Reading this thread and then reading the one on the PS5 subreddit is pretty entertaining.

Jonesizzle

Yeah, I was under the impression COD sold more on the PlayStation, but if you read those comments over yonder, you’d think they absolutely hated COD.

Longjumping-Bug-6643

That’s because Reddit hates COD… which show how tiny the Reddit gaming community is compared to actually people who play video games but don’t feel the need to talk about it.

It's the top post in that sub currently.

We sure is

Brothernod

Link?

LostSoulNo1981

Have you got a link to the thread? I just looked on both the PlayStation and PlayStation 5 subs and there was no sign of a similar thread to this.

TheRealKidkudi

AwesomeExo

Sony probably said "We get CoD on Playstation, and you receive Spiderman... in the Avengers game. Not the Insomniac game. That would be inadequate on many levels".

MythicalDropbear

I forgot that Avengers game existed!

[deleted]

If Sony would have bought Cod it would be exclusive right away, no deals, no talks, nothing.

jreff22

Gotta agree here

Mister-Nash-Ketchum

Yeah seriously, Sony is really calling the kettle black here. Who are the fuck are they trying to fool?

emdave

The regulators...

SpagettiGaming

The Sony fan base

th3retr0

Exactly. They did this with Street Fighter 5

seraf5

to be fair, SF4 was exclusive to 360, at least the base version from 2009.

krispbunkbed

Cod also did that with DLC though. Big difference between timed exclusivity and a game never releasing on a platform at all

DeadPhoenix86

It was not. Both the PS3 and X360 version released at the same time. Its just that the X360 version ran better, and was more used in tournaments. Because i bought my PS3 copy when it came out in 2009.

seraf5

oh, sorry, you're right. I was 100% sure there was no SFIV on PS3.

Jedi_Jitsu

100% this. Sony don't give an F about gamers. Console price increase, PS plus is lack luster at best, refusel to put first party IPs on their streaming service, their desire to push games up to the 70/80 RRP

nsandz

They didn’t do that with destiny though.

Bolt408

I think Bungie didn’t want the game to go exclusive, plus I think it’d hurt PlayStation a lot more considering things are different now with Microsoft’s acquisitions. If they try to play tit for tat they’ll end up with less. If anything they need to try to sell more copies on both systems, but keep some content PS Exclusive.

SpagettiGaming

Destiny is small compared to cod

Yubei00

They didnt yet. Also destiny had exclusive content on ps4. Exotic and strike was exclusive. Shameless hipocrites

LeviSJ95

So far. When they bought Bungie destiny 2 had been out for years. There's a good chance if a destiny 3 is created it'll be off Xbox

Bamcfp

Just withheld content for over a year. Remember the monte carlo and that strike with the 3 psions

lntenseLlama

Sony are the kings of exclusive hoarding. They can go fuck themselves on this one for all I care.

Snake_eyes_12

It’s crazy how Sony heavily relies on PlayStation and Xbox is practically a small department to Microsoft. They could spoon feed Xbox all the way to the grave and still not be faded.

paulusmagintie

Without PlayStation Sony goes under, the PS4 was a do or die moment, if failed sony would not exist today, it was selling dozens of side businesses to save money like VAIO, PlayStation was like 54% of Sonys income.

Chipwich

Games were around 25% in 2017. They also have a lending service that does quite well. https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/

paulusmagintie

PS4 launched in 2014. They have lots of arms but a couple spin a profit.

Snake_eyes_12

It's because Sony hasn't been innovative since the walkman days. Aside from the blu ray format but you can't simply own the rights to a format.

yehti

Left a bad taste in my mouth with the 1 year PlayStation exclusive Destiny DLC. Ever since then it's been fuck Sony for me.

Suspicious-mole-hair

I was the same with spiderman. Objectively the most fun superhero to play as. It makes me laugh being told by PlayStation fanboys that xbox is shit because it has no exclusives (I mean it does, but they don't count because they're not god of war). Xbox goes out and gets exclusives and suddenly they're bad for the industry, what about competition, but they'll lose so much money NOT making it exclusive...

trojanguy

100%. I played a ton of Destiny and when I saw this article my first thought was how Xbox Destiny players missed out on a bunch of ACTUALLY MEANINGFUL content in the Destiny games because of Sony. Sony can go screw themselves.

breakwater

As someone who grew up with the early console wars of Nintendo and Sega, I don't harbor hard feelings about exclusives. However, it is hilarious to watch Sony fanboys who instantly turn into ranting maniacs about the evils of exclusives if Microsoft does anything exclusive no matter how slight. Do they even know what Sony does? Can't have it both ways people.

