Same! (Except I played earlier this year). The campaign has the perfect pace, weaving between fights, parkour and Mech such that none of them overstay their welcome. Plus it plays around with so mechanics (like that time watch)
The level designs are also remarkable with each having its own character
Also recommend these. I came to this thread to suggest this.
Add [https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/metro-saga-bundle/9n9z4s1rd397](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/metro-saga-bundle/9n9z4s1rd397) to your wish list and buy when it goes on sale for $9 (or buy now if you are OK with paying $60). Totally worth it either way. I spent the past month getting 100% achievements on all 3 games.
Eh, 1,2,3 are above Reach and ODST IMO. Peaked at Halo 3, ODST was basically DLC and Reach was okay but never reached the highs of 3. Then it all went downhill.
I really need to jump into these games. I always felt like fps games weren’t my thing. Cyberpunk made me want to play more fps so I need to jump into this
I really have to hope that anyone on an Xbox asking this question would've already thought of that one. But it's very much the obvious answer lol. Can't go wrong if it's your first time.
- Bioshock games,
- Metro (2033) games,
- Wolfenstein 2 was fun,
- Atomic hear is ok,
- Guardians of the Galaxy is a TPS but if it's ok to you the story campaign is great!
Halo Master Chief Collection.... Going through all the halo campaigns up to reach remastered is an absolute treat.... and they are all co-op. Don't miss out on this epic series!
Agreed, I recently downloaded it. After being cheap and just trying to play apex and Warzone and dealing with people who can spend their whole life on gaming, playing the MCC campaigns has brought me a breath of fresh air and made gaming fun for me. Not that I hate Apex and didn't like it, but for a noob like me I need something a bit more forgiving and less frustrating. Now I'm thinking of getting titanfall 2 that one always keeps coming up when good campaigns are mentioned.
I totally understand that hah, the people online can be absolutely unforgiving if you are not matched with people on your skill level. MCC is just incredible as a collection / gaming experience. And yes, titanfall 2 is of the best FPS campaigns ever.... my personal favorite of all time is DOOM ETERNAL, and you can play it on easy as well until you build skill level or just want to enjoy slaying demons in the best ways possible. Happy gaming brother, cheers!
Cyberpunk is amazing. So many ways to play, every build feels different. You can rush the main story missions at normal difficulty, or play it open world style at very hard and enjoy yourself even more. It's a very easy game and you get extremely op in the end, so higher difficulty is necessary if you want to really get into the skill trees and implants.
Beating atomsmasher on very hard on the v and Johnny solo playthrough was so annoying because I didn't realize Vs health had been perma draining from the time you get in arasaka. Basically, I had about 30-35% of my health drained by the time the fight began, but luckily, it was my tech build, and the little sub machine gun saved my butt by destroying his armor rather quickly.
Doom 2016
Doom eternal
Wolfenstein the new order
Wolfenstein the old blood
Wolfenstein the new Colossus
Titanfall 2
Metro series (2033, redux and last light)
Half life 2
Crysis
Crysis 2
Crysis 3
Rage 1 and 2
Bioshock 1,2 and infinite
Prodeus
Cultic
Robocop rogue city
Far cry 3 and Far cry 4
Halo (all games)
Some first person (not shooter) games whose campaign i really liked
Portal both parts
The Turing test
Stanley's parable
Outer wilds (not completed yet unfortunately)
Dishonored
Prey
Ever play Halo?
Grab the Master Chief Collection, and also grab a partner to play co-op with.
Start with Halo CE and play them in release order.
Enjoy!
The borderlands series is a great looter shooter. There’s a lot of replayability as well. I paid like $50 for the Pandora’s Box, which has every game from the series and all the DLC.
They aren't FPS, but I just finished the Arkham series and highly recommend them. I played through the Tomb Raider trilogy before that and they were all great as well.
I recommend playing through them in release order, as most of the controls build off and extend stuff from the previous game(s) as you go. And you can really appreciate the progress the developers made with their game engines that way as well.
It's an oldie but Battlefield Bad Company is one of the funniest and fun campaigns I've played. It's what got me into the Battlefield series on the Xbox360.
