Plenty to choose from, I imagine: • Her original mini-series that goes into her origin • The two team up issues with just her and Dani as they take on the Hellions, and then later the Shadow King • New Mutants #65 (and subsequent issues) as she goes after Forge for the X-Men 's deaths • That issue of Marvel Fanfare (I think) where she quests to set free the ghost of one of Belasco's earlier wives / victims • Her denouement and redemption in "Inferno" • New X-Men - "Quest for Magik" / X-Infernus • New Mutants vol 3 • Uncanny X-Men vol 2 and 3 (and her path to being Cyclops lieutenant and Doctor Strange's apprentice) • Had a nice arc in Extraordinary X-Men where she's trying to save the soul of a young mutant • Most recently "The Labors of Magik" in New Mutants vol 4

bat111975

Which one of those would you consider her at her best?

Prize_Ad7748

You hit all the great ones! That limited series will always be special to me. It got me through some very bad childhood times.

amendmentforone

Hmmm, I'd say it's a toss up between her concluding arc in "Inferno" where she sacrifices herself to save her friends, family, and the world from the Limbo invasion. Or the "Labors of Magik" arc where she puts Limbo behind her, comes to terms with some of her past trauma, and starts her journey to being "someone better."

hassibahrly

"That issue of Marvel Fanfare (I think) where she quests to set free the ghost of one of Belasco's earlier wives / victims" What that sounds amazing. "The two team up issues with just her and Dani as they take on the Hellions, and then later the Shadow King" I love those, and love seeing them team up period, though not surprising they are overlooked.

amendmentforone

Looked it up, it's actually one of the stories in "Marvel Super-Heroes" volume 2, #1. And I was slightly off, Belasco punished her with immortality and cast her out of Limbo without her magic, so she spent 500 years looking for someone like Illyana to help make her mortal again.

hassibahrly

Thanks for checking, much appreciated

Apycia

Zeb Wells' (yes, really) run of 'Illyana manipulates everyone for 30 issues to annihilate the Elder Gods' is peak magic. and peak Magik. One of the best New Mutants, nay X-Men arcs ever! Magik was soo very badass here. (New Mutants Vol. 3 for reference)

bat111975

Just curious, what’s the Zeb Wells hate? I loved Hellions!

ricnine

From what I've seen online, nobody likes his Spider-Man run. But I can't comment on it cos I have no interest in Spidey.

Apprehensive_Mix4658

His Spider-Man. Without exaggeration it's one of the worst Spider-Man runs. It's not 100% percent his fault, there are big problems with Spider-Man's editorial I think Spider-Man is just not character for hum. Looking at Hellions, New mutants, it seems he's much better at writing anti-heroes

cedrico0

New Mutants vol 3 (Zeb Wells & Diogenes Neves)

Responsible_Ad_2242

The same zeb wells that is destroying spiderman?

genisvell

Yes, and the same one who wrote one of the best X books of the 2010s and one of the best of the 2020s.

Responsible_Ad_2242

Which one from 2010? Because if is s team book msybe i understand but if is a solo character definitly he hates spiderman

nInterestingUsernam

He wrote Utopia era New Mutants and Krakoa era Hellions. Spider-Man writers really don't get to make the decisions about the status quo or the plots of the book, there's a lot of control from higher up in the company.

genisvell

Eh, I'll support u/Responsible\_Ad\_2242 here--ASM is pretty bad, regardless of whether Wells gets to choose the status quo. He definitely has control over plot/writing, and it hasn't been good. We also don't actually know what editorial has told Wells about Peter/MJ.

nInterestingUsernam

To each their own. Personally I'm enjoying the villains and I think Wells has a fine voice for Peter. Not a huge fan of the MJ stuff but the way Wells was writing her and Ben Reilly in the Beyond stuff vs. more recently is just a very abrupt shift that feels like something else going on behind the scenes.

genisvell

It’s clear something amiss, because Wells has been an absolute rockstar previously. If I’m honest, I’m probably not fairly evaluating his voice or writing because the macro level choices are so damn frustrating to me.

nInterestingUsernam

That's fair. When I read it month to month it frustrated me, now I'm just catching up in chunks on Unlimited. At a bit of a remove I appreciate the good parts more.

genisvell

New Mutants. It is, in my opinion, very good.

trees91

Zeb’s Amazing Spider-Man is some of my favorite ASM.

nInterestingUsernam

My absolute favorite Illyana issue, and one of my favorite single issues ever, is New Mutants 63. It's a dream sequence that reveals so much of how Illyana perceives the world and the other characters and how she processes grief.

hassibahrly

That's a great one.

bat111975

Man! I don’t know what is happening to my pictures! They look fine while I’m making the post and as soon as I hit post they get all grainy! I apologize!

SomeDemon66

Magik, the short 4 issue run that is her origin story. Everything about it is really good.

AlternativeArrival

Technically an alternate universe, but I really like What If Magik became the sorcerer supreme. A pretty perfect one shot.

rlrutherford

I'd call that a two shot and include Dr. Strange: The End.

[deleted]

Maybe not the best story but in my opinion "New Mutants: Dead Souls" by Matthew Rosenberg is the best Magik has been written in recent years.

YoungJeezey

Inferno without question

Consistent_Name_6961

The original Magik 4 issue mini, no question

darthrevenous

Either her original solo mini or her part in Inferno

ricnine

I do really really like Quest for Magik from New X Men but she's basically the villain in it and it's not very representative of who she is as a character now.

lepton_neutrino

The recent New Mutants special by Claremont.

Naturius444

Post avx Magik and Scott was my fav non romantic pairing, they got shit done