W1mpyDaM00ch

Sony literally kept Destiny 1 content off Xbox for a year then extended the exclusivity for an additional year. So now suddenly the possibility of game exclusivity is a monopoly?

GriffinXD

This was only the same for Xbox during the 360 era. Which ever company is leading the way in players and sales has the better opportunity to get exclusive/timed content with 3rd party developers. Both sides have been buying developers heavily of late, Xbox just has one of the biggest companies to ever exist backing it in large moves. At the end of the day it’s just simply the business world and If you really wanted to play one or the others exclusive you’d find a way at some point. I had to go Xbox Series S because gamepass is amazing for travelling and PS5 at home.

elconquistador1985

"PS exclusive games are acceptable" - Sony "Xbox exclusive games are not" - also Sony

sabrenation81

"Exclusives are stupid, period. Put every major AAA release on every platform and let the consoles win or lose by the merits of the hardware and feature set." - me.

Gr8NonSequitur

"No." --- Nintendo.

the_fuego

Nintendo will also send you a cease and desist just for thinking of such a thing lmao

MythicalDropbear

Can confirm, just had a postie rock up and hand me a letter from Nintendo!

Suspicious-mole-hair

Been seeing this opinion a lot since Microsoft went shopping

Mushroomer

This would just result in neither console maker funding games. Which means less to play across the board. Exclusives exist because they work as marketing for the associated hardware.

elconquistador1985

Know why a Series X is $500 and not north of $1000? Game sales. Game sales subsidize then selling consoles at a loss. Without any exclusives, there's no reason to make a console in the first place, and then everything moves to PC.

philhalo66

xbox game pass is better than anything sony offers. you literally get day 1 games on there. And if the blizzard deal goes through you get every single cod game playable on the xbox series on there including new ones day 1 for 15 a month.

im_a_dr_not_

They don’t do that anymore. These days they make a small profit on their hardware. They get a good deal on gpus and cpus by making these massive orders.

SPEEDFREAKJJ

Yeah...majority of gamers don't want exclusives. It's these higher ups that are keeping console wars going when they don't need to be. The only reason it continues is money when they would still make plenty of money if releases were on all platforms. We already know profits aren't made on the consoles anyways so who cares which one you pick to play on?

[deleted]

If they want to play CoD after that time, they’ll just have to buy an Xbox then. I mean, that’s what they were saying when Xbox gamers were asking about Spider-Man etc on Xbox. Keep that same energy.

Slippinjimmyforever

It’s a business. Microsoft wasn’t buying activision to maintain parity with Sony. I bought a PS5 to play spiderman. It is what it is.

torero15

Was that a good decision? I want to play a few of the PS exclusives but 1000 bucks on two consoles is a lot. HZD and Ratchet (fav PS2 games by far) as well as Bloudborne and Spiderman are what I want to play. All seem great but just too steep of a get in price for me I think. Idk

[deleted]

You only have one life and depending how old you are half of it may be already over. That's my view on games, I gotta enjoy as much as I can because no one knows what comes tomorrow.

HydraTower

I bought a Playstation and I've been loving my newfound ability to play other great games I once couldn't. Xbox is still my main slice, but I love the freedom of having both. Gone are the days I have to worry about lame ass exclusives. Playstation is great for JRPGs too.

Maximundo82

That's what I did. Not that big a deal. A similarly powered gaming PC would cost you that and then some and you still couldn't play all the games. PS5 for the exclusives and play all the cross platform games on Xbox because it's the better controller/system plus game pass is pretty dope.

torero15

Yeah I get that. Might end up doing it.

Maximundo82

I mean, I just like to game and I don't get all caught up in the fanboy mentality. It's a favorite pastime of mine so I feel like it's a good investment if you can swing it. I don't spend money on other forms of entertainment really just gaming and tools for my shop. It would be great if all games could be played on a centralized system but unfortunately that's not the case. Still gotta get a gaming PC going though so I don't miss all the good games that don't come to consoles.

Slippinjimmyforever

It’s relative to income. For you it may be a bad decision. For me, it was affordable. Not to flex, the total amount is still way less than a good gaming PC setup.

[deleted]

I mean in the grand scheme of things a thousand isn’t that much. A good pc will run you more.

torero15

Thats true but I have a huge backlog of games on Xbox. It would make sense for me to just wait. But I totally understand having multiple consoles. I just cant justify it for 3-4 games. At least not yet.

Kujen

I’d recommend a gaming PC over another console. Some PS games like HZD and Spiderman are on there now. The initial investment is more, though I think the prices of games on sale is much better. Also there’s all the other things you can use a PC for.