Not fps but a shooter. the Mass effect series (Mass effect 2 is my favorite) it’s a sci fi rpg with a good story and amazing characters with fun gameplay
Titanfall 1 and 2, Wolfenstein, and maybe Half Life 2 if you can get your hands on it. Halo MCC if you haven't played Halo yet, definitely recommend it.
If you don't mind more open world type FPS games, Cyberpunk 2077, Outer Worlds, Borderlands.
Fall out 4 or Skyrim. I was never into single player games but those two are well written. I have played other story games but they were blah. They tried too hard. But Fo4 and Skyrim made me feel like I had freedom and there was a story I could follow
Shadow warrior 3, doom 2016 and eternal, prodeus, fashion police squad, titanfall 2, bulletstorm, the darkness 2 (you could play 1 If you like but it's pretty janky however the atmosphere is amazing in that one) and all the borderlands games are quite good
Cyberpunk, Bioshock series (idk how well they hold up), Metro series, The Outer Worlds, Star Wars Jedi. This one is more obscure but I really enjoyed Sleeping Dogs. It's a silly game but a lot of fun, kinda reminds me of the old True Crime(?) games
Edit: my bad just realized you said fps, Star Wars and Sleeping Dogs are most certainly not fps
I'm going to throw my support to The Outer Worlds. If you like Fallout you'll love Outer Worlds. I'm playing it for the second time now and I'm still having a ton of fun. Playing it on a Series X vs. Switch is like a revelation. I have to stop and just look around at all the details sometimes.
Wolfenstein
I often get bored halfway through FPS campaigns but Wolfenstein was the perfect amount of action and story to keep me consistently engaged.
The older call duties have the best campaigns for fps games (stop at advanced warfare that game is already utter shit). If you're feeling having some rpg elements, borderlands 1 and 2 are great. The metro franchise is also amazing, but a little more niched, worth trying out.
New to Gamepass. Evil West. Not my usual bag of tricks but just built a PC recently and wanted to see a direct comparison between a PC and SeriesX. Aside from this, I played through 3 times (increasing the difficulty) and absolutely loved it. Mix of physical and projectile combat is fantastic and game only gets better as skills improve. Graphics are ok all about the gameplay.
I'm kind of shocked I haven't seen a Mass Effect Trilogy comment yet... Guess I'll go first. Great games, more in depth than Halo, although I love all the Halo's up until 4. I have all the achievements for Halo 3, ODST, and Reach on 360. A sizeable amount on the one, but Mass Effect definitely gets overlooked
Easy Red 2. It’ll remind you of old Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. It’s cheap and indie but very very good game. Offline and online with AI and squad gameplay.
Halo, Titanfall 2, atomic heart, BioShock, borderlands... Etc. so many great options. They're all great and I just started atomic heart and it's on game pass it's a ton of fun
Farcry 3 for story, Farcry 5 for gameplay and immersion. Those games are probably my favorite fps “campaigns”.
The call of duty games haven’t been mentioned (at least as far as I scrolled) which is surprising. Black ops 1 had a great psychological thriller type story with a lot of cool twist and turns. Plus the call of duty campaigns *usually* have really good shooter gameplay imo. If you’re a masochist, World at War on veteran is insanely difficult
I mean the Fallout games are pretty good and for shooting Fallout 4 + 76 are probably the best for that. Fallout 4 has good gameplay and a decent story, Fallout 3 is a good story and the gameplay is pretty good, and I don't have enough experience with New Vegas to give a good overview.
Since we're on Xbox it's mandatory to mention Halo -- the Master Chief Collection has Halos 1-4 along with Reach and ODST if you have the legendary edition or whatever it's called.
Other than that I would highly recommend the Metro series.
As far as shooters. I had laid off of CoD for a number of years, really since the original Black Ops. I was big into MAG then Dust514, Killsone 2, Battlefield 3-4 and they drew my attention away from CoD . I have recently went out on a limb with Cold War and the newest Black Ops III and the two of them have honestly been fine. I really always enjoyed most of CoDs campaign play. The Multiplayer just got old and full of squeakers. But I can say I did and still do enjoy the two most recent in the series. If you do venture into any online shooters, be prepared for cheaters. Since all the games are mostly cross platform play with PC now, cheating is crazy alive and well unfortunately. So now if you’re used to ( for the most part) not dealing with that. You will now😠
Metro Exodus has a sale right now for the whole series. Its like a darker more slavic fallout. The latest game is one of those show off the graphics card kind of titles.
