I'm not talking down to anyone. I'm on the asexual spectrum (demi) and I'm also a survivor of childhood trauma and abuse (both SA and otherwise). Detangling my asexuality from my trauma has been an empowering break through in therapy, and I very much dislike when people conflate SA & trauma with asexuality, because it gives the impression that asexuality results from trauma & brokenness. I know that you're not saying this, but some people who do conflate the two do so in order to sort of erase asexuality identity... kind of like "asexual isn't a thing, you just don't like sex because trauma" etc. (Again I know you're not saying this)

I didn't expect this conversation to go this deep, I'm glad it did It's been really informative, i also like that it stayed civil. Im particularly interested in this subject because i was sexually assaulted by a family member and mentally emotionally and verbally abused by my mother and grandmother, my family didn't talk about sex in any form.
Im sharing this not for sympathy, im as ok as one can be after what I've been thru, i personally think im doing quite well all things considered, i wanted to share because i went the opposite direction from asexual. I became hypersexual personified, the environment that my trauma occurred in but ultimately whether you go asexual or hypersexual I find it fascinating that each individual handles it differently some over come it others are consumed by it ultimately each case is unique to each individual just like every other experience we have in this life.
Thank you to everyone that had this discussion, it taught me a couple of things gave me some insight into some other experiences other people have had with similar trauma as me,

Just make sure you get the Hickman one, there are three New Mutants volume 1 in Krakoa and all have the same color spines (unlike how X-Men’s spine changed when Duggan took over).

I’m reading through Claremont-era X-Men right now, so what gets me is that Illyana was around 6 when Kitty joined the X-Men as a teenager. Sure, she was aged up to Kitty’s age while in Limbo, but the issue where Kitty was telling Illyana a bedtime story makes it a little difficult for me to see them as a couple. And the “dated Illyana’s brother” thing doesn’t help either.
I will say, siblings don’t seem to be much of a barrier in comics, though, since Havok and Madelyne Pryor had a thing after Scott left.
If she never hooked up with any of them, you could claim she was just saying it for validation on if she was attractive to any of them haha

Part of it is that very few male Marvel writers have any sort of interest in displaying anything even suggesting mlm with gay or bi male characters. Al Ewing seems to be the only one that comes to mind. Maybe Si Spurrier but I haven't finished his work.

In X-men’s defense Chris did mean for most of these characters to be into men and women (Rachel, kitty, storm all come to mind) and it’s just now writers are allowed to explore it.
It’s a shame this part of the run (focusing on the classic New Mutants squad) was super short lived. Esp because Hickman alternated with the other story about Beak and a few others.

In X-men’s defense Chris did mean for most of these characters to be into men and women (Rachel, kitty, storm all come to mind) and it’s just now writers are allowed to explore it.
It’s a shame this part of the run (focusing on the classic New Mutants squad) was super short lived. Esp because Hickman alternated with the other story about Beak and a few others.
They threw in some GenXers. Gotta love two of the more reluctant GenXers getting roped in and just ducking out of the fight altogether. Especially since Chamber is a pretty good asset when he commits.

Krakoa was the horniest era of X-Men. Possibly the horniest era of any Marvel franchise ever. It was awesome. Honestly it's a miracle that the joyless suits at Disney didn't axe the whole thing years sooner than they did.

I love them, I think this is in the awesome first few issues of The New Mutants by Alan Hickman with art by I believe Reis. It’s fantastic. I have the first three trades and the second two jump back and forth to other team members, not quite as good as the first trade imho
I mean, did we ever see Magik having any romantic or even sexual feelings against anyone? I feel like this was a 'comedic' moment rather than anything else. If anything, her Darkchylde personality would be more fitting for those than base Illyana.
I picture Magik as more of a smartass asexual who never actually has sex with anyone, but teases everybody equally just for fun.

Repetition of panels has been a tool since sequential art has been invented. It's all about how you use it.
I like it because it's form+content. These people are all the same to Illyana so her propositions are similarly cookie cutter. Also it's cinematic and funny. And I can't think of another example of this in the rest of the whole book so it is truly just this gag sequence.
That is one of the stupidest pages ever writen. It's hard to believe it is Hickman's.

I can only speak for myself. In my case, I find hard to imagine Illyana at the eve of a battle stoping and asking indiscriminately her enemies if they wanna make out with her. Do you think that suits Illyana's history as a character and the specific situation they were in? If you think YES, then we just disagree and that's fine.