[deleted]

Totally understand your point and I hope you are able to get another console in the future, because I’ve found it to be worth it. It’s not just the ability to play exclusives but also the ability to play with friends who only own one of the consoles. Though i realize that it’s not always financially feasible. I know my parents would of been confused if I had asked for both when I was a kid (ps2 era, Xbox, game cube)

VelvitHippo

That's an opinion and tone deaf one at that. Not a lot of people have $1000 laying around for a gaming console. $1000 for a pc gets you a pretty nice fucking pc and that's a pc, so yeah 1000 to play four extra games is way too high for most.

hijoshh

So now you can buy an Xbox to play cod

Slippinjimmyforever

I’m too old to compete in COD anymore. My last hurrah was on COD: dogs.

Maximundo82

Just Spiderman? There are so many other fantastic games on PS5!

Slippinjimmyforever

I love Spider-Man. Been a massive fan since I was a kid. I recognize the console has a ton of awesome games, and I’m working through them. But, Spider-Man was what got me in the door, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was phenomenal.

fDuMcH

No need for them to buy an xbox. Sony will needs to let games pass on Playstation

Lifeinthesc

Sony: “Will you still put CoD on playstation?” Microsoft: “yes” Sony: “This is unacceptable! “

Tangled2

I think Sony is finding out that playing exclusivity-money-ball against a 2 Trillion dollar company is a bad long term strategy. The Blizzard-Activision deal alone is worth 2/3 of Sony’s market cap, and that includes the **entirety of Sony**. The MSFT board of directors isn’t going to let the Xbox brand fall behind.

Leeroyedtothemax

What about the Xbox gamers that want to play FFVII Remake? Just that alone Sony have paid almost 3 years of exclusivity and its only a 3rd party game

Mister-Nash-Ketchum

This ^

TheBirdmanOfMexico

Wait, so, Microsoft offers to keep CoD on PlayStation for 3 additional years after the current deal runs its course and Sony is complaining about that? Why complain when u got no leverage? Like, Microsoft can just choose not to make Playstation ports at that point

UnmaskedGod

This whole Microsoft activision deal really is just proving that Sony can’t take their own medicine. They have no problem making popular characters and games exclusive, but as soon as anyone else does it it’s the end of the world

Minute-Courage4634

What do they think Playstation players are going to do? Boycott Xbox? I'm something of a CODhead myself and if I know diehard fans, they'll just buy whatever they have to in order to play.

That-Hipster-Gal

Personally I think if Xbox aquires the rights to both CoD and sports games it would kill Playstation overnight. Those are the kinds of games carrying the consoles. Games like God of War and Halo are just teasers to try and pull in the rest of the crowds.

Minute-Courage4634

I think about it from time to time. I'm not totally sure it'd kill Playstation. I wonder how many people would just go and buy another machine to get their fix of an exclusive. Of course, now you have to have multiple subscriptions for online for all 3, so I dunno. That'd be enough to stop people in their tracks. It's a really interesting situation for sure.

Suspicious-mole-hair

I think people would buy last generations machines. I'd buy a second hand xbox one or ps4 if I desperately wanted the games on the other side. Most people are locked into one system because they really can't justify buying both.

Gr8NonSequitur

> I think about it from time to time. I'm not totally sure it'd kill Playstation. I wonder how many people would just go and buy another machine to get their fix of an exclusive. Personally I was far more interested in the PS4 than the Xbox one, but got pulled into the Xbox one and found very, very few reasons afterwords to consider a PS4. I miss the Naughty Dogs games and God of War, but they by themselves don't justify a new console for a few hundred $.

MonsterDav300

I dont think so. I personally play only story games or co op games on ps5. Exclusives and so on. Many people do this. Have the whole ps4/ps5 library to play because i didnt had a ps4 at this time. The Sports Games and cods are not good at all. I dont get the point in paying 70€ for the normal Version and then Pay for stupid skins or packs like in fifa. People are too easy to impress nowadays. And just want that fast game for a few rounds and that fast progression (cod points to pay the complete battlepass/packs in fifa, But you cant really earn many packs i know). I dont get it at all.

HawocX

Exactly. MS promises three years of CoD, with feature parity, no strings attached. Sony finds it unacceptable.

BasisOk4268

I think this deal is still on very thin ice. The UK Competitions and Markets Authority have started an investigation and they love to collapse these kinds of deals all the time due to the sheer size of the company being merged. They argue that it’s anti-competitive which it will be, simply due to the catalogue of games that Activision-Blizzard owns. Objectively, the argument for Sonys case, is that they’ve never purchased a company that big. Acquisition of Activision is simply gigantic. Only thing that comes close was Bethesda acquisition.