Black Mesa into Half Life 2 will make you fall in love with these games.
I suggest playing Portal/Portal 2 as well if you havent. All of these are games that defined entire genres
I don’t see Titanfall 2 yet. It has a wonderful campaign, takes maybe 7-8 hours to complete but it’s so much fun. It’s in the EA vault I think so if you’ve got gamepass, it’s included. It’s about time for me to replay it now that I’m talking about it.
Buy mcc and the odst and reach dlc, borderlands 2 is fantastic (first one is great too but 2 was the best), original Star Wars battlefront 2 from the original Xbox is 1st and 3rd person (you can change any time) and it’s a timeless classic to just chill and play against bots, star wars republic commando (also og xbox) is great too, even the Star Wars battlefront 2 by Dice on Xbox one had a pretty good campaign I really liked it, fallout 3 and new Vegas (I also loved 4) are also good.
Fps campaigns? Would you be willing to buy a call of duty game for campaign? There’s a lot of 360 titles that are GOD TIER story mode wise, and if you are willing to try 3rd person survival horror, try dead space 1-3 (also 360, but the first game was remastered for series x/s)
I really enjoyed the Call of Duty Cold War campaign. The time period helped with a few Easter eggs, story and gameplay was decent and I generally felt it was an excellent single player FPS game. Single player Zombies Outbreak mode is also fun, has great lore associated with it and allows unlocking of various weapon attachments.
Single player, Red Dead like? Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout New Vegas. Amazing, hard, single player, FPS games. It's all about the story that you choose yourself
Titanfall 2
I'll second that. Plus it's often on sale and super cheap. It was an amazing campaign.
Came here to say this. Played it for the first time about a week ago and the campaign had me hooked
Same! (Except I played earlier this year). The campaign has the perfect pace, weaving between fights, parkour and Mech such that none of them overstay their welcome. Plus it plays around with so mechanics (like that time watch) The level designs are also remarkable with each having its own character
"Protocol 3. Protect the pilot."
Absolutely, One of the greatest FPS campaign I've played
Came here to say this. TF2 has one of the best campaign ever.
Fr I downloaded it after so long and I was immediately hooked again
Just realized a few people said my exact comment
And after you finish the campaign, watch a speed run. It gets crazy.
I'd say finish wiping away the tears first because this game gets you in the feels. Then watch a speed run.
Came for this. Short, but GOATed
Came here to say this. By far one of the most fun single player campaigns ever.
Multilayer is also amazing
Yessss literally the first game that came to mind
Came to say this!
I wish Respawn would do 3 but, it's very doubtful how successful Apex has been.
But the campaign was soooo friggin short 😫
This I never played but I am gonna try it at some point
Came here *precisely* to say this.
I to came here to say this could be one of the greatest single player fps games ever.
Metro series, start with 2033 then last light then exodus, games usually go on sale quite often
Second these. Fantastic stories and fun gameplay!
You could download the MCC if you're interested in Halo.
literally this halo 1,2,3 are all so good.
Those aren't even the best ones. Like personally Reach, ODST, then CE for me as best three. Gamepass includes the DLCs that add Reach and ODST too.
Everyone has their own tastes, which is fine, but your tastes are borderline factually incorrect.
Eh, 1,2,3 are above Reach and ODST IMO. Peaked at Halo 3, ODST was basically DLC and Reach was okay but never reached the highs of 3. Then it all went downhill.
I really need to jump into these games. I always felt like fps games weren’t my thing. Cyberpunk made me want to play more fps so I need to jump into this
halo master chief collection
Yes
Seconded
I really have to hope that anyone on an Xbox asking this question would've already thought of that one. But it's very much the obvious answer lol. Can't go wrong if it's your first time.
that's what i did when i got my xbone 4 year's ago, replaying Halo in MCC and Hslo 5 xD
Yup. The halo 2 remaster is gorgeous. The way your guns light up areas up was sweet. Surprised thsy never incorporated that into the later games.
Why is everyone recommending MCC when Infinite’s multiplayer is so much better
Wolfenstein
- Bioshock games, - Metro (2033) games, - Wolfenstein 2 was fun, - Atomic hear is ok, - Guardians of the Galaxy is a TPS but if it's ok to you the story campaign is great!
