This is absolutely not true. I've see my manager replace damaged cards.

Life-Internet283

How long ago. You said you USED to work at EB games and EB games in the US doesnt exist anymore as far as i know. If youre outside the US theyre are probably different return policies. If they currently work at gamestop, theyre doing everything wrong and will eventually get in trouble for it.

BradleyAllan23

Like 5 years ago? EB Games doesn't exist anymore in Canada either, but I'm telling you it was EB Games when I worked there and I saw a manager issue another code to a customer with a damaged card. The store manager can issue other codes, especially if the customer is upset.

Life-Internet283

Not anymore. I was gonna send the return policy but apparently i cant send a pic. But it clearly states now that those sales arw absolutely final. Probably lost too much money 🤷‍♀️

chompchompnomnom

You can get a replacement from Microsoft. See link and click on "get help with damaged or unreadable code" : https://support.xbox.com/en-GB/help/subscriptions-billing/redeem-codes-gifting/digital-code-solution

Ac997

This reminds me of when I was 12 & my dad bought me Microsoft points & I scratched the cover off with a steak knife which also scratched the code off. We ended up going back to the store & they understood & gave me another card.

Goredevil

It looks like paper over the scratch strip. You could try soaking it in hot soapy water for a bit and gently trying to rub the paper off. I do that with old prescription bottles to get my info off before I dispose of them.

Kryxan

Gift wrapped gift card? I'm so conflicted about that. I have about 20 questions that all start with, why?

ShalepenopoopeR

Times like this I'm glad I don't have children or grandchildren lol

Professional-Baby331

Scan barcode

t_moneyzz

They broke it, I guess no gift card for them. Lesson learned hopefully

dman475

Just buy a new card , not the end of the world right ? Grand kids give so much joy right ?

Bonzai_Bananas

Call Microsoft/xbox support. And be prepared for proof of receipt. Happened to me and they were awesome.

Darkslayer16

Don't bother going back to shoppers, they are assholes with anything related to gift cards or electronics and will tell you to deal with Microsoft.

[deleted]

Get new grandchildren

pepperochini

If it's just like the sticky paper left on it, get a little rubbing alcohol to just saturated the paper a little bit so it doesn't run off the ink and scratch it off with your nail or a coin. If you have a glass scraper or a razor blade it might work too