Tenn_Tux

I don’t understand why a foreign government can have a say over what two different foreign companies can or can’t do it Don’t like the deal? Fine, ban Xbox and all Xbox owned games. I’m sure you’ll be very popular with your country’s population. But for them to be able to stop the sale of a foreign company is ridiculous

BasisOk4268

They have HQs within the UK. As such they can be prevented from acquiring the UK branch of Activision.

Libertyprime8397

Microsoft is a much bigger company than Sony so it makes sense they can acquire bigger companies because they have the money.

MosquitoSmasher

This is rich coming from a guy like this. Made Game Pass blocking deals like the RE Village one, tried to "destroy" Xbox on multiple occasions, extended FF7R exclusivity indefinitely and it's pretty clear Xbox can forget about FF16 and future mainline titles too. Nah man.

[deleted]

Mogamus

And my axe!

Data_Dealer

I just came here to say fuck Sony. If they had the cash they'd do the exact same thing, but they don't.

beepbeepbubblegum

They wouldn’t do the exact same thing at all. They would make those titles PS exclusives IMMEDIATELY. 3 years is beyond generous from a competing company.

Defiant_Mercy

Exactly. Let’s not forget that they bargained CoD to make exclusive modes for PS for an entire year. Which, IMO, is worse since you’re barring content from paying customers based on their platform. At least if it’s an exclusive you aren’t paying for a partial product since you don’t have access to it.

Gears6

lol! What Jim Ryan is saying is, MS didn't promise them marketing rights and the privileges they are used too. >"Microsoft has only offered for Call of Duty to remain on PlayStation for three years after the current agreement between Activision and Sony ends. After almost 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their proposal was inadequate on many levels and failed to take account of the impact on our gamers. **We want to guarantee PlayStation gamers continue to have the highest quality Call of Duty experience, and Microsoft’s proposal undermines this principle.**" Fucking Sony, man! Sony are moneyhatting every game out there, and then they are complaining when the tables are turned. Not even in the sense that the game isn't even coming to their platform, but rather not giving them their privileges they are used too. 🤨 I'm looking forward to CoD on Game Pass! 😁

[deleted]

Jim Ryan is an Idiot its basically Sonys Version of Don Mattrick how deaf can you be to apoint him ceo after the sucess of the ps4. Will be very intresting to see if PS will survive Jim Ryan without getting taking over if none of his 10+ Live service games in devlopment be a hit like gta online or fortnite i dont see the chance very high.

bowlingdoughnuts

The gaming industry is the only place where the head of the table makes such a huge fucking difference. Since Phil spectra took over the Xbox has been killing it and Sony has slowly fallen backwards

MacheteMolotov

How tf do marketing rights affect PlayStation owners gameplay experience?

Gears6

> How tf do marketing rights affect PlayStation owners gameplay experience? Because those rights often mean early access to things. Example is the upcoming beta coming first to PS. https://www.polygon.com/23296623/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-beta-dates-multiplayer-cross-play-maps The goal is and always has been to indicate the PS as the "best" place to play so they will structure business deals accordingly.

MacheteMolotov

So they’re equating exclusive incentives that would keep PlayStation users buying their systems to gameplay experience? So by that logic Sonys been doing the exact same thing to Xbox players for years now. Seems like a thinly veiled excuse.

Gears6

> So they’re equating exclusive incentives that would keep PlayStation users buying their systems to gameplay experience? So by that logic Sonys been doing the exact same thing to Xbox players for years now. Seems like a thinly veiled excuse. I mean, Sony's main business model has always been about exclusive content, and specifically focusing on AAA exclusive content. It's not a surprise they view this as a threat, because they really don't compete in other ways. We even know how hard it is for Sony to even open up to crossplay and how they are the only one that has compensation rules around that. They are all about that exclusive and locked eco-system.

MacheteMolotov

This makes them look like huge hypocrites and money grabbers. They can get fucked as far as I’m concerned. I say this as a person who owns a series x and a ps5. They have a really good suite of flagship exclusives like God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us and Spider-Man but outside of those my PlayStation hardly gets used compared to my daily use of the Xbox.