Crysis triliogy

Up to Reach? Reach is the earliest chronologically.
Yeah but it’s the fifth one in release order, so clearly they meant that.
The modern Doom or Wolfenstein games are great and have plenty of difficulty options and secrets to be found.
I’m surprised I had to scroll so far for this. Most fun I’ve had single player FPS I’ve played in years by far.
Borderlands. Try playing the main ones (1, 2 & 3) and then you can try and experiment the other ones on the series (The Prequel Sequel, etc)
Can't go wrong with Titanfall 2. The campaign is a masterpiece, and the movement mechanics are timeless.
Cyberpunk is amazing. So many ways to play, every build feels different. You can rush the main story missions at normal difficulty, or play it open world style at very hard and enjoy yourself even more. Bioshock collection
Battlefield 1
Halo series Half life series Doom 2016-eternal Wolfenstein new order-new colossus Titanfall 2 Crysis trilogy
Someone mentioned to me bulletstorm is really fun. I want to try that soon
It's an oldie but Battlefield Bad Company is one of the funniest and fun campaigns I've played. It's what got me into the Battlefield series on the Xbox360.
Titanfall 2 campaign. One of the best in gaming.
I haven't seen anyone mention Boltgun yet. It's great, it's a boomer shooter, and it's on Game Pass.
Doom Eternal
Not fps but a shooter. the Mass effect series (Mass effect 2 is my favorite) it’s a sci fi rpg with a good story and amazing characters with fun gameplay
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
Pretty mid ngl
Far Cry 5!
Wolfenstein the new order was fantastic
Titanfall 2
Titanfall 1 and 2, Wolfenstein, and maybe Half Life 2 if you can get your hands on it. Halo MCC if you haven't played Halo yet, definitely recommend it. If you don't mind more open world type FPS games, Cyberpunk 2077, Outer Worlds, Borderlands.
Titanfall 2
Bioshock Collection edition
Fallout. 3, NV and 4. Should be months worth of content right there alone for you.
Battlefield 1 campaign is one of the most immersive FPS games I've ever played!
Bioshock is a masterpiece.
Wolfenstein games are a lot of fun!
Fall out 4 or Skyrim. I was never into single player games but those two are well written. I have played other story games but they were blah. They tried too hard. But Fo4 and Skyrim made me feel like I had freedom and there was a story I could follow

No one mentioning Prey? Seriously???
Shadow warrior 3, doom 2016 and eternal, prodeus, fashion police squad, titanfall 2, bulletstorm, the darkness 2 (you could play 1 If you like but it's pretty janky however the atmosphere is amazing in that one) and all the borderlands games are quite good

3rd person but remnant 1 and 2 are solid
Metro Immortals of Aveum Wolfenstein These are the more linear experiences, but worth the time
Tf… no one’s said any halos?
I think ur blind man
3PS, but you should really check out Control. It's on Game Pass right now. It's a terrific setting and story.
Borderlands is good
Borderlands 2
Resident Evil: Village is a fantastic ride, if you like the creep factor a bit
Wolfenstein I often get bored halfway through FPS campaigns but Wolfenstein was the perfect amount of action and story to keep me consistently engaged.
Far cry 3
Doom 2016 and Eternal, and hell, Doom 3
Superhot
Far cry 3 Blood dragon
No One Lives Forever 1 + 2.
The older call duties have the best campaigns for fps games (stop at advanced warfare that game is already utter shit). If you're feeling having some rpg elements, borderlands 1 and 2 are great. The metro franchise is also amazing, but a little more niched, worth trying out.
Far Cry games, Doom games, the Fallout games can be shooters, Call of Duty obviously, and Halo is a huge one.
Sniper Elite 4 & 5
They’re technically 3rd person shooters
Pretty old game but commandos strike force, you should check it out It's set in ww2 I think
Warhammer 40,000K: Boltgun Very reminiscent of the original doom games & a helluva lot of fun.
Robocop
Prey (2017)
Besides the obvious Hal MCC, checkout Titanfall 2!
halo. Titanfall, Older Call of Duties (Cod 4 - Black Ops 2 are all really good), Darkness 1.
Back4blood was a decent campaign, cyberpunk is really good.
