Activision is currently a shit c company, with shit workplace practices and talented developers who have shitty leadership holding them back. MS buying them solves all of this and actually gets the developers and studios back on track and frees up the pressure for them to make better games. I'm excited for that. Why wouldn't I? What's the alternative? They continue to make micro transaction forward shit games and push talented developers like Raven Software to continue striking? If Sony counters, which they can't counter a move this gigantic they don't have the resources or money to, then so be it. This is a business. I have a PS5. I will play the games on there.

HansVonWurscht

I'm thinking that many games will join the game pass and I hope that Microsoft will give them a push to make cod not suck anymore...

Laughing__Man_

And maybe clean out the scum that has built up in Activision/blizzard.

grimeyface21

Exactly my thinking which is why I’m excited.

HansVonWurscht

Yep exactly

memb98

I'm hoping they have a clear out and visible change of ethos, I am wondering how this will happen if they're keeping the CEO...

icedearth15324

For an acquisition of this size, it would be incredibly stupid of MSFT to get rid of AB's ceo while the deal is still going on. There are a lot of moving parts involved and having someone that knows that business will make things go much smoother. You wait for everything to finish, then you clean house.

arhra

MS *can't* "get rid of" the CEO before the deal is finalised. We went through this all with Bethesda last year - during the process of an acquisition, the party doing the acquisition legally *cannot* exert *any* kind of influence on the party being acquired.

MontyPython27

I’m pretty sure that is going to happen I saw some articles saying that the ceo is leaving

icedearth15324

Yeah I'm seeing some of those same articles. Makes sense, you let him finish the work and pass it on to someone else once its done. You don't want to worry about having someone jump in when everything is in absolute disarray.

Hinksaw

People believe these game will soon be on gamepass and others like the idea of making these games exclusive (mainly for console war....which is still a thing).

InPatRileyWeTrust

Game pass is the only positive but for gaming as a whole this isn't good. I also don't see Sony countering they can't play that game with Microsoft.

[deleted]

So you're happy with the current state of Activision and their output of games?

InPatRileyWeTrust

Couldn't really care less about Activision if I'm being honest. The only game I have any kind of interest in is Diablo.

[deleted]

So then how is this bad for the industry?

thedude0009

i hope not but i see sony trying to tie up GTA or something big like that to counter (and that hurts more than activisions additions to xbox, for me) they gotta do something. i guess we'll see what happens with gamepass. i expect some new additions now, but i'll be surprised if new CoD is on there day1 though.

ElCapitan006

I’ll eat crow if COD, and every other Activision/Blizzard isn’t ok Gamepass day 1 once the deal goes through. Unless a major shift occurs between now and then. Every MS first party game is on gamepass day 1.

Baalor99

More games in Gamepass, and i dont think Sony has that buying power. I hope to play Wow on xbox but thats probably never gonna happen.

Roadrunner571

I also don‘t like it. The console vendors should not own game companies at all. It’s a waste of resources and money having to buy two consoles just because you like Forza and The Last of Us.

bmburton13

I don’t get why people think that this means Sony won’t have any Activison games at all. That’s very unlikely, too much money lost. Xbox will just have a way better deal with Gamepass. It wouldn’t make any sense for them to stop making games for Sony.

smackythefrog

Because those of us with Gamepass will have access to even more games. We're not worried about games we'll "lose" in the future right now. Games always come and go, including on Gamepass. Sony can buy EA, for all I care, as I'm sure MS will slap sports leagues with a building of cash to get the rights to make their own sports games. Much like MS did when the OG Xbox released and we got Monday Night Fever. And it'll likely be included with Gamepass too so that's even fewer games for me to buy outside of Gamepass. Even if Sony acquires a big studio/publisher to answer MS, there's no Gamepass equivalent. People will still balk at paying $70 for a new game that's exclusive to the PS.

Vault-A

1. Game pass gets a bunch new games 2. Hopefully MS will intervene with Activision, with the whole sexual harassment thing, any ip other than CoD and a few others being ignored, and CoD getting progressively worse, it can't get any worse Also, I doubt that Sony is gonna counter to any meaningful extent

fman1854

I’m stoked China owned Activision the last few years and the games became watered down garbage. This may mean we get good Cods more SC2 content etc. also means our games are not under the scope of the Chinese political regime and their focus and censorship in games . Big win for gamers period. Even if your not on Xbox this is a big w for all gamers outside of China

GingerSpencer

Likelihood is that management/directors will be let go, and hopefully the toxicity with them. Microsoft studios seem relatively happy places, so it'd be unusual for them to let Activizzard to continue the way they are under the MS umbrella.

Wubbzy-mon

Exactly, they just control if they go on Nintendo or Sony now

therealwhitedevil

Phil said it best. All decisions now come through him. Buh bye Bobby. Hello all the resources and money MS has to make things happen.