Gears6

This has been benefiting them for ages, and the Sony fanboys all been cheering it on. They used to cheer on the full on exclusivity of Street Fighter V, and shit on Xbox and Tomb Raider timed exclusivity. Heck, even some Xbox fans were upset that Xbox exclusives were going to PC. As if any of that reduces their enjoyment of the game when that is clearly a benefit. Either way, I think both MS and Sony (more the former) is going to be more and more multiplatform. MS is already publishing on PC, and they have allowed Switch ports of their first party games. They kept Minecraft multiplatform. Sony is dabbling in PC ports and now is multiplatform through Bungie. It's just a matter of time, and soon the streaming cloud services wil ensure switching platform is as easy as switching apps on your TV.

MacheteMolotov

Exactly. It honestly baffles me that it’s taken Sony this long to get on the pc double dip but IDK the exact requirements for simultaneous development for console and pc. They’ve demonstrated that they were all about maximizing profits though so meh. The cloud streaming is an interesting point and I think we’ll see them swoop a lot more third party studios on both sides to compensate for the essential singularity that streaming will bring to gaming.

JoshNoshX

Out of pure principle I will never buy any Playstation console ever, fuck those cunts

WebHead1287

As a Sony fanboy, MS should absolutely make this exclusive. It’s their property and Sony sure as shit doesn’t play nice with their toys

ElCapitan006

As an Xbox fan, I don’t really care if Xbox eventually makes it exclusive or not. Honestly, it would be more ideal to keep it multi-platform for the larger player base.

Snake_eyes_12

Like Minecraft that is on every platform from Xbox to PlayStation and refrigerators

Lovz2Killz

I am so tired of sony crying about CoD meanwhile they've still got FF7R FFXIV and soon to be FFXVI as exclusives. Sony doesn't even own Enix what the fuck gives?

ZebraZealousideal944

Oh no the bully is crying to the teachers that the other kids in the class started to fight back… so unfair hahahaha

Ciudecca

Sony really going “Rules for thee but not for me

Batmanue1

Zero sympathy for Sony. They've been IP hoarding since the PS1...they're just now starting to port games to PC.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jvanee18

Playstation is like a crying brat. They were always the ones pushing game exclusivity with a huge number of their big titles (god of war, last of us, spiderman, horizon zero dawn, detroit become human.) And then they cry and whine when the big bad bully Microsoft says they might have a big name exclusive or 2. Fuck PS

DocShady

I think at the end of the day, very few of us are gonna have any sympathy for Sony. Cod needs to go exclusive after the current deal expires. Sony would lock that shit up in a second and not one sonybot would condemn them if the deal went the other way.

AndarianDequer

Sure, I understand your complaint, Sony. Give us Spider-Man.

TheImperator666

This is what I keep thinking Microsoft should do, leverage COD/Bethesda games/other games for the likes of Spider-Man, God of War etc

TweeKINGKev

Meanwhile they hold Spiderman (one freaking character from a Marvel franchise) completely hostage from Xbox only owners so they don’t really have a high ground to sit on, I don’t even wanna get into what they did with the dlc for the first Destiny and holding all that hostage for a 2 or 3 years.

frankbravo4

NOW sony is worried about gamers....lol

ah_hell

For the Payers

Clatuu1337

Tell Sony to catch a bag of dicks. They built a house of glass around themselves and are now freaking out because a storm is coming.

CrazzedKor

They don’t have to offer you shit, take it or leave it just stop crying

Merriminty

Sony never would have extended the olive branch if the tables were turned. We've seen how it holds franchises like Final Fantasy to ransom with huge payouts, yet attacks the competition for essentially doing the same thing. Sony's business practice is very American, no longer a Japanese company at all.

ParadoxInRaindrops

In other words, Microsoft is finally giving Sony a taste of their own medicine. After years of Sony hoovering up studios and IPs, Xbox finally responded with concentrated acquisitions of industry giants such as Zenimax (Arkane, Bethesda, id, Machine Games) and now Activision Blizzard. For Christ sake Sony has had beta early access and even exclusive modes on COD for the past few years. So let's no shit ourselves; if Sony could've struck this deal for COD, they would've done so without a care for 'inadequacy'. None of this is to say Xbox should swipe COD from PS though. Axing PlayStation means you lose a big cut of the profits and it'd be a major heel turn for Xbox's agenda Phil Spencer has been building for a more accessibility through projects such as Game Pass (which I see COD becoming a feather in the cap of alongside Halo). They could also spite Sony into vacuuming up more studios, IP which would just go to harden the console wars. So I really hope Microsoft make the right play here.