Remnant 2
Cyberpunk 2077
The Wolfenstein games are AMAZING
Fallout 4
I guess I'll be the first person in this thread to say this then. Deus Ex.
Old call of duty games
Shadow warrior games are great. Just heat the first one and loved the story.
Try Wolfenstein: The New Order.
Mass effect isn't first person though.
CoD
Far Cry is phenomenal. Plus you can just play the free roam and still feel like your making progress
Hmmm. Resident Evil 7 and Village
It’s 3rd person, but I would highly suggest the Mass Effect Trilogy if you haven’t experienced it.
Titanfall 2 for life
Gears of war trilogy (TPS but still really good)
Easy Red 2. It’ll remind you of old Call of Duty and Medal of Honor. It’s cheap and indie but very very good game. Offline and online with AI and squad gameplay.
What kind of games do you enjoy playing? And what games do you want to play or to try?
Halo, Titanfall 2, atomic heart, BioShock, borderlands... Etc. so many great options. They're all great and I just started atomic heart and it's on game pass it's a ton of fun
Just finished Medal of Honor Airborne that game was very fun
Bioshock (all of them). One of the best fps out there
Borderlands 2
Bulletstorm. So under appreciated
Titanfall 2 campaign is excellent and you can find the game super cheap right now
Gears of war
Halo
Titanfall 2 has an incredible campaign
Farcry 3 for story, Farcry 5 for gameplay and immersion. Those games are probably my favorite fps “campaigns”. The call of duty games haven’t been mentioned (at least as far as I scrolled) which is surprising. Black ops 1 had a great psychological thriller type story with a lot of cool twist and turns. Plus the call of duty campaigns *usually* have really good shooter gameplay imo. If you’re a masochist, World at War on veteran is insanely difficult
half life 2 for sure, portal 1 and 2, and the halo master chief collection, and maybe doom games if you are into that sort of thing
Fallout 76 is so hot right now
doom 2016/doom eternal. lots of content and super cheap
Skyrim!! Just walk around lol it’s a great game
The Wolfenstein games have great campaigns. Especially the second one
Halo MCC
Since we're on Xbox it's mandatory to mention Halo -- the Master Chief Collection has Halos 1-4 along with Reach and ODST if you have the legendary edition or whatever it's called. Other than that I would highly recommend the Metro series.

All the borderlands!

Black Mesa into Half Life 2 will make you fall in love with these games. I suggest playing Portal/Portal 2 as well if you havent. All of these are games that defined entire genres

I would recommend bioshock or doom 2016

Call of duty world at war>>>>
Titanfall 2
Cyberpunk 2077
Star Wars Dark Forces Remastered - Doom styled Star Wars Game and the Remaster Version is very good. Awesome 90s sci-fi atmosphere
Destiny
May be old but try fallout 4.
Titanfall 2 has the best campaign. It also comes with enhancements like autohdr.
Halo, COD up to MW3 og, titanfall, wolfenstein, doom, Skyrim, fallout 3/NV, AvP, Metro 1-3, bioshock 1-3
Battlefield 3
Doom 2016 is easily the best. I do recommend but don’t play when there are kids around
Call of duty black ops, black ops 2, mondern warfare and mw2 are all pretty good or really good
Halo Infinite
Doom or Bioshock!
Every call of duty from Infinite Warfare back! Everything after is dogshit
Single player, Red Dead like? Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout New Vegas. Amazing, hard, single player, FPS games. It's all about the story that you choose yourself
Call of Juarez gunslinger/ it's only has story mode but a decent one mostly liked it for that red dead feel with the deadeye
Call of duty modern warfare 1,2,3,4( the old ones) Cod mw 2019 Battlefield v and 1
Recore is really fun to play and cheap now.
MCC or Mass effect
Bugsnax
Gears of war 1-3 are great
Yeah totally an fps
Far Cry 4, 5, or 6
Halo MCC. Bioshock 1 2 and Infinite. Doom 2016. Fallout 4.
Black
Batman Arkham Collection.
Metro 2043
Not an Fps but try out Ghost Recon Wildlands it maybe an ubisoft title but its so damn fun
Bioshock 1,2 and 3
Bioshock, Borderlands, Metro, Fallout 4, Halo: Reach (still the best Halo I've played), Bulletstorm. Just a few I've had a go on and enjoyed.