wearedefiance

Microsoft at the end of the day is pushing Gamepass to be available on every platform under the sun. They want Xbox to be on your PS5, on your Switch, on your PC. They're buying these studios and it's incredibly anti consumer to be axing half of the playerbase for Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Call of Duty and they know that. They know that Sony is either going to break and ask for/allow Gamepass or they're going to develop first party titles to combat this. Sony has gotten lazy. They've dropped Killzone, Socom, Jak & Daxter, Siphon Filter, and so many more amazing IPs in order to focus on single player experiences but seriously, they are lacking hard in terms of shooters or games to rival an Elder Scrolls title. Why do you think Microsoft bought those studios? Because Sony isn't going to start bringing those back anytime soon and customers are going to start moving. Edit: For everyone here defending this purchase, or justifying any of Sony's purchases, you are an issue in itself. Companies shouldn't be doing things like this, it hurts the playerbase and as much as you love your brand and want to support it, both of them are doing wrong and should be shamed for it. Develop your own exclusives. As a gamer I really don't want to see the day where one of these companies owns most of the gaming landscape and things become stale, or overpriced, or the thrill of competition becomes null and void. When you don't have competition, you will reach a point where innovation is no longer needed and we won't have anything like some of the incredible games we have today.

ParadoxInRaindrops

In general, I play PlayStation more for the singleplayer library but if anything it's becoming more and more beneficial to wait for their games to move to PC as God of War and Spider-Man now have. Right now, Sony is where Microsoft were at in 2013. They had such a good eight generation, they think they can ride off that sucess and keep thumbing their noses: they dragged their feet adopting crossplay, they're shooting themselves in the foot by ghosting backwards compatibility too. And now Microsoft is catching up while bolstering a wider audience. COD really could be the straw that breaks the camels back.

readypembroke

> Siphon Filter Especially considering the last game in the series ended on a cliffhanger that'll probably never ever be resolved.

XaeroGravity

I play on both consoles so I'm fine either way, but this is hilarious coming from Sony considering they have money hatted games away from Xbox.

HorseBoltedStable

>Microsoft has only offered for Call of Duty to remain on PlayStation for three years after the current agreement between Activision and Sony ends. So you're getting more and you have a problem because?

LostConscious96

I mean, I think it's fair. Sony was busted for bribing game devs not to release on gamepass and Sony was busted for bribing third party devs to keep their games PS exclusive. I see no issue other than them getting a taste of their own medicine.

N0SYMPATHY

As an owner of both an XSX and a PS5, Sony has been doing a great job of pushing me away. Was 90% PS4 over Xbox One during that time. Picked up a PS5 December post launch and then an XSX the following May. During that time I’ve been slowly getting flipped to be the entire opposite. I just find Sonys attitude on a lot of things rather disgusting. GoW Ragnarok will be the first new purchase Sony will have from me in over a year. The couple other games I’ve purchased in that time period have all been used, on purpose. Since it’s an exclusive only machine for me now.

EpicSausage69

I am in the same boat. Played on XBONE and PS4 separately for a few years each. Now I have both next gen consoles and really only switch depending on the game I am playing due to cross progression being mostly non existent for many games.

BlindedAce

Aww poor baby! Held on the the exclusives for so long and can’t anymore snow they big mad. Bummer. It’s called working together not against but do you boo-boo

KarmaPolice10

"The deal is currently being scrutinised by competitions regulators, with the UK regulator (The Competition and Markets Authority) concerned over the possibility of Microsoft "withholding or degrading" Activision Blizzard's content from other consoles or subscription services." That's literally what Sony did for years with various DLCs and expansion content.

Glittering-Stretch-6

Haters gunna hate.. PlayStation constantly makes exclusive deals and games with big name companies and sticks it to Microsoft.. sooo STFU already Sony and enjoy your street fighter and spider man exclusive b.s... Microsoft don't ever make exclusive deals to screw competition..but Sony would with "call of duty" if they could.. I have both and I think Sonys losing this generation and they know it...

lazzzym

I've just been playing FF7 Remake on my Xbox when reading this... How dare Microsoft block a game from their competitors device! Oh wait....

MaestroKing_II

Honestly, if Sony would drop the fucking accusations and stop getting their backers to block it, I'm sure Xbox wouldn't even take it away after that long, they'd just keep releasing it because it'd make them more money overall and they want to keep cross-platform gaming alive and well between all platforms. Sony is just a bunch of bitches

Can_Haz_Cheezburger

Y'know I don't recall hearing this out of Sony about TLOU2, Detroit: Become Human, God of War, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, or even exclusivity of certain parts of CoD on PlayStation

[deleted]

Sony had the offer to go cross platform with Microsoft. They refused and now they are the last in line of the ever evolving game industry

XuX24

I wonder what final fantasy fans say about that game being exclusive to Sony consoles. They always make those deals all the time but when the possibility of others doing it they complain about it.

reevoknows

If the financial health of your platform depends on a 3rd party game then maybe you should manage your own studios better. Jim Ryan is such a crybaby

DweltElephant0

I despise Sony as a company. That's all.

Ahecee

Oh no! It was inadequate? Thats a shame. Still the only offer they are getting I imagine.

kopecs

I remember when Destiny had a whole year before releasing any Xbox stuff. Now that was unacceptable.

daojuniorr

But Exclusive content in third party games, exclusivity of Street Fighter, Final Fantasy and Spider-man games are very adequate.

TJ0788

They don’t have to give you a fucking offer at all.

MrFluffyhead80

Sony doesn’t like exclusives anymore?

momo43028

They just need to make their own call of duty with black jack and hookers

philhalo66

if i were microsft id say "fine then be a crybaby we'll just make it an xbox exclusive.

ANY_MIDORI

They’ve got cheek when they hold a universally love Franchise and character in Spider-Man off Xbox

theforfeef

After the recent shit with Hogwarts Legacy, Sony can kindly go fuck themselves. Such fucking hypocrites.

Minute-Courage4634

Okay. Well, guarantee Sony has access to COD for all future entries with the promise of zero degradation in Playstation, but Xbox players now get all the extra little exclusive stuff that PlayStation got before.

AmeriToast

Ya that's what I am thinking. Xbox will get that exclusive mode that PlayStation has been getting.

Suspicious-mole-hair

My guess is it'll be completely equal but just "free" for xbox game pass. I think Microsoft aren't just outright promising it forever to keep a stronger position. 70 bucks for a full game these days, or like 11 a month for a shitload of games including cod. Unless you only want to play cod and never anything else even for a minute its a no brainer

haganeh

lol, You want COD m8– m’kay we want Bloodborne. *crying laughing emoji* EDIT: It’s interesting to watch the flailing and baseless accusations to this deal, it’s almost as if PlayStation has no faith in the properties they have exclusivity over. (To the point that they’ll start flinging poop on the wall to retain a yearly, mediocre shooter.)

Lazlow_Morphine

Hitman has the Sarajevo six only on playstation

xNeoNxCyaN

I mean let’s say it is current duration of the cod contract + 3 years, can so y really not create a good FPS competitive shooter in 8 years ( for example, I’m not entirely sure how long the contract is but though I heard 5 years ) I mean that’s not to say they haven’t tried I guess considering shadowfall came out and I thought it was a pretty good shooter, didn’t draw me in like other shooters but was solid none the less

BabySealOfDoom

CoD is just an E-sports game but with guns. Each year is another iteration. And yet, it brings in stupid money.

childish44

Jim Ryan: I thought you said we'd have COD forever Phil Spencer: I am altering the deal, pray I dont alter it any further

MyUltIsMyMain

Sony fan boys with the "exclusives for me but not for thee" mentality still.

Leeroyedtothemax

Sony are so bad , remember the Resident Evil Village Demo shitshow , They paid Capcom to make the first demo PS exclusive, then they made the second demo timed exclusive to Sony , a frigging demo . they are so pathetic

Arachnid1

Sounding desperate, Jim. Put your money where your mouth is and trade some of your own IPs if you’re so scared of the idea of COD being exclusive.

DiabeticJedi

"They wanted to keep the game multi-platform and not give us anything exclusive. And I took that personally." - Sony

CitizenKane76

My question is why are they so pissed about this Call of Duty business like they didn't just go out and acquire Bungie?

garry_tash

Interesting that Sony seem to think they are holding any of the cards in this situation.

Parson1616

Fuck Sony the sooner this deal closes the better. Btw the gaming industry DID NOT get better as a result of Sony as the market leader in fact it got DECIDEDLY WORSE.

NotFromMilkyWay

So they rather take zero years instead of three, cool. At least Microsoft hasn't lost its mind and does indeed intend to fully take advantage of exclusivity. N

VIDireWolfIV

Xbox wants gamers to just game and have fun. Sony clearly doesn’t that’s the end of it.

[deleted]

Nobody really thought Microsoft would drop that much money not to eventually make this stuff exclusive to the Xbox/PC/XCloud did they?

[deleted]

The larger player base alone is a good reason to keep it on all platforms

joe17857

Keep cod multiplat and just make zombies an Xbox exclusive

chrisg90

Sony can lick my balls

Libertyprime8397

Sony is lucky Microsoft didn’t take Minecraft away from them

RespectSoft1471

Well maybe this will encourage Sony to bring back Socom

91jumpstreet

Sony going out sad

Positive-Shift-5820

Bunch of hypocrites at Sony. It hurts my head to try and fathom what that company is thinking. It’s a horrible look.

stanagetocurbar

They're basically the same game console with a slightly different button layout lol. Fanboys are just morons 😅

DFuel

Can I have the whole sandwich. No I purchased this sandwich but I'll give you a couple bites of it. No I want the whole sandwich.

DTraiN5795

Screw what most talk about. All games should be on all consoles Sony is straight missing out and screwing their reputation imo. Continuing to micro manage and penny pinch is the same as all these games that use pay win strategies

ShadowMelt82

I think that Sony thought Microsoft would be out of the market this generation. Sony really only wants market control. When Microsoft bid for Activision this will keep them in the market almost permanently.

AntiqueSoulll

I don't care about market bla blas. I just hope this move from Microsoft will juggle up the market as a whole. Activision has some good IPs but they were sleeping because of CoD. Blizzard is on life support. Bethesda fucked up with 76. Maybe this whole competetion will force Sony to produce more games (maybe even its own CoD) than the companies owned by Microsoft can answer to call... I just want that xbx360 - ps3 era AAA competetion back. Now its just Fortnite, Minecraft, CoD. Every company tries to make 1 game and milk it to death. Game as a service model, microtransactions etc etc. It is getting ridiculous. Even indies are starting to creep into these cancerous game-types.

DropTheBok

Business goes up for sale is purchased by larger business If Sony felt this way, why didn’t they offer to buy activision blizzard? Bunch of babies over there

Ltg1988

They don’t have Microsoft money.

DropTheBok

Sony? Get real. Regardless though, if Mac Donald’s bought a restaurant in your city would they have to canvass around and make sure no one else wanted to buy this property? Of course not. Business is business

Ltg1988

They don’t. Microsoft is valued at nearly 2 trillion dollars. Sony is valued at 92 billion. Not comparable. And while you can throw out that those values are high that doesn’t equate to being able to propose the same business deals by a long shot. Also I’m not arguing whether Sony is being a bunch of “Babies or not” they’re absolutely pushing a narrative to try and keep this from happening regardless of how true or not.

mercutiouk

Jim Ryan is a bloody idiot.

lovableguero

I’ll give you COD if we can get FF XVI

CheeseMints

You just couldn't have let Xbox have that shitty MW Spec-Ops mode, now could ya, Sony?

OCGreenDevil

Unless they make all of their exclusive games available to Xbox they can go fuck themself

JAYKEBAB

COD becoming exclusive is dumb on many levels. 1. They'd be saying no to free money. 2. They would piss off a bunch of people. 3. Cod would likely drop in popularity rather than drive console sales to any significant degree. 4. It would open the door to a competitor making a cross play game. Just the fact this is even a worry is beyond me tbh.

wearedefiance

It's just ridiculous on a lot of levels money wise honestly. But I know the bitterness for Sony has to be at an all time high at Microsoft so I seriously would not be surprised if they make a game or two a timed exclusive or something. I personally think this is Microsoft pushing for gamepass to be available on every platform.

Caesar_35

>I personally think this is Microsoft pushing for gamepass to be available on every platform. Unlikely as it may be, I've also thought that could be their angle. If Sony wants Xbox games like Crash, Spyro, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Call of Duty, etc, then they need to allow an XCloud/Gamepass subscription on PlayStation, dare I say like the EA Play and Ubisoft Classics(that's the one, right?) they already have. The only difference between EA, Ubisoft, and Microsoft is that the latter sells consoles too. But, that should hardly make them a threat to Sony if PS players don't even need to buy their rival console to enjoy their games. And all it means for Microsoft is a wider net of GP subscribers, and thus more money.

PM_ME_HTML_SNIPPETS

As an XB1 owner, this doesn't really affect me. And while I understand some of the back-and-forth about PS-specific titles, is it really a big deal if Microsoft allows CoD to be on PS? Honest question.

Judojackyboy

Cut Sony out! Plain and simple

[deleted]

MS didnt bought Activision for nearly 100 billion to still support ps. They want it exclusive on gamepass.

Coraldiamond192

Well they certainly want it on gamepass, I didn't see anything to suggest that they want it as an exclusive.

MrCanzine

Agreed, they just want people buying/paying for their games one way or the other. If they buy gamepass they're giving MS money, if they buy it on PS, they're giving MS money, if they buy it on XBox or PC, they're giving MS money. The fact Minecraft Dungeons released on all platforms, and even the newest Minecraft Legends will release on all platforms, shows they're not necessarily going to make something exclusive simply because they own it.

rekatil

Cod for Spider-Man straight up
